Why Are There So Many Bad Feelings About The Bible
Good question. And while some have issues with what the Bible actually says, others have problems with the people who quote it.

Okay. So there are a lot of people out there who believe the Bible is judgmental, inconsistent, ignorant, and old-fashioned. Their issue is with the Bible itself. Some of those people have read the Bible. Some havent. And some dont even want to, since some obnoxious Bible-beater has turned them off. Their issue is with Bible people.
Lets deal with the Bible issue first.
Can the Bible judge us at times? Yes. And thats not always fun. Sort of like a personal trainer pushing you to be your best self. But along with the judgment, theres a stronger message of love. The two actually go together. Is it old-fashioned? Well, its certainly old. But despite the fact that it was written by 40 or more people thousands of years ago, we still find great wisdom and fresh ideas in the Bible. But dont take our word for it. Look inside the Bible and see for yourself.

What Does The Bible Say To Do If Someone Hurts You
In the Bible, Jesus says that we are to forgive those who hurt us. In Matthew 18:21-22, it says, Then Peter came to Jesus and asked, Lord, how many times shall I forgive my brother or sister who sins against me? Up to seven times? Jesus answered, I tell you, not seven times, but seventy-seven times.’ We are to forgive others not because they deserve it, but because Jesus has forgiven us. When we harbor resentment and bitterness towards someone, it only hurts us. It is important to remember that God is always willing to forgive us if we repent and ask for forgiveness.

We Should Love And Serve Others Above Ourselves
The Bible is very clear that Christians are to love others as much as we naturally love ourselves. Jesus demonstrated Gods view of how we should love by taking on the role of a servant. As the Son of God, he had every right to come to this world as a king to be glorified, but instead he came in humility and put others before himself. We want to follow his example in our lives.

Different people read it different ways. And thats totally fine. Want to find the best way for you?
Some people dig into a single verse and try to think of a million things it might mean. Others read it just like they would read any other book, cover to cover. Others read it out loud, by themselves or with a group, which often helps them understand the words and meanings better. But, honestly, if you just want to read the Bible, then read it. Hunker down in a comfy chair and read a whole chapter or two. Try to wrap your head around the big story.
Some tips: Find a translation of the Bible that speaks to you. There are dozens of versions available now, and most of them are faithful to the original languages. Some sound like Shakespeare. Some sound like everyday conversation. Try a few out and see what grabs you.
You dont have to read the whole Bible from beginning to end. There are a few parts that some readers find tough going, and those could derail your best intentions. Try skipping around to find the stories that interest you. We suggest Genesis, Exodus, Ruth, 1 Samuel, Daniel, Jonah, or one of the four books about Jesuss lifeMatthew, Mark, Luke, or John.
After youve read a few stories, try reading a complete letter from the New Testamentlike maybe the four chapters of Philippians or the five chapters of James. Read a Psalm out loud. Or go through Song of Songs with your significant other.

What You Can Do To Stop Bullying
We can help kids deal with bullying by helping them:
- manage their emotions
- surround themselves with the right people
- treat others with kindness
- make wise choices
We need to encourage kids to look out for people being treated unfairly and to stand up for them.
To help stop bullying, parents, church leaders, community leaders, and educators should be aware of the warning signs and work together to create safe and healthy environments for kids.
Offer support to kids who have bullied and who have been victimized to help them heal.
Jesus taught the golden rule to Treat others as you want them to treat you .
This is more than just a good saying. The Golden Rule is the Christ followers way of life. We must model and teach this attitude over and over until its ingrained in our kids hearts.
Empathy and love are the opposite of bullying, and the biggest part of the solution. And when we model this, teach this, and encourage this in kids, we can help stop bullying.

Shift Away From A Victim Mentality
Talking with your child to get out of the mindset that they are the victim is a strong way to thinking about why me. Instead, encourage them to think about what may be causing this other person to be a bully. How Should We Respond
One important note here: if you are being bullied, cyber or otherwise, there are a great many professional resources available to you. It is critical that you not remain silent. It is critical that you open up and share with someone else what is going on.
Again, please do not remain silent. Bullying is horrific behavior, but it can also be a criminal offense. If someone, anyone, physically abuses you, sexually attacks you, steals from you or is trying to steal from you, or shares private information or images please, please, please report it to the police.
Whatever is occurring you are not the problem, and others are there to help.
Aside from that, what does the Lord expect of us? To borrow an old phrase WWJD? What would Jesus do? We all know that Jesus response to being unjustly executed on a cross was to forgive his offenders. Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing .
We also know what Jesus taught in the Sermon on the Mount about loving our enemies: you have heard that it was said, Love your neighbor and hate your enemy. But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you .
In his letter to the Romans, Paul expounds on Jesus teaching:
Paul borrowed a phrase that Solomon used in Proverbs:
If your enemy is hungry, give him food to eat if he is thirsty, give him water to drink. In doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head, and the Lord will reward you .
Creating Appropriate Bully Responses
Depending on what type of bullying your child is dealing with, there are different ways to cope in a Christian manner. And this is something you and your child should talk about and work on together. Whats important to keep in mind is who you are in Christ, to make sure your child knows they are never alone, and not let it become seeking revenge.
Some positive tactics they can use are rallying with their friends. This helps your child remember they are not alone, and creates a better support system who are often closer when bullying can happen and can stand up for each other.
There are also online communities that your child can see are trying to stop the bullying with awareness campaigns and creating a change in social culture.

What Does The Bible Say About Dealing With Disrespect
The Bible is clear that we are to respect those in authority over us. For example, Ephesians chapter six says, Obey your leaders and submit to their authority. They keep watch over you as men who must give an account. Obey them so that their work will be a joy, not a burden, for that would be of no advantage to you . We should also respect other people, even those who are different from us. In Romans 12:17-21, Paul says, Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everybody. Sure, the Bible can be a bit yawn-worthy at times, but it has riveting adventures, too.
In a way, the Bible is a vast storeroom, containing thousands of years worth of information and experience. Different parts will strike different folks in different ways.
