Song Of Solomon : 5 Thy Two Breasts Are Like Two Fawns Twins Of A Gazelle Which Feed Among The Lilies

How To Stop Worrying Now | Popular Bible Verses Explained 2020 | Philippians 4: 6-7 Explained

The suggestion that the roes feed among the lilies is a most beautiful one. The roes are enriched in life and health by what they feed upon and this shows in their beauty and grace, as well as in the fleetness of foot.

The roe or gazelle is the smallest animal of the antelope kind it is only about two feet in height, and not more than half the size of the fallowdeer. Its eyes are remarkably soft and expressive. It is noted for its swiftness in 1 Chronicles 12:8, speaking of men who were as swift as the roes upon the mountains. In 2 Samuel 2:18, Asahel was as light of foot as a wild roe. In the Song of Solomon 2:9, The voice of my beloved! behold he cometh leaping upon the mountains, skipping upon the hills: my beloved is like a roe or a young hart.

Whatever goodness and cheer can flow out of the fully consecrated child of God into the lives of others, is but the outgrowth, the result, of what one in Christ feeds uponamong the lilies, among the consecrated saints of God, in their gatherings, when and wherever these fellowship in the Lord. And, of course, this is what shows, for not only are her breasts beautiful and graceful, but they are full of wholesome nourishment for others. We cannot help but here think of an expression used by the Apostle Paul when writing to the beloved at Thessalonica:

I was like a mother that lovingly nurses her children .

People quote the Bible in a variety of contexts. If you want to be able to look those quotes up, youll need to understand the way the Bible is organized. Its also possible to look up quotes without knowing their location. Simply knowing a couple of words from a verse can be enough to help you locate it if you know how.

My Grace Is Sufficient For You

âBut he said to me, âMy grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.â Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christâs power may rest on me. That is why, for Christâs sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.â

Throughout Scripture, God displays a pattern of demonstrating his strength when situations look most hopeless. When Gideon brought an army to fight the Midianites in Judges 7, God told him that there were too many men, so if they won the battle, no one would attribute that victory to the Lordâtheyâd give themselves all the credit. Through a series of steps, God brought their army of 32,000 down to 300. They won the battle handily, and God received all the glory.

Christâs power can shine the most during our weakest moments, when weâre least able to depend on ourselves. Every moment of weakness is an opportunity for Jesus to reveal his power.

Memorize To Master The Bible

I used to think that it was better to have a lot of verses memorized, but in my effort to have as many verses as possible memorized, I had them memorized shallowly. I might have to struggle to get started, or get partway through a passage and have to paraphrase the rest. Now, I realize it is much better to have fewer verses memorized very deeplythat is where the power comes from. Rather than memorize a mile wide and an inch deep, it is better to memorize an inch wide and a mile deep. That is a key difference, because until we memorize verses deeply and spend time meditating on them, the truth of the passages does not seep deeply into our subconscious to influence our thoughts, attitudes, actions, and emotions.

When we memorize Scripture this deeply, it will often then jump into our minds as our first reaction to lifes circumstances, helping guide our decisions and influence our emotions. Even Jesus, when He was tempted by the devil in Matthew 4, quoted Scripture in response to the temptation. When we know Scripture well enough to quote it immediately in response to lifes challenges, the Bible begins to take on a power that it did not previously have in our life.

Memorize one verse so that you can say it without hesitation. Then, memorize another, but link it to the first. Then memorize a third one, but link it to the first two, and so on. Keep doing it the rest of your life. Pretty soon, your command of Scripture will be a mile wide and a mile deep.

The Lord God Formed Man Of The Dust Of The Ground And Breathed Into His Nostrils The Breath Of Life And Man Became A Living Soul

WHAT IS YOUR LIFE VERSE?

Here the word nephesh, or soul, is defined as a living being, a body combined with the breathe of life. Thus we learn, that man does not possess a soul, but that he IS a soul, which means simply that man, when alive, is a living being. Adam subsequently died, and he with all the others silently awaits the resurrection.

