The Bible is a collection of books that was put to writing over the course of about 1,600 years. Many individual writers have contributed to the Bible. Yet the Bible has maintained a consistent, integrated message of God’s plan and purpose for humanity. This is because each person who has contributed to the larger whole has been guided by the Spirit of God.
To get a complete picture of what God has to say, you need to read and understand the Bible as a whole rather than focusing primarily on Paul.
The great Creator God is the author of the Bible, working through individuals whom He called and chose for the task. Many of these people we know by name. Each of them brought to the task their own sense of style, phrasing, choice of words and points of emphasis.
The most recent portion of Scripture is generally referred to as the New Testament, written between 40 A.D. and 90 A.D. Paul was a real person who lived at the same time as Jesus and for many years afterwards. We have no indication that he had ever met Jesus before the Resurrection. Paul was a very well-educated and devout Jew. At first, he didnt believe Jesus was the Son of God and fought against Christians, dragging them out of their homes and putting them in prison. Paul made it his mission to get rid of this group of believers in Jesus as the Messiah. The first Christians were known as those belonging to the Way. One day, while traveling from Jerusalem to Damascus , Jesus confronted him about this misdirected mission.

The Letter To Philemon
The shortest of Pauls letters, the book of Philemon was written to a fellow believer and wealthy individual named Philemon, who was living in Colossae at the time of its writing. The purpose and style of Pauls letter was direct but also dealt with a significant social problem of the Roman Empire at the time: slavery.
One of Philemons slaves, a man by the name of Onesimus, had recently stolen from his master and escaped to Rome, where he sought refuge with Paul. Paul, however, encouraged Onesimus to return to his master and sent him back to Colossae with a letter to Philemon urging Philemon to forgive Philemon, now a brother in Christ. At the time, runaway slaves of the Roman Empire could be punished or even killed, so Pauls letter certainly carried a lot of weight.

How Are Pauls Words Distorted
The most common way Pauls writing are twisted and misused is to make the claim that the law and commandments of God have been done away with. These claims take Pauls writings in a direction never intended by the author. Notice that when Peter talks about how Pauls words are misused he specifically warns about not being carried away with the error of lawless people.
If you are reading in a King James version you will see the word wicked used instead of lawless. However, most modern translations more accurately translate the Greek word athesmos as “lawless.” A quick word study shows that the Greek word athesmos means against law and custom. For the King James translators to use the word wicked is an unnecessary obscuring of what Peter was warning against.
The only other use of the word athesmos is found in 2 Peter 2:6-82 Peter 2:6-8 And turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrha into ashes condemned them with an overthrow, making them an ensample to those that after should live ungodly And delivered just Lot, vexed with the filthy conversation of the wicked: ×. It is used in verse 7 to describe the men of Sodom… who were lawless.

Paul probably wrote the first letter to the Thessalonians about 50 AD while he was in Corinth. He had just heard about the opposition that had arisen from the church he had established in Thessalonica.
He writes to encourage and reassure the Christians there. He also answers some of their questions, including the return of Christ.
The authorship of the Second Thessalonians is, however, debatable as it copies the style of the first letter but seems to reflect a later time.
The church in Thessalonica was confused about the Second coming of Christ. The writer wrote to tell them that the time had already arrived. He then corrected this idea by talking of the evil and wickedness that will reach a climax under the leadership of the Wicked One who will be opposed to Christ.

Why Are Paul’s Personal Letters Considered Scripture
An important part of Pauls ministry was to keep in touch with Christians and churches, to encourage them in their faith and to help them avoid heresy or get persuaded to believe anything other than the true Gospel message that was preached to them. He did this by visiting and writing letters. It remains unclear how many letters outside of the thirteen epistles in the Bible that Paul wrote. However, we do know that Paul wrote letters that did not end up in the Bible. In the first letter to the Corinthians, Paul referenced a previous letter he had written to them.

Though we do not know for sure outside of this letter Paul mentioned, it is possible that Paul wrote other letters to churches and individuals that did not become part of the Bible. However, certain letters were highly circulated, transformative, and became recognized by the early church as holy Scripture. These letters are now part of the New Testament.
We know that not every letter Paul wrote became Scripture, such as the letter Paul mentioned that he had formerly written to the church in Corinth. Perhaps this other letter did not have the same level of impact and transferability to congregations beyond Corinth. Ultimately, it remains unknown why this other letter to the Corinthians was not recognized as Scripture. Peter, one of the twelve disciples of Jesus, referenced Pauls writings.

First And Second Letters Of Paul To Timothy
Although attributed to Paul, scholars believe that Paul did not write any of these two letters. These two, along with Titus, are often referred to as Pastoral epistles.
They mainly consist of instructions to younger colleagues about church administration and worship, with advice on how church leaders should behave. Finally, the writer advises Timothy on how to be a good follower of Jesus Christ and the responsibility that he has towards various groups of believers.
How Are The Pauls Letters Distinct
In all the thirteen epistles, the author claims to be Paul. However, there has been some debate concerning the authorship of some of these epistles.
Only seven epistles are accepted as having been entirely written by Apostle Paul himself. The others are thought to have been written by some of his followers using Pauls name. We will look at each of these letters individually and see how they are distinct from each other.
