What Does Prophetic Mean In The Bible

What Is The Prophetic Meaning Of Number 9

What is a prophet? The Meaning of Prophet, Clearly Explained.

The prophetic meaning of the number nine has a lot to do with the context surrounding how the number enters your life. When it comes up our first thought is finality, or is something finished? This would align with the biblical prophetic meaning, and if you are exiting a season or if you have been praying for something to be over this makes a lot of sense.

However, it can also bear the other meanings as listed above, and based on what is happening in your life or how the number was presented to you could give it other meanings. However truth is known to split things, divide the bone and the marrow, and judgement also not only means a finality but also justice and truth. Something is revealed or completed.

Great Blessings Follow Obedience To The Prophet

If we obey, the Lord promises, âThe gates of hell shall not prevail against you yea, and the Lord God will disperse the powers of darkness from before you, and cause the heavens to shake for your good, and his nameâs gloryâ . When we do as our prophet directs, blessings pour down from heaven.

In order to stand, the true Church must be âbuilt upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stoneâ . We are blessed in this insecure world to have a prophet through whom the Lord reveals His will.

  • What experiences have you had when you have obeyed the counsel of the prophet?

For teachers: Sharing experiences and bearing testimony invite the Spirit. As you conclude this lesson, consider sharing an experience you have had when you have followed the counsel of the President of the Church. Share your testimony of the living prophet.

First Illustration Of Prophecy

Next, we will look at two illustrations of this word. The first illustration is from 2 Chronicles 15:8, which states,

Now when Asa heard these words and the prophecy which Azariah the son of Oded the prophet spoke . . . 2 Chronicles 15:8

This verse tells us that Azariah, the son of Oded, had spoken a prophecy. When we look at the seven verses that come just before 2 Chronicles 15:8, we learn that God had given Azariah a message. This helps us to understand that a prophecy can be just a simple message from God and not contain any predictions.

Prophets In The New Testament

The tradition of prophecy continued in the New Testament. John the Baptist proclaimed the coming of Jesus and pronounced the start of His ministry.

Then what did you go out to see? A prophet? Yes, I tell you, and more than a prophet .

The Apostle John received and recorded visions from God about heaven and end-time events.

Blessed is the one who reads aloud the words of this prophecy, and blessed are those who hear it and take to heart what is written in it, because the time is near .

Anna recognized and worshipped the Messiah when she saw Him in the temple.

There was also a prophet, Anna, the daughter of Penuel, of the tribe of Asher…Coming up to them at that very moment, she gave thanks to God and spoke about the child .

Agabus predicted an upcoming famine in the Roman world, and later foretold Pauls arrest.

After we had been there a number of days, a prophet named Agabus came down from Judea .

Note that Jesus did speak prophetically during His earthly ministry, not just as a human man hearing from God, but as the Son of God. Prophecy was just one way He blessed the people, along with healings, teachings, and miraculous signs.

Elijah First Name Meaning Art Print

The word Apostolic does not only speak of the office of the apostles, but it speaks of the ministry of signs, wonders and miracles. The Power gifts and the signs and wonders of the Holy Spirit reveal this ministry .

The word Prophetic does not refer only to the office of the prophets, but is refers to God`s way of communicating to people . Gods way of communicating with people includes: the bible, which is the written word , the spoken word and the spoken word may come as a revelation, prompting, thoughts or audible voice like that of a person, dreams and visions, prophecy, tongues and their interpretation, revelation and vocal gifts etc. God also speaks through the office of a prophet, prophetic presbytery or prophetic people or a prophetic sermon etc

All who are called to the five fold ministry and those who are not called to it have to be apostolic, that means they have to walk with the manifestations of Gods power and signs and wonders of the Holy Spirit .

When believers have been trained in the apostolic and prophetic ministry, it is then that they can walk as The Manifest Sons of God fully .

What Did Prophets In The Bible Do

There is no one job description that covers all the prophets. But their ministries included one or more duties such as teaching, writing and preaching – to a local crowd, or a larger audience.

Many times God directed prophets to act out their messages as visual reminders. Isaiah walked barefoot and stripped down for three years to signify Jerusalem’s coming captivity. Jeremiah made and wore a yoke of wood to represent the way the Babylonian King would oppress the Israelites.

