Numerous pieces of evidence reveal that evolutionary dating methods are not reliable.
The following examples demonstrate the folly of giving unqualified endorsement to the various clocks that are reputed to prove the earth is ancient.
- Studies on submarine basaltic rocks from Hawaii, known to have formed less than two hundred years ago, when dated by the potassium-argon method, yielded ages from 160 million to almost three billion years .
- The shells of living mollusks have been dated at up to 2,300 years old .
- Freshly-killed seals have been dated at up to 1,300 years, and mummified seals, dead only about thirty years, have yielded dates as high as 4,600 years . In our book, Creation, Evolution and the Age of the Earth, we documented one case where muscle tissue from a mummified musk ox was dated at 24,000 years, while hair from the same carcass dated only 7,200 years! .
Clearly, the evolutionary clocks are drastically in need of repair!
How Old Is The Earth According To The Holy Bible
Concerning the age of the Earth, the Bibles genealogical records combined with the Genesis 1 account of creation are used to estimate an age for the Earth and universe of about 6000 years, with a bit of uncertainty on the completeness of the genealogical records, allowing for a few thousand years more.

Different Versions Of The Chronology
For a long time, mankind has been concerned about the creation of the world. How did the earth appear, how old is it? In total, there are 3 main theories in the world: philosophical, biblical, and scientific. Which of these positions to choose and which to believe, everyone will have to decide for himself.
But science and philosophy are limited by logic and cannot go beyond mathematical thinking. This is just science fiction, nothing more. According to these two versions, the age of the Earth is 4.5 billion years, with which proponents of the biblical version fundamentally disagree.

The Bible Declares The Earth Is Old
Whatever the evidence may be, the Bible clearly states that the earth is old! Habakkuk 3:6 states:
He stood, and measured the earth: he beheld, and drove asunder the nations; and the everlasting mountains were scattered, the perpetual hills did bow: his ways are everlasting.
Should not have Habakkuk said that the mountains and hills were formed during Noahs flood? .

Why Biblical Genealogies Cant Be Used To Date The Age Of The Earth/universe
But a strange thing has happened ever since an Irish Bishop published some genealogical calculations around 400 years ago. He asserted that Genesis 1:1 could be dated: . Within years of this assertion being published it was incorporated into the margins of Bibles by Publishers and led to this date being accepted by Bible readers around the English-speaking-world almost without question. Bishop Ussher could never have foreseen that his chronological speculating would result in a U.S. Supreme Court trial in which trusting Christians would be humiliated!
If we add up all the genealogies in the Bible going all the way back to Adam, we end up with a date range of Adam being created around 4000-5000 BC, Bishop Ussher did. I never questioned this. But the Bibles genealogies were never intended to be used this way. This is partly evident because there are massive and deliberate gaps in the Biblical genealogies. This becomes evident when we compare come of the same genealogical records in two different Biblical passages. For example-
- Ezra 7:1-5;and;I Chron. 6:3-14;shows that six names are left out in;Ezra 7:3.
- In;Exodus 6:16-20, four generations are given from Levi to Moses, yet in;First Chronicles 7:23-27;lists 11 generations between Levis brother Joseph and Moses successor Joshua.

How Old Is Earth And How Did Scientists Figure It Out
If you look up the age of Earth on science websites and in publications, you’ll generally find an estimate of 4.54 billion years, plus or minus 50 million years. What you may be surprised to discover is the accepted estimate dates back to the 1950s and has remained pretty much the same since then, even though scientific knowledge has progressed so dramatically since then in other areas. So what’s up with that?
Efforts to figure out the age of Earth go back many centuries. The classical Greek philosopher Aristotle, who thought time had no beginning or end, also believed that Earth was infinitely old, while religious scholars in ancient India, who envisioned a universe that perpetually exploded, expanded and collapsed only to begin anew, calculated that Earth had existed for 1.97 billion years. During the medieval era, various Christian theologians scrutinized the Bible for clues, and came up with estimates of between 5,471 and 7,519 years, according to G. Brent Dalrymple’s book “The Age of the Earth.” From the 1700s and 1800s, an assortment of scientists came up with various figures based on clues ranging from Earth’s rate of cooling and the accumulation of sediment, to the chemical evolution of the oceans.
Patterson had an even bigger impact by publishing a 1965 article on the extent of toxic lead pollution on Earth, which helped to start a movement to get rid of dangers such as lead paint and leaded gasoline, according to this 2015 article from the CalTech website.

