34-year-old Stuart K Hine has been cycling through the mountains for weeks, sharing the good news of the gospel and giving out Bibles.

Inspired by the wonder of Gods creation, he is already halfway through composing the words of a song that will one day be sung all over the world. Seeing such a moment of revelation for the people of this village, he writes again.

Development Of Christian Hymnody

, in the introduction to his commentary on the Psalms, defined the Christian hymn thus: “Hymnus est laus Dei cum cantico canticum autem exultatio mentis de aeternis habita, prorumpens in vocem.”

The resulted in two conflicting attitudes towards hymns. One approach, the , favoured by many Zwinglians, Calvinists and some radical reformers, considered anything that was not directly authorised by the Bible to be a novel and Catholic introduction to worship, which was to be rejected. All hymns that were not direct quotations from the Bible fell into this category. Such hymns were banned, along with any form of instrumental musical accompaniment, and organs were removed from churches. The Story Behind How Great Thou Art

Stuart K. Hine was a Bristish Methodist missionary on a mission trip in Ukraine in 1931 when he heard the Russian translation of a German song inspired by Carl Boberg’s poem “O Store Gud” . Hine began to translation the song to English and added several verses. The third verse was inspired by the conversion of villagers in Russia who cried out to God loudly as the repented and realized God’s love and mercy – “And when I think that God, His Son not sparing, sent Him to die, I scarce can take it in.”

Stuart Hine and his family left Ukraine as famine and World War Two began, and settled in Somerset, Britain where he continued to serve as a missionary to Polish refugees. The forth verse of “How Great Thou Art” was inspired by displaced Russians who experienced great loss and looked forward to seeing their loved ones again in heaven – “When Christ shall come with shoult of acclamation to take me home, what joy shall fill my heart.”

The final English version of “How Great Thou Art” was published in 1949 and quickly spread among Britian, Africa, India and America.

The time we spend in partaking of the Lords Supper lets the Lord know that we will never forget the great sacrifice He made that we might be cleansed from our sins. He knows we are keeping alive and fresh in our memories His crucifixion. The death of Jesus on the cross is the very heart and core of the Gospel. He is pleased when He sees us read with great respect from His Word.

The preaching of the gospel is special in that it strengthens us as well as bringing those, outside of Christ into fellowship with Him by hearing His word declared and submitting themselves to His will.

Our giving is special to Him as it shows that we want to see the gospel carried into all the world.

Origin Of How Great Thou Art

Stuart K. Hine, a British Methodist missionary who was on a mission trip in Ukraine in 1931, heard the Russian translation of a German song inspired by Carl Bobergs poem O Store Gud . Stuart K. Hine began translating the song to English and was inspired to add a few verses.

How Great Thou Art

“How Great Thou Art” is a Christian hymn based on a Swedish traditional melody and a poem written by Carl Boberg in Mönsterås, Sweden, in 1885. It was translated into German and then into Russian it was translated into English from the Russian by English missionary Stuart K. Hine, who also added two original verses of his own. The hymn was popularised by George Beverly Shea and Cliff Barrows during the Billy Graham crusades. It was voted the British public’s favourite hymn by BBC‘s Songs of Praise. “How Great Thou Art” was ranked second on a list of the favourite hymns of all time in a survey by Christianity Today magazine in 2001.

14:12 Fallen – From the height of thy glory. Lucifer – Which properly is a bright star, that ushers in the morning but is here metaphorically taken for the mighty king of Babylon. Son – The title of son is given in scripture not only to a person or thing begotten or produced by another, but also to any thing which is related, to it, in which sense we read of the son of a night, #Jonah 4:10|, a son of perdition, #John 17:12|, and, which is more agreeable, to the present case, the sons of Arcturus, #Job 38:32|.
