Homosexuality Definitions And Overview

Lets start with the word homosexuality and how the dictionary defines it.

So, looking at the definition above, a homosexual is somebody that has a relationship with somebody that is of the same sex as them.

Another popular word used to describe somebody that is homosexual is Gay. Im sure you know the term originally meant happy or Merry. If you didnt. It did.

As early as the 17th century it began to be connected with act of two people of the same sex having a relationship i.e. Homosexuality.

Today the word Gay is commonly used when referring to a person that is Homosexual.

If youre a homosexual person reading this, Its important you understand that these terms were not created by the Most High.

These are man made words, used to categorise your behaviour. The scriptures give more clarity on homosexuality, so keep reading theres hope

Proposition : Even If 1 Corinthians : 910 And 1 Timothy : 811 Do Refer To Homosexuality What They Likely Have In Mind Is Not Homosexuality Per Se But Rather One Particular Form Of Homosexuality That Was Regarded As Especially Exploitative And Degrading

Some scholars have suggested that malakoi designates attractive young men, or boys, whose sexual services were either purchased or coerced by older men, and that arsenokoitai designates these older men who thus used or exploited the younger men.9 According to this interpretation, malakoi and arsenokoitai do refer to male homosexuality, but the objection is not necessarily to male homosexual activity per se, but rather to the prostitution, coercion, and/or exploitation that typically accompanied one particular type of male homosexuality. And this, too, is consistent with Martins conclusion that arsenokoitai refers more specifically to exploitation than it does to sex. Furthermore, if this is the case, then we simply have no way of knowing what the New Testament writers might have said about a non-exploitive, non-coercive, loving, committed, monogamous homosexual relationship. We cannot know because New Testament writers are not talking about that kind of homosexual relationship.

In the final analysis, we cannot be certain that these passages refer to homosexuality at all. And if they do, they do so only in passing in more-or-less miscellaneous catalogues of various types of behaviors that are regarded as unacceptable.

Given the approach that Paul took toward the incestuous man in 1 Corinthians 5, St. Paul obviously did not think all adult sexual behavior, motivated by a loving disposition, should be considered morally clean.

The fact that Rom. 1:26 indicts female-female sex undermines the supposition that Paul was concerned only with certain exploitative forms.

In Rom. 1:27 Paul speaks of the mutual gratification of the participants: the males were inflamed with their yearning for one another, males with males

Every kind of homosexual union imaginable existed in Pauls day.

Sex is to be confined to male-female marriage.

Human Sexuality And Relationships

Many religious traditions celebrate sexuality as a gift from God. The starting point for a Christian understanding of human sexuality is the belief that all humans are made in the image of God.

statements that deal with homosexuality only refer to male homosexuality but the same principles can apply to lesbians.

There are great divisions within the Christian community on this issue, with the Roman Catholic Church and some sections of the evangelical churches holding very similar views.

If Its Not Natural Why Do We See Homosexuality In Nature

Two things to think about here: First, just because something occurs in nature doesnt mean we should emulate it. Mothers eat their young in nature. Animals steal food from each other in nature. Male lions rape female lions in nature. Just because something happens doesnt mean it is good.

Second, what happens in nature is not natural because we live after the fall of man. Biblically, everything was created good but after Genesis 3 everything becomes broken. Humans die the ground bears thorns and thistles women experience pain in childbearing. The reason some animals commit homosexual acts is because the sin of mankind has broken the world that mankind was commanded to care for, not because that is how it was originally intended to be.

To say it another way, nothing is natural after Genesis 3. We have to see what the Bible says to know what is truly natural, and homosexuality is explicitly called unnatural in Romans 1.

The title of the book hints at the assumption that there is growing confusion surrounding what the Bible actually teaches about homosexuality. DeYoung manages to keep the page count low by stating clearly in the introduction that this is a Christian book and that it assumes a fair amount of common ground with the audience. Therefore, the book does not address all Christian and non-Christian perspectives its aim, rather, is to present a position that treats the Bible as Gods Word, as an inspired, authoritative, unbreakable, fully trustworthy account of divine revelation.

    Is Homosexual Desire Sinful Even If I Dont Act On It

    There are two things to realize in this question. On the one hand, to be tempted toward something and resist it is righteous and is not sinful. In that sense, you are not sinning you are doing exactly what the Bible commands. On the other hand, we have to realize that the only reason anyone has homosexual desires in the first place is due to the fall of man. In this sense, homosexual desire is sinful. In eternity, a Christian wont struggle with this sinful desire. So, to be tempted is not sinful, but this temptation is a desire that is contrary to Gods will . In this sense even our temptations can be sinful because they come from a heart corrupted by sin.

    Those without sin could be tempted, but only from the outside . This is why the devil has to come to them to try to trick them. We, however, have a sin-nature and are tempted by things inside of us that are contrary to Gods word.

    Does The Bible Forbid Homosexuality

    Gay-friendly clergy tend to use the terms love and acceptance interchangeably, claiming that we must love everyone, because we are all children of God.

    It is certainly true that Jesus commanded us to love everyone, but it is not true that we are all children of God. And it certainly is not true that we must tolerate and accept evil behavior.

