Ask If The Person Is Sorry And Expect Them To Show Signs Of Contrition

The person that cheats should, at the very least, feel guilty and want to be forgiven.

But it also says that if a person keeps sinning there is no more grace left for them. If God doesn’t extend grace, then there comes a point that you don’t have to either.

What Does The Bible Say About Husband Cheating On Wife

What Does The Bible Say About Husband Cheating On Wife? Cheating by a spouse is referred to as adultery. But what does the Bible actually say about cheating or adultery? This is the question well be answering throughout this piece of write-up. The word adultery is etymologically related to the word adulterate, which means to render something poorer in quality by adding another substance. Hence, we can say without doubt that adultery is the adulteration of marriage by the addition of a third person. In simple terms we can as well say that adultery is the voluntary sexual activity between a married person and someone other than his/her spouse. The Bible clearly begins its teachings on marriage with the pattern of Adam and Eve: one man and one woman, husband and wife, both united by God Almighty .

Their mother has been unfaithful and has conceived them in disgrace. She said, I will go after my lovers, who give me my food and my water, my wool and my linen, my oil and my drink .

She will chase after her lovers but not catch them she will look for them but not find them. Then she will say I will go back to my husband as at first, for then I was better off than now .

I will punish her for the days she burned incense to the Baals she decked herself with rings and jewelry, and went after her lovers, but me she forgot .

The Lord said to me, Go show your love to your wife again, though she is loved by another and is an adulteress. Love her as the Lord loves the Israelites, though they turn to other gods and love the sacred raisin cakes. So, I bought her for fifteen shekels of silver and about a homer and a lethek of barley. Then I told her, you are to live with me many days you must not be a prostitute or be intimate with any man, and I will live with you .

But also unmarried people shouldnt lust after somebody. Perversity is a sin of the flesh and against God. Everyone who is walking with God no longer lives in sin and is no longer subject to his flesh.

For this is the will of God, even your sanctification, that ye should abstain from fornication: That every one of you should know how to possess his vessel in sanctification and honour Not in the lust of concupiscence, even as the Gentiles which know not God.

Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.

But also flirting, single dating agencies and complimenting each other are considered worldly and thus sinful before God. Only the person chosen by God as a spouse may be wooed in this way:

For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.

Adultery Is Not Just An Outward Action

You have heard that it was said, You shall not commit adultery. But I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lustful intent has already committed adultery with her in his heart . This tells us that adultery can take place within the heart and is just as sinful as an outward act. The sin of the mind may not affect as many other people, families, and friends as the outward physical act, but it is still a sinful affront to the holiness of God. This applies to the prevalence of pornography in our culture. Often claimed to be a victimless offense, the damage pornography does to the heart of the one involved in it, and often to those around him/her, can be just as devastating. Pornography and adultery often go hand in hand.

How Can I Know If There Is True Repentance

Of course, we cant see the heart of another, so how can we ever really know if there is repentance or not? How are we supposed to figure out how to deal with infidelity Biblically if we cant ever know for sure if were still being lied to or manipulated?

These are hard questions to answer, but the Bible gives us some pretty great advice on the matter. The first thing we need to understand is that while we cant see anyone elses heart, God can. He not only knows what is going on in our spouses heart right now, but He knows what was going on in there yesterday, and what will be going on in there tomorrow. We can trust Him to lead us into all truth.

God promises that if we need wisdom on any matter, we need only ask, and He will help us. The Bible also teaches us that were not supposed to depend on our own understanding of any situation, but to trust in the Lord with all our heart, acknowledge Him in everything we do, and wait for Him to show us which path to take.

Finally, we find in Scripture that there is something called fruit of the Spirit. These are measurable by-products of a Holy-Spirit filled life. The fruit of the Spirit includes things like love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control, and stands in sharp contrast to the fruit of the flesh.

We have entered into the covenant of marriage fully intending to cling to our spouse till death do us part, but now find were having to answer questions we never dreamed would have to be asked.

Most of the time, the betrayed spouse desperately wants to see the marriage healed and restored, but finds she is only half of the equation. Very often, we also really want to honor God in our response, but find so much conflicting information as to what is expected of us that we get helplessly confused and begin to feel there is no hope.

How can we honor God in a situation that is SO dishonoring to Him? It seems impossible.

At the same time, the betraying spouse is often wrestling through much more than just the sin of adultery. The problems that led to this infidelity go back far, and reach deep! Whether its cheating in marriage with your wife or husband or being unfaithful with your girlfriend or boyfriend cheating is always a sin. Scripture has a lot to say about cheating and its sinful nature. Many people say well God doesnt care since we are not married, which is false.

Even if its not cheating on your spouse cheating has to do with deception and God hates deception. You are basically living a lie creating one lie after the other.

