How Many Times Is Love Mentioned In The Bible

John : 1: He First Loved Us

The truth is, God has open arms of love for the one whom repents. God will go as far as forgiving the stripper, racist, drug addict, murderer, gossiper, and all the other types of sinners. The Bible is littered with sinners that God still used because they repented David the adulterer & murder, Paul the Christian murder, etc.

These characters became MAJOR figures in the Bible because they knew they didnt deserve Gods love and favor Yet, they received it. We love, because He first loved us. 1 John 4:19 God even pointed to a sinful woman in the Bible and highlighted that she was able to LOVE more because she had received so much of Gods love.

I tell you, her sinsand they are manyhave been forgiven, so she has shown me much love. But a person who is forgiven little shows only little love. Luke 7:47

This absolutely blows my mind. There have been times in my life where I wanted revenge and I wanted someone to suffer Gods wrath because of the sin they committed against me. God reminded me, that He loves them just as much as me. And it is my calling as a Christians to love and pray for sinners just as much as God would.

God wants his children to pick up their cross daily and lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters. This entails putting others before our own needs. Just like Jesus did. Related Article: What Does It Mean To Lay Down Your Life for Your Brother? 1 John 3:16-18

Love In The New Testament

What makes the New Testament new is the appearance of the Son of God on the scene of human history. In Jesus Christ we see as never before a revelation of God. As he said, If you have seen me, you have seen the Father . For in a real sense, Jesus was God. .

But the coming of Christ not only brings about the revelation of God. By his death and resurrection Christ also brings about the salvation of men . This salvation includes forgiveness of sins , access to God , the hope of eternal life , and a new heart which is inclined to do good deeds .

Therefore, when dealing with love, we must try to relate everything to Jesus Christ and his life, death and resurrection. In the life and death of Christ we see in a new way what Gods love is and what mans love for God and for others should be. And through faith, the Spirit of Christ, living in us enables us to follow his example.

Working The Good For Those Who Love Him

And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.

One of the New Testaments most inspiring promises is that God is right in the middle of the experiences of those who love Him. There isn’t anything youre going through that’s beyond God’s influence or reach. And no matter how bad our experiences may be, God is at work to bring good out of them.

No matter what were going through, God is weaving it into His plan and using it to transform us. We may not see how it’s possible at the moment, which is why we need to take on faith that God is at work bringing good out of our darkest moments.

What Are The 4 Types Of Love In The Bible

So lets look at the four types of love found in the Bible. How many times love is mentioned in the bible in various forms, we will read about it now in this section.

We may not actively differentiate one use of love from another, in part because our expression is becoming more and more casual, but its important to be intentional about the differences. Scripture teaches us, as we know, that love is the highest attribute.

Storge Love In The Bible

How Many Times Is Love Mentioned in the Bible?

Its evident that more than just Eros is present in Gods love for His church. Storge is there too. is familial affection, the kind that comes from kinship or close contact. It can be felt for a pet as much as for a family member or regular acquaintance. God feels this for us insofar as He is our Parent and we His adopted children.

God said to Israel, Can a woman forget her nursing child, or lack compassion for the son of her womb? Though she may forget, I will not forget you! . The Psalmist says in Psalm 27:10, Though my father and mother forsake me, the LORD will receive me. In Exodus 4:22 God says, Israel is my firstborn son. Jesus looks on Jerusalem and speaks the words of God to his people in Matthew 23:37: O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, who kills the prophets and stones those sent to her, how often I have longed to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, but you were unwilling! This kind of love is one that we are supposed to imitate toward God and toward certain other people, but we should not expect to feel it for everyone. The love we should feel for everyone is Agape.

Gods Love For His Son

In the Old Testament we saw that God loves his own glory and delights to display it in creation and redemption. A deeper dimension of this self-love becomes clear in the New Testament. It is still true that God aims in all his works to display his glory for men to enjoy and praise . But what we learn now is that Christ reflects the very glory of God and bears the stamp of his nature . In him dwells all the fullness of deity . In short, Christ is God and has eternally existed in a mysterious union with his Father . Therefore, Gods self-love, or his love for his own glory, can now be seen as a love for the glory of Christ who is the likeness of God . The love that God the Father has for the Son is expressed often in the Gospel of John and occasionally elsewhere . This love within the Trinity itself is important for Christians for two reasons: First, the costly beauty of the incarnation and death of Christ cannot be understood without it. Second, it is the very love of the Father for the Son which the Father pours into the hearts of believers . The ultimate hope of the Christian is to see the glory of God in Christ , to be with him and to delight in him as much as his Father does .

Love God And Keep His Commandments

Know therefore that the Lord your God is God he is the faithful God, keeping his covenant of love to a thousand generations of those who love him and keep his commandments.

God established the connection between loving and obeying Him early in Scripture. He wanted Israel to understand that they couldn’t separate loving Him from obeying His commandments. The two were the same.

Jesus reiterated this idea in the Gospels when He asked, “Why do you call me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ and do not do what I say?” .

For God So Loved The World

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

In one of the Bible’s most well-known verses, Jesus lays out the gospel message clearly for a Pharisee named Nicodemus. Jesus’s whole mission on earth served as a sign of God’s incredible love for humanity.

