How To Get Started With Scripture Writing

How to Memorize Bible Verses Using Scripture Writing | Scripture Memorization for Beginners

The goal of Scripture engagement is to meet God in his Word.

Once I realized this, I stopped in my tracks. I asked God to forgive me for not being more intentional with my walk with Him and for allowing an interference between us.

Ive always enjoyed writing out bible verses vs bible journaling. Im not a talented doodle-ist, but there is something about writing out Gods word that makes me stop and focus on Him.

Here is how I like to do my daily scripture writing.

How to write Bible verses:

#1 Either research a certain word or topic in the bible, a topic that you are wanting to focus on. For example Love, Faith, Overcoming, Biblical Marriage, Dating, Trust, Fear, etc. OR follow me for my scripture writing challenges as Im already putting in the work to hunt down topic bible verses.

If you do it on your own, find one verse per day of the month, if you are doing a monthly scripture writing challenge. You most definitely can do this on a weekly basis as well.

#2 Get a notebook, planner, or something to write on and a pen or pencil. Or better yet, Download my Scripture Writing Journal! Several of my scripture writing plans have an accompanying scripture writing journal.

#3 Get something to write with! Colored pens, markers, or pencils are great to write with and color in your doodles or brighten up the white space around the scripture verse you write out.

Its that easy! It doesnt have to be fancy or complicated. See examples of a Bible writing plan below.

Scripture Writing Increases Your Intake Of Gods Powerful Word

Proverbs 30:5 says, Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him.

II Timothy 3:16-17 says, All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness that the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.

Psalm 12:6 says, And the words of the LORD are flawless, like silver purified in a crucible, like gold refined seven times.

If Gods Word is that powerful, any way we can increase our interaction with it is a good thing!

    Bible Verses About Writing

Now because of all thisWe are making an agreement in writing And on the sealed document are the names of our leaders, our Levites and our priests.

When a man takes a wife and marries her, and it happens that she finds no favor in his eyes because he has found some indecency in her, and he writes her a certificate of divorce and puts it in her hand and sends her out from his house,

So she wrote letters in Ahabs name and sealed them with his seal, and sent letters to the elders and to the nobles who were living with Naboth in his city. Now she wrote in the letters, saying, Proclaim a fast and seat Naboth at the head of the people and seat two worthless men before him, and let them testify against him, saying, You cursed God and the king. Then take him out and stone him to death.read more.So the men of his city, the elders and the nobles who lived in his city, did as Jezebel had sent word to them, just as it was written in the letters which she had sent them.

Then Moses turned and went down from the mountain with the two tablets of the testimony in his hand, tablets which were written on both sides they were written on one side and the other. The tablets were Gods work, and the writing was Gods writing engraved on the tablets.

That with an iron stylus and leadThey were engraved in the rock forever!

Mention The Context Instead Of Giving The Reference

Why mention chapter and verse numbers at all if you dont expect people to look them up? Its like a person you just met saying, Im from Connecticut, where are you from? and you replying, Im from 16114 Edgewood Drive, Montclair, Virginia 22026. This is, at best, too much information. At worst, its confusing: language is built on the implicit promise of relevance, the idea that anything you say to someone else is intelligible and useful given the knowledge you share and the situation youre in. Someone who hears you give your home address, zip code and all, will struggle to figure out what possible purpose you might have for doing so.

Unless you do in fact want people turning to a given passage, the time you spend saying Romans chapter 1 verses 16 through 18 could be better spent making a brief reference to the context of the statements youre about to quote. It could be as simple as saying, Paul says in his letter to the Romans. . . It could also go into slightly more detail: Right after exulting in his calling as an apostle, Paul exults in the power of the message he was given by saying. . . Much more than knowing a Bible statements precise home address, people need to know the general terrain in which it resides. This is more helpful for understandingwhich is your goal, right?

MLA in-text citations of the Bible differ from other book citations in that they list the book, chapter, and verse rather than the page number.

In the Works Cited entry, its important to list the version of the Bible you used, not just The Bible. Include a URL if you accessed an online version of the Bible.

    When You Need To Refocus

Sometimes when discouragement and symptoms of depression hit its because we have lost our focus. We are not seeking Christ. We are not loving Him with all our heart, soul, and mind. And when our focus is not on Christ we are serving other idols. When we are not focused on Christ, we will be prone to be overwhelmed and discouraged. This can negatively affect our ability to write well.

    17) You will keep the mind that is dependent on You in perfect peace, for it is trusting in You. Isaiah 26:3

    18) Jesus replied, Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind, Matthew 22:37

    19) So that we may no longer be children, tossed to and fro by the waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by human cunning, by craftiness in deceitful schemes. Ephesians 4:14

    20) But you, Lord, are a shield around me, my glory, the One who lifts my head high. Psalm 3:3

What Do You Do If What Youre Copying Is Already In Quotation Marks

Sometimes you will quote something that is already in quotation marks. This happens often when quoting something Jesus said. Lets say you want to quote this statement Jesus makes in John 14:6: I am the way, and the truth, and the life no one comes to the Father but through Me.

If I want to include this in my manuscript, I use regular quotation marks to show Im copying the verse, and I change the already existing quotation marks to single quotation marks. You can see this done below. This is called single inside of double quotation marks.

In John 14:6 Jesus says, I am the way, and the truth, and the life no one comes to the Father but through Me.

    Publication Of Original Dates

When making a citation of a classic version Bible, you refer to a reprint of a modern version of the bible. It is not the original version.

The date you will first indicate is the reprint date. The original publication date will appear at the end.

The original date will be listed first in the in-text citation, followed by the edition date, and then a slash to separate them.

When using different bible versions, follow the example given below:

Having a bible citation is a recent addition in the APA 7th Edition format on your references page.

Other religious books, together with the bible, are classified as classical works under the APA editing style.

For classical works, APA requires that you do not cite in the reference list. Thus, only cite the bible in the in-text citation.

You may want to check our other guide on citing book chapters in APA.

Be aware of the format you are going to use in creating the citations of the APA paper. Also, include a hanging indent. In case you need help with biblical citations, place an order and our ivy league writers will take care of it

What Is Scripture Writing And What Are Its Benefits

Why would a person want to hand copy Scripture and what are the benefits?

Scripture writing is a powerful way to absorb Gods word by manually writing the word of God that helps us to retain it.Thy word have I hid in my heart.

Psalm 119:11 says Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee. The Hebrew word for hid is tsâphan which means to hide or to treasure. The Brown-Driver-Briggs definition is to lie hidden and to hide from discovery.

Are you hiding and treasuring the word of God in your heart so you wont sin against the Lord? Is the word of God embedded in your heart that it is hidden from discovery?

Scripture writing is one more weapon in the arsenal of hiding Gods word in your heart!

And that, lovely friend, is what its all about- connecting to God through His Word.
