Biblical Description Of Heaven

How many Heavens are described in the Bible

1 Corinthians 2:9-10 says, The things God has prepared for those who love him are revealed to us by his Spirit. To counter false, unbiblical notions, we need to study and meditate on words taught by the Spirit . Our eternal home is a real place where we will reside in real, physical bodies and where we will experience everlasting joys, rewards, and treasures .

God dwells there and the light of Jesus will permeate every corner of this place . Charles Spurgeon said, To the lover of Jesus it is very pleasant to observe how the Lord Jesus Christ has always stood foremost in glory from before the foundation of the world and will do so as long as eternity shall last.

We shall see the Lord face-to-face . The fact that our all-knowing, all-powerful Creator will dwell with us and we shall know him in an even more intimate way should be sufficient for the true Christian to rest assured that they will be satisfied there, but the Bible gives us many other glimpses of what this place will be like.

1. Eradication of evil. Jesus promised that when he returns, he will send out his angels to weed out of his kingdom everything that causes sin and all who do evil, and then the righteous will shine like the sun in the kingdom of their Father .

2. Perfect friendships. Think of all the Old Testaments saints or Christians down through history that you would like to meet Abraham, Moses, Hannah, the Apostle Paul, Hudson Taylor, Amy Carmichael, Jim Elliot, Corrie Ten Boom.

What Is Heaven What Will Be Revealed Then

The other way of looking at this is by considering the heaven to come. Since heaven will eventually be our eternal home, how many of those heavens are there? Or is it just one place? Here is what the Bible says about our eternal dwelling place

Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea. I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, Look! Gods dwelling place is now among the people, and he will dwell with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God .

Our eternal home, which we often refer to as heaven, the Bible refers to it as the new Jerusalem coming down out of heaven from God. In the same way God originally created the earth for man to dwell in, God has created this new Jerusalem for his people to dwell in. This new Jerusalem appears after all the events of the end of the age and judgment have been completed. In this dwelling place, we will experience the fullness of Gods presence and dwell with him forever.

How Do You Get To Heaven

Contrary to popular belief, the Bible says we do not go to heaven or hell when we die. We sleep in the grave until the resurrection as the Bible says: “And many of those who sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, some to shame and everlasting contempt” .

The entrance to heaven is not automatic for people who have simply tried to be good. The Bible says: “But there shall by no means enter it anything that defiles, or causes an abomination or a lie, but only those who are written in the Lambs Book of Life” . The qualifying factor for those who enter will be whether or not their names are written in the Lambs book of life.

How Many People Will Be In Heaven

The Bible doesnt specify the exact number of people who will be in heaven, but it contains descriptions that suggest its a large number. For example, in the book of Revelation, John sees a crowd that couldnt be counted.

After this I looked, and behold, a great multitude that no one could number, from every nation, from all tribes and peoples and languages, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed in white robes, with palm branches in their hands.

What does the great multitude mean? The phrase great multitude refers to an enormous crowd of people. The phrase that no one could number may suggest a group of people numbering in the millions, hundreds of millions, or more. John adds that the crowd consists of people from all over the world. The multitudes worship and praise of the Lamb, who is Jesus Christ, unites them in heaven.

Translation
CEV a large crowd with more people than could be counted

What does the great multitude have to do with the 144,000 described in the previous passage? The 144,000 are believers who are preparing for battle on Earth . In context, the number has nothing to do with how many people can enter heaven . The great multitude is a description of victorious believers .

Some Bible scholars and theologians describe the groups with these terms:

  • The 144,000 is a description of the Church militant
  • The great multitude is a description of the Church triumphant

Three Meanings Of Heaven

How many Heavens are described in the Bible

1) The word “heaven” can mean Gods dwelling place. The Bible says: “The LORD has established His throne in heaven, and His kingdom rules over all” . Gods throne is also mentioned in connection with the mountain of God .

2) Heaven may also refer to the endless planets, stars, and galaxies of the universe. The Bible says: “When I consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers, the moon and the stars, which You have ordained” .

3) The Bible also speaks of the atmosphere that surrounds the earth as heaven or heavens . Please note: one must study the biblical context to understand which of the three meanings is implied.

Heaven Has Mansions Where We Will Dwell With Jesus

In My Fathers house are many mansions if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself that where I am, there you may be also .

From my back window, I can see impressive-looking homes dotting the landscape of the foothills. Considered mansions by the worlds standards, I know they dont even come close to the mansions prepared for the saints in heaven.

Before His death, Jesus comforted his disciples with the promise that he would go and provide a place for them. The most beautiful part was His assurance that He would return for them and receive them unto Himself.

No matter how spectacular the mansions in our Fathers house, dwelling with Jesus will be the most beautiful habitation of all. Welcomed into heaven by the Way, the Truth, and the Life, will be the culmination of the hope we have in Christ.

Why Was The Book Of Enoch Removed

Bro. Eli: How many heavens are there according to the Bible?

The Book of Enoch was considered as scripture in the Epistle of Barnabas and by many of the early Church Fathers, such as Athenagoras, Clement of Alexandria, Irenaeus and Tertullian, who wrote c. 200 that the Book of Enoch had been rejected by the Jews because it contained prophecies pertaining to Christ.

The Place Where God Dwells

The third heaven which Paul referred to in 2 Corinthians is the place where Gods presence dwells, where his throne is. Here are two other mentions of this.

In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord, high and exalted, seated on a throne and the train of his robe filled the temple .

But Stephen, full of the Holy Spirit, looked up to heaven and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing at the right hand of God. Look, he said, I see heaven open and the Son of Man standing at the right hand of God .

