The United Pentecostal Church

Bible Study: What Does Salvation Mean to You

Oneness Pentecostals teach that the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ are the only means by which atonement can be obtained for dying humanity, and which makes the free gift of God’s salvation possible. They believe that all must put faith in the propitiatory work of Christ to gain everlasting life. According to United Pentecostal theology, this saving faith is more than just mental assent or intellectual acceptance, or even verbal profession, but must include trust, appropriation, application, action, and obedience. They contend that water baptism is one of the works of faith and obedience necessary for Christ’s sacrificial atonement to be efficacious.

How To Gain Gods Salvation Of The Last Days

So, how can we gain Gods salvation of the last days? The Lord Jesus said, I have yet many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now. However, when He, the Spirit of truth, is come, He will guide you into all truth . And if any man hear My words, and believe not, I judge him not: for I came not to judge the world, but to save the world. He that rejects Me, and receives not My words, has one that judges him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day . 1 Peter 4:17 says, For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God. And John 17:17 says, Sanctify them through Your truth: Your word is truth. These verses tell us that when the Lord returns in the last days, He will express the truth and perform the work of judgment beginning with Gods house. With the truth, He will judge and purify our corrupt dispositions, thereby allowing us to thoroughly cast off the bonds of sin, attain purification, and no longer resist and rebel against Him.

Misconceptions About Universal Salvation

Misconception:First Corinthians 15:22 teaches universal salvation by saying that in the Christ all will be made alive.

Fact: The context of this verse discusses the resurrection. So the phrase in the Christ all will be made alive simply means that all who are resurrected receive this blessing through Jesus Christ.John 11:25.

Misconception:Titus 2:11 teaches universal salvation by saying that God is bringing salvation to all people.International Standard Version.

Fact: The Greek word translated all in this verse can also mean every kind or variety. * Thus, the correct understanding of Titus 2:11 is that God is making salvation available to all sorts of people, including people out of all nations and tribes and peoples and tongues.Revelation 7:9, 10.

Misconception:Second Peter 3:9 teaches universal salvation by saying that God does not desire anyone to be destroyed.

Fact: God wants people to be saved, but he does not force them to accept his provision for salvation. His day of judgment will include the destruction of the ungodly people.2 Peter 3:7.

^ par. 1 The Bible refers to a person as having been saved even though his or her actual salvation from sin and death is yet to come.Ephesians 2:5 Romans 13:11.

How Jesus Christ Is The Source Of Our Salvation

The Bible shows that God the Father and Jesus Christ love human beings immensely. They created us in Their image and want to share eternal life with us. But in order for that to happen, God had to provide a way for us to be savedor deliveredfrom sin and death.

God the Father and Jesus Christ have a plan to accomplish this. Jesus Christ came to earth and lived a perfect lifenot earning the penalty of death due to sinand then gave His life for us. Because He was God in the flesh, His sacrifice can pay the penalty for all human sins.

Romans 5:8 tells us, But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

Jesus gave His life, a life of perfection, without sin, so that we can be saved. It is by His shed blood that salvation is now made possible for all humans.

But that doesnt mean human beings only have to accept that sacrifice andpoof!they are saved. The Bible shows we need to accept His sacrifice and also repent and turn from sin.

To learn more about Jesus Christs death and sacrifice for us, read Why Jesus Had to Die.

The prophet Isaiah wrote: Seek the LORD while He may be found, call upon Him while He is near. Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts let him return to the LORD, and He will have mercy on him and to our God, for He will abundantly pardon .

Changing our lives is an important part of the salvation process.

The Necessity Of Salvationthe Barrier

Salvation Meaning

In Ephesians 2:14-16 Paul speaks of the barrier of separation which exists between God and man. As long as this barrier exists, there is no possibility of fellowship between God and man. The barrier, or literally the dividing wall mentioned in Ephesians 2:14, referred historically to the dividing wall in the temple in Jerusalem. This wall separated the court of the Gentiles from the rest of the temple and excluded the Gentiles from the inner sanctuaries. But this wall was a picture of the spiritual barrier that stands between God and man which precludes mans access into Gods presence. The Jews could go beyond the dividing wall, but this was only because they had access through their God-given sacrificial system which pointed to the person and work of Christ, the Messiah, the One who would make peace and remove the barrier.

The study of the Bible reveals there are several spiritual factors which go together to make up this barrier of separation between God and man. Though sin is the root problem, it is not the only issue. A combination of factors make up this wall of separation. So just what constitutes the barrier between God and man?

Barrier 1: The Holiness of God

Deuteronomy 32:4 The Rock! His work is perfect, For all His ways are just A God of faithfulness and without injustice, Righteous and upright is He.

Barrier 2: The Sin of Man

Psalm 51:5 Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity, And in sin my mother conceived me.

