Bible Verses About Hope

Funny Out of Context Bible Verses [Top 5]

When all seems hopeless, Gods message about our future can deeply encourage us. The Bible is full of scripture about hope and its good to be reminded from time to time of the hope that God offers to us.

  • Psalm 62:5-8 Yes, my soul, find rest in God my hope comes from him. Truly he is my rock and my salvation he is my fortress, I shall not be shaken. My salvation and my honour depend on God he is my mighty rock, my refuge. Trust in him at all times, you people pour out your hearts to him, for God is our refuge.
  • Hebrews 11:1 Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.
  • Hebrews 6:19 We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure.
  • Romans 12:9-12 Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil cling to what is good. Be devoted to one another in love. Honour one another above yourselves. Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervour, serving the Lord. Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.
  • Hebrews 10:23 Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful.
  • Romans 15:13 May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

What Would Jesus Cut

Matthew 26:11: The poor you will always have with you.

The midterms are this year, so you may hear a politician or two mangle the meaning of Matthew 26:11. Some conservatives cite it as a reason to weaken the social safety net or discourage spending on programs for the poor. The implication is that Jesus would have thought such programs were a waste.

Nothing could be further from the truth, says David B. Gowler, author of The Parables of Jesus.

Left out of their misinterpretation of that saying is the fact that Jesus is actually quoting a passage from Jewish scripture that makes the opposite point, Gowler says.

The passage Gowler refers to is from Deuteronomy 15:7-11, where God declares, Do not be hard-hearted or tight-fisted towards your needy neighbor.

Specifically, Gowler says, Jesus was alluding to the 11th verse: Since there will never cease to be some in need on the earth, I therefore command you, Open your hand to the poor and needy neighbor in your land.

The continual existence of the poor serves as the fundamental reason for Gods command to assist them, to give liberally and ungrudgingly, says Gowler, a senior faculty fellow at the Center for Ethics at Emory University in Atlanta.

A reader doesnt even have to flip to Deuteronomy to figure out that Jesus isnt saying its a waste to give to the poor, says Saint Leos Pugliese. Just read the version of the same story in the gospel of Mark.

The Sleep Of A Laboring Man Is Sweet Whether He Eats Little Or Much But The Abundance Of The Rich Will Not Permit Him To Sleep

We see here in Ecclesiastes where having enough to satisfy one’s need is not denounced if all is done in temperance and according to the will of God. If you are not at peace with God, then your riches will never cause you to sleep, and you will be kept awake thinking about what you have done or have not done.

There has to be a delicate balance. Otherwise, we will find ourselves working but not enjoying our rewards because our riches are bound on earth where we know moth and rust can destroy and thieves can break in and steal .

Then The Dust Will Return To The Earth As It Was And The Spirit Will Return To God Who Gave It

God in His wisdom made us with His hands, and we not only think about resting in peace in this mortal state, but we think of peace in the world to come.

When we die, our breath goes back to God who gave it to us, and because of our relationship with Him, we are at peace at our death that we will enter into His eternal rest at His appearing. Luke 23: 46 tells us, Then Jesus called out in a loud voice, “Father, into Your hands I commit My Spirit.

And when He had said this, He breathed His last. Similarly, Stephen had the peace of eternal when he knew he was going to die. Acts 7:59, While they were stoning him, Stephen appealed, “Lord Jesus, receive my spirit.

You Are Worth More Than Many Sparrows

Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies? Yet not one of them is forgotten by God. Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Dont be afraid you are worth more than many sparrows.

Sparrows lives were of so little value that each was worth less than a penny. In fact, the parallel passage from Matthews gospel tells us that two were sold for a penny, and so Luke is revealing here that if you purchased four, one was thrown in for free. But God knows every single sparrow, no matter how little value they hold to humans.

And you are worth more than many of them.

God knows you better than you know yourself . And while that might seem like a trivial piece of information, the point Jesus is making is this: God knows you so well that no one can harm a hair on your head without him knowing. You are so valuable to the God who created you that he has taken the time to become intimately familiar with every detail about you.

Sometimes we have to move away into a quiet and secluded environment so that rest can really take place. The scriptures below reveal the necessity of relaxation in the process of rest regardless of the task you are undertaking.

The Word Of God Never Changes

Taking Bible Verses out of Context

The Bible says, The Bible is living and active. Sharper than any two-edged blade, it divides soul and spirit, joints and marrow it evaluates the hearts thoughts and attitudes . The Bible never changes we do. If we disagree with something in the Bible, we must change, not the Bible. Change our minds in light of Gods unchanging Word. Furthermore, 2 Timothy 3:16 says, All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, reproof, correction, and training in righteousness. If the Word changed, we could not depend on it for progress.

