A Leviticus : 22 Prohibition Of Homosexuality In The Law

Lev 18:22 You must not have sexual intercourse with a male as one has sexual intercourse with a woman it is a detestable act.

This straightforward law prohibits all homosexual acts. It makes no distinctions as to whether or not they were consensual. It comes in the midst of a section of laws related to sexual relationships. No consequence is given here in each verse for the individual laws, but rather they are all listed as things that must not be done. All of the items in this chapters list are said to defile and are called abominations . In balance, homosexuality here is not singled out from among the rest of the sexual sins , but is included with the rest. Likewise, those who break any of these laws are to be cut off from the midst of their people . These various sexual activities are ones which brought about the punishment of God upon the previous inhabitants of the land . Thus in the law homosexuality was an offense against God. It, along with the other sexual sins, was not to exist in Israel at all.

What Does The Bible Really Teach About Homosexuality

A Denver Journal Book Review by Denver Seminary student Chad E. Graham

Kevin DeYoung, What Does the Bible Really Teach about Homosexuality? Wheaton, IL: Crossway, 2015. 153 pp. Paperback, $8.60. ISBN 978-1433549373.

Kevin DeYoung is Senior Pastor at University Reformed Church in East Lansing, Michigan. In only 150 pages, this book seeks to do justice to the complex exegetical backdrop of the few biblical passages on homosexual activity. The title of the book hints at the assumption that there is growing confusion surrounding what the Bible actually teaches about homosexuality. DeYoung manages to keep the page count low by stating clearly in the introduction that this is a Christian book and that it assumes a fair amount of common ground with the audience. Therefore, the book does not address all Christian and non-Christian perspectives its aim, rather, is to present a position that treats the Bible as Gods Word, as an inspired, authoritative, unbreakable, fully trustworthy account of divine revelation.

What Does the Bible Say About Homosexuality?

ALL LOVE IS NOT LOVE, NOT BY A LONG SHOT

And there came two angels to Sodom at even and Lot sat in the gate of Sodom: and Lot seeing them rose up to meet them and he bowed himself with his face toward the ground Genesis 19:1

We live in a day and age where Gods opinion no longer matters, and where mans opinion and human relativism is the standard of the day. Sin is no longer sin, its a disease, and rehab has replaced true biblical repentance.

Gay rights and gay marriage have become the clarion issue of our day, and what gets decided on and what laws get passed will well determine the future of humanity. Every dispensation of man in the bible ends in failure. The awesome promise of a perfect creation mentioned in Genesis 1 ends with Joseph dead and buried in a coffin in Egypt. Both the Greek and Roman empires came to an abrupt end when they began to promote a national ordinance of homosexuality.

THE LAW OF FIRST MENTION IN THE BIBLE

The law of first mention in the bible is important because it usually sets the tone for every other place in the bible where that doctrine will appear. The very first place that the mention of homosexuality shows up is in Genesis 9, where we see the misdeeds of Ham towards his father.

Because of what Ham did, he and his generations to come were cursed. So we see that the very first time homosexuality is mentioned in any context in the bible it is connected with a curse.

The Bible says homosexual behavior is a sin. This resource sets a foundation for biblical sexuality and answers gay revisionist arguments.

In This Series:

Discussions of homosexuality or same-sex marriage, whether in person, in the media or on the Internet, often turn to what the Bible says. Someone is likely to argue that homosexuality is a sin and point to Leviticus, Romans or the Genesis story of Sodom and Gomorrah. Others will suggest homosexuality is not a sin.

Theyll say things like, Jesus never mentioned homosexuality or Eating shellfish and wearing a shirt with two kinds of thread are also forbidden in Leviticus, but you dont follow those rules, do you?

The discussion often becomes convoluted, incoherent or angry, degenerating into a shouting match.

Perhaps you have participated in similar discussionsface to face or online. Maybe youve seen these arguments or used them yourself. You may have found yourself wrestling with doubts about the validity of your personal convictions and the traditional Christian understanding of homosexuality and same-sex relationships. Q5 Does Committing A Homosexual Act Automatically Mean One Is Going To Hell

No. Jesus came to bear the penalty of sin upon Himself and offer forgiveness to all who trust in His work on their behalf. Any who do truly trust in Him will not go to hell. In this way homosexual sin is the same as any other sin. It can be forgiven. Conversely, like every other sin, it too needs forgiveness, and it too needs to be overcome by the grace of God. See the biblical discussion above for more details.

Debating Bible Verses On Homosexuality

Two evangelical authors offer conflicting interpretations about well-known passages on homosexuality.Related Article

The debate over gay marriage is not just taking place in the nations courts it is also a subject of intense discussion in the nations churches.

Matthew Vines, an openly gay, evangelical Christian and the author of God and the Gay Christian: The Biblical Case in Support of Same-Sex Relationships, has been actively encouraging conservative Christians to re-evaluate their beliefs about homosexuality. He has engaged them in private conversations, in public talks and through the organization he founded, the Reformation Project.

He was recently invited by the Rev. Caleb Kaltenbach, lead pastor of Discovery Church in Simi Valley, Calif,, to talk privately with a small group of evangelical leaders to discuss what the Bible says about gay relationships. Mr. Kaltenbach is the author of the forthcoming book Messy Grace, which is about how he reconciles his conservative Christian convictions with his experience as the child of gay parents.

After the session, they were each asked to interpret some of the most cited verses relating to homosexuality in the Bible.

