Hell Was Originally Created As A Place Of Punishment For The Devil And His Angels
In Matthew 25:41, Christ described how he will say this to the wicked at his return, Depart from me, you accursed, into the eternal fire that has been prepared for the devil and his angels! Apparently, hell was created after Satan led one-third of the angels in rebellion against God sometime after God created the heavens and the earth . It was not originally made for humans, but humans who rebel against God will share the same fate as the angels who rebelled.
What Does Weeping And Gnashing Of Teeth Mean
Jesus foretold the fate of evildoers: In that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth when you see Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and all the prophets in the kingdom of God, but you yourselves being thrown out .
In Matthew 13:41-42, Jesus said: The Son of Man will send out His angels, and they will weed out of His kingdom every cause of sin and all who practice lawlessness. And they will throw them into the fiery furnace, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
The weeping and wailing in hell are from bitter grief and utter hopelessness. People in hell will be shrieking in uncontainable psychological pain. Likewise, gnashing or grinding the teeth like a wild beast snarling and snapping its teeth portrays extreme anguish and absolute despair.
Gnashing ones teeth also is a sign of anger those suffering in hell will be angry for bringing condemnation on themselves especially those who heard the good news of salvation but rejected it. Many in hell will think to themselves, why didnt I listen?
10. Matthew 8:12 But the subjects of the kingdom will be thrown outside, into the darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

What Is The Purpose Of Hell
Why would God allow for all this destruction to happen? 2 Peter 3:10-14 explains that earth being on fire will melt, but that we should look forward to a new heaven and a new earth where righteousness dwells. The fire purifies the earth and establishes a place of righteousness for the saved to live. Isaiah 65:17 adds, “For behold, I create new heavens and a new earth and the former shall not be remembered or come to mind. This righteous place is described in Revelation 21:1-5 in the following way: “Now I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away…And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away…Then He who sat on the throne said, ‘Behold, I make all things new.
Have you considered the following? If people were tormented forever in hell how could all things be made new? Additionally, how could all tears be wiped away if you were saved and happily living in an earth recreated, but could still see loved ones burning in hell for eternity? Eternal life for you in heaven would be eternal torment as you continually saw those you loved in unending agony.
Hell Is Like A Garbage Dump
The word that is often translated hell in the New Testament is Gehenna. This was a place where the garbage was dumped in New Testament times. Every kind of garbage was thrown there, including the corpses of criminals. Worms bred and fed in the filth while smoke filled the place due to continually burning fires.

What Does Hell Look Like According To The Bible
1. All ungodly people will be punished in Hell
According to the Bible, all ungodly people whose sins have not been forgiven will be punished in Hell. They dont go to Hell just because they are sinners but because they have unforgiven sins. They didnt confess their sins and hence have not been washed by the blood of Jesus.
Suffering in Hell will be both physical and spiritual. An important point to note is that the punishment of the condemned will vary in time and intensity in proportion to the sins committed.
Revelation 21:8 provides us with an example list of people whose final destination is going to be Hellfire.
2. Hell is a lake of fire and brimstone
Revelation 21:8 describes Hell as a lake of fire and burning sulfur . Contrary to popular belief, Hell will not be on some piece of land or inside a deep cavern but rather a lake of fire.
If Hell were situated on solid ground, then it would technically allow the denizens of Hell to live out eternal lives in damnation. If such a Hell would be possible, then it could allow the disgraced inhabitants to carry on with life in some shape or form.
However, the Bible doesnt say that hell looks anything like the one usually depicted. Rather it clearly shows that Hell will not be a place of continued life because it will be a lake in which the suffering sinner will not be able to do anything much other than experience torment.

Pastor John MacArthur writes, Fire causes the greatest pain known to man, and the furnace of fire into which the sinners are cast represents the excruciating torment of hell, which is the destiny of every unbeliever. The punishment is so fearsome that in that place there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

What reasons do people give for denying eternal conscious punishment and affirming annihilationism ? Many appeal to the biblical language of hell, primarily the words to destroy, destruction, and perish . The fire of hell, so they contend, burns up, consumes, and utterly destroys its object, leaving nothing . Thus, they interpret destroy to mean deprive of life and existence, hence the extinction of being. Annihilationists also point to the Greek word often translated forever and insist that it more literally means age, referring to a lengthy but limited period of time. One also often hears an appeal to the dictates of justice. It goes something like this: A just penalty will be in proportion to the crime or sin committed. How can a sin committed in time by a finite creature warrant eternal, unending torment?