John chapter one talks about how God is the Word and how His Son became the Word showing its infallible nature. As a matter of fact, Revelations 22:19 warns the world not to take away or add to the Word, for we are sinners and cannot create perfection like God. In John 12:48, Jesus states, The one who rejects me and does not receive my words has a judge the word that I have spoken will judge him on the last day. The verse shows how immutable the Word remains.

8. Matthew 24:35 Heaven and earth will disappear, but my words will never disappear.

9. Psalm 119:89 it is firmly fixed in the heavens.

10. Mark 13:31 Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will by no means pass away.

11. 1 Peter 1:23 Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.

14. Psalm 119:152 Long ago I learned from Your testimonies that You have established them forever.

And He Said My Presence Will Go With You And I Will Give You Rest Exodus 3: 14 Nkjv

In God’s presence, there is rest because He says He will provide the opportunity for you to be still. When you approach Him through prayer, your soul will be calm, and the troubles that often cause you to be overwhelmed will fade.

This is a profound verse about what God offers us once we are in His presence with a certain expectancy and hope. This promise came to life also in Joshua 22:4, “And now that the LORD your God has given your brothers rest as He promised them, you may return to your homes in the land that Moses the servant of the LORD gave you across the Jordan.”

It Is Vain For You To Rise Up Early To Sit Up Late To Eat The Bread Of Sorrows For So He Gives His Beloved Sleep

This verse does not suggest that we are not to work or not to work hard. Instead, it highlights that sleep is a precious gift that comes with peace and confidence in God and that sleep is better than working every day all day without rest. If God grants sleep to those he loves, then sleep is a gift from God.

Sleep rejuvenates the body and gives us new thoughts. Ecclesiastes 6:7 gives us a sad reality and helps us see that it is better to treasure our sleep because, ‘All the labour of man is for his mouth, and yet the appetite is not filled.’

Bible Verses About Generosity And Giving

The Reason Why In

Sponsored child 11-year-old Rocio receives a package from her sponsor in Colomi, Bolivia.

World Vision helped a Rwandan community build a milk processing plant to buy surplus milk and sell it to the market. But the community decided to take it a step further. They began to generously give free milk to orphans to boost their health. The milk saved lives, including Mosess. Noel brought Moses to the milk center regularly after finding him starving on the side of the road. Today, the little boy is healthy and loved.

Church, community, and World Vision volunteers all generously give their time freely to unload and distribute relief supplies for victims of Hurricane Harvey in Houston, Texas.

John Nalukobo, 74, is surrounded by the orphaned grandchildren he and his wife raise, plus one of the goats they were given from another family in the community. That family first received goats from a World Vision donor who purchased the animals through the Gift Catalog. Last year, John was also able to donate goats for another family in need. I was really excited because I was also helped, and I needed to help another family.

You Will Keep Him In Perfect Peace Whose Mind Is Stayed On You Because He Trusts In You Isaiah 2: 3 Nkjv

The prophet here keeps in focus just how important it is to stay in tune with God so that we can always feel refreshed by the peace of God. Perfect rest comes when our minds remain on Jesus Christ. To receive the kind of rest that will restore our souls, we must trust in God consistently, and He then will keep us in perfect peace.

This refreshment is possible because Ephesians 2:14 also declares that He Himself is our peace and he has broken down the middle wall of separation. We, therefore, have no barrier which hinders us from this ideal.

I Lay Down And Slept I Awoke For The Lord Sustained Me

David here was in a place where he was being mocked, and persons were scheming to destroy him.Yet David’s trust in God has him declaring that he can sleep and know he will see another day not of his own merits but by the merits of God.

This Psalm reminds us so beautifully how God provides for us everything we need rest and sleep even when our enemies are at our gates.

Leviticus 26:6 sustains this idea of how God provides sleep amid danger, “I will give peace in the land, and you shall lie down, and none will make you afraid I will rid the land of evil beasts, and the sword will not go through your land.’

Godliness Is Of More Value

Bible Verses Used OUT of CONTEXT By the LDS (Mormon) Church

There are several benefits to working out. However, make sure that you are working out yourself spiritually. If you can go hard in the gym, make it your goal to pursue Jesus even harder. Why? He is greater! He is far more precious. He is more valuable. Godliness should come before physical training.

6. 1 Timothy 4:8 For physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come.

7. 2 Corinthians 4:16 Therefore we do not lose heart. Though our outer self is wasting away, yet our inner self is being renewed day by day.

8. 1 Corinthians 9:24-25 Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize. 25 Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last, but we do it to get a crown that will last forever.

9. 2 Timothy 4:7 I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.

10. 2 Peter 3:11 Since all these things are thus to be dissolved, what sort of people ought you to be in lives of holiness and godliness.

11. 1 Timothy 6:6 But godliness with contentment is great gain.
