To the Greeks, Cerberus was a monstrous three-headed dog, or “hell hound” with a serpent’s tail, a mane of snakes, and a lion’s claws. His three heads were thought to represent the past, the present, and the future while other sources suggest they were symbolic of birth, youth, and old age.
The most potent ability of Cerberus was his look, which was so dreadful that anyone who looked upon him was immediately turned into stone. It was said that Cerberus had razor sharp teeth and a poisonous bite. The poison that drips onto the ground sprung up as a plant that is known as the wolfs bane.

You dont need to take any special precautions. Hell hounds are shy phantoms and they avoid most contact with humans. Some people have shot silver bullets at them, but the bullets pass through them without injuring it. Its an apparition after all. A common folk tale states you shouldnt look directly into a hell hounds eyes. It will put a curse on you and you will die in one year. This last statement is purely fiction.

The most famous story of Cerberus involves the half-man, half-god Hercules . As the last of his twelve labors, Eurystheus, the king of Tiryns demanded that Hercules capture and bring Cerberus back alive. Eurystheus was certain that Hercules would fail in this impossible task.
Hercules went to the Underworld, found Hades who told him that if could take Cerberus without the use of weapons, he would be allowed to leave the Underworld with the hell hound. When Hercules found Cerberus on the shore of Acheron, he began wrestling with the huge monster using only his bare hands.
As the world’s strongest man, it took all his power to subdue Cerberus. But the monster soon grew weary, and having run out of breath by the strongman’s chokehold, finally yielded to Hercules. Cerberus is one of the few monsters who ever met Hercules and survived. Unlike other supernatural beasts that crossed his path, Cerberus was returned safely to Hades, where he resumed guarding the gateway to the Underworld.

How To Protect Yourself From Hellhounds
If you think you can outrun one of these ferocious beasts, go for it. Just remember that they have speed and cunning on their side. Your better bets would be to use either salt and iron to ward them off.
Better yet, find shelter inside a holy place. If you could find a local church, head in! Since these death dogs are demonic, they cant enter.
The main purpose of one of these beasts is to literally drag your soul to hell. But truth be told, the chance of you running into one of these animals is slim to none. I wouldnt lose sleep over it.

In the 1930’s Stalin ordered a purge of all Bibles and all believers. In Stavropol, Russia, this order was carried out with vengeance. Thousands of Bibles were confiscated, and multitudes of believers were sent to the gulags-prison camps-where most died, unjustly condemned as “enemies of the state.”
The CoMission once sent a team to Stavropol. The city’s history wasn’t known at that time. But when the team was having difficulty getting Bibles shipped from Moscow, someone mentioned the existence of a warehouse outside of town where these confiscated Bibles had been stored since Stalin’s day.
After the team had prayed extensively, one member finally mustered up the courage to go to the warehouse and ask the officials if the Bibles were still there. Sure enough, they were. Then the CoMissioners asked if the Bibles could be removed and distributed again to the people of Stavropol. The answer was “Yes!”
The next day the CoMission team returned with a truck and several Russian people to help load the Bibles. One helper was a young man-a skeptical, hostile agnostic collegian who had come only for the day’s wages. As they were loading Bibles, one team member noticed that the young man had disappeared. Eventually they found him in a corner of the warehouse, weeping.

ANCIENT ORIGINS:Archaeologists have discovered the skeleton of a massive dog that would have stood 7 feet tall on its hind legs, in the ruins of Leiston Abbey in Suffolk, England, according to a news report in The Express. The remains are near where an ancient legend spoke of a hellhound called Black Shuck, said to have flaming red eyes and a rugged black coat, who terrorized villagers. The name Shuck derives from the Old English word scucca meaning demon. He is one of many ghostly black dogs recorded across the British Isles. Its alleged appearance during a storm on 4th August, 1577 at the Holy Trinity Church, Blythburgh, is a particularly famous account of the beast, in which legend says that thunder caused the doors of the church to burst open and the snarling dog crashed in and ran through the congregation, killing a man and a boy, before it fled when the steeple collapsed. Terrifying tales of “hell hounds” – ferocious black dogs, eyes glowing and teeth bared as they wreak vengeance on the population – have been the stuff of legend for centuries. It has cemented the place of these mythical beasts in English folklore, but how and why have accounts of their terrifying marauding spread so far and wide?
In 1577, according to one particularly poetic account, a snarling beast broke into a church, rampaged through the congregation and bit the necks of two people – who promptly dropped dead.
Having traumatised the churchgoers of Bungay in Suffolk, the mythical dog – known as Black Shuck – next cropped up on the county’s coast at Blythburgh.
Again, it targeted worshippers – bursting though the doors of Holy Trinity Church before killing a man and boy and causing the steeple to collapse.
The beast left scorch marks on the church door, according to legend.
Photographer and researcher Nick Stone is mapping similar stories and has so far collected between 400 and 500 accounts.
Stories added to the map speak of lonely pets pining for dead masters and packs of hounds led in “wild hunts” by men on horseback.
Hell hounds were also reported to appear at 17th Century witch trials.
But not all accounts of Black Shuck depict the beast as a ferocious predator.
In Littleport in Cambridgeshire, a shadowy canine is said to have turned protector, rescuing a local girl from an attempted rape by a friar.
