Scriptures On How To Pray

“How to Pray” The Jesus Storybook Bible

Matthew 6:6 ESV – But when you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you.

James 5:16 ESV – Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working.

Romans 8:26 ESV – Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words.

Philippians 4:6 ESV – Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.

Matthew 6:7 ESV – And when you pray, do not heap up empty phrases as the Gentiles do, for they think that they will be heard for their many words.

Ephesians 6:18 ESV – Praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication. To that end keep alert with all perseverance, making supplication for all the saints

ESV – Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.

Praise To God After Reading

We are invited to read the Bible, but we are also invited to respond to the Bible. After we read the Bible, what would we do? Surely we will begin to live for God and reflect more of Christs character. But we will also automatically worship God.

It is a natural response to see Gods amazing character and worship. We see His faithfulness, love, and salvation only to turn around and worship. Prayer can simply be worship. We dont have to ask requests or seek guidance with every single prayer we pray. We can pray simple to praise!

Come, let us bow down in worship, let us kneel before the Lord our Maker. Psalm 95:6

Dear God of the Universe, our Maker and Sustainer. We give you thanks for everything that You are. We sing praise you, as the psalmist does in Psalm 150: Praise the Lord. Praise God in his sanctuary praise him in his mighty heavens. Praise him for his acts of power praise him for his surpassing greatness. You are truly great and we praise you! Amen.

How The Bible Impacts Practicing Christians

For this study, American Bible Society surveyed both those who practice faith and those not actively practicing their faith but self-identify with a religious faith. Practicing Christians incorporate their faith into their lives and routines in a transformative way, which includes consistent interaction with the Bible. Consequently, theyre finding wisdom, experiencing comfort, and feeling a sense of connection to God. Heres what they had to say about the Bible.

  • It brings them close to God. Eighty-five percent of Practicing Christians say they sense a connection to God at least most of the time when reading the Bible.
  • It brings about positive emotions. Practicing Christians agree that the Bible is a great source of comfort when they are struggling and a great source of wisdom for decisions they make in life .
  • It helps them forgive. When respondents were asked to agree or disagree with the question, I am able to sincerely forgive whatever someone else has done to me, regardless of whether they ever ask for forgiveness or not, 91 percent of Practicing Christians agree.
  • It influences positive actions. Practicing Christians in historically Black Protestant churches are the most likely to say the Bible leads them to welcome immigrants into their community . Their evangelical and mainline Protestant peers feel compelled to prioritize befriending people of other races . Practicing Catholics emphasize care for the environment .

First, Jesus instructs us to approach God as Father. God is our Heavenly Father. For many, envisioning God as Father is not a very flattering thought. Often great pain is brought about because of the absence or because of presence of a hurtful father. However, all that is lacking in our earthly fathers is found in our Heavenly Father. He loves and cares for us more than we’ll ever know. He desires to give good things to us, even His presence through Holy Spirit . The word father is probably too stuffy a term to define Him. Daddy would be more appropriate. He cherishes us over all His creation. He is our Dad and He cares for our every need and circumstance.

A Prayer Against Disease

Op

Lord, Your scripture says that you heal all diseases and whoever believes in You will not perish but have everlasting life. Strengthen me, Lord, in this time of illness. Sustain him as he lays sick in his bed. When You were on Earth, you did all things good and healed all kinds of sickness.

You healed those who had diseases. You died and rose for our sins and that we may have eternal life, Lord. I believe in my heart that You are here with us today and that with Your most holy power will remove all sicknesses and evils that roam the earth. Let it be done in Your glory, Lord.

We praise and glorify Your name, Amen.

Using Scripture When You Don’t Know What To Pray

Prayer is foundational to the work of Bible translation. Weve seen lives changed, hearts transformed and entire communities impacted as a result of people praying specifically that God would make himself known among the nations! Prayer is powerful, and it is one way God has invited us to join him in his work.

