What Jesus Said About Peace

When we study the Bible and the topic of Peace, a great place to start is with the words of Jesus Christ. These passages are some of the favorites of mine and many other people as they speak comfort and courage into my life. When I struggle with anxiety, I look no further then Jesus saying in John 16:33 that He has overcome this world and gives us peace. We can rest safely in our salvation and cling to these words from our Savior.

Matthew 5:9 Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God.

Matthew 11:28-30 Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.

John 14:27 Peace I leave with you my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.

John 16:33 I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart I have overcome the world.

John 20:19 On the evening of that day, the first day of the week, the doors being locked where the disciples were for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood among them and said to them, Peace be with you.

Temptation Is Not Sin Yielding To Temptation Is

With that background, Paul exhorted believers not to make the same choices the Israelites madenot to provoke Gods discipline by willfully sinning. None of us is above Gods discipline if we engage in sin. We must look for and take the way of escape God provides in every situation where temptation is found . To think our temptation is unique is to believe a lie. No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man . There are no new temptations in life.

The apostle James argued that if temptation becomes serious, it is because we have allowed it to do so. Our own desires entice us away from God and desire gives birth to sin . God doesnt tempt us, but He may allow temptation to enter our lives in order to give us opportunities to make obedient and mature choices.

Jesus was tempted by Satan in the wilderness, and He took the same means of escape that is available to usobedience to Gods Word . Temptation is not sin yielding to temptation is. There is always a righteous choice to be made if we are willing to seek it.

I Create The Fruit Of The Lips Peace Peace To Him That Is Far Off And To Him That Is Near Saith The Lord I Will Heal Him Isaiah 5: 19

When we encounter hard times in our lives, it is absolutely essential to stay near to God. As it says in this verse in Isaiah, God sends peace to those who are far off from Him, yet He heals those who are near Him. Even if we are far off in hard times, God still sends us peace and brings peace into our lives. If this isnt reason enough to serve Him and love Him, I dont know what is.

I Will Lie Down In Peace

These Bible Verses Can Help You Find Inner Peace, No ...

In peace I will lie down and sleep, for you alone, Lord, make me dwell in safety.

It’s no surprise that the Psalms address peace a lot. The poets’ temperament longs for serenity and the psalmists understood that worship was the best posture for someone hungry for peace. In Psalm 4, David tells us that knowing God as his security means that he can sleep peacefully.

I Will Hear What God The Lord Will Speak: For He Will Speak Peace Unto His People And To His Saints: But Let Them Not Turn Again To Folly Psalm : 8

When the Lord speaks, He often speaks peace to His people. Although God is often painted as a wrathful, vengeful God who smites those who get into trouble, He is also a God of peace and He wants peace for His people. In the midst of life, seek Gods voice in everything you do. It will bring peace that you cannot even imagine. Find comfort in His voice and in His presence.

Bible Verses About Peace And Comfort

And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:7 ESV

Like a soldier standing guard at his post, Gods peace protects His children. He gifts us with a gift of inner peace- the exact opposite of anxiety when we give our cares to Him. It is a peace beyond our human comprehension but felt in a real, tangible way when we believe.

Peace I leave with you my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives, do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid. John 14:27 ESV.

Jesus peace is a gift of total well-being and inner rest of spirit. It is a calmness and confidence in who he is.

May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. Romans 15:13

He is not promising to get rid of our problems. But when we take our eyes off the storm and look to Him, He will give us His perspective of joy and peace. The bonus is that we then overflow with an indestructible hope in every situation.

I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world, you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world. John 16:33 NIV.

Notice the contrasts? It reminds me of the saying Know Jesus- know peace. No Jesus- no peace.

This passage from Numbers is often used as a benediction. The Bible frequently associates God’s posture toward His people with their immediate experience. If His face was toward them, their lives would be marked by success and tranquility, but if they caused Him to turn His face away, the result would be catastrophic.

Therefore Being Justified By Faith We Have Peace With God Through Our Lord Jesus Christ: Romans : 1

One of the mistakes we often make is that we underestimate the power of what Christ did for us on the cross. Through His sacrifice and love, He justified us by faith by His sacrifice and brought us healing. Paul says here in Romans 5:1 that by that very same sacrifice, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. Paul is saying that even though we are at odds with God because of our evil sin, Jesus new covenant through His love made it possible for us to have peace with God.

May The Lord Give You Peace

Now may the Lord of peace himself give you peace at all times and in every way. The Lord be with all of you.

When you really look at it, it’s amazing how consistent the New Testament’s teachings are. When it comes to the topic of peace, there isn’t a lot of question about what Paul believed. Even in this brief sign off, he hopes that the Lord of peace would give the Thessalonians peace. This is completely compatible with everything Paul ever said about the topic. The peace Christians experience comes from the Prince of Peace. It’s His to give, and we just need to lean into it.

Ways To Find God’s Peace In A Difficult Situation

Ever since I was a little girl, I have loved the hymn It Is Well. There was something about those lyrics that brought a sense of peace whenever I sang them: When peace like a river, attendeth my way It is well, it is well, with my soul.

Horatio G. Spafford, the man who penned that hymn, experienced profound tragedy with the death of his son to sickness, the loss of most of his real estate investments in the Great Chicago Fire, and then later the news that all four of his daughters had perished at sea in a ship wreck.

How did Horatio find peace in the face of so much tragedy?

He was rooted in his faith and he understood peace in his soul.

I only began to understand this in the midst of my own tragedy in 2014 when my husband was diagnosed with stage four cancer at age 40. Though we were often gripped with fear and uncertainty, God continued to give us surprising peace in the midst of our storm.

Peace is certainly not a formula or a 5-step process, but here are some specific ways we found peace in our situation:

    Start by defining peace.

We often think of the word peace as the absence of fighting and chaos. Jesus gave peace as a gift to us in the midst of turbulent situations. His definition of peace was different from world peace. He cared most deeply about peace in our hearts.

Jesus says, Peace I leave with you. My peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Dont let your heart be troubled or fearful.John 14:27 CSB