Animals as Souls

The breath of life which animates the human organism is no different than the breath of life given to the lower animals. In reference to the beasts and every creeping thing which perished in the Flood, we read, All in whose nostrils was the breath of life, of all that was in the dry land, died. Ecclesiastes 3:19-21 informs us that both man and beast have all one breath, so that a man hath no pre-eminence above a beast.

As Strongs Concordance notes, animals are also souls living beings. However, in the common English version this is hidden by the translation, which confuses the subject to many readers. When the word nephesh, soul, refers to an animal, the translators rendered it with some other word, such as creature or beast.

For example, Genesis 1:20 sayslet the waters bring forth abundantly the moving creature

Verse 21, God created great whales, and every living creature that moveth

Verse 24, And God said, Let the earth bring forth the living creatureafter his kind, cattle, and creeping things, and beast of the earth after his kind: and it was so.

Don’t Miss: What Does The Bible Say About Discipleship

Take Heart I Have Overcome The World

âI have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.â

Before Jesus was betrayed and taken to be crucified, he told his disciples what would happen in the days to come, when he would no longer be with them. He told them about the horrible things that may happen to them, but also the incredible gift that was coming to those who believed in him: the Holy Spirit, who would dwell within them. Most of all, he encouraged his disciples to continue trusting him and to remain in him .

In Jesus we can enjoy the gift of peace, knowing that whatever comes our way, weâre with someone who has overcome the worldâand defeated death!

Tips For Understanding Any Passage Of The Bible

Brandon D. Smith, Editor, Bibles & Reference Spokesperson, Christian Standard Bible

If you open up a dictionary or encyclopedia to any random page, youll have no trouble understanding the entry you stumble across. These books are designed to give you snapshots of information, and not much more. We all know, however, that the Bible doesnt quite work that way.

Weve all opened our Bibles to a particular passage or book and felt immediately lost. Questions immediately abound. What does the author mean by this? How did we get from marriage to slaves in just a few verses? How does this apply to me? What does Lamentations have to do with Philippians? These types of questions puzzle even the seasoned pastor or veteran seminary student. There are two primary reasons why the Bible can be puzzling:

First, the Bible is a collection of types of bookshistory, poetry, biography, letters, apocalyptic imagery, etc. We dont read the Bible like we read a history book about World War II or a biography on Martin Luther King, Jr. The Bible contains all kinds of books. It is a library of writings developed and collected over thousands of years. Though it has one coherent message, we cant read Lamentations and Philippians the same way, because they werent written for the same purpose, during the same time, or by the same type of author. And they were all written 2,000+ years ago, in different times and places than our own.

Trust me, its possible!

When was the last time you memorized a verse in the Bible? Here are a couple chapters to consider for your challenge: Hebrews 1, Luke 6, and 1 Corinthians 13.

Research Historical Context Surrounding The Bible Passage And The Original Audience

Consider Romans, a doctrinally rich book that reveals Gods holiness, mans depravity apart from Him, and the redemption we have in Christ. Through Pauls writings to the ancient Romans, we receive a clear presentation of the gospel. Considering this, one might assume Paul wrote to evangelize a group of nonbelievers.

But Paul was writing to fellow Christians. These Roman believers didnt need to learn how to receive Christ they needed to understand how to rest in Him. The Jewish believers who were holding tight to circumcision needed to realize the Old Testament law hadnt and couldnt save them. They came to Christ the same way their Gentile brothers and sisters didthrough faith. And the Gentile believers, who were being pressured into following the law, needed reassurance and the reminder that their salvation wasnt dependent upon anything they had or hadnt done but instead on what Christ had done for them.

Understanding the historical context adds depth and beauty to this ancient letter, reminding us of the saving, transforming, and preserving power of grace.

Misconceptions About Genesis : 1

Misconception: God created the material universe a few thousand years ago.

Fact: The Bible does not indicate when the universe was created. The statement at Genesis 1:1 does not conflict with modern estimates that the universe is billions of years old. *

Misconception: Genesis 1:1 indicates that God is a Trinity because the Hebrew word for God used in this verse is plural.

