Encouraging Bible Verses For Women Who Struggle With Self

I was reading a book the other day that talked at length about Impostor Syndrome and it definitely rang a bell with me. Impostor syndrome is a term coined in 1978 by clinical psychologists Dr. Pauline R. Clance and Suzanne A. Imes referring to high-achieving individuals marked by an inability to internalize their accomplishments and a persistent fear of being exposed as a fraud. Impostor syndrome can be defined as a collection of feelings of inadequacy that persist even in face of information that indicates that the opposite is true. It is experienced internally as chronic self-doubt, and feelings of intellectual fraudulence. Basically it means that you have feelings that youre not good enough, smart enough, successful enough and that you are only posing as such when the total opposite is true. Although this is also true of men, women tend to experience these feelings more profoundly especially if they struggle with low self-esteem and self-worth. The enemy likes to lay huge guilt trips on us: were not good enough mothers and wives and that inner voice whispers loudly at us as we look in the mirror that were not pretty enough, or worthy enough for love. For you gals who really struggle with feelings of inadequacy and low self-worth here are some encouraging verses that tell us that God loves us for WHO WE ARE in Him. We are created Masterpieces in His eyes!

Psalm 46:5 God is within her, she will not fall God will help her at break of day.

Use these 19 Bible verses on confidence and self esteem as reminders of your identity in Christ and the strength God gives you as a child of the King.

Before we jump into the Bible verses on these topics, Id like to take a second to redefine the term self-esteem.

Self esteem is typically defined as confidence in ones own worth or abilities.

As a Christian, I define self esteem as having confidence that I am who God says I am.

Its not dependent on my own abilities , but instead on knowing that God will equip me for the work He has set out for me to do.

Bible Verses About Self Worth ~ The Hairs On Your Head Are Numbered

Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies? And not one of them is forgotten before God. Why, even the hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not you are of more value than many sparrows. Luke 12:6-7

Think about it you have a lot of hair on your head. When I comb my hair, I am not even sure about how many hairs come out of my own head. But God does, so imagine how valuable you are to him if he knows how many hairs on your head there are. So how can you possibly not understand your own self worth when God places so much value on even the little hair particles that are on your head. Think about it.

Why Should You Feel Worthy

What does the Bible say about self

Because you are a unique individual with inherent worth and value. No one can take that away from you.

What if you don’t feel worthy? It’s important to understand that feelings of unworthiness are usually based on false beliefs. These beliefs may be the result of messages you received during childhood or from experiences in your life.

You can challenge these false beliefs by recognizing them for what they are and replacing them with more accurate thoughts. For example, if you believe you’re not good enough, ask yourself why you feel that way. Is it because someone told you that in the past? Or is it because you think you have to be perfect to be worthy?

Replace these negative thoughts with positive ones. Remind yourself that you are worthy just as you are. Accept yourself flaws and all. Then give yourself permission to focus on your positive qualities and strengths.

When you start to see yourself in a more positive light, your feelings of unworthiness will begin to fade away. And as you become more accepting of yourself, you’ll also find it easier to accept others.

So love yourself today, flaws and all. Recognize that you are a valuable human being who deserves to be happy and healthy. Remember that you matter. You are worth it!

Christian Quotes About Self

Not one drop of my self-worth depends on your acceptance of me.

If you find yourself constantly trying to prove your worth to someone, you have already forgotten your value.

Your value doesnt decrease based on someones inability to see your worth.

Make sure you dont start seeing yourself through the eyes of those who dont value you. Know your worth even if they dont.

No one can make you feel inferior without your consent.

There is no reason to keep tearing yourself down when God is building you up everyday.

Never let your motivation to do well be centered on proving yourself to others. Let your motivation be centered on Christ.

God wants you to be rooted in the confidence that he makes you worthy.

Youre So Loved And Beautiful Beyond Imagination

The world will never comprehend. Even you will never comprehend the great love that God has for you! That is why we must look to Him. You are not in the world for nothing. Your life is not meaningless. Before creation God created you for Himself. He wants you to experience His love, He wants to spend time with you, He wants to tell you the special things of His heart. He never intended for you to look for confidence in yourself.

God says, Im going to be your confidence. It is important on our walk of faith that we get alone with God so we can allow God to work in us and through us. Before the world was created God looked forward to you. He anticipated to have time with you and to reveal Himself to you. He waited in anticipation! The Bible tells us that Gods heart beats faster and faster for you. Christians are the bride of Christ. Christ is the bridegroom. On a bridegrooms wedding night all it takes is one look at his bride and his heart beats faster and faster for the love of his life.

Now imagine the love of Christ! Our love grows dull, but the love of Christ never wavers. Before creation the Lord had many plans for you. He wanted to share His love with you so you would love Him more, He wanted to remove your doubts, your feelings of worthlessness, your feelings of hopelessness, and more. We have to get alone with God!

8. Romans 5:8 But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

Why Does God Want Us To Love Ourselves

Psalm 139:14 Self

God wants us to rightly esteem and value ourselves. This involves us knowing the truth about ourselves. We are sinful, liars, selfish, prideful, con men and women, who choose to live in rebellion to God.

And as a child of God we are also

  • Given grace and favor

So even though yes, we all have a multitude of sins, focusing our energy on negative thoughts and beating ourselves up over our wrong choices is not what God wants for us.

God Created Man In His Own Image

As a result of the fall we are all broken. Gods image has been perverted by sin. Through the first Adam the image of God was tarnished. Through the second Adam Jesus Christ believers have been redeemed. Adams disobedience resulted in brokenness. Christs perfection results in restoration. The gospel reveals your value. You are to die for! Christ bore our sins on the cross.

Though we struggle at times due to the effects of the fall. Through Christ we are being renewed daily. We were once a people plagued by that broken image, but through Christ we are being transformed to the perfect image of our Creator. For those struggling with self-esteem we must pray for the Lord to continue to conform us into His image. This takes our focus off of self and puts it on the Lord. We were made for God not the world.

The world says we need this, we need this, we need this. No! We were made for Him, we were made in His image, and we were made for His will. We have a purpose. We are fearfully and wonderfully made! Its amazing that we get to be image bearers of a glorious God! The world teaches that we need to work on ourselves and that is the problem. How can the problem be the solution?

We dont have the answers and all of these man made solutions are temporary, but the Lord is eternal! Its either you create a temporary identity for yourself or you can choose the everlasting identity for yourself that is found and secure in Christ.

What Does The Bible Say About Self Worth

Often we put our self-worth in the type of clothes that we wear, the type of car that we drive, our accomplishments, our financial status, our relationship status, our talents, our appearance, etc. If you do this you will end up feeling broken and depressed.

You will feel like youre in shackles until you realize that Christ has set you free. Yes Christ has saved us from sin, but He has also saved us from the brokenness of having the worlds mindset.

Dont let sin take away your joy. Dont let the world take away your joy. The world will not take away your joy if your joy doesnt come from the world. Allow it to come from the perfect merit of Christ.

Christ is the answer to all self-worth issues that may arise in your life. You are more to God than you can ever imagine!

You are altogether beautiful, my love there is no flaw in you. Song of Solomon 4:7

This is probably one of the most straight forward Bible verses about self worth because it is literally telling you that you are beautiful, and you are not flawed even when you think you are. I want you to read my separate blog on how these women used their flaws to actually step into their purpose which you can .

Because the fact of the matter is that the things that you see as flaws in yourself may be the very things that may cause you to stand out from the crowd and therefore are not really flaws at all. But rather unique attributes yourself that make us stand out and that makes us different. So, try to view your flaws not as things you hate but as something you can embrace.