But it’s not Gods love that would have surprised Nicodemus. It’s Gods love for the whole world that he would have struggled to wrap his mind around. God’s love wasn’t centered on Israel. And because of this amazing love, anyoneJew, Greek, Roman, Samaritanwho believed in Christ would experience eternal life.

You Have Heard That It Was Said Love Your Neighbor And Hate Your Enemy

Why Does Jesus REALLY Speak in Parables? | Mark 4 | Beyond the Words

But I Tell You, Love Your Enemies and Pray for Those Who Persecute You, That You May Be Children of Your Father in Heaven. He Causes His Sun to Rise on the Evil and the Good, and Sends Rain on the Righteous and the Unrighteous. Matthew 5:43-45

This verse about loving your enemies is a powerful statement that would differentiate Christians from pagans. Pagans love only their friends and never their enemies. However, Christians love their friends and their enemies. Through Gods grace, Christians can perform this holy act.

It is tough to love a person who has done you wrong and who opposes you every chance he/she gets your enemy. Nevertheless, the Bible instructs readers to love them. Loving your enemy may be a Calvary at first, but with Gods spirit, you can do it.

Eventually, you will find the blessings derived from loving your enemy. You will have peace of mind. The hatred that has been consuming your being and making you ill and depressed would disappear instantly.

The Bible teaches you to love because love would make your world more peaceful and happier.

Hesed Steadfast Loving Kindness And Mercy

This is one of my favorite words in the entire Bible. The word “hesed,” pronounced “kheh’-sed,” appears 248 times in Scripture and is the predominant way God describes his love for us in the Old Testament.

Hesed is different from ahab in that it depends not on a deep emotional bond but faithfulness and covenant choice. Though emotion is in this word, it is more than that. This word is often translated as mercy, faithfulness, and dedication to his people. Author Dr. Lois Verburg says,

“Hesed is a bone-weary father who drives through the night to bail his drug-addict son out of jail. Hesed is a mom who spends day after thankless day spoon-feeding and wiping up after a disabled child. Hesed is an unsung pastor’s wife whose long-suffering, tearful prayers keep her exhausted husband from falling apart at the seams. Hesed is love that can be counted on, decade after decade. it’s not about the thrill of romance but the security of faithfulness. “

This truly is the love of God for his people.

What Is Storge Love In The Bible

Storge is a term for love in the Bible that you may not be familiar with. This Greek word describes family love, the affectionate bond that develops naturally between parents and children, and brothers and sisters.

Many examples of family love are found in Scripture, such as the mutual protection among Noah and his wife, the love of Jacob for his sons, and the strong love the sisters had for their brother Lazarus. An interesting compound word using storge, “philostorgos,” is found in Romans 12:10, which commands believers to “be devoted” to one another with brotherly affection.

Christians are members of God’s family. Our lives are knit together by something stronger than physical tiesthe bonds of the Spirit. We are related by something more powerful than human bloodthe blood of Jesus Christ. God calls his children to love each other with the deep affection of storge love.

Word Counts: How Many Times Does A Word Appear In The Bible

The table below gives some word counts for four popular versions of the Bible. There is no single correct way to translate the ancient Hebrew, Aramaic and Greek Bible manuscripts into English. The grammar, structure, and style of those languages are very different from English, and a literal word-for-word translation is not possible. Therefore, the number of times a particular word appears is usually different for each version of the Bible.

So, in your count you dont have the word LAW! Why not? Is it because you dont want to keep it and therefore believe that it is or was done away with? The LAW is still in effect today as it has been for all time! I also disagree with your statement on getting a correct or even close translation from Hebrew, Aramaic to English!

What Is Eros Love In The Bible

Eros is the Greek word for sensual or romantic love. The term originated from the mythological Greek god of love, sexual desire, physical attraction, and physical love, Eros, whose Roman counterpart was Cupid.

Love in the form of Eros seeks its own interest and satisfactionto possess the object of love. God is very clear in the Bible that eros love is reserved for marriage. Promiscuity of all types was rampant in ancient Greek culture and was one of the obstacles the apostle Paul had to battle when planting churches in the eastern Mediterranean. Paul warned young believers against succumbing to immorality: “So I say to those who arent married and to widowsits better to stay unmarried, just as I am. But if they cant control themselves, they should go ahead and marry. Its better to marry than to burn with lust.”

But within the boundary of marriage, eros love is to be celebrated and enjoyed as beautiful blessing from God: “Let your fountain be blessed, and rejoice in the wife of your youth, a lovely deer, a graceful doe. Let her breasts fill you at all times with delight be intoxicated always in her love.”

Even though the term eros is not found in the Old Testament, Song of Solomon vividly portrays the passion of erotic love.

10 Words that will CHANGE the Way You Read the BIBLE

This verse is said by almost every person on Earth at some point in their lives, whether it be a mother to her fighting children or a dog mom to her barking puppies. The word love was made to connect those around us with feelings of joy and happiness.

However, love does not come easy, and simply saying you love someone is different than showing it. We show love in many ways: holding someone’s hand when they are scared, calling a friend to ask if they got home safe, or even through acts in marriage.

The Song of Solomon mentions love in a more attraction-based context.

While many Christians believe love should be proven in ways other than intercourse before marriage, being a faithful and Godly partner is only half the battle of being in a relationship.

Love can seem like a simple concept before reading the Bible. You will notice that, as you read, the Bible can make many meanings out of love. Those who Love God will know peace.