But how can we pray when we dont know what to pray, or rather, what new things to pray for? Our prayer life can feel monotonous if were praying the same things over and over again. And thats often the case when praying for a people group waiting for the Bible in their own language. Updates can be infrequent and we dont know what new things to ask God for.

Make Prayer An Essential Part Of Your Day

You should have a precise rule to pray both morning and evening. Stick to a schedule for praying. You are forming a discipline that is beyond what you will feel like doing. This is not a leisure practice but a path to be in fellowship with your God. You will need to have a distinct set of guidelines that you follow each time with no reasons for shortcutting them.

Praying Scripture For Others

Finally, I want to share how you can pray scripture for others in your life and community. As believers, we are all called to intercede, or pray for others. Sometimes intercession can feel daunting because we dont know where to begin.

Start off by asking your friends and family what they need prayer for. Look for key words in their requests. Are they struggling with sin? Are they dealing with financial challenges? Do they have health issues? Find scripture that addresses what they need and begin to pray it over them.

If you dont know what someone needs, allow the Holy Spirit to lead you as you pray for them. If you read something in scripture that applies to your friend or family member, pray it over them. Find scripture about Gods peace and protection and pray it over them. Find scripture about growing in faith and staying close to God. Pray those over them. The beautiful thing about praying scripture is that you may not know what your family member or friend needs but God knows and he has made provision in his word. Praying the word over them will always be helpful.

Pauls Prayer For The Ephesians

How to Pray Through The Bible | My Prayer Bible | Flip Through

For this reason I bow my knees before the Father, that according to the riches of His glory He may grant you to be strengthened with power through His Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faiththat you, being rooted and grounded in love, may have strength to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God. Now to Him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to His power that is at work within us, to Him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.

Paul said this prayer about the Ephesians when he was trying to show them the power and strength of Gods love. We can pray that others find hope in God, too. One way we can help others around us is by praying for them, and this is a great prayer for when we are unsure of the situation that someone is in. While we dont always know details, we can pray for them by asking God to wrap His arms around them and show them grace.

Why Do We Struggle With How To Prayer

Maybe we over-spiritualize it. We think we have to pray long and eloquent for it to really work. We measure ourselves with spiritual giants like Billy Graham or Mother Teresa, and we feel unqualified and unworthy. Sometimes we separate prayer from the rest of life we look at it as something we do at prayer meetings or in our quiet time.

When I read Pauls words in Colossians 4:2, Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful, I wonder how do I devote myself to prayer when I have a regular life with a job and kids? I forget that Paul was surely talking about a heart attitude, not a never-ending prayer meeting or devotional time. Devoted prayer is a heart tendency to turn to God at each turn in our day.

On my journey from prayer wimp to warrior, Im discovering a few practical tips for how to pray:

Jesus Prayer Of Thanks

Father, I thank You that You have heard me. I knew that You always hear me, but I say this for the benefit of the people standing here, that they may believe that You sent me.

Jesus prayed to His Father regularly in the Bible. Here, Jesus was thanking God for answering His prayers, and did so aloud so that others could believe it was so. We can learn here that God is always listening to us and will answer our prayers. We can share the Good News with those around us so that they can also believe that God is hearing them. God is not going to be silent and instead will respond to us. When He does, we should thank Him for being loving and listening to our cries.

Renew My Mind Body And Soul

Lord, I come before you today in need of your healing hand. In you all things are possible. Hold my heart within yours, and renew my mind, body, and soul.

I am lost, but I come to you with grace. You gave us life, and you also give us the gift of infinite joy. Give me the strength to move forward on the path youve laid out for me.

Guide me towards better health, and give me the wisdom to identify those youve placed around me to help me get better. In your name, I pray, Amen.

