How Did King Solomon Die
King Solomon succeeded his father, King David. He was the wealthiest and most wise king of Israel. The reign of Solomon ruled from 970 to 931 BC. According to official information, King Solomon was King Davids second son and his wife, Bathsheba. However, many people and historians believe that King Solomon was the 17th son of David and his wife. So the opportunity for him to succeed his father is impossible.
In fact, in 970 BC, Solomon became a king thanks to the great support of the prophet Nathan. After the event, his half-brother Adonijah, the heir of King David, began a plan to usurp the throne of Solomon.
However, King Solomon began his reign with a sweeping purge to quickly establish his power. To strengthen his kingship, he exterminated Adonijah and appointed many of his buddies throughout the government.
When King Solomon was 82, he died in 931 BC. Many religions and scholars believe that he died of normal causes. However, many others believe that his death was a punishment from God because he didnt obeyed God in the last years of his life.
Although they could draw conclusions for how did King Solomon die, they truly appreciated and admired him for his level of wisdom, knowledge, and great strength.
Solomon Dies And The Kingdom Is Divided
1 Kings 11:14-22 Following the near defeat of Solomons chief ally, Pharaoh Ramesses II of Egypt, by the Hittites at the Battle of Kadesh in c.939BC , King Hadad of Edom rebels and refuses to pay tribute to Solomon.

The Treaty of Kadesh
The Battle of Kadesh in c.939BC is one of the great turning points in history that is not recorded in the Bible. But it had a tremendous influence on events that took place shortly afterwards in Israel.
During the reign of King Solomon, Israels most important ally was Egypt. It was in Egypts interest to support Solomon in order to defend the major trade route that went north from Egypt via the coastal plain of Palestine and across the Vale of Jezreel to their great trading partners in the lowlands of Mesopotamia.
Towards the end of Solomons reign, this important trading route was threatened by the southward expansion of the Hittite empire based on the Anatolian Plateau in modern-day Turkey . In the fifth year of his reign, Pharaoh Ramesses II decided to take decisive action against the Hittites. He marched north along the Plain of Sharon with thousands of soldiers and chariots, and moved inland to confront the Hittites at Kadesh, north of Damascus.
King Hadad of Edom was the first to rebel against paying tribute to King Solomon . He was followed soon after by King Rezon of Damascus .

Kings : 3644 The Punishment Of Shimei
Continuing to follow the final counsel of his father , Solomon now undertook to punish Shimei. At first this punishment may seem vindictive on Davidâs part and cruel for Solomon to follow through with it, since all Shimei had done was to curse David and throw rocks at him . At that time, however, Davidâs kingdom was rent by civil war. Shimeiâs action was therefore equivalent to treason against the government.
There may have been an additional reason for Davidâs counsel to Solomon. Shimei was from Bahurim, which was a short distance east of Jerusalem. The Ammonites and Moabites who lived across the River Jordan were traditional enemies of Israel. To have a known enemy of the crown in a city where the Ammonites and Moabites could easily go to conspire with him would have provided future opportunity for treason. This situation may explain Davidâs counsel.
Solomonâs treatment of Shimei was just and tolerant. He could have had Shimei executed by royal order. Instead, Solomon brought him to Jerusalem and made him swear on oath that he would not cross the Brook Kidron, the eastern boundary of Jerusalem. This restriction lends further support to the idea that Solomon did not want Shimei collaborating with the eastern enemies of Israel.

King Solomon was the wisest man who ever lived and also one of the most foolish. God gifted him with unsurpassed wisdom, which Solomon squandered by disobeying God’s commandments. Some of Solomons most famous achievements were his building projects, particularly the temple in Jerusalem.
Gods House And Solomons House
Solomon is probably known the best for sponsoring and overseeing the construction of the temple in Jerusalem . Much of this section reads like those detailed blueprints you read about the sacred tabernacle built in the time of Moses . This is great for God to dwell among his people in an elaborate and ornate structure. And this building is over the top. For example, the most holy space in the tabernacle was a perfect cube , but Solomons was double the size . He made two more giant, golden cherubim to overshadow the two that were already on top of the ark . This is such a great space, surely its all for honoring the reputation of the God of Israel. Were told at the conclusion of the building account, that Solomon spent seven years building the temple .
Thats a lot of time. Then we read the next sentence:
However, it took Solomon thirteen years to complete the construction of his own palace.
How are you supposed to take a statement like that? Is it just a statement of fact, no judgment attached? Or is it a subtle critique exposing that Solomons wisdom was only skin-deep, and that his ego is expanding along with his kingdom? You have to keep reading .
So maybe the slavery and marriage to Pharaohs daughter werent that big of a deal. Surely God has endorsed Solomons kingdom