    Whats Next For The Church

Everyone was made in Gods image, but not all people embrace Christs message of hope, peace, love, mercy, and justice. One reason for this is religious arrogance Christians who act as though they are in a position to condemn or pardon.

But if churches shut their doors to those who defy Gods commands about sexual intimacy, the doors would be shut to everyone. The duty and privilege of Christs disciples are to offer all who will listen to the message of salvation and the promise of a love greater than anything.

His love and justice go together, but all who call on Christs name for salvation are covered by his blood. Each of us is a work in progress. We can teach his inerrant Word but must always do so without judging or persecuting anyone.

    D Judges 1: 22ff Gibeah

    ALAM MO BA

In Judges 19 another example of inhospitality and attempted homosexual rape occurs. In this instance it is not all of the men of the city, but rather some good-for-nothings. Here, however, they were pacified with the mans concubine who was sent out to them in his place. She died after their treatment of her.

These actions led to the first civil war in Israels history, and the near extinction of the tribe of Benjamin. This war was sanctioned by Gods approval after Gibeah refused to hand over the offending men for judgment .

Like many real life issues today, the sin that resulted in all this seems to have been an array of actions. First, these men attempted to do a wicked thing and know these men sexually .5 Secondly, to compound that, it was attempted on a person who was under the hospitality of anothera disgraceful thing . Thirdly, they raped and abused the travelers concubine all night and caused her death . Fourthly, the rest of the tribe of Benjamin refused to turn these men over to punishment .

Thus, after the giving of the law, attempted homosexual rape was part of the sin that resulted in a God-sanctioned civil war.

Does Homosexuality Exist In The Bible

When we read the scriptures, we see homosexuality first in the Book of Genesis 19, with the story of Lot, Abrahams brothers son i.e. his nephew .

In the scriptures Homosexuality is called Sodomy

Here we see acts of homosexuality in the land of Sodom and Gomorrah. And from that point on wards the word Sodom which mean burnt becomes synonymous with what is homosexuality in modern terms.

The Story of Sodom and Gomorrah which is a place in the east, explains how the Most High sent Angels to be Lots guests to find out how bad the sodomy was there.

Unfortunately the angels that were sent in human male form, became the preferred sexual preference of the men in Sodom and Gomorrah.

Lot even attempts to offer his daughters to them, in an attempt to prevent this sin of sodomy.

    Genesis 19:1-11

In verse 5 it specifically says that the men of Sodom and Gomarrah wanted to Know them . And the them referring to the Angels the Most High sent to Lot as guests in his home.

These scriptures are clearly talking specifically about sexual acts between men when Sodomy is mentioned.

Sodomy only relates to men in the scriptures and not women .

    Lusts And Sexual Immorality

Our sex drive is not a sin. But sexual desires outside marriage between a man and a woman are what the Bible calls lusts, and giving in to them is sin. This includes premarital sex, extramarital sex, giving in to impure sexual thoughts, and practicing homosexuality. This is described in both the Old and the New Covenants. Some of these verses are listed at the end of this article.

    Homosexuality: One Parishioner’s Perspective

Christian tells homosexual he won’t go to Heaven

Some Christians say that The Bible makes it clear that homosexuality is an abomination to God. As a Christian, I have to admit that until recently I had never thoroughly explored the Biblical position on homosexuality. I decided to review the topic of homosexuality in The Bible in order to get a better perspective on why some Christians find homosexuality so troubling. In my review, I found that the word homosexual does not appear in the Bible. The word homosexual first was used in the English language during the eighteenth century.

Also, the word homosexual is used less often today because many feel that the word has negative connotations. Therefore, the more politically correct reference to homosexuals is the acronym LGBT . The acronym stands for lesbians gays bisexuals and trans-gendered. The letter Q is sometimes used to refer to those who are questioning their sexual identity. The acronym most commonly used is LGBT.

The acronym, LGBT, first entered into widespread use in the 1990s. It was part of a general sensitivity movement. For example, prior to the 1990s it was not uncommon for adolescent boys to refer to other boys as queers, fagots, or fags. Such name calling is a form of bullying, and schools are now very strict in disciplining the use of inappropriate language. Likewise, corporate America has discovered that bias against all kinds of minority groups is bad for business. So, overt discrimination against members of the LGBT community is not tolerated.

God Will Not Let You Be Tempted Beyond What You Are Able

All people meet trials and difficulties in life, both in their physical circumstances and in their spiritual life. Not living according to ones innate homosexual orientation can require a huge sacrifice. But God blesses those who live wholly for Him. Nobody who has truly given up everything to serve God will regret it. He only wants the best for us.

No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make a way of escape, that you may be able to bear it. 1 Corinthians 10:13.

Even though Gods Word may appear radical, God also loves each sinner, no matter who they are, what their background is, or what they have done. He loves each one of us more than we can comprehend. He sent His Son, Jesus Christ, who paid the price for our sins, and has shown us the way of escape.

Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light. Matthew 11:28-30.

Giving Up Sugar Tasting God’s Goodness

As a latchkey kid, Wendy Speake turned to sugar for comfort. Every Friday, she would pedal to the candy show and use her allowance to fill her bag with candy. And one day, when she was older and a mom of three young boys, she came to realize that she was still pedaling away from her stress and using sugar as comfort, instead of turning to Jesus. She was joyless, worn out, tired, and in need of a change. In this interview, Wendy will challenge Christians to take 40 days to focus on fasting from something they turn to instead of Jesus for comfort. She invited people to break free from a dependence on sugar and taste the goodness of God.
