Bible Verses About Race

Running the Race | Bible Story | LifeKids

If you have run with footmen and they have tired you out,Then how can you compete with horses? If you fall down in a land of peace,How will you do in the thicket of the Jordan?

Which is as a bridegroom coming out of his chamber It rejoices as a strong man to run his course.

It was because of a revelation that I went up and I submitted to them the gospel which I preach among the Gentiles, but I did so in private to those who were of reputation, for fear that I might be running, or had run, in vain.

When the Most High gave the nations their inheritance,When He separated the sons of man,He set the boundaries of the peoplesAccording to the number of the sons of Israel.

I again saw under the sun that the race is not to the swift and the battle is not to the warriors, and neither is bread to the wise nor wealth to the discerning nor favor to men of ability for time and chance overtake them all.

What Bible Verse Says Run The Race

One of the best-known run the race verses is found in Hebrews 12:1-2.

Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God .

However, Hebrews 12:1 isnt the only run the race verse in Scripture. Although the author of Hebrews is uncertain, Paul seems to love the analogy. In 1 Corinthians 9:24, Paul refers to only one runner in a race getting the prize. In Philippians 3:13-14, Paul presses on toward the prize. In Galatians 5:7, Paul chastises believers who once ran well but no longer follow the truth. In 2 Timothy 4:7, an older Paul, nearing his personal races end, talks about finishing it.

Our English word agony derives from the Greek agon, translated in Hebrews 12 as race. A race, in its full sense, embodies conflict, fight, and contention. The same root word describes various struggles throughout many of Pauls books.

Where Does The Bible Tell Us To Run The Race

The Bible refers to running the race in several verses. A few include 2 Timothy 4:7-8, I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. And Philippians 3:14 says, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. However, one of the most well-known passages on running the race is found in Hebrews 12:1-3.

Run The Race Bible Verses

Here are some of my favorite scriptures about running the race. Memorizing these scriptures can help you stay focused on running your race. The Bible verses below are from ESV.

Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may obtain it. And everyone who competes for the prize is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a perishable crown, but we for an imperishable crown. Therefore I run thus: not with uncertainty. Thus I fight: not as one who beats the air. But I discipline my body and bring it into subjection, lest, when I have preached to others, I myself should become disqualified.1 Corinthians 9:24-27

I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.2 Timothy 4:7

Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, Hebrews 12:1

How Does Focusing On Jesus Help Us Run The Race

Keep Running The Race Hebrews Bible Scripture Verse Drawing by Noirty ...

Hebrews 12:2b-3 says, For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Consider him who endured such opposition from sinners, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.

Jesus paved the way for our race by finishing His victoriously, showing us what it means to run with endurance and eyes fixed on the finish line. Joyfully, Jesus endured what none of us could so that through His suffering and resurrection, we might have the privilege of running this race of faith for our reward, Jesus Christ.

What Is Needed To Run The Race For Jesus

In 1 Corinthians 9:26, Paul says were not to run aimlessly or box as one beating the air. Like a physical race, the spiritual one also requires diligence, training, and self-denial. If we observed the regimen of a long-distance runner, we would notice specific choices they make to prepare and run the race. These choices mirror our race as well:

Runners eat clean. Remember the saying you are what you eat? Its true both physically and spiritually. Jeremiah 15:16 says, When your words came, I ate them they were my joy and my hearts delight, for I bear your name, LORD God Almighty. Clean eating, or eating foods in their natural state, help our physical bodies to operate at a more efficient level. When we meditate or chew on Scripture, we spiritually digest it, just as we digest the food we eat. The pure Word of God meshes with everything we think and do, radically aiding our ability to run the race before us. When we eat clean, our focus remains sharp, keeping us alert to the enemys schemes.

Runners pace themselves. The Christian race is a marathon, not a sprint, meaning that consistency, not the speed at which we run, is the key. Weve all known those who wear themselves out only to burn out. Theyre sitting on the sidelines, and if they remain and dont finish the race, they wont forfeit heaven, but they will forfeit the rewards that await. We do serve God, but He cares more about who we are becoming than what we are doing.

Which Bible Verse Says Tells Us To Run The Race For Jesus

“Run the Race” is one of those New Testament verses we see at every Christian conference, sports event, or summer camp. But what is it really telling us to do?

