Put On The Armor Of God

What Does the Bible say about Lust? – Matthew 5:27-30 | Scripture Study

The armor of God, as outlined in Ephesians 6, details how you should spiritually dress each and every day. You must intentionally put each piece on if you want to be protected from the enemys schemes. And it also provides you with a defense mechanismthe Word of God. Youll need this armor to withstand temptation.

God Wants Us To Please Him

Hebrews 11:6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

We were created for Gods pleasure but until we believe God we cannot please Him. We must believe that God exists and that He rewards all whom diligently seek after Him. It is first that saving faith that when we hear that word of truth we are convicted to believe the gospel of our salvation. And the great news is that after that first step of faith God gives us more faith that enables us to walk with Him and please Him. The Bible tells us that when we are in the flesh we cannot please God . And once we receive Christ as our savior and we choose to walk with Him we begin to bear the fruit of the Spirit . Here are some more verses that come to mind when I think about pleasing God:

Isaiah 43:7 Even every one that is called by my name: For I have created him for my glory, I have formed him yea, I have made him.

Galatians 5:2223 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.

Ephesians 2:89 For by grace are ye saved through faith and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.

What Does The Bible Say About The Lust Of The Flesh

The desire of the flesh and the desire of the Spirit is always at war in our lives the winner is who we feed more. As we abide in Gods Word, we will manifest the fruit of the Spirit and we can overcome the world.

The lust of the flesh is part of worldliness, driven by the desire for worldly, selfish pleasures, which draw our hearts away from God and ultimately lead to death. The only way to overcome it is by abiding in Gods Word and allowing the Holy Spirit to take control of our lives.

Lust is an intense desire for an object or circumstance to indulge or content oneself, often at the expense of others. At the heart of it, lust desires to take in contrast to love, which desires to give.

Humans are created with appetite, a natural desire to satisfy a bodily need, which may become sinful lust if the desire is overwhelming toward the things God has forbidden.

In the Bible, the word flesh can carry neutral, literal meaning , referring to the human body .

Figuratively, flesh is also often used to carry negative meaning, referring to making actions or decisions according to self, done apart from faith, and proceeds out of the part of us that is not transformed by God.

How Can I Stop Having Lustful Thoughts

As Christians, we are called to be selfless and holy . If we are entertaining lustful thoughts, indulging in our selfishness privately, you can see how it would be nearly impossible to live that kind of life publicly.

Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.Hebrews 12:1-2

Lust And Eternal Security

Definition Of Lust Bible

This past September I spoke to the student body of Wheaton Christian High School. I took as my topic, Ten Lessons for Fighting Lust. Lesson number 6 was, Ponder the eternal danger of lust.

Heaven and hell are at stake in what you do with your eyes and the thoughts of your imagination.

My text on that point was Matthew 5:2829 where Jesus says, Everyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart. If your right eye causes you to sin, pluck it out and throw it away it is better that you lose one of your members than that your whole body be thrown into hell.

I pointed out that Jesus said heaven and hell are at stake in what you do with your eyes and with the thoughts of your imagination. After the message one of the students came up to me and asked, Are you saying, then, that a person can lose his salvation?

This is exactly the same response I got a few years ago when I confronted a man about the adultery he was presently living in. I tried to understand his situation and I pled with him to return to his wife. Then I said, You know Jesus says that if you dont fight this sin with the kind of seriousness that is willing to gouge out your own eye, you will go to hell and suffer there forever.

The stakes are much higher than whether the world is blown up by a thousand bombs. If you dont fight lust, you wont go to heaven .

Youre In Lust: There Is No Real Intimacy Between You

But hell be okay with sitting or lying collectively or simply holding palms. He wont let any chance of touching you all over even when you dont like it, eventually ending it with sex. Love makes the 2 people related at a lot depth and its like an affiliation like no different. You at all times plan issues together, need a future collectively and at all times assume as a unit. Even if there was one thing you liked doing alone, you cant imagine doing it now with out your partner in thoughts.

What Is The Lust Of The Eyes

The Bible tells us, Do not love the world nor the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh and the lust of the eyes and the boastful pride of life, is not from the Father, but is from the world.

What is the lust of the eyes? It means feeling you must have something you see, even if you know its wrong or not good for you. For instance, you might be trying to eat healthy, but then you see an ad on TV for a 2000-calorie hamburger and suddenly feel excessive desire for that burger when eating it would be gluttony . Another example of lust of the eyes is seeing a beautiful woman in a bikini at the beach and indulging in fantasies about her.

14. 1 John 2:15-17 Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, love for the Father is not in them. 16 For everything in the worldthe lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of lifecomes not from the Father but from the world. 17 The world and its desires pass away, but whoever does the will of God lives forever.

15. Exodus 20:17 Thou shalt not covet thy neighbours house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbours wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is thy neighbours.

17. Proverbs 23:5 When your eyes light on it, it is gone, for suddenly it sprouts wings, flying like an eagle toward heaven.

The Destructive Power Of Lust

Lust means to desire something too much, so that it becomes like an idol. This is what happened to Judas. Money became like an idol to him and forced out his love for God.

Sexual lust objectifies a person their body is more important than who they are as a person. Lust can bring a couple together, but it cant keep them together. Its just a momentary urge. Many young women find themselves heartbroken because all the guy wanted was sex he didnt really love her for who she was. He was disinterested in commitment. All he wanted was self-gratification. If she got pregnant, he didnt want to marry her just wanted her to get an abortion.

