How Many Times In The Bible Is Love Mentioned
This is a blog about how many times love is mentioned in the Bible. It will also provide some examples of what the Bible says about love.
The word love is used over 100 times in the Bible, and it appears more than 800 times overall. The first time that love is mentioned in the Bible is in Genesis 2:4-5. In this passage, God says It is not good for man to be alone I will make him a helper comparable to him. This shows that from the beginning of time, Gods plan was for humans to be in relationship with each other.
In 1 Corinthians 13:1-8, Paul describes what love looks like through a list of characteristics or qualities that characterize it:
Love is patient, kind, humble, peaceful, forgiving, generous and selfless .
Different Kinds Of Love In The Bible
A famous example in the Gospels where the limitations of Englishs one word is apparent comes from the Gospel of John. After the resurrection, Jesus appeared to some of His disciples while they were fishing. One of them was Peter, who denied Jesus three times the night of His Lords arrest. The Bible records:
When they had finished breakfast, Jesus said to Simon Peter, Simon, son of John, do you love me more than these? He said to him, Yes, Lord you know that I love you. He said to him, Feed my lambs. He said to him a second time, Simon, son of John, do you love me? He said to him, Yes, Lord you know that I love you. He said to him, Tend my sheep. He said to him the third time, Simon, son of John, do you love me? Peter was grieved because he said to him the third time, Do you love me? and he said to him, Lord, you know everything you know that I love you. Jesus said to him, Feed my sheep .
The first two times Jesus asked Peter if he loved Him, Jesus used the appropriate form of agáp Peter responded, with a form of philía, a lesser form of love, less familiar and less intimate. The third time, Jesus uses a form of philía, to which Peter finally responded with agáp. While the essence of the conversation can be gleaned in the English, there is a deeper level of communication missed.

So There Is Historical Tradition To Show That These Verses Arent Relating To Homosexuality
Absolutely! Sometimes Im frustrated when speak with pastors who say, Well I believe the historical tradition surrounding these verses and then proceed with a condemnation of LGBTQ individuals. I challenge them to see what was actually traditionally taught. For most of history, most European Bibles taught the tradition that these 4 verses were dealing with pederasty, not homosexuality. I am saddened when I see pastors and theologians cast aside the previous 2000 years of history. This is why I collect very old Bibles, lexicons, theological books and commentaries most modern biblical commentaries adjusted to accommodate this mistranslation. Its time for the truth to come out!
Are Homosexual Relationships Mentioned In The Bible
In modern Western culture we associate touching, kissing and the word lovewith a sexual relationship. But that was not at all the case in Biblical era culture. Most Bible scholars say these relationships were no more than close friendships. That is especially clear in the case of Jesus and John the word translated as lovedwas the Greek word agape, which means kindness and respect rather than romantic or sexual love.
What Is The Opposite Of Gods Love For Us
Lies of the devil love to remind us, of EVERYTHING we have done wrong, in our past, and throw it in our faces, as often as he can every day!
Satan is a deceiver and a liar and will try his best to convince our minds and hearts that God would or could NEVER Love us.
God would or could NEVER Love a low-down Sinner, like you and I. Well, I am gonna put him Satan in his place right now, sweet friend!
Dont take Angies word for it. Take Gods word as the Truth it is!! Gods grace is more than enough, dont believe the lies!
For God So Loved The World
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
In one of the Bibles most well-known verses, Jesus lays out the gospel message clearly for a Pharisee named Nicodemus. Jesuss whole mission on earth served as a sign of Gods incredible love for humanity.
But its not Gods love that would have surprised Nicodemus. Its Gods love for the whole world that he would have struggled to wrap his mind around. Gods love wasnt centered on Israel. And because of this amazing love, anyoneJew, Greek, Roman, Samaritanwho believed in Christ would experience eternal life.

Is It Unhealthy Or Unloving To Ask Someone To Suppress Their Sexual Urges
First, we ask people to do that all the time. It is unhealthy not to suppress your sexual urges. If someone has a desire for incest or rape, we all agree that those urges should definitely not be acted on. Additionally, the Bible is not asking people to suppress their sexual urges . It is asking them to confess their urges. It is asking them to take desires they have and give them over to Jesus so they dont have to carry them anymore.
The Argument Doesnt Hold
The statement that abortion is not explicitly mentioned in the Bible is technically correct. However, this allegation falls prey to the logical fallacy of assuming that because an act is not mentioned in Scripture, the Bible therefore approves of that act. After all, Scripture does not specifically condemn many other evils, such as pyramid schemes, terrorism, carjacking and kidnapping. Does this mean that Christians should not oppose these evil acts either?
The Bible and abortion argument is a mere diversion, like all of the other pro-abortion slogans. Some people mock Christians who look to the Bible for moral direction, claiming that people should not need the Bible in order to know that certain acts, such as murder and stealing, are wrong. Of course they are half-right these sins are against the law of nature and natures God, so they are unjustified by any means. But we can also extend such reasoning to include abortion. Christians do not need the Bible to tell us that abortion is wrong, because science concludes without a shadow of a doubt that the preborn child is a human being and reasonable people can agree that it is wrong to kill innocent human beings.
Yes, it is true that the Bible does not mention abortion. So what?
Abortion has always been more of a scientific question than a religious one.

