What Is Praise And Worship According To The Bible

Worship Through Your Testimony

The power of WORSHIP – What the Bible says about worship

Look at your life. You will find a lot to say about Gods love, grace, and mercy. Even during hard times, we can find many reasons to praise Him. So, do not be silent about it. Jesus called us to be witnesses of Him no matter where we are .

A witness tells of what they saw or heard themselves. So tell the truth about what Jesus Christ has done for you to the people you know. Tell them about what you have seen and heard. Let them know how good our God is and everything He has done in your life.

Praise him for his mighty acts: praise him according to his excellent greatness.

What Exactly Is Worship

Worship can be defined as the reverence or adoration that one shows toward something or someone holding a person or object in high esteem or giving a person or an object a place of importance or honor. There are hundreds of scriptures in the Bible that speak about worship and provide guidance as to both who and how to worship.

It is a Biblical mandate that we worship God and Him alone. It is an act that is designed not only to bring honor to Him who deserves honor, but also to bring a spirit of obedience and submission to the worshippers.

But why do we worship, what exactly is worship and how do we worship on a day-to-day basis? Because this topic is important to God and is the reason that we were created, the Scripture provides us a great deal of information on the subject.

How They Help You Fight Battles

Have you ever listened to a song and been brought to tears? I definitely have experienced tears while listening to a song that touches my heart and soul. There are numerous songs about facing battles with the help of the Lord. We must remember we are never alone. God is always with us. He can speak to us through the words and music of a song.

When we listen to a song about someone journeying through a difficult situation, we may relate because we have faced that same battle. Or we can find comfort in the words through knowing others have experienced heartache and pain, and yet, God never left their side. God will never leave us.

But What About Our Praises To God

Most would agree that He is what we love and value the most. So why is it so difficult for so many of us to praise Him? In Reflections on the Psalms, C.S. Lewis writes that praise is inner health made audible. Isnt that beautiful?

PRAISE IS INNER HEALTH MADE AUDIBLE.

For those with a healthy spiritual life, praise is natural. It easily flows from the heart of one who has a relationship with God. For others, religious training, lack of understanding, fear of embarrassment, and pride inhibit the spirit-man from thriving in health – causing praise to be silenced.

I wonder if wed ever get so excited over Jesus, and what Hes done for us, that wed have to release the pressure of excitement in shouts of praise. – Judson Cornwall in Let Us Praise.

Praise Is A Part Of Us

The roar of the crowd when their team wins the Big Game. The cheers at the dining room table as you take the Scrabble championship. The thunderous applause as the orchestra performs the symphonies finale. The mom and dad cheering wildly as their son takes his bow as Rock #2 in the Kindergarten play. The tears and exuberant YES as he asks her to be his wife.

Praise is inherent in each and every one of us. It is something we were created to do.

All Of Life Is Worship

The Bible also makes it clear that worship goes beyond singing to encompass all of life. Yes, singing to God is certainly part of worship.

Psalm 30:4 says, Sing praise to the Lord, you saints of His, and give thanks at the remembrance of His holy name.

Psalm 57:7 says,

My heart is steadfast, O God, my heart is steadfast I will sing and give praise.

But the reality is that all of life is worship. Everything we do is supposed to flow out of a heart that loves God above everything else. 1 Corinthians 10:31 says,

Therefore, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.

Eating, drinking, working, resting, walking, and sleeping are all to be done to the glory of God. In other words, every activity should be done in such a manner that God is honored. Worship of God is to infuse every area of our lives.

We worship God when we give thanks to Him for a wonderful meal He has provided. We worship God when serve others instead of ourselves. We worship God when we obey the commands He has given us.

In John 14:21, Jesus said,

He who has My commandments and keeps them, it is he who loves Me. And he who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and manifest Myself to him.

If we go to church on Sundays but dont obey the commands of God, then were not worshiping God. Obedience to God is an outward sign of a heart that prizes God above everything else.

Pastor Adrian Rogers said:

Worship The Lord In Spirit And Truth

In a well-known episode from the New Testament, Jesus told the Samaritan woman what the Father is seeking in His true worshipers . That message of Christ taught us that worship is no longer about following outward rituals that may hide a non-committed participant, as it was in the Old Testament days. Our worship must be a truthful expression that connects us to the Father on a deep spiritual level.

Worshiping in spirit and truth requires both our emotions and our knowledge of God. It is neither only about feelings nor only about the intellectual understanding of who God is it is about both. We worship God with our hearts and with our minds as well.

True worship is only possible because of the mediation of Christ Jesus and the presence of the Holy Spirit in our lives . Keep that in mind when you worship God, no matter how you do it.

But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth for the Father is seeking such to worship Him.

Worship With Reverence And Awe

What is Biblical Worship?

The Lord gives us many reasons to praise Him and invites us to worship Him. But the freedom that He gives us doesnt mean that we can relate to Him in any way we want. Our worship must reflect the utmost reverence for the Great King in the highest heaven.