The work of prophets often brought difficulties and dangers such as verbal abuse, beatings and imprisonment, if not worse. But each remained devoted to the Lords cause and received His strength to persevere.

Some Prophets Performed Miracles

Sometimes, to really pack a punch with the message God delivered through His prophets, there were miracles involved. These usually happened with more extreme situations, when it was dangerous for the prophets to proclaim these prophecies.

Several well-known miracles were performed by God through Elijah, most notably during the showdown between an animal sacrificed to God, and an animal sacrificed to the idol, Baal. To demonstrate Gods power, Elijah called for God to send fire down from heaven, signifying acceptance of the animal sacrifice. That fire ended up burning up the entire altar along with the slaughtered bull . God also had Elijah raise a widows son from the dead!

Elisha, the protégé of the prophet Elijah, also had miracles to note in his prophetic career, from making an axe head float in water to curing someone of leprosy .

A True Prophet Will Speak The Words Which Jehovah Puts Into His Mouth

Gods message is often rejected by sinful men because God demands obedience to His Word, but a true prophet will not try to make his message popular. A false prophet however appeals to popular enthusiasm. Notice the example in Isaiah 30:8-11 where the people ask the false prophets to prophesy nice thingsNow go, write it down on a tablet in their presence, inscribe it on a scroll, so that it might be saved for a future time as an enduring witness. For these are rebellious peoplethey are lying children, children unwilling to obey the Lords law. They say to the visionaries, See no more visions! and to the seers, Dont relate messages to us about what is right! Tell us nice things, relate deceptive messages. Turn aside from the way, stray off the path. Remove from our presence the sovereign king of Israel. Jeremiah shows us that a true prophet does not invent his messagehe is inspired by GodThen the Lord reached out his hand and touched my mouth and said to me, I will most assuredly give you the words you are to speak for me..

How Did Prophets Receive Information From God

Prophetic Shorts – What Does “Sorceries” Mean In Bible Prophecy?

God used several methods to transmit his thoughts to his prophets:

  • Writing. God used this method in at least one case by directly supplying to Moses the Ten Commandments in written form.Exodus 31:18.

  • Oral communication through angels. For example, God used an angel to instruct Moses about the message he was to deliver to Pharaoh of Egypt. When precise wording was crucial, God directed angels to dictate his message, as he did when he told Moses: Write down these words, because in accordance with these words, I am making a covenant with you and with Israel.Exodus 34:27. *

  • Visions. These were sometimes given while the prophet was awake and fully conscious. Some were so vivid that the recipient participated in them. At other times, visions were conveyed while the recipient was in a trance. God also transmitted his message by dreams while the prophet slept.Daniel 7:1 Acts 16:9, 10.

  • Mental guidance. God guided the thoughts of his prophets to convey his message. This is the sense of the Bibles statement: All Scripture is inspired of God. The phrase inspired of God can also be rendered God-breathed. God used his holy spirit, or active force, to breathe his ideas into the minds of his servants. The message was Gods, but the prophet selected the wording.2 Samuel 23:1, 2.

What Is A Prophet

In chapter one we made frequent references to the holy prophets. This raised a very important question What do we mean when we speak of prophets, and who are prophets? We must find what the Bible says about this subject.

Now the Lord said to Abram, Go out from your country, your relatives, and your fathers household to the land that I will show you. Then I will make you into a great nation, and I will bless you, and I will make your name great, so that you will exemplify divine blessing. I will bless those who bless you, but the one who treats you lightly I must curse, and all the families of the earth will bless one another by your name. So Abram left, just as the Lord had told him to do, and Lot went with him. .

Then the Lord came and stood nearby, calling as he had previously done, Samuel! Samuel! Samuel replied, Speak, for your servant is listening! The Lord said to Samuel, Look! I am about to do something in Israel when anyone hears about it, both of his ears will tingle. .

God in His wisdom chose men who would obey Him faithfully and He gave them authority to speak on His behalf. Prophets were not chosen or elected by men, and they were not permitted to inherit the title or regard it as an official post to be filled by a man specially trained for it.

