The breakdown is as follows.
“Our Father in Heaven” teaches us to pray to the Father. “Holy be your name” means we are to worship and praise God.
When we pray, “your kingdom come, your will be done on Earth as it is in Heaven,” we are praying for God’s plan in our lives and the world rather than our own. Not our desires, but God’s will are what we should pray for.
In “give us today our daily bread,” we’re encouraged to pray for the things we need instead of what we want.
In âForgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors,â God reminds us to confess our sins to Him and to turn from them. He also tells us to forgive others in return for God’s forgiveness of us.
In the conclusion of the Lord’s Prayer, it says, “Lead us not into temptation but deliver us from the evil one.” Here, we are requesting that we be protected from Satanâs attacks.
As a result, we give God glory for all that He’s done and all that Heâs given us.

What Does Our Father Who Art In Heaven Hallowed Be Thy Name Mean
The meaning of “Our Father, who art in Heaven, hallowed by thy name” is to prepare our hearts for worship and reminds us that Gods name alone should be revered. As we declare and acknowledge that His throne is in heaven, we come into agreement that He is Lord of all.
Psalm 103:19, NIV says, The Lord has established His throne in heaven, and His Kingdom rules over all.
We can have confidence that because of His sovereignty, nothing goes unnoticed as we put our complete trust in Him. This is a great truth to remember as we release our problems and circumstances to Him and surrender to His faithfulness.

Petition : For Daily Needs
The fourth petition in this prayer is for our own needs: “Give us this day our daily bread.” This is a curious phrase, because in one short sentence it includes two words that are specific to the current day:
The word translated “This day” is Greek semron, a fairly common word that means “today”. But also in the sentence is an extremely rare word, which is usually translated “daily,” the word epiousios. While its exact derivation is a matter that scholars love to debate, it probably means either “for today” or “for tomorrow.”3Whichever it means, it is a prayer for the immediate and not distant future.
Bread, of course, is the staple of life. The word is often used for food generally, since bread is the most important food, and is extended here to mean, all of our needs, all those things that we need to sustain us.
Receiving from God
So, the prayer means something like, “Give us today what we need for today,” and fits very well with Jesus’ teaching later in the chapter, “Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own” .
Our Strong Desire for Independence
It’s strange, but we long to break free from the necessity of praying this prayer. We would like to store up enough money so that we don’t have to worry — or pray — about where our next meal will come from. We would like to be “comfortably” well off, if not rich. We don’t want to have to pray for our next meal.

Who Wrote The Lords Prayer
The Lord’s Prayer was spoken and taught by Jesus Christ to his disciples. As you read the Lords Prayer in the Gospels, you may notice that in most translations, part of the text is written in red, indicating the words of Jesus Christ. However, as we study this method of prayer, we must remember that Jesus was teaching His disciples to pray as he had learned from the traditions of His Jewish upbringing, as well as from what He gleaned from the rabbis in the synagogue.
In Jewish culture, prayer took the form of two distinct sections. The first portion was dedicated to praising God for who He is and what He has done. The second portion consisted of presenting our requests to the Lord. This model of prayer is consistent with both the Kaddish, which is the contemporary Jewish liturgy in Jesus day, as well as the Talmud, also known as the sacred law of Jewish culture.
While Jesus was fully man and fully God, with the Spirit of God living within Him, we can conclude that the words of the Lords Prayer in the Gospels were both learned through generational traditions and equally inspired by God Himself.
The Lord’s Prayer In The Bible
Matthew and Luke present the Lords Prayer differently in their Gospels. In Matthew, Jesus is preaching his Sermon on the Mount, explaining that there is a righteousness from God that exceeds that of the scribes and Pharisees. He warns his followers against practicing hypocritical piety merely to be seen by others.
In Luke, Jesus teaches the Lord’s prayer during his journey to Jerusalem. As their rabbi, the disciples saw Jesus as an example of a man of prayer. One of his followers asked him for instruction in prayer, and Jesus gave them a model in the Lord’s Prayer.

Understanding The Lords Prayer In The Bible
Also called as Our Father or Oratio Dominica or Pater Noster in Latin, the Lords prayer is a perfect model prayer Jesus historically taught to his disciples. It appears two times in the New Testament. First, the shorter version is in Luke 11:2-4. While the longer length is in Matthew 6:9-13, part of the Sermon of the Mount.

This prayer resembles other prayers that came from the Jewish matrix in Jesus era. The format includes praise, petition, and a yearning for the coming kingdom of God. These are the three common elements of Jewish prayers. The Lords prayer in the Bible consists of an introductory address and seven petitions.
Petitions 2 And : For His Kingdom And Will
When we pray, too often we want to get on quickly to our own concerns. But in Jesus’ model prayer, we first pray about the concerns of God’s Kingdom and his will. This is not the petitioner’s prayer so much as the disciple’s prayer. This is how disciples are to learn to think and pray and act, with God’s Kingdom foremost and predominant in their minds.
“Thy kingdom come….” What are we asking? We can’t take this phrase or fragment without looking at the rest of the sentence, since the meaning is found in the context.

The Kingdom of God
The idea of the Kingdom of God is complex. It goes far back into the Old Testament, at least to the book of Exodus, where God reveals himself as Israel’s King. He makes a covenant with them in the form of an ancient suzerain-vassal treaty, a treaty made between a great king and a subservient people . The tabernacle in the wilderness is the throne room of a desert monarch. He leads them by day and night. Having no king but Yahweh is one of the unique marks of the Israelites, to the point that their clamoring for a king under Samuel’s judgeship is considered a sin .
Saul was Israel’s first human king. David, born in Bethlehem, of the tribe of Judah, was the second king and becomes the archtypical king. He is promised that one of his sons will always sit upon the throne , fulfilled ultimately in Jesus Christ.