Barrier 3: The Penalty of Sin

Gods Salvation Is Altogether Of Grace

Notice the important word grace in verse 10. What do we mean when we say that salvation is altogether of grace? We mean it is altogether of Gods providing we do not deserve it and we can do nothing to merit it. We can only accept it as a gift. Every religion in the world is a system of salvation by works, by merit but Gods method of saving men and women excludes works altogether – look up and compare Romans 3:20 Ephesians 2:8-10 Titus 3:5, and then read Romans 4:5.

Gods Salvation Is The Salvation Of The Soul

We read this in verse 9. It is so important to remember that our deepest need is in the realm of the soul. Our bodies will waste and die, but not our souls. What profit would it be to have a saved life but a lost soul? – look up Mark 8:36-37. By nature our souls are lost – lost to God, Heaven, righteousness, purity – eternally lost lost because of sin – look up Ezekiel 18:4 Romans 6:23. Gods salvation saves us from sin, death and Hell, and saves us for eternity. But this raises a question: Does God only offer to save the soul? Does He not offer help for body and mind? Yes, indeed, he offers salvation from fear, worry and doubt, and gives us now the prospect of a new body – look up 2 Corinthians 5:1-4.

How To Explain Salvation To A Child

Explaining salvation to a child is a bit technical. Children may not be able to grasp the biblical concepts and implication of salvation.

The preferred method on how to explain salvation to a child is to tell them stories of your journey of being a Christian.

Also, it is necessary to tell them about the impact of the love of Christ in John 3:16. Make an illustration about how God so loves us to have sent his only son to redeem humanity. It is like a kid giving up his favourite toy to make another kid happy. It is not an easy decision for kids.

Jesus loves little children and wants the best for them. He befriends who are obedient to their parents and do good to all those around them.

Salvation Definition What Jesus Did For Us

Maybe you might have read through the Bible often and seem not to understand what Jesuss death did for us. Well try to explain it here to make you know what salvation is.

Before the salvation brought to us by Jesus, we have all sinned and fallen short of the glory of God and thus were not worthy of standing before the presence of God.

In St. Pauls second letter to the church in Corinth, Paul said:

What it means is that Jesus came and made us righteous once more before God. We are thus saved from the consequences of our sins through Jesuss death on the cross of Calvary.

In the old testament, the Israelites used the blood of animals to in atonement of their sin and continually repeated the act every year . Still, through the death of Jesus, a perfect sacrifice by Gods son, was made only once for the salvation of man.

And we are thus saved from the consequences of our sins which is seen in Romans 6:23:

But another question that may arise is, how do we get this salvation? We will answer this fundamental question in the next section.

The Motivations For Salvation

When we look at the stubbornness and rebellion of man, we ask the question, why should God want to save sinners? And especially, why should He want to give His unique and beloved Son to die the agony of Gods holy judgment in bearing our sin on the cross?

Scriptures answer is that salvation redounds to the glory of His grace. Salvation brings glory to God and it does so because it manifests the nature and character of His person . Salvation reveals a number of things about God that bring glory to the person of God and show us something of the reasons for salvation:

It reveals His love. That God would reach out to sinful man by sending His only begotten Son is the greatest manifestation of His love. It declares God provided salvation because He is a loving God .

Salvation through the person and work of Christ is also a manifestation of Gods grace, the non-meritorious favor of God . Only Christianity offers a salvation based on grace rather than works. All the other religions of the world have man working to acquire salvation.

Adam and Eve were created in the image of God that they might give a visible display of Gods character as they walked in fellowship with the invisible God. But when the human race fell through Adams sin, the image was not only marred, but man lost the capacity for fellowship with God. Through salvation, the capacity for fellowship is restored and also is mans ability to manifest, though imperfectly, the goodness of God.

How Is Saved Used In The Bible

The vast majority of the times the word saved is used in Scripture, it is not used in reference to receiving eternal life or going to heaven when we die, but is used in one of these other ways mentioned above. If you doubt this, just pull out a concordance and start checking it yourself. When the Bible uses the word saved it is talking about the Israelites getting saved from their enemies, from sickness, from slavery, and from death. The disciples are saved from drowning in a storm. Christians can be saved from a life of empty living.

This sort of thinking really helps when we read certain difficult passages. Paul writes that women will be saved through childbearing . Does he mean that only women who have children can get forgiveness of sins and go to heaven when they die? Of course not! A brief look into the context of 1 Timothy 2 reveals that one source of a womans personal self-worth is in how she trains and raises her children. Paul is teaching that one way women can be saved from feeling insignificant is by raising children. It is not the only way, but is one way.

You will see that while good works play absolutely no part in getting, keeping, or proving our eternal life, good works nevertheless can save us. Ah, but save us from what? I will let you embark on the rest of this study on your own. Have fun!