These are all pictures and images of heaven where God reigns and rules. This is the heaven you typically think about when you think about the presence of God.

Heaven Will Be Filled With Peace Joy And Praise

Therefore they are before the throne of God, and serve Him day and night in His temple. And He who sits on the throne will dwell among them. They shall neither hunger anymore nor thirst anymore the sun shall not strike them, nor any heat for the Lamb who is in the midst of the throne will shepherd them and lead them to living fountains of waters. And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes .

Those who have come out of the great tribulation will remain before the throne of God forever.

With pure joy and adoration, they will serve Him night and day. Jesus, the Good Shepherd, will lead them to fountains of living waters, never to thirst again. Every tear will be wiped away by the merciful hand of God and they will rest in the shade of His presence.

I imagine the saints will have just as much joy, after ten thousand years of serving God, as they had on the first day. Just like the old hymn says

When weve been there ten thousand years, bright shining as the sun, weve no less days to sing Gods praise than when wed first begun.

Are There Multiple Heavens

There are two ways to address this topic: what we know now and what we will know then. Lets first answer this question in relation to what we know now. Lets begin with a look at 2 Corinthians.

I know a man in Christ who fourteen years ago was caught up to the third heaven. Whether it was in the body or out of the body I do not knowGod knows .

When you begin thinking about how many heavens there are, Paul gives some food for thought. In writing this letter most scholars agree that Paul is talking about himself. What he mentions here is the idea of a third heaven. If you are going to apply simple logic, if there is a third heaven, then there must be a first and second one as well.

Lets be clear the Bible does not use the term first or second heaven. I am going to use these terms today but simply as a means of distinction. With that in mind lets consider these three heavens.

The Stars And The Galaxy

Bible Versions

If the atmosphere and the sky are the first heaven, then you could consider the stars and galaxy the second heaven. Again as a reminder, the Bible does not use this term I am just using it as a term of clarification or distinction.

When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place .

If the first heaven can include what we can see, then the second heaven begins to go beyond what we can see. In Hebrews, we see a reference to our Savior who passed through the heavens when he ascended

Inasmuch then as we have a great High Priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession .

What Does The Bible Say About How Many Will Enter Heaven

What Will Heaven Be Like

I would like to attempt the impossible: to answer the 35 most frequently asked questions about Heaven. Obviously, it would take more than an article, more than a lifetime, and more than human wisdom to answer any one of these questions adequately. But “fools rush in where angels fear to tread.”

More seriously, sometimes a taste can whet the appetite for more complete consumption later on, and perhaps these samples will at least suggest ways to think about the subject.

1. How do we know anything about Heaven, anyway?

If we had no “inside information,” we could only speculate. Fortunately, we have some solid data to build on: divine revelation. I think God wants us to use our reason and also our imagination to explore the treasure of tantalizing hints in Scripture. To be indifferent to it is to be like the unprofitable servant who hid his master’s talent in the ground.

In having this data, we are in a position very different from that of the unbeliever . We are like the sighted compared to the blind, who can only speculate about things visible. We can do more than speculate about things invisible.

“What do you know about Heaven, anyway? Have you ever been there?” We can answer this challenge: “No, but I have a very good Friend who has. He came here and told us about it and showed it to us. He is the Way, the Truth, and the Life.”

2. Why won’t we be bored in Heaven?

3. Will we recognize our loved ones in Heaven?

What Who Is God

God has been conceived as either personal or impersonal. In theism, God is the creator and sustainer of the universe, while in deism, God is the creator, but not the sustainer, of the universe. In the Christian doctrine of the Trinity, one God coexists in three persons called the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

HOW MANY HEAVENS ARE THERE?

1) All things are new“Now I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away. Also there was no more sea. Then I, John, saw the holy city, New Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband” .

2) No tears or pain“And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away” .

3) Perfect peace“‘The wolf and the lamb shall feed together, the lion shall eat straw like the ox, and dust the serpents food. They shall not hurt nor destroy in all My holy mountain,’ says the LORD” .

4) Houses and vineyards“They shall build houses and inhabit them they shall plant vineyards and eat their fruit” .

5) Fruitful gardens“The wilderness and the wasteland shall be glad for them, and the desert shall rejoice and blossom as the rose” .

Precious Gemstones Will Adorn Heaven

Come, I will show you the bride, the Lambs wife. And he carried me away in the Spirit to a great and high mountain, and showed me the great city, the holy Jerusalem, descending out of heaven from God, having the glory of God. Her light was like a most precious stone, like a jasper stone, clear as crystal .

An incredibly rare gemstone called taaffeite was discovered in Sri Lanka in 1945. Since then, only a handful of these gems have been found. This rarely seen beauty makes them highly sought after and valuable.

In heaven, the light of the great city of Jerusalem will be like a glorious stone, shining pure like crystal. Its radiance will outshine any precious gem on earth and its value will be immeasurable. Covered in the glory of God, the holy Jerusalem will descend with brilliance.

Out of Zion, the perfection of beauty, God will shine forth .

Every treasure man holds valuable will pale in comparison to the magnificent city of heaven. Precious stones will lavishly adorn the walls of Jerusalem.

The foundations of the wall of the city were adorned with all kinds of precious stones: the first foundation was jasper, the second sapphire, the third chalcedony, the fourth emerald, the fifth sardonyx, the sixth sardius, the seventh chrysolite, the eighth beryl, the ninth topaz, the tenth chrysoprase, the eleventh jacinth, and the twelfth amethyst .