Greater Love Has No One Than This That Someone Lay Down His Life For His Friends
This verse speaks of so many things. This love talks about people who sacrificed their lives for their friends. It also reminds readers to love another person, just as they love themselves.
You could also interpret it as God dearly loves us so much so that he gave his only begotten Son to save us and that whoever believes in him may have an everlasting life.
You could interpret the Bible according to your own experience. The book offers many lessons that you can learn from. You could also learn from noble examples that would help you become a better person.
This verse glorifies the act of sacrificing for a stranger another person whom you may never benefit from.
Another possible meaning of laying down ones life is laying down your life for the love of Christ. You let God take the wheel of your life and let Him guide you to do good. Consequently, you have to follow the teachings and wisdom that you have learned from the Bible.
If It Doesnt Hurt Anyone Why Cant I Do It
First, it does hurt someone. Helping someone sin against God causes great spiritual harm and pushes them further away from salvation. Studies have also shown that it mentally and even physically does hurt someone. The rate of suicide among practicing homosexuals is higher than the national average .
But thats not the main issue. Whether or not something hurts someone is not what makes something sinful. Something is sinful if it goes against the Bible. A single man who has sex with a woman who is not his wife may not think hes hurting anyone, but it is still sin because the Bible forbids fornication.

Scriptures About Gods Love For Animals
Its true that God loves His animals that He created for humans. While we are more valuable than birds, animals, and sea creatures, He still cares for animals by providing daily food and water.
My family has always had animals in our home especially dogs. Most dogs seem to emulate unconditional love. Ive seen ignored, neglected, and abused dogs and they still have the ability to show you their love with a sign of a wagging tail. Dogs make me smile.
Matthew 6:2 Look at the birds of the air they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?
Luke 12:6-7 Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies? Yet not one of them is forgotten by God. Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Dont be afraid you are worth more than many sparrows.

V Conclusion: Loving In Truthmy Background
The Bible is realistic about human nature. It tells us that we all fall short of Gods standard of righteousness, and thus none are righteous before Him . All other religions of the world somehow offer the hope that by self-effort heaven may be achieved. The Bible does not do that. Instead the Bible gives us Gods humanly-impossible-to-attain standard.
But then God intervened. While it was impossible for me to overcome, it was not impossible for God. He used a combination of His Word that I was reading, and of messages that I heard on the radio to open my eyes to the rest of the truth.
My journal at this time goes from records of my continual failures each day, of my heart being so hard against God, of my struggling anguish, of the realities of my sinfulness, of knowing that I needed to repent yet could not in my cold-heartedness to all of a sudden ecstatically thanking God for His amazing love.
What happened? Over time I had realized my sinfulness in its awful self-destroying reality. I realized fully my incapability. I could not fix my life on my own. I could not earn Gods love, approval, or forgiveness. In my pride and self-sufficiency I needed to see the realities of my situation before I would or could humble myself enough to throw myself entirely on Gods grace. But as I did see those realities and surrendered myself to Him, He opened my eyes to also truly realize His love and grace.

What Is Storge Love In Scripture
Storge love is used to describe familial love. This word describes the type of deep and caring bond that develops naturally between parents and children, husbands and wives, siblings, as well as other people who you may consider to be family. This type of love can withstand many trials, is protective, and loyal.
While the word storge itself is not found in Scripture, its contrary form is: the word astorgous is used in the Greek translation of Scripture to mean without natural affection, as we can see in the King James Version . Paul warns that during the end-times, people will become so selfish that they will live without any sense of natural affection for their own family .
Storge love is depicted in the Bible by the concern shown by Jairus for his sick daughter , and by the grieving shown by Martha and Mary for their brother Lazarus . Biblical figures who displayed the absence of storge love include Cain when he lured and murdered his brother Abel , and Josephs jealous brothers who sold Joseph into slavery .
Should A Christian Oppose Gay Marriages And Partnerships
Finally, it must be emphasized that religions, and those who adhere to religious doctrines, may continue to advocate with utmost, sincere conviction that, by divine precepts, same-sex marriage should not be condoned. The First Amendment ensures that religious organizations and persons are given proper protection as they seek to teach the principles that are so fulfilling and so central to their lives and faiths, and to their own deep aspirations to continue the family structure they have long revered.10