Hannahs Prayer Of Praise

15 Things to Pray Before Reading Your Bible

When Hannah received the child she begged God for, her first instinct is to praise the One who provided. She wants to thank Him for His greatness and His deliverance. Too often we pray before receiving, but then forget to pray after God answers. Let this prayer guide you in thanks:

My heart exults in the Lord my horn is exalted in the Lord. My mouth derides my enemies, because I rejoice in your salvation. There is none holy like the Lord: for there is none besides you there is no rock like our God. Talk no more so very proudly, let not arrogance come from your mouth for the Lord is a God of knowledge, and by him actions are weighed. The bows of the mighty are broken, but the feeble bind on strength. Those who were full have hired themselves out for bread, but those who were hungry have ceased to hunger. The barren has borne seven, but she who has many children is forlorn. The Lord kills and brings to life he brings down to Sheol and raises up. The Lord makes poor and makes rich he brings low and he exalts. He raises up the poor from the dust he lifts the needy from the ash heap to make them sit with princes and inherit a seat of honor. For the pillars of the earth are the Lord’s, and on them he has set the world.

Select A Bible Passage

Choose a text of the Scriptures that you wish to pray. Many Christians use one of the readings from the liturgy for the day others prefer to slowly work through a particular book of the Bible. It makes no difference which text is chosen, as long as you have no set goal of “covering” a certain amount of text. The amount of text covered is in God’s hands, not yours.

A Prayer For Personal Healing

I’m coming to you today as your child, longing to hear from you and asking for your divine healing. There’s so much I don’t understand about life. But I do know that with one touch, one word, you can make me whole. Please forgive me of my sins, cleanse me of my unrighteousness, and begin your healing from the inside out.

I don’t always know what your will is Lord, especially in times like now, when I desperately seek your face. I offer you no promises, no bargains, no deals to exchange for my health. I simply bow my heart before you to tell you the desire of my heart: that I want to spend as many years as I can loving you here, loving others, and wanting to become more like you. However you choose to accomplish that is up to youand okay with me. If you use doctors to provide healing, give them wisdom to know what to do. Regardless of how you accomplish it, the healing you give is always miraculous. And you deserve all the praise.

I absolutely believe you have the power to heal. You demonstrated that on earth, and you still heal in miraculous ways today. Even when my faith is weak, you say it is enough, and my love for you is strong. And I know you already hold my heart and life in your hands. It’s up to you. If I can bring you more glory through healing, then that’s what I ask for. That’s what I desire. And no matter what, I choose to honor you and give you glory. In Jesus’s name, Amen. ~ Rebecca Barlow Jordan

Should I Use Eloquent Words

Your prayers need not be wordy or impressive in speech:

“When you pray, don’t babble on and on as people of other religions do. They think their prayers are answered only by repeating their words again and again.”

Do not be quick with your mouth, do not be hasty in your heart to utter anything before God. God is in heaven and you are on earth, so let your words be few.

A Prayer For Healing Sick Family And Friends

Praying the Bible with Don Whitney: Day 1

Lord Jesus, thank you that you love . I know that you hate what their illness is doing to them/me. I ask that you would heal this disease, that you would have compassion and bring healing from all sickness.

Your word says in Psalm 107:19-20 that when we call out to you the Eternal one you will give the order, heal and rescue us from certain death. In the Bible, I have read of miraculous healing and I believe that you still heal the same way today. I believe that there is no illness you cannot heal after all the bible tells of you raising people from the dead so I ask for your healing in this situation.

I also know from my experience of life on earth that not everyone is healed. If that happens here then keep my heart soft towards you, help me to understand your plan, and help me to be excited about heaven.

God, I thank you that belongs to you and that you are in control of everything that happens from our first breath to our last sigh. Amen. ~ Wendy van Eyck

Chronicles 1: 1: Prayer Basic Of Communication

1 Chronicles 16:11commands us to Look to the LORD and his strength seek his face always.

Prayer should be a constant dialog with The Lord! Some think that prayer always needs to be a long, drawn-out session, but that is not true!

Our Creator wants us to be in constant communication with us, and that looks like frequent, short prayers throughout the day.

I often pray just a sentence or two asking for God to go before me in a certain situation, or to guide my words during a conversation, or to give me strength when taking on a difficult project. We need to remember to seek his face always!