Contrary to the calculation of Archbishop Ussher, it seems that the biblical genealogies are telescoped, representing only a small percentage of the actual human generations. Therefore, the time that humanity has existed on earth is in the tens of thousands of years rather than thousands of years. However, humanity was the very last of God’s creations, on the sixth days. The days of creation can be shown to be longer than ordinary calendar days, with at least two of the days being years long or longer . So, although the Bible may give us an approximate date for the creation of human beings, we can only guess at how long the other creation “days” are. However, God has given us another “book” that testifies to His power and creative abilitynone other than the creation itself. The Bible explicitly tells us that God’s creation is a reliable witness for the truth about God’s power and righteousness. The Bible also says that one can see the truth about God from His creation, so that unbelievers are “without excuse” in denying God’s “eternal power and divine nature.”16So, the Bible says that we can learn about God from His creation. Mount St Helens entered a period of intense activity in 1980 that killed more than 50 people.
Although tragic, Young Earth Creationists believe the eruption has highlighted a flaw in attempts to date the planet’s age.
According to Professor Meyer, attempts to age the newly formed cap on the volcano using Potassium-argon dating have proven “far from accurate”.
The method and its supposed shortcomings were famously highlighted by Young Earth Creationist Dr Steve Austin and the Institute for Creation Research , when they analysed samples collected from the volcano in 1986.
This has even led to the Mount St Helens Creation Information Center being established “for the purpose of witnessing to the truth of God’s Word in Genesis”.
Professor Meyer said: “The severe faultiness of the dating method should cause everyone who adheres to the belief that the earth is 4,600,000,000 years old to reconsider that belief.
“According to the Creation Ex Nihilo Technical Journal , using the conventional K-Ar dating methods, the porphyritic dacite which solidified on the surface of the lava dome six years after the eruption dates to 50,000 to 350,000 years old.

History Of The Age Of The Earth
As indicated earlier, the Bible does not fix the age of the earth, contrary to the claims of Answers in Genesis.1 Historically, their claim comes from the work of James Ussher, Bishop in the Church of Ireland, from 1625 to 1656. Archbishop Ussher took the genealogies of Genesis, assuming they were complete, and calculated all the years to arrive at a date for the creation of the earth on Sunday, October 23, 4004 B.C.2 Of course, even assuming the method was valid, such an exact date is not possible from the genealogies of the Bible . There are a number of other assumptions implicit in the calculation. The first, and foremost, assumption is that the genealogies of Genesis are complete, from father to son throughout the entire course of human existence. The second assumption is that the Genesis creation “days” were exactly 24-hours in length. It turns out that both assumptions are false.

Also of great significance was the formation of creation-oriented organizations. The landscape has been littered with essentially one-man young-Earth creationist operations, such as;Kent Hovinds;Creation Science Evangelism,;Walt Browns;Center for Scientific Creation;and;Carl Baughs;Creation Evidence Museum. ICR was founded in 1970 by;Henry Morris;as the research arm of Christian Heritage College , but since 1981 it has been an autonomous graduate school devoted to the discovery of scientific support for a young Earth, a global Flood and other catastrophic interpretations of geology, and nonevolutionary explanations of the origins of organisms. ICR has regularly published a series, titled;Acts & Facts, devoted to challenging standard geology and espousing young-Earth claims.
The Creation Research Society , founded in 1963, originally had a strong;Missouri Synod Lutheran;influence.;Ronald Numbers;has pointed out that one-third of the original charter membership came from the denomination, including biologists;Walter Lammerts,;Wilbert Rusch,;John Klotz;and Paul Zimmerman . Since 1964, the Creation Research Society has published a;journal;devoted to the espousal of catastrophism,;Flood geology;and a young Earth.

Is The Bible Silent On The Age Of The Earth
If it is true that the Bible is completely silent on this topic, then certainly we ought not to make an issue of it.
But, is the Bible silent regarding the age of the earth and the human race?
We pose these questions for reflection:
- Do the Scriptures contain chronological data that allow careful students to arrive at a relatively reliable estimate as to the antiquity of the human race?
- Does the Bible teach that the earth and mankind were created in the same week?
If these questions can be answered affirmatively and we are confident they can then the testimony of inspiration must be respected.
Or should the declarations of the Scriptures simply be dismissed because some are intimidated by the assertions of skeptical scientists who are committed to the theory of evolution?
Make no mistake about it. The lust for vast periods of time is critical in the Darwinian scenario of origins.