My cousin ran in the 2013 Boston Marathon, which is quite an accomplishment when you consider how thousands are turned away every year because they didnt qualify to start the race. Thanks be to Jesus Christ that every believer qualifies to start the race. But how will we finish it?

It will take a lot of endurance, tenacity, patience, and resolve to win this marathon. Victory requires that we continue running with unwavering determination and perseverance until we cross the finish line triumphantly.

Running the Race to Obtain an Incorruptible Crown || Message || Bible Study (15/03/2021)

Running the Race of Faithwith purpose in every step.1 Corinthians 9:24-27Dont you realize that in a race everyone runs, but only one person gets the prize? So run to win! 25 All athletes are disciplined in their training. They do it to win a prize that will fade away, but we do it for an eternal prize. 26 So I run with purpose in every step. I am not just shadowboxing. 27 I discipline my body like an athlete, training it to do what it should. Otherwise, I fear that after preaching to others I myself might be disqualified. Jeremiah 12:5“If you have raced with men on foot and they have worn you out, how can you compete with horses? If you stumble in safe country, how will you manage in the thickets by the Jordan? “run and not grow weary.”Isaiah 40:31:Those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.“in the path of His commands.”Psalm 119:32I run in the path of your commands, for you have broadened my understanding.Hebrews 12:1-3:Galatians 5:7You were running a good race. Run The Race Well With Your Eyes On The Prize

Finally, we want to consider the most important aspect of running our Christian race well: keeping our eyes on the prize.Yes, we need proper motivation and encouragement to run, we need to rid ourselves of things that would encumber our progress, we need to prepare for the long haul. But none of this matters if we dont keep our eyes on the prize. In this case, that doesn’t mean a trophy or a finish line. It means looking to Jesus.

This implies we have already begun our race, and now that we have we must continually keep our gaze fixed forward as opposed to backward. We are not to look back on the things that we have left behind, or the weight of sin that we have cast off. They are in the dirt and dust where they belong, whereas we are headed for glory. Colossians offers similar advice for the Christian life:

If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth. For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God.

Running a race well can never entail looking back. Looking back implies our heart and our desires and our loves are all still back at the starting line, and not in the kingdom of God. When we look back we reveal that we actually belong with the world and the things of the world, and not with the world to come. And if we belong to the world, what will eventually become of us?

1 Corinthians 9:24-27Know ye not that they which run in a race run all, but one receiveth the prize? So run, that ye may obtain. And every man that striveth for the mastery is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a corruptible crown but we an incorruptible. I therefore so run, not as uncertainly so fight I, not as one that beateth the air: But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway.

Hebrews 12:1-2Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.

But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength they shall mount up with wings as eagles they shall run, and not be weary and they shall walk, and not faint.

Philippians 3:13-14Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.

Philippians 4:13I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.

Run The Race Well By Casting Off Your Weights

BIBLE QUOTES, BIBLE VERSE, RACE, RUN THE RACE LOOKING UNTO JESUS, THE ...

Second, we see that in order to run well we must cast off our weights. Lighter means faster. If runners want to perform their very best, they will make sure they are not weighed down by a cumbersome load. In this context, the word “weight” could refer to extra layers of clothes that slow us down or get in the way. Flowing robes aren’t the attire for running. The analogy to the spiritual is explained in the next clause: and sin which clings so closely. Trying to run the Christian race with sin clinging to us is like trying to run a marathon in a ballroom gown while carrying a backpack filled with bricks.Sin is a weight that ties us down and prevents us from serving Jesus to the best of our ability. Remember Levi the tax collector? His profession was rife with corruption, and it kept him from following after the Savior but when he was called by Christ, we read that he “left everything” . We need to have that same sort of determination. We cannot afford to be hindered in a race that has such important consequences, so we must cast sin off from us. In your life, what sins might be impeding your progress? There can be some very “sticky” sinsthe kind that Hebrews says cling so closely. Part of the reason some sins are so stubborn is because we don’t recognize them as being sins at all. Or at least we don’t recognize them as being very serious sins. Thus, we excuse certain behaviors such as grumpiness, discontent, gossip, envy, judgmentalism, and swearing.

What Does The Bible Say About Running The Race

Here is a Run the Race Bible verse to think about for a moment:

Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize. Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last, but we do it to get a crown that will last forever.1 Corinthians 9: 24 25

Unlike running in an actual race where only one person wins as Christians, we all win the race in the end.

Finishing The Race With Joy
