Psalm 23 Gods Word Translation

Title A psalm by David.

1 The Lord is my shepherd.

I am never in need.

2 He makes me lie down in green pastures.

He leads me beside peaceful waters.

3 He renews my soul.

He guides me along the paths of righteousness

for the sake of his name.

4 Even though I walk through the dark valley of death,

because you are with me, I fear no harm.

Your rod and your staff give me courage.

5 You prepare a banquet for me while my enemies watch.

You anoint my head with oil.

My cup overflows.

6 Certainly, goodness and mercy will stay close to me all the days of my life,

and I will remain in the Lords house for days without end.

Thoughts On Today’s Verse

Darkness is more than a symbol, it is a pervasive way of living and viewing the world. Darkness is the place of deception, evil, crime, predators, sin, and death. To follow Jesus means to bring him our heart and let him cast from the darkness that plagues us on the inside so we don’t have to be afraid of the darkness on the outside. In this way, Jesus gives us light, but it is a light that does more than fill a dark room with light. This is a light that illumines the heart.

Psalm 23 The New King James Version

Title A Psalm of David.

1 The Lordis my shepherd I shall not want.

2 He makes me to lie down in green pastures

He leads me beside the still waters.

3 He restores my soul

He leads me in the paths of righteousness

For His names sake.

4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,

I will fear no evil

For You are with me

Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.

5 You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies

You anoint my head with oil

My cup runs over.

Psalm 23 Explained Line By Line

Psalm 20:1 kjv

The LORD is my shepherd I shall not want. The Lord is always watching over us and taking care of us. He knows our needs and He supplies them according to His riches in Christ Jesus and makes sure that we are never in want.

Psalm 23:2 kjv

He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. The Lord makes sure that I am in an abundant supply of all that I need in both physical and spiritual needs. He supplies the best of the best needs in my life. Look at what the Lord says in another place concerning my supply. Blessed be the Lord, who daily loadeth us with benefits, even the God of our salvation. Selah. . I have been young, and now am old yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread.

Psalm 23:3 kjv

He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his names sake. The Lord knows that sometimes I may get weary in the journey of life but the good thing is that through His word my soul is restored and the same word of God has instructions to lead me in ways of righteousness so that I may obtain wisdom from His word and not make mistakes in life that may hurt my soul.

My soul cleaveth unto the dust: quicken thou me according to thy word. All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness.

Don’t Miss: What Does The Bible Say About Fathers Responsibilities

Psalm 23 Divine Shepherd And Host

Gods relationship with his people is like that of a shepherd to his sheep. He provides what is best for them, refreshes them continually, and guides them in the way that he knows is right. In so doing he proves himself faithful to his own nature as the covenant God of his chosen people .

Despite Gods provision and guidance, there will be dangers along the way. But as a shepherd uses his club to beat off wild animals, and his crook to rescue the troubled sheep, so will God care for his people . Wild animals may surround them, but they can feed in safety under the protection of the heavenly shepherd. In view of Gods provision of the best food for those in his care, the picture changes from the divine shepherd to the divine host. God gives special attention to his guests, just as a host in ancient times gave special honour to a guest by anointing his head with oil. The guests in Gods house, however, never have to leave. They are with him for ever .