    Scripture repeatedly refers to children of the Devil:

    No one born of God commits sin for Gods nature abides in him, and he cannot sin because he is born of God. By this it may be seen who are the children of God, and who are the children of the devil: whoever does not do right is not of God, nor he who does not love his brother .

    You are of your father the devil, and your will is to do your fathers desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, and has nothing to do with the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks according to his own nature, for he is a liar and the father of lies .

    Anyone who has seen cursing, blaspheming homosexuals simulating sex at a Gay Pride parade, or has read their hate-filled screeds against the Catholic Church, should have no problem discerning whether they are children of God or spawn of the Devil.

    Of course, homosexual persons are to be loved and respected, and homosexual tendencies are not sinful if they are not wanted. But homosexual activity is immoral and absolutely anti-biblical.

    Intimacy Identity And Culture

    Sam Allberry, a same-sex pastor from England, confronts the pain of being alone, even by choice, on the grounds of obedience to God. Celibacy is made more difficult by the elevation of marital intimacy to a lofty position above all other forms, including friendship.

    Allberrys fear is that if someones only choice in life seems to be either unbiblical intimacy or no intimacy, theyre going to end up choosing unbiblical intimacy. And if thats the case, I think the wider church shares responsibility for that.

    As Allberry asserts, people within the LGBQT+ community are being denied access to this kind of intimacy, so even those who are keen to follow Gods commands and to please him by their faithful obedience are drawn to other sources for belonging and acceptance.

    Jesus never taught his disciples to deny friendship and familial love to anyone. Whoever does the will of my Father in heaven is my brother and sister and mother .

    He also promoted mutually uplifting, godly friendship. Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends . The word friend, philos in the Greek, means beloved or dear. I have called you friends, Jesus said to his disciples .

    Not everyone accepts forgiveness through Jesus but he offers dignity, love, and truth to everyone. When a gospel-believing person highlights sin in a persons life, the purpose should always be to point that person to Jesus and his saving mercies.

    What Does The Bible Say About Homosexuality? Sin or love?

    Homosexuality Nothing seems to stir up the culture wars faster than this topic. On one side you have a group of people who see this lifestyle as being no different than any other lifestyle. After all, its a matter of live and let live, a civil rights issue akin to the 1960s and Martin Luther King. Who are we to tell anyone else how to live? On the other side, you have a group of people who think that homosexuality is an abomination in the eyes of God, and it should never be allowed at any time. Is it natural to put a sexual organ and its emissions into the digestive system of same sex partners, or should sexual organs only be put into complementary sexual organs of the opposite sex? And if homosexual practices are normal, then why all of the VD and early death rates among homosexuals? Whos right?

    Here’s what the late Bishop Sheen once said about right and wrong – “Right is right, even if no one is right. Wrong is wrong, even if everyone is wrong.”

    The secular humanists among us dont understand why anyone would invoke the teachings of the bible regarding homosexuality in the 21rst century. Notice how the date is always mentioned in this debate, as if to say that we are all enlightened now, and the superstitions and old wives tales of the bible are all passé.

    Leviticus 20:13: If a man lies with a male as with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination they shall be put to death, their blood is upon them.

    What Does This Mean In Practice

    Most Christian churches hold the position that you should ‘Love the sinner, but hate the sin’. This is generally interpreted to mean that Christians should show love and compassion to homosexuals, but that homosexuals should not engage in sexual activity. This is because most churches teach that sex should only happen within marriage, which the Church defines as being between a man and a woman.

    The Roman Catholic Church states:

    quote This inclination, which is objectively disordered, constitutes for most of them a trial. They must be accepted with respect, compassion and sensitivity. Every sign of unjust discrimination in their regard should be avoided…Homosexual people are called to chastity.Catechism of the Catholic Church 1992, paras 2358-9

    view on homosexuality is accepting:

    quote Where there is a genuine tenderness, an openness to responsibility, and the seed of commitment, God is surely not shut out.     Most Christians will take a position somewhere between these two views. Some churches offer support to homosexuals in leading a chaste life, while others readily accept openly homosexual people in positions of authority. However, few Christian groups will give a definitive statement on the issue as it would cause divisions within the community.

    Does Homosexuality Exist In The Bible

    When we read the scriptures, we see homosexuality first in the Book of Genesis 19, with the story of Lot, Abrahams brothers son i.e. his nephew .

    In the scriptures Homosexuality is called Sodomy

    Here we see acts of homosexuality in the land of Sodom and Gomorrah. And from that point on wards the word Sodom which mean burnt becomes synonymous with what is homosexuality in modern terms.

    The Story of Sodom and Gomorrah which is a place in the east, explains how the Most High sent Angels to be Lots guests to find out how bad the sodomy was there.

    Unfortunately the angels that were sent in human male form, became the preferred sexual preference of the men in Sodom and Gomorrah.

    Lot even attempts to offer his daughters to them, in an attempt to prevent this sin of sodomy.

    Genesis 19:1-11

    In verse 5 it specifically says that the men of Sodom and Gomarrah wanted to Know them . And the them referring to the Angels the Most High sent to Lot as guests in his home.

    These scriptures are clearly talking specifically about sexual acts between men when Sodomy is mentioned.

    Sodomy only relates to men in the scriptures and not women .

    In the context of the broader immorality of his audience, Paul the Apostle wrote in the First Epistle to the Corinthians, chapter 6 verses 9-11:
