Count On Christ’s Life In You
Temptation comes to us, not only from Satan, but also from within us. The Bible says,
“each one is tempted when he is drawn away by his own desires and enticed.” James 1:14
We have within us something which is always trying to pull us down into sin. The Bible calls it “the law of sin which is in our members.”
What is a “law”? A law is something that happens over and over. For instance, we speak of “the law of gravity.” What do we mean by this? We mean that there is a force that always causes an object to fall to the ground when it is released. No matter where you go, this happens so we call it “the law of gravity.”
We have within us a sin principle which is always trying to pull us down into sin. This is why the Bible calls it “the law of sin.”
Can we overcome the law of sin by our own efforts? No, we cannot. God must deliver us from sin’s power.
How Does God Deliver Us?
God delivers us by giving us Christ. His life overcomes the law of sin and death in us.
Let us think about the law of gravity again. We know that the law of gravity is always operating. It holds us fast to the ground. We cannot fly without some mechanical device.
But birds fly. Does this mean that the law of gravity does not operate on them? No, the law of gravity pulls them downward just as it does us. But birds have a kind of life that overcomes the law of gravity. The “law” of a bird’s life is to fly.

Bible Verses About Overcoming: 21 Motivational Quotes
Whenever I think of the word, motivation, I think of the sports world. I have been a sports fan for my entire life. Motivation is often a big part of which team wins or looses a game. Coaches will often credit motivation when they win and likewise will say there was a lack of motivation when they loose. Motivation is not something that can be measured but each of us knows exactly what it is. Sometimes we may be motivated to do things in our life and we follow through on a commitment or promise. Other times we can also feel the lack of motivation in our own lives. The Bible is filled with words that not only challenge us but give us motivation to overcome obstacles in our lives. I have broken down these motivational verses into three categories below.
Isaiah 41:13 For I, the LORD your God, hold your right hand it is I who say to you, Fear not, I am the one who helps you.
How Can I Overcome Sin
The Bible says in no uncertain terms that we as Christians are to live an overcoming life in our battle against sin. And we dont overcome sin by the skin of our teeth: we are to be more than conquerors , and God always leads us in triumph!
Yet, though I want to live a life pleasing to God, it can be quite daunting to meet the reactions that come from my nature to events and situations in daily life. I think, say and do things that are not according to Gods will. Paul describes it very well in Romans 7:18-19: For I know that in me nothing good dwells for to will is present with me, but how to perform what is good I do not find. For the good that I will to do, I do not do but the evil I will not to do, that I practice. It can seem that this sin inherent in my flesh is just too strong to resist. So, how can I overcome sin?
Pray With Vehement Cries And Tears
who, in the days of His flesh, when He had offered up prayers and supplications, with vehement cries and tears to Him who was able to save Him from death, and was heard because of His godly fear, though He was a Son, yet He learned obedience by the things which He suffered. Hebrews 5:7-8. Jesus really was a man like us. God didnt give Him any special privileges or make the way easier for Him, because then the whole work of salvation would have been corrupted and worthless. Jesus fought a desperate battle against the sin in His flesh, and needed help. His vehement cries and tears were heard because they were genuine, the result of only wanting to serve God.
God taught Him obedience, and gave Him the strength and resolve He needed to deny Himself, every single time. How desperate am I to gain the victory? How vehement are my cries to God? How willing am I to obey? Do I want to be saved from death? To overcome like He overcame, I need to follow Jesus in everything, also in how I pray to God for help. In my situation, the lusts in my flesh and the pressures from outside can loom up like an enormous mountain. The battle can seem overwhelming. But I am not alone.
What The Bible Says About Laziness
Consider her ways and be wise,Which, having no captain,Provides her supplies in the summer,And gathers her food in the harvest. How long will you slumber, O sluggard? When will you rise from your sleep?A little sleep, a little slumber,A little folding of the hands to sleep So shall your poverty come on you like a prowler,And your need like an armed man.
Cursed is he who does the work of the Lord lazily. And cursed is he who keeps back his sword from blood.
On the battlefield, if a soldier for one reason or another fails to use his sword against the enemy, the enemy will sooner or later defeat him. As warriors of God, we are also called to battle against sin in the flesh. If we are unwilling to suffer to deny our lusts the nourishment they demand we succumb to temptation and therefore give in to the desires of the flesh.
He who has a slack hand becomes poor,But the hand of the diligent makes rich.He who gathers in summer is a wise son He who sleeps in harvest is a son who causes shame.
In all labor there is profit,But idle chatter leads only to poverty.
Laziness casts one into a deep sleep,And an idle person will suffer hunger.
He who is slothful in his workIs a brother to him who is a great destroyer.
1 Timothy 5:8
But if anyone does not provide for his own, and especially for those of his household, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.

Willful Sin After Salvation And Eternal Security
Youve raised a great and tricky question. It touches on the mysterious relationship between Gods sovereignty and human free will, and it involves a lot of other theological issues as well.
Christians from different faith traditions dont always agree about the best way to answer these questions, so Focus on the Family tends to steer clear of the discussion . Still, were glad to offer a few thoughts that we hope will address your concerns.
But first, our most important suggestion is that you get help from someone in person. Look for a mature believer you can talk with honestly a pastor, church elder, or qualified Christian counselor. If youre dealing with some kind of addiction, you might not be able to overcome it without psychological or medical treatment.
Would you let us be a starting point? Our licensed or pastoral counselors would be glad to talk with you in more detail. They can also give you a list of qualified professionals in your area.
In the meantime, heres a basic biblical and theological perspective.

Psalms 149:8-9 to bind their kings with chains and their nobles with fetters of iron, to execute on them the judgment written! This is honor for all his godly ones. Praise the LORD!

Ecclesiastes 7:9 Be not quick in your spirit to become angry, for anger lodges in the heart of fools.

James 1:19-21 Know this, my beloved brothers: let every person be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger for the anger of man does not produce the righteousness of God. Therefore put away all filthiness and rampant wickedness and receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls.

To Overcome Worry We Must Pursue Gods Promises
So then, dont worry saying, What will we eat? or What will we drink? or What will we wear? For the unconverted pursue these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But above all pursue his kingdom and righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.
Some have counted over 3,000 promises in Scripture, and Matthew 6:33 is one of the greatest. Christ promises the disciples that if they made Gods kingdom and his righteousness their chief priority, all their needs would be met. The word pursue is a present imperative meaning that this must be ones unceasing quest, not an occasional endeavor.5 When Gods kingdom and righteousness are our priority, God meets our needs, which ultimately delivers us from fear and worry.
Interpretation Question: What does Gods kingdom and righteousness refer to?
Seeking first Gods righteousness also includes the conquering of sin in our lives and replacing it with righteous acts and attitudes. We must pursue the fruits of the Spiritlove, joy, peace, longsuffering, mercy, etc. We must pursue righteousness by serving and discipling other believers. But it also includes social justicepursuing Gods righteousness outside the walls of the church. Believers should feed the poor, fight for the rights of the unborn, the trafficked, and neglected. Believers must pursue righteous ethics in education, government, and our communities. As this happens, others are drawn into the kingdom.
What Does The Bible Say About Sin
We all sin. Its a fact and part of human nature. Our world is fallen and corrupt because of sin. It is impossible to never sin, if anyone says that theyve never committed any iniquity, they are outright liars.
Only Jesus Christ, who was and is perfect in every way, never sinned. Ever since our first earthly father and mother- Adam and Eve- made the catastrophic mistake of taking from the forbidden fruit, we are born with the tendency to choose sin over obedience.
We cannot help ourselves but to keep on falling short of Gods glory. If left to our own devices, we will never measure up to Gods standards, because we are weak and prone to the lusts of the flesh. We enjoy sin too much because it gratifies the flesh. But there is hope in Christ! Read ahead to better understand what sin is, why we sin, where we can find freedom, and more. These sin verses include translations from the KJV, ESV, NIV, NASB, and more.

Is It A Sin To Be Angry
When it comes to anger, this is part of the human emotions when reacting to something that annoys us, or fear of something, frustration etc. We express anger in many ways and some ways do lead to sin, especially when we loose control of our self. The bible says in Ephesians 4:26 Be angry and do not sin do not let the sun go down on your anger. This is an indication that the bible acknowledges that we will be angry at some point in our life, but warns us not to allow the anger linger till night fall.
So when we get angry, we need to resolve whatever the issue is with whom ever it involves immediately and reconcile. If we fail to do that, then that in my opinion is a sin.
To Overcome Worry We Must Recognize Our Great Value To God
Look at the birds in the sky: They do not sow, or reap, or gather into barns, yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Arent you more valuable than they are?
Interpretation Question: In what ways are humans more valuable than other parts of creation?
It must be noticed that Christ doesnt say the birds Father. He says the disciples Father feeds them. Christ then says, Arent you more valuable than they are? Birds are not made in the image of God, nor being recreated in his image . They are not sons and daughters of Godco-heirs with Christ . God made man his chief in creation. In the recreation, which happens at the new birth, he makes us one with Christ and indwells us. We are certainly more valuable than birds, flowers, and grass. How much more will God make sure that we have all our needs? He doesnt promise us our wants. Sometimes we worry because we lack our wants. God promises to provide our needs .
Therefore, a great amount of our worry happens because we dont understand our immense value to God. Romans 8:31-32 says,
What then shall we say about these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? Indeed, he who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us allhow will he not also, along with him, freely give us all things?
If God gave his best for ushis Sonhow will he not also provide everything else we need? We are of supreme value. God gave it all for us.
Application Question: How can we grow in understanding our value?

Why Do We Sin
The million-dollar question is, so if we know what were supposed to do and what were not supposed to do, why do we still sin? We are born with a sinful nature after our first parents. Yet, we still have free will, but like our first parents, we choose to sin. Because doing our own thing over obeying the Word, brings our human flesh more satisfaction.
We sin because its easier than walking in obedience. Even when we dont want to sin, there is a war inside of us. The Spirit wants to obey but the flesh wants to do its own thing. We dont want to think about the consequences so we find it easier to dive right into the grime and mire that sin is. Sin is fun and enjoyable to the flesh although it comes at a high cost.
5. Romans 7:15-18 For I do not understand my own actions. For I do not do what I want, but I do the very thing I hate. Now if I do what I do not want, I agree with the law, that it is good. So now it is no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells within me. For I know that nothing good dwells in me, that is, in my flesh. For I have the desire to do what is right, but not the ability to carry it out.
6. Matthew 26:41 Watch and pray that you may not enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.
8. James 1:14-15 but each person is tempted when they are dragged away by their own evil desire and enticed. 15 Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death.
So What About Deliberate Sin
Hebrews 10:26-31 might be what your friend had in mind when he said that God will reject those who keep sinning willfully. But its possible to look at this portion of Scripture from a different angle. Lets start with what the passage says:
26 For if we go on sinning deliberately after receiving the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins, 27 but a fearful expectation of judgment, and a fury of fire that will consume the adversaries. 28 Anyone who has set aside the law of Moses dies without mercy on the evidence of two or three witnesses. 29 How much worse punishment, do you think, will be deserved by the one who has trampled underfoot the Son of God, and has profaned the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified, and has outraged the Spirit of grace? 30 For we know him who said, Vengeance is mine I will repay. And again, The Lord will judge his people. 31 It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.
As we see it, theres good reason to suppose that the deliberate sin of verse 26 is the same as the unforgiveable sin that Jesus mentions in Matthew 12:31. To be specific, its the sin of rejecting Christ altogether .
We could also call this the sin of persistent self-hardening. Its the process where an individual sears his conscience and stiffens his neck against God. If it goes on long enough, the person eventually reaches the point where genuine repentance is impossible.

Overcome Temptation By Learning Wisdom
Proverbs 4:6-7 says, Do not forsake wisdom, and she will protect you love her, and she will watch over you. Wisdom is supreme therefore get wisdom. Though it cost all you have, get understanding.
In the Bible, wisdom means more than knowing lots of stuff. Its knowing the right thing to do and doing it. This can seem challenging when we face temptation for things like porn that are so easily available.
Proverbs is a handbook on how to live wisely. Proverbs 2:16-19 addresses sexual temptation:
Wisdom will save you also from the adulterous woman, from the wayward woman with her seductive words who has left the partner of her youth and ignored the covenant she made before God. Surely her house leads down to death and her paths to the spirits of the dead. None who go to her return or attain the paths of life.
The adulterous or wayward woman described here could easily be referring to porn. Notice what this passage promises:
- Wisdom will guard you from the allure of porn.
- Wisdom will guard you from the lies of porn .
- Wisdom will protect you from the path to porn .
Part of wisdom is knowing when to run. 1 Corinthians 6:18 warns us to, Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a person commits are outside the body, but whoever sins sexually, sins against their own body. When youre tempted by a provocative pop-up ad or
As you read these verses, ask God for the wisdom to know what boundaries you need to help you avoid porn.
