What The Bible Says About Truth

Love Suffers Long And Is Kind Love Does Not Envy Love Does Not Parade Itself Is Not Puffed Up Does Not Behave Rudely Does Not Seek Its Own Is Not Provoked Thinks No Evil Does Not Rejoice In Iniquity But Rejoices In The Truth 1 Corinthians 1: 4

What the Bible says about Blessings and Curses

In Pauls famous chapter about love, He adds that steadfast love rejoices in the truth. What does this look like? If you think about it, the quickest way to destroy any relationship of love is to begin to lie to the other person and begin to bring deceit into the relationship. Love does not flourish in lies, it flourishes and rejoices in the truth.

Why Is John 3/16 The Most Known Verse In The Bible

For Christians, particularly evangelicals, John 3:16 has become perhaps the most important passage in the Bible, Stone said. The point is that Christ is salvation, and those who believe in Christ are saved, he said. Price said that the message of John 3:16 could be seen as a sincere declaration of faith by Hernandez.

EXPORT, Pa. The vast majority of evangelicals are satisfied with many characteristics of their membership church, variously including preaching, music, diversity, gender leadership roles and other areas, leading ministry researchers report.

More than 38 percent of churchgoers wouldnt change a thing among the 14 categories studied, according to The Congregational Scorecard: What Evangelicals Want in a Church released Thursday and jointly conducted by Infinity Concepts and Grey Matter Research.

Evangelicals are mostly quite satisfied with their church. Its time leaders get to spend some time feeling good about what theyre getting right rather than always hearing about what theyre getting wrong, Grey Matter Research President Ron Sellers told Baptist Press.

One of the big takeaways for me is that theres this negative stereotype of church as having lengthy, boring sermons in the middle of lengthy, boring services, Sellers said. Pastors constantly hear complaints from people, or experts telling them how to do church better. I hope pastors get to see that, by and large, these negative stereotypes arent true.

Specifically, the study conducted among more than 1,000 evangelical Protestants found that:

The Foundation Of Truth

Pin on Bible Scriptures

T.F. Torrance, described as the most significant theologian of the late-twentieth century,33 maintained,

It is the steadfastness of God which is the ground of all truth. Primarily, truth is Gods being true to Himself, His faithfulness or consistency .34

The faithfulness of God is the foundation of all truth.

Jepsen explained, Yahweh is the God in whose word and work one can place complete confidence . Ken Ham reasons, therefore, that Christians should never abandon the Bible in an attempt to engage non-Christians in a debate on neutral ground about objective facts.35 To do so would be a bit like attempting to examine some visual evidence in a dark room, without flicking the light-switch. Gods Word is a lamp . . . and a light , which provides understanding to those who seek it . In contrast, those who shun His revelations flounder and stumble in darkness , who is the God of truth , is the only completely reliable source and effective reference point for true enlightenment, knowledge and wisdom.

The Bible And Todays Takes On Truth

What the Bible says about Christ’s Birth – The Truth About Christmas Part 3

So what is truth? From a biblical perspective, all the views we surveyed earlier in this essay contain at least a grain of truth.

  • Truth is what works rightly grasps that if truth means anything, it must impact our lives.
  • Truth is what you make it discerns that none of us have perfect knowledge. None of us can claim a view from nowhere.
  • Truth is what science tells us has a grain of truth in that science can tell us many true things about the world we live in.
  • Truth is tyranny and should be resisted correctly recognizes that we all have a vested interest in the truth, which is a powerful concept that can be wielded for ill as well as for good.

Therefore, in addition to critiquing these four takes on truth, the Bible also fulfills and transforms them.

  • Gods truth works because it teaches us how to be true from the heart.
  • We dont make the truth, but Gods truth makes us. His perfect knowledge provides a firm footing from which we can discover truth.
  • Science can tell us some truth because science discerns Gods own handiwork, whether or not it recognizes creation as Gods.
  • The Bible subverts the tyranny of the lies we tell in the name of truth. The Bible resists every false truth claim, every oppressive narrative, every story used to subjugate. The Bible claims truth for itself, but it is a truth that brings light and life, freedom and flourishing.

Honesty Is Critical To A Deep Friendship

You cannot have a deep friendship without honesty.

The tongue that brings healing is a tree of life, but a deceitful tongue crushes the spirit.

An honest answer is like a kiss on the lips.

Therefore each of you must put off falsehood and speak truthfully to his neighbor, for we are all members of one body.

Do not lie to each other, since you have taken off your old self with its practices and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator.

Are There Times When Its Okay To Lie

The Bible tells us that on a few occasions, it was okay to lie. For example, the king of Egypt told the midwives to kill the Jewish baby boys when they were born, but the midwives feared God and let them live . When the king confronted them, they lied about why they had not killed the babies.

The midwives answered Pharaoh, Hebrew women are not like Egyptian women they are vigorous and give birth before the midwives arrive.

God was kind to the midwives because of their actions .

In another situation, Rahab lied to the servants of the King of Jericho, saying two Jewish spies had left the city when they actually were hiding on her roof . As you can see later in the Bible, God approved of her actions .

Lets look at a third example of lying that God apparently approved of: Jonathan lied to his father, King Saul, to see if his father intended to harm or kill David .

Do these rare exceptions mean sometimes its okay for you to lie? Probably not. In each case, the lies prevented the killing of people God planned to use for his glory. However, there may be a rare occasion when there are no good options and you should choose the most loving option.

  • The Egyptian midwives lied to save babies lives.
  • When Rahab lied, she also did it to save lives. The men she saved were part of Gods plan for the Israelites upcoming victory over Jericho.
  • Likewise, Jonathan lied to protect Davids life. God had plans for David to be king of Israel.

The Devil Is The Father Of Lies

The Bibles first recorded lie was when Satan misquoted God to Eve . Jesus may have been referring to that when he confronted a group of Jews and said they belonged to their father, the devil. He then said the devil was the father of lies.

You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your fathers desire. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies.

What do you think?

4. Why is it important to know that the devil is the father of lies?

5. How can knowing the devil is the father of lies motivate you to tell the truth?

Truth places an obligation upon everyone. Regardless of what truth is, we must be willing to follow wherever it leads us. Truth is always a friend, never an enemy! It is an ally, not an opponent, as long as we are abiding by the truth Truth is opposed only by the forces of Satan, such as darkness, evil, and fear. Therefore, any time you fear or oppose truth, you have allowed just that much of Satan to fill your heart and claim your soul. You are then, in effect, fighting against your own self interest and what is best for you.

We have the obligation to always stand for the truth and be loyal to it. We must always search for the truth love the truth obey the truth live by the truth and share the truth with others.

A Better And Higher Standard

What does the Bible say about truth?

The Bible has a better and higher standard. It defines truth as being utterly reliable and enduring. The reason is simple: authentic, biblical truth is inextricably linked to the dependable, unchanging character of God. You can trust everything He says He never lies He always keeps His Word Hes faithful to all His promises.

King David calls the Lord, God of truth . And He most certainly is the source of truth in the modern sense of the word, since He cannot lie . But more than this, and the very reason for His truthfulness, is that Hes completely faithful and reliable in all He does and says. Its not simply because God is truthful, but because God is faithful and trustworthy in very nature that David is able to say with confidence:

Into Your hand I commit my spirit You have redeemed me, O Lord God of truth (Psalm 31:5

Instead of God of truth here, the ESV, NIV, NLT, NRSV, and others have faithful God.22,23