Knowing who God is also brings us a sense of awe. Can you fathom what it means to create the whole universe? Can you imagine what it is like to know every single molecule that ever existed and that will exist in all creation? It is way beyond our understanding. So, keep that in mind and bring that reverence and awe when you worship the Lord.

Therefore let us be grateful for receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, and thus let us offer to God acceptable worship, with reverence and awe,

How To Praise God

You can praise God in many different forms. The form most people know is prayer, as you can use your words to praise God directly . Another form of praise involves singing praise to God . Many people enjoy the freedom of praising with their entire body by raising their hands, voices, and more . Reading scripture is a form of praise as it helps to improve your relationship with Christ . Additionally, reading the Bible can help to inspire you to praise God more by seeing everything He has done.

Sharing your testimony offers another way to praise God by sharing your love for Him with others. Simply sitting and making yourself receptive to listening to God can be a form of praise as well. Finally, you can praise God by following His example and helping or serving other people, and showing them His love through your actions .

44. Psalm 149:3 Let them praise his name with dancing and make music to him with timbrel and harp.

45. Psalm 87:7 Singers and pipers will proclaim, All my springs of joy are in You.

46. Ezra 3:11 With praise and thanksgiving they sang to the LORD: He is good his love toward Israel endures forever. And all the people gave a great shout of praise to the LORD, because the foundation of the house of the LORD was laid.

Singing Also Works As A Way To Express What You Feel In Every Situation

As we mentioned before, songs and hymns are not only for praise, and for worship. Through these you can express another type of emotion, such as, for example, gratitude, trust, request, consecration. And as an example of this, in the Bible there are a lot of psalms, with different purposes, there are those to thank, to trust, there are those of a messianic nature, there are others of help, and others of regrets.

Why Is Praising God Important

Praising God can keep your focus on the correct path to a relationship with God and eternity with Him as well. Praise is a wonderful practice that is both beautiful and agreeable to the Lord. Furthermore, praising God reminds us of His unending list of attributes such as glory, power, goodness, mercy, and faithfulness, to list a few. Its difficult to list all God has done, but its a great exercise for bringing our attention back to Him and reminding us of how much we owe to Him.

Additionally, praising God benefits us and not just God. First, it helps to renew your strength by reminding you God is there. Second, praise invites Gods presence into our lives and satisfies our souls while reducing depression as we know we are loved. Third, praise brings freedom from sin and death. Next, praising God fulfills our purpose in life to love God and follow Him all the days of our lives.

Praising God even helps us to increase our faith. We can recount the excellent things God has done in our lives, the lives of others, and even the great things the Lord performed in the Bible as we spend time worshiping Him. Our spirits are reminded of Gods goodness when we do this, which strengthens our faith and helps us to focus on eternity and not just the current timeline. As you can see, praising God greatly benefits our lives.

11. Psalm 92:1 It is good to give thanks to the Lord, to sing praises to your name, O Most High.

Worship Through Your Life

What Is Worship According To The Bible

Everything we do reflects what we believe. People who know that we are believers will often shape their view of God based on what we do more than what we say. Thus, we need to do our best to express our faith through our actions as well as our words.

Each life is a series of opportunities to worship God through everything each one of us does. We can show our devotion to God even through mundane daily tasks. And then, when we least expect it, we will impact other peoples lives with our faith. That is a powerful way to witness about God and worship Him through our lives.

Therefore, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.

What Is Worship Look To Heaven

The book of Revelation gives us a view of worship in heaven. Perhaps this is our best example of worship. As you read their worshipful response, make it your own act of praise.

Whenever the living creatures give glory, honor and thanks to him who sits on the throne and who lives for ever and ever, the twenty-four elders fall down before him who sits on the throne and worship him who lives for ever and ever. They lay their crowns before the throne and say: You are worthy, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things, and by your will they were created and have their being. A Matter Of The Heart

In the Law of Moses, it is easy to be distracted by all the detailed worship regulations, but that is not the real focus. All those details were given in order to serve a larger purpose, and that is God. Our focus should be on God, and the same was true for the ancient Israelites. They were to focus on God.

Worship in ancient Israel was not just at the tabernacle it was also in the heart and in the home. God did not want people to think that they could do the rituals and then live as they please. It was not enough to do the worship a persons honor and respect for God should be genuine, in the heart, which meant that God was to be praised in all of life.

In Deuteronomy 6, Moses told the Israelites to put Gods instructions in their hearts, and teach them to their children, to talk about them when they sat, when they walked, and when they lay down. They were to write these instructions on the doorposts, to immerse themselves in Gods way of life. All of life is worship.

Some of the later prophets build on this theme. Samuel told Saul that obedience is better than sacrifice. God wants a right attitude more than he wants correct rituals. In Jeremiah 7:22, God says, I didnt bring you out of Egypt because I wanted sacrifices. I just wanted you to obey me, and sacrifices are only a tiny part of what I commanded.