Many people ask, “Are there people suffering in hell right now?” Job 21:30-32 gives us a picture about hell and when its fires will burn. Job says, “For the wicked are reserved for the day of doom they shall be brought out on the day of wrath. This text along with 2 Peter 3:7 shows that hell is not burning now, but at some date in the future the wicked are reserved and brought forth out of their graves for the day of wrath. John 5:28-29 also conveys the same message, Do not marvel at this for the hour is coming in which all who are in the graves will hear His voice and come forththose who have done good, to the resurrection of life, and those who have done evil, to the resurrection of condemnation. Again this outlines that the hour is coming in the future, but is not yet, when final condemnation and destruction happens. You can rest assured, that right now, at this moment, not one person is burning in hellfire.

We cannot know exactly what hell looks like or how hot it will be. But Scripture does use some descriptive language of hell, and that gives us an idea of what hell will be like. It is sure to be a place of torment, which the Bible often pictures as fiery. For the purposes of this article, the terms hell and lake of fireare used interchangeably.
Some interpreters take the Bibles descriptions of hell to be symbolic, because some of the descriptions are difficult to reconcile with each other. For example, picturing hell as both fire and outer darkness seems paradoxical. Of course, the God of the impossible can do anything, including make dark fire. So, the descriptions could be literal. What Sends A Person To Hell
God has never sent anyone to hell. God will never send anyone to hell. Actually, people do this themselves by their unbelief. God never sends anyone to hell just as He never forces anyone into heaven, but the good news is that God desires that no one perish and suffer eternal torment and He takes no pleasure in the death of the wicked . People send their own selves to hell by choosing not to believe in Jesus Christ as their personal Savior. Jesus can save you today . You simply have to believe in Him and place your trust in Him . There is no other way on earth to escape hell except through faith in Jesus Christ . It may well be that you are reading this for a reason. That reason could be that this very day is your day of salvation . That is my hope and prayer for anyone that reads this. Just believe in Him and you will be saved .

View Of Conditional Immortality And Annihilationism
A minority of Protestants believe in the doctrine of conditional immortality, which teaches that those sent to hell will not experience eternal conscious punishment, but instead will be extinguished or annihilated after a period of “limited conscious punishment”. A phenomenalist view of immortality holds that there would be no experiential difference between eternal hell and limited conscious punishment.
Prominent evangelical theologians who have adopted conditionalist beliefs include John Wenham, Edward Fudge, Clark Pinnock, Greg Boyd, and John Stott . Conditionalists typically reject the traditional concept of the immortality of the soul.
The Seventh-day Adventist Church holds annihilationism. Seventh-day Adventists believe that death is a state of unconscious sleep until the resurrection. What Is Hell Like
Hell is eternal. According to Matthew 25:46, Jesus said, “andthese shall go away into everlasting punishment, but the righteousinto life eternal”. Romans 16:26, speaks of the everlastingGod. Hebrews 9:14 refers to the eternal spirit.
There are four expressions in these three verses to be considered.They are “everlasting punishment”, “eternal life”,everlasting God”, and “eternal spirit”. The onlydifference between everlasting and eternal in our language isa difference in spelling. They mean the same thing. The Greekword translated as everlasting or eternal in these three passagesis the same. It is “ionious” which means eternal, everlasting,without end, never to cease, or indeterminate as to duration.
There is another argument which can be made against the eternalityof hell. which cannot be applied against the eternality of Godthe Father, God the Spirit, and Heaven. If one were to take thepoisition that hell were to last only a thousand years, to beconsistent he would also have to contend that the Father, Spiritand Heaven will last for only a thousand years. That is true forthe same word used to describe the duration of Hell’s punishmentis also used to describe the duration of the Father, Spirit andHeaven.
The very moment that the disobedient cease to be punished, therighteous will cease to be blessed and the Father and Spirit willcease to exist. Hell’s punishment will continue forever and ever.