Do Not Try To Cover Up Sin Repent And Seek Gods Forgiveness

David tried to cover his sinful behavior by bringing Bathshebas husband back from the battlefield. David hoped that Bathsheba and her husband would sleep together and everyone would believe it was this marital union that resulted in Bathshebas pregnancy. However, Bathshebas husband refuse to lay with his wife while the other men remained on the battlefield without him. It seems that Bathshebas husband had more morals than King David did in some matters.

Although David could have confessed and repented at this point, he decided to try another cover up. He had Bathshebas husband sent back into battle, placed on the front lines, and then abandoned to face death at the hands of the enemy. King David had Bathshebas husband murdered in the hope of covering his own sinful behavior. An important lesson to be learned from this is that one sin leads to another, oftentimes worse, sin if the sinner does not confess to God and repent of the sinful conduct .

    Sexual Relations In Marriage

In contrast to the stark prohibitions and warnings against adultery, marital relations were expected and considered a right. A newly married soldier in Israel did not have to go to war for a year, so that he could bring happiness to his bride. Proverbs encourages the enjoyment of sexual relations within marriage: Drink water from your own cistern, running water from your own well. Should your springs overflow in the streets, your streams of water in the public squares? Let them be yours alone, never to be shared with strangers. May your fountain be blessed, and may you rejoice in the wife of your youth. A loving doe, a graceful deer may her breasts satisfy you always, may you ever be captivated by her love.

To Divorce Or Not To Divorce

So how are we to know if we should seek out divorce, or choose reconciliation? How do we know how to deal with infidelity Biblically in our own, individual situations?

I believe the answer has everything to do with repentance. Look at what God said to Israel after He divorced her:

Jeremiah 3:12-13 Therefore, go and give this message to Israel. This is what the Lord says:O Israel, my faithless people, come home to me again, for I am merciful. I will not be angry with you forever. Only acknowledge your guilt. Admit that you rebelled against the Lord your God and committed adultery against Him by worshiping idols under every green tree. Confess that you refused to listen to my voice. I, the Lord, have spoken!

God was willing to reconcile Himself to Israel if she would only repent and turn back to Him. If we want to know how to deal with infidelity Biblically, I believe well do the same.

Yes, to reconcile after infidelity is an act of grace, but our God lavishes grace upon us every day, and as His people, we are called to live gracious lives.

If there is true, genuine, and complete repentance on the part of the betrayer, God can restore what has been broken. A new covenant can be made. If, however, there is no repentance, then I believe 1 Corinthians 5 tells us what we must do.

    Bible Quotes About Truth. QuotesGram

Infidelity is unfaithfulness to a spouse or sexual partner, and it can also be disbelief in a religion. Some say this violation of the sexual exclusivity contract is the root of all sins.

Thou shalt not commit adultery is one of the Ten Commandments. Thomas Chalmers , a leader of the Church of Scotland, described it as a fearful blindness of the soul. Some argue that although premarital sex can be destructive, it is not infidelity. Others disagree.

Swedish theologian Emanuel Swedenborg pointed out that infidelity has emanated chiefly from the learned. Some indicate that though infidelity can destroy marriages and lives and cause psychological damage, but God can ultimately erase it from ones record.

Infidelity is not a sin, according to the majority of God-fearing adulterers, according to a survey by Victoria Milan, which describes itself as a dating website for married and attached people looking to have an affair and claims to have over five million users worldwide.

According to this survey, 77.5 percent of people surveyed agree life is too short, and dont consider infidelity an unforgivable sin and more often than not, even if it is its worth the risk. It goes on to say that religion and affairs are more similar than people think: they both provide fulfillment, satisfaction and purpose in life.

Religious infidelity, like rejecting, doubting or lacking a religion, can also have consequences in certain places.

What Is Adultery In The Bible

The Bible is very clear that adultery is sinful. Adultery is when the covenant of marriage is broken by fornication and lust. If youre married, you must not engage in any sexual relationship with anyone but your spouse, otherwise, thats adultery. If youre not married, you must not engage in any sexual relationship with anyone who isnt your spouse if you do, that is adultery too. Sexual relationships must be only with your spouse. Period. Marriage is sacred an institution designed by God. Marriage is not just a piece of paper. Its a covenant. Lets see what the Bible specifically says about adultery.

The sexually immoral and the adulterous it goes hand in hand. Sexual immorality in any form is sinful and must be avoided. Sexual sins are specifically highlighted in Scripture and set apart from other sins because sexual sins are not just a sin against God, but also against our own body. Sexual sins also distort and profane the marriage covenant, which is a direct reflection of Christ loving His bride, the Church, so much that He died for her. A distortion of marriage is a distortion of the living, breathing testimony of salvation. There is so much at stake here. Adultery and other sexual sins are a blatant affront to the proclamation of the Gospel.

    1) Exodus 20:14 You shall not commit adultery

    3) Exodus 20:17 You shall not covet your neighbors wife.