Notice also that God told them what to do. We may find example of the work of a true prophet in a number of references as follows. Their work was:

1. To reveal the nature and attributes of God to men.

Prophetic Claims In Religious Traditions

In modern times the term “prophet” can be somewhat controversial. Many Christians with Pentecostal or charismatic beliefs believe in the continuation of the gift of prophecy and the continuation of the role of prophet as taught in Ephesians 4. The content of prophecies can vary widely. Prophecies are often spoken as quotes from God. They may contain quotes from scripture, statements about the past or current situation, or predictions of the future. Prophecies can also ‘make manifest the secrets’ of the hearts of other people, telling about the details of their lives. Sometimes, more than one person in a congregation will receive the same message in prophecy, with one giving it before another.

Other movements claim to have prophets. In France, Michel Potay says he received a revelation, called The Revelation of Arès, dictated by Jesus in 1974, then by God in 1977. He is considered a prophet by his followers, the Pilgrims of Arès.

We Have A Living Prophet On The Earth Today

  • Why do we need a living prophet today?

We have a prophet living on the earth today. This prophet is the President of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He has the right to revelation for the entire Church. He holds âthe keys of the kingdom,â meaning that he has the authority to direct the entire Church and kingdom of God on earth, including the administration of priesthood ordinances . No person except the chosen prophet and President can receive Godâs will for the entire membership of the Church. The Lord said, âThere is never but one on the earth at a time on whom this power and the keys of this priesthood are conferredâ . The President of the Church is assisted by his counselors in the First Presidency and the members of the Quorum of the Twelve, who are also prophets, seers, and revelators.

We should do those things the prophets tell us to do. President Wilford Woodruff said that a prophet will never be allowed to lead the Church astray:

âThe Lord will never permit me or any other man who stands as President of this Church to lead you astray. It is not in the programme. It is not in the mind of God. If I were to attempt that, the Lord would remove me out of my placeâ .

Schools For Biblical Education

But while the prophetic gift was thus exercised from the beginning, the prophetical order as such began with Samuelcolleges, schools of the prophetswere instituted for the training of prophets, who were constituted, a distinct order , which continued to the close of the Old Testament. Such schools were established at Ramah, Bethel, Gilgal, Gibeah, and Jericho.

The sons or disciples of the prophets were young men who lived together at these different schools . These young men were taught not only the rudiments of secular knowledge, but they were brought up to exercise the office of prophet, to preach pure morality and the heart-felt worship of Jehovah, and to act along and co-ordinately with the priesthood and monarchy in guiding the state aright and checking all attempts at illegality and tyranny.

Were There Any Women Prophets

Throughout the Bible, God called women as well as men to declare Gods messages. This holy work was given to a few in the Old Testament:

  • Isaiahs wife/prophetess
  • Along with Anna, others continued the line of women who prophesied into New Testament times. For example, Philip the evangelist had four unmarried daughters who prophesied .

Prophetic Shorts – What Does “Walk” Mean In Bible Prophecy?

Like many other numbers, number 4 is mentioned in the Bible a lot of times. Its biblical meaning is very important, so it could be interesting for you to know what this number represents in the Bible and in which parts of the Bible this number is mentioned.

The first thing that we will say when it comes to number 4 as a Christian symbol is that this number is associated with the cross and also with the crucifixion of Jesus. It is also important to say that there are 4 letters in the name of God .

Number 4 has something to do with the Creation, because the 4th day of the Creation represents the completion of the material universe. On the 4th day of the Creation God created the sun, as well as the moon and the stars.

Also, there are 4 elements in the universe and those are the earth, the air, the fire and the water. There are also 4 directions on the Earth North, South, West and East. We should also take into consideration that there are 4 seasons during the year winter, spring, summer and autumn. It is believed that God created all this on the 4th day of the Creation.

When it comes to number 4 and its place in the Bible, we have to say that the woman who was mentioned more of all other women in the Bible was Eve and she was referenced only 4 times. We have also to mention that the apostle Paul was familiar with 4 cultures of that time.

The 1st of them was like a lion, while the 2nd one was like an eagle.