Lust makes a mockery of true love. Real love wants to give, to build the other up, to meet their needs. Lust simply wants to take. Lust is all about self-indulgence, and because of lust, people cheat, lie, and manipulate. Just look at King Davids actions!

45. Romans 1:28-29 Furthermore, just as they did not think it worthwhile to retain the knowledge of God, so God gave them over to a depraved mind, so that they do what ought not to be done. 29 They have become filled with every kind of wickedness, evil, greed and depravity. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit and malice. They are gossips.

47. 1 Corinthians 5:1 It is actually reported that there is sexual immorality among you, and of a kind that even pagans do not tolerate: A man is sleeping with his fathers wife.

How To Fight And Control Lustful Thoughts

What does THE BIBLE say about LUST? | Flee sexual immorality!

Maintaining control over lust is a battle of the mind.

For those who are in accord with the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who are in accord with the Spirit, the things of the Spirit. For the mind set on the flesh is death, but the mind set on the Spirit is life and peace .

Satan can use lustful thoughts to derail you spiritually however, you can resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Just because a thought pops into your mind doesnt mean you need to let it stay there. Romans 12:2 says to be transformed by the renewing of your mind. The best way to fight and control lustful thoughts is to fill your mind with things of God. If you are meditating on Gods Word, praying and praising God, and listening to praise music, its going to be hard for those lustful thoughts to creep in.

77. Hebrews 4:12 For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.

78. Colossians 3:2 Set your mind on things above, not on things of the earth.

79. Psalm 19:8 The precepts of the LORD are right, bringing joy to the heart the commandments of the LORD are radiant, giving light to the eyes.

80. Romans 12:2 Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what Gods will ishis good, pleasing and perfect will.

Why We Often Yield To Lust

Given how damaging and dangerous lust is, why is it so tempting and so prevalent? Why do we so often let it overpower us? On the surface, it may seem that selfishness or lack of self-control are at the heart of lust. Those are contributing factors, but the deep root of lust is often emptiness. Individuals may succumb to lust in a vain attempt to fill a vacancy in their life. Lust is a false emotion, a poor substitute for genuine love, true value, and enduring discipleship.

Proper emotional control, in one sense, is a condition of the heart. âFor as he thinketh in his heart, so is heâ . Wherever we place our mental and spiritual focus will over time become the driving force behind our thoughts, feelings, and actions. Whenever we feel ourselves tempted to lust, we need to replace that temptation with something more appropriate.

Idleness can also cause lustful thoughts. When we have too little going on in our lives, we tend to be more susceptible to evil influences. As we actively seek to be anxiously engaged in good causes and strive to use our time productively, we will be less prone to lustful thoughts or other negative influences.

In other words, we must guard not only the emotions that we allow ourselves to engage in but also the thoughts that precipitate or are caused by those feelings. As Alma taught, if our thoughts are impure, âour thoughts will also condemn usâ .

God Cares About You & Your Thoughts

If we repent and ask God to forgive us, He is faithful and just to do that. He loves us, He wants us to come to Him even with our darkest thoughts so that He can shine His loving light on us.

There is eternal hope for you. There are multitudes of men and women who have been freed by God from their lustful thoughts and sinful actions, including myself.

The enemy likes to make us think that we are alone, but beloved that is not the case. Find others who have conquered this same struggle and go to them. Know that there are people who will understand your struggle, instead of judging you.

This doesnt mean it wont be hard. No adventure isnt filled with obstacles, but Jesus will be with you to cleanse you and help you.

He will help you on this journey with Him if you ask, so fight the good fight, because there is freedom from lustful thoughts in the name of Jesus.

Women Wage War On A Lustful Heart

Brittany Allen

I sat quietly as prayer requests were shared. Typical answers were offered: busyness, health, etc. Until I heard my own struggle spoken through the words of another woman, and I realized I wasnt alone. We were both battling a lustful heart.

I thought my promiscuous past was the cause of my strife back then. But over time, women have confided in me regarding their own struggle, most of them being women who grew up attending church.

Weve been taught to believe lust is a mans issue, but truly, its a human issue.

Lust can make you feel hopeless. Like a worn down beast of burden, we carry the weight of it upon our backs, tarrying further into darkness. Who will save us from this body of death?

Is Lust A Sin According To The Bible

Pin on Bible journaling...

Lust can lead to sin, if we dont keep it under control, but it isnt always sin. For one thing, theres normal lust its normal and good for a wife to feel sexual desire for her husband and vice-versa. Its normal to look at a beautiful table of food and want to eat!

Lust can lead to sin when its a desire for the wrong thing like lust for a woman youre not married to. Lust can also lead to sin when it is an excessive desire for something even something good. If you feel like you have to buy everything that pops up in your social media feed, you may be operating in lust. If you have a perfectly good car but become dissatisfied with it when you see your neighbors car, you may be operating in lust. If youre not content to eat just one brownie, but instead eat the whole pan, youre operating in gluttony which is a kind of lust.

When we think of lust in the sense of temptation, it is not a sin. The devil tempted Jesus, but Jesus resisted temptation He did not sin. If we resist temptation, we have not sinned. However, if we play with that lust in our heads, even if we dont physically indulge, it is a sin. James 1:15 says, when lust has conceived, it gives birth to sin in other words, Satan can put that thought in your head, and if you put it out of your head immediately, you have not sinned, but if you indulge that fantasy, you have sinned.

12. Romans 8:6 For to be carnally minded is death but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.