Fact: The title God translates the Hebrew word Elo·him, which is plural, to denote majesty or excellence, not a number of people. The New Catholic Encyclopedia acknowledges that the plural Elo·him as used at Genesis 1:1 always takes a singular verb, indicating that, like the royal we, the plural of excellence, not number, is meant.Second Edition, Volume 6, page 272.

^ par. 5 Regarding this word, the HCSB Study Bible states: In its active form the Hebrew verb bara, meaning to create, never has a human subject. Thus bara signifies a work that is uniquely Gods. Page 7.

The Standard Of Standards

The above lines of evidence are certainly consistent with the premise that the Bible is true. Many people have no doubt found such evidence quite convincing. Yet, we must admit that none of the above lines of evidence quite proves that the Bible must be the inerrant Word of God. Critics have their counterarguments to all of the above. If we are to know for certain that the Bible is true, we will need a different kind of argumentone that is absolutely conclusive and irrefutable. In all the above cases, we took as an unstated premise that there are certain standards by which we judge how likely something is true. When we stop to consider what these standards are, we will see that the standards themselves are proof that the Bible is true.

Putting it another way, only the Bible can make sense of the standards by which we evaluate whether or not something is true. One such set of standards are the laws of logic. We all know that a true claim cannot contradict another true claim. That would violate a law of logic: the law of non-contradiction. The statements The light is red and The light is not red cannot both be true at the same time and in the same sense. Laws of logic thus represent a standard by which we can judge certain truth claims. Moreover, all people seem to know laws like the law of non-contradiction. We all assume that such laws are the same everywhere and apply at all times without exception. But why is this? How do we know such things?

For I Know The Plans I Have For You

Bible Verse For Strength And Healing

ââFor I know the plans I have for you,â declares the Lord, âplans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.ââ

This is one of the most popular verses in all of Scripture, and youâll find it on countless pieces of Christian merchandise because of its encouraging message. But before we cling to these words, itâs important to reflect on where they come from. When Jeremiah shared these words with the Israelites, they were facing one of the bleakest periods in ancient Jewish history: the Babylonian exile. King Nebuchadnezzar destroyed Godâs temple and took many of the Jews as captives, forcing them to live among the Babylonians and embrace Babylonian culture. This period lasted 70 years, and most of the people who heard these words likely didnât live to experience the fulfillment of Godâs promise.

This is not a promise that soon your troubles will be over and God will make you successful and happy. Itâs a promise that God is not the origin of our pain and that, in the end, Godâs plan will work out for good .

Know The Original Audience

Knowing the original audience of each book is enormously helpful for Bible study. It causes so many puzzle pieces to fall into place.

Take Galatians, for example. It was primarily to Gentiles who had been converted under Pauls ministry. These Gentiles were being harassed by Jews who said they needed to follow Jewish customs in order to be true Christians.

Knowing this simple fact sheds light on why Paul was so fired up about the seemingly weird subject of circumcision .

If you want to understand the Bible, understand the original audience.

Song Of Solomon : 2 As The Lily Among Thorns So Is My Love Among The Daughters

As mentioned earlier, in verse 1 the virgin class has said I am the lily of the valleys. Now, in verse 2, Christ Jesus is, as if, responding, Yes, you are as the lily, but you are amidst thorns.

He proceeds once again to tell her of what and how he thinks of herAs the lily among thorns she is seen in harmlessness, simplicity, and irreproachableness in the midst of a crooked and perverted generation She isin moral contrast with all her surroundings He adds no more His words, though few, give her heart to know that He is content with her she is what He can delight in no more is needed.

The Lord would have her follow in His footsteps as she beholds Him in His beauty, in His fragrance, and His humility, she hears Him say: As I am, so are ye in the world. He that saith He abideth in Me ought himself also to walk even as I walked. To be like unto him, she must go down into the fertile Valleys, and there must she abide. She must draw strength and nourishment from the hidden springs and the rich soil of His Word, and His life must flow into her until she blossoms out in His likeness .

The beautiful lily has no thorns growing upon her. In her words, there is nothing which is sharp, to wound her Lord or those around her. There are no unkind actions growing upon this plant that is being prepared for the Garden of Heaven. There are no unworthy, uplifted attributes found upon the one whom God will choose as the bride of His Son. She must be:
