What Does The Bible Say About Marriage And Love

Top Bible Verses on Proverbs – Where there is strife, there is…

These encouraging verses are often used as Bible readings for weddings or when couples renew their vowels. The Bible is full of teaching about love, courtship and marriage.

  • Ecclesiastes 4:9-12 Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labour.
  • Ephesians 5:25 Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her.
  • Genesis 2:24 That is why a man leaves his father and mother and is united to his wife, and they become one flesh.
  • Therefore what God has joined together, let no one separate.
  • Ephesians 5:25-33 Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her to make her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word, and to present her to himself as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless. In this same way, husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. After all, no one ever hated their own body, but they feed and care for their body, just as Christ does the church for we are members of his body. For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh. This is a profound mysterybut I am talking about Christ and the church. However, each one of you also must love his wife as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband.

The World We Are Not To Love

But now what is this world that we are not to love? Verse 16 says it is characterized by three things: lust of the flesh, lust of the eyes, and the pride of life. The word for life does not refer to the state of being alive but rather to the things in the world that make life possible. For example, in 3:17 it is translated goods. Anyone who has this worlds goods and sees his brother in need, yet closes his heart against him, how does Gods love abide in him? Jesus uses the word in Mark 12:44 when he says that the poor widow in the temple put in everything that she had, her whole living.

So the phrase pride of life means pride in what you possess the things you have. Now we can see how the three descriptions of the world relate to each other. The first two lust of the flesh and lust of the eyes refer to desires for what we dont have. And the third the pride of life refers to the pride in what we do have. The world is driven by these two things: passion for pleasure and pride in possessions.

If you try to satisfy your longing by sucking in the air of the world, you will not be able to drink the water of heaven.

And the passion for pleasure is described in two ways because there are two large classes of pleasure physical and aesthetic. There is the lust of the flesh bodily pleasures and the lust of the eyes aesthetic and intellectual pleasures. John is not naïve. He knows that the world is not limited to Hennepin Avenue.

One Of The Most Famous Lines From The Bible That Many People Use Daily Is The Saying Love One Another From 2 John 5

This verse is said by almost every person on Earth at some point in their lives, whether it be a mother to her fighting children or a dog mom to her barking puppies. The word love was made to connect those around us with feelings of joy and happiness.

However, love does not come easy, and simply saying you love someone is different than showing it. We show love in many ways: holding someone’s hand when they are scared, calling a friend to ask if they got home safe, or even through acts in marriage.

The Song of Solomon mentions love in a more attraction-based context.

While many Christians believe love should be proven in ways other than intercourse before marriage, being a faithful and Godly partner is only half the battle of being in a relationship.

Love can seem like a simple concept before reading the Bible. You will notice that, as you read, the Bible can make many meanings out of love. Those who Love God will know peace.

Your Love Has Grown Cool And Weak

Pin on Bible Verse of the Day

The other possibility is that you have indeed been born again, but your love for God has simply grown cool and weak. Youve tasted what it means to have a heart for God. You can recall how once you felt that to know him was better than anything the world could offer. But this morning the wick is smoldering and the reed is bruised.

The prescription for your ailment is not much different than the prescription for seeking new birth in the first place. The same Spirit that begets life also nourishes life. The same word that ignites the fire of love also rekindles love. The same Christ who once brought you out of darkness into his marvelous light can take away the long dark night of your soul. So yield yourself to the Holy Spirit. Immerse yourself in the word of God. Cry out to Christ for a new vision of the glory of his grace. Dont be content with lukewarmness. Pursue a new passion for Christ.

And whichever of these groups you are in or if you are here full of love to God this morning let the remaining admonitions of this text stir you up to count everything as rubbish compared to the surpassing value of knowing Christ .

Gods Love Allows You To Change And Grow Into The Person He Wants You To Be

Either way, Christs love controls us. Since we believe that Christ died for all, we also believe that we have all died to our old life. He died for everyone so that those who receive His new life will no longer live for themselves. Instead, they will live for Christ, who died and was raised for them.

God loves you just as you are, but He also loves you enough to not let you stay how you are. He wants to see you grow and change for the better. He sent Jesus to die for your sins so this would be possible. When you receive Gods forgiveness and accept Gods help, you can begin to work toward positive, lasting change.

This is another way God acts as a loving parent toward you. Parents love their kids as they are, not just as they want them to be one day. Even if they have a toddler that never listens and regularly has meltdowns in public or a teenager on a rebellious streak, parents still love their kids. At the same time, they want to see their children grow, learn and make good choices in life. Good parents love their kids enough to set limits, give them guidance and walk beside them through the good and the bad.

God does this for you. Once you choose to begin a relationship with God, you experience His forgiveness. This allows you to let go of negative aspects of your personal history and move toward positive change. You also receive His Holy Spirit, who guides you, gives you strength and is present with you every day.

God Will Not Let You Down Because His Love Cannot Fail

Your unfailing love, O LORD, is as vast as the heavens your faithfulness reaches beyond the clouds. Your righteousness is like the mighty mountains, Your justice like the ocean depths. You care for people and animals alike, O LORD. How precious is Your unfailing love, O God! All humanity finds shelter in the shadow of Your wings.

You have probably been hurt or betrayed by someone you love at some point in your life. Maybe you have experienced this more than once. Loving and trusting other people is risky. Once one person hurts you, it becomes harder to open up to others.

In contrast, Gods love is truly unconditional. He never fails you or betrays you. You do not need to hold back in your relationship with God, because He is totally trustworthy.

When you feel let down by people, read these verses and remember this: Though people may let you down, God never will.

Jesus Loved His Mother

As Jesus was suffering on the cross He was worried about His mom and who was going to take care of her after He was gone. He made plans for her provision. He put one of His disciples in charge of taking care of her. What our Savior did was teach us that we are to provide and take care of our parents as much as we can. When you serve others you are serving Christ and showing your love for the Father.

5. John 19:26-27 When Jesus saw his mother there, and the disciple whom he loved standing nearby, he said to her, Woman, here is your son, and to the disciple, Here is your mother. From that time on, this disciple took her into his home.