Kings 1: 110 What Can We Conclude Regarding Solomons Many Marriages
Solomon married âstrange women,â that is, foreign women, or those not of the covenant. Solomonâs marriages were for political expediency and perhaps for personal reasons as well. But these women brought to Israel their idols and heathen worship, which corrupted not only Solomon but the people also.
According to the Doctrine and Covenants, however, some of Solomonâs wives were given to him of the Lord: âDavid also received many wives and concubines, and also Solomon and Moses my servants, as also many others of my servants, from the beginning of creation until this time and in nothing did they sin save in those things which they received not of meâ .
President Joseph Fielding Smith further explained that the Lord âdid not condemn Solomon and David for having wives which the Lord gave them.
âNow turn to 12:7â8 and you will find that the Lord gave David wives. In your reading of the Old Testament you will also find that Solomon was blessed and the Lord appeared to him and gave him visions and great blessings when he had plural wives, but later in his life, he took wives that the Lord did not give him.â
Kings : 38 Who Were The Cherethites And The Pelethites
The Cherethites were âa people who were settled alongside the Philistines in southern Palestine . In the reign of David they formed, with the Pelethites, his private bodyguard under the command of Benaiah the son of Jehoida . They remained loyal to him through the rebellions of Absalom and Sheba , and were present when Solomon was anointed for kingship .â

Kings : 1011 The Glory Of God
Before Solomon gave the dedicatory prayer, a cloud of glory filled the house of God, indicating the very presence of God. That this glory should accompany the dedication exercises is interesting for Latter-day Saints, since a similar glory attended the dedication of the Kirtland Temple on 27 March 1836. Many present reported seeing angels and hearing the âsound of a rushing mighty wind, which filled the Temple,â and many in the community reported âseeing a bright light like a pillar of fire resting upon the Templeâ . The special events attending the dedication of both temples are signs of the Lordâs divine acceptance of the houses built in His name to His honor.
Apocryphal Or Deuterocanonical Texts
Rabbinical tradition attributes the Wisdom of Solomon to Solomon, although this book was probably written in the 2nd century BCE. In this work, Solomon is portrayed as an astronomer. Other books of wisdom poetry such as the Odes of Solomon and the Psalms of Solomon also bear his name. The Jewish historian Eupolemus, who wrote about 157 BCE, included copies of apocryphal letters exchanged between Solomon and the kings of Egypt and Tyre.
The GnosticApocalypse of Adam, which may date to the 1st or 2nd century, refers to a legend in which Solomon sends out an army of demons to seek a virgin who had fled from him, perhaps the earliest surviving mention of the later common tale that Solomon controlled demons and made them his slaves. This tradition of Solomon’s control over demons appears fully elaborated in the early pseudoepigraphical work called the Testament of Solomon with its elaborate and grotesque demonology.
As with most biblical personages in the middle era of Israelite society, the historicity of Solomon is hotly debated. Current consensus states that regardless of whether or not a man named Solomon truly reigned as king over the Judean hills in the tenth century BCE, the Biblical descriptions of his apparent empire’s lavishness is almost surely an anachronistic exaggeration.

The Wisdom Of Solomon
From the first book of Kings, Chapter 3, this Bible story illustrates the wisdom of King Solomon as he loved the Lord and relied on Him for insight. Two mothers living in the same house, each the mother of an infant son, came to Solomon. One of the babies had died, and each claimed the remaining boy as her own. Calling for a sword, Solomon declared his judgment: the baby would be cut in two, each woman to receive half. One mother did not contest the ruling, declaring that if she could not have the baby then neither of them could, but the other begged Solomon, “Give the baby to her, just don’t kill him!”
The king declared the second woman the true mother, as a mother would even give up her baby if that was necessary to save its life. “All Israel heard of the judgment that the king had rendered, and they stood in awe of the king because they perceived the wisdom of God was in him to do justice.”

How Many Times Was Solomons Temple Rebuilt
Terminology. Despite the fact that the Temple is referred to as a single institution in this passage, it is vital to remember that the Jerusalem Temple was destroyed and rebuilt at least three times throughout ancient times. The first was built during the reign of Solomon, as detailed in great detail in 1 Kings 5-6, and was constructed approximately during the 10th century BCE.

Kings : 18 Solomons Palace
It took an additional thirteen years to build Solomonâs palace . Solomonâs palace âconsisted of several buildings connected together namely, the house of the forest of Lebanon the pillar-hall with the porch the throne-room and judgment-hall the kingâs dwelling-house and the house of Pharaohâs daughter . ⦠The description of the several portions of this palace is so very brief, that it is impossible to form a distinct idea of its character. The different divisions are given in vers. 1â8 in their natural order, commencing at the back and terminating with the front .â

Objects Found Next To The Temple Mount
- In 2018 and a few years previously, two First Temple period stone weights used for weighing half-shekel Temple donations were found during excavations under Robinson’s Arch at the foot of the Temple Mount. Elder James E. Talmage explained how the prophetic warning was ignored and came to fulfillment: âThe glorious pre-eminence of this splendid structure was of brief duration.
