Sent On The Mission Of Christ

The sacraments celebrated by the Church are signs of grace that make a deeper reality present to us. One reality we encounter through the sacraments is Christs presence in the Church community, his Body. This recognition of Christs presence in the community should lead to a stronger awareness of being sent on a mission to engage in love-inspired action in the world.-Sacraments and Social Mission, Living the Gospel. • Account of East Syriac bishops

In 1504, Mar Yaballaha, Mar Denha, and Mar Thoma, the four East Syriac bishops consecrated for India by the Catholicos-Patriarch, mentions the Christian community of Palur in a letter addressed to the Catholicos-Patriarch.

The countries of India are very numerous and powerful and their distance is about six months journey. Each country has a special name by which it is known, and our country in which the Christians are found is called Malabar. It has about twenty towns, out of which three are renowned and powerful Karangol , Pallur, and Kullam , with others that are near them.

Archdeacon Giwargis of Christ was selected as the suffragan and coadjutor of in the diocesan synod of Angamaly.Following this, the Chaldean Catholic Patriarch, by a patriarchal decree dated 25 August 1566, appointed Giwargis of Christ as the Bishop of Palur and suffragan to Archbishop Mar Abraham of the Indian ecclesiastical province.

In 1578 Mar Abraham wrote a letter to Pope Gregory XIII, requesting papal confirmation for the appointment of his archdeacon as the bishop of Palur and as his successor. The letter is dated 2 January 1578.

By the letter dated 3 January 1579, Pope Gregory XIII confirmed Giwargis of Christ as the administrator of the Archdiocese of Angamaly, in case of vacancy through the death of the Metropolitan Mar Abraham. On 4 March 1580, the pope confirmed his appointment as the Bishop of Palur and coadjutor of the Archbishop of Angamaly, Mar Abraham.

    Make a Prayer Corner

Having a dedicated prayer space in your home helps us to call on Jesus and be thankful for all he does for us.

Here are some tips on how to create a prayer corner within your home:

Pick a quiet spot away from the main traffic areas of your home.

Place a chair or kneeler in your prayer corner.

Place a Bible or other spiritual reading, a Rosary, and a journal on a side table next to your chair or kneeler.

Place a lamp on your side table for soft lighting.

Surround yourself with holy images or religious art created by the kids.

Ask your parish priest or deacon to bless your house and specifically your prayer corner!

    Use it daily!

    About St Theresa Memorial Park

July 3, 2022, 10:00 a.m. Mass., Fourteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time
    • We are not a perfect community we are not saints, but we are trying to be faithful to the words of St. John the Evangelist:

“Let us love one another because love comes from God.”

We are building on a tradition here at St. Theresa that was started over fifty years ago. Many have gone before us, priests and people. Many, please God will come after us. In a sense, we are treading on holy ground, holy because of the sacrifices that were made by so many in the early days of the parish to first build a parish. The first community met at the school on Durford Street to celebrate mass before the gym was erected. The church came a little later. Much of life has been celebrated there, the birth of new babies baptized into the church, couples falling in love, and sealing that love in the sacrament of marriage. It has been a place of tears, people struggling with illness and impending death, experiencing relationships that break down and feel abandoned and isolated. Together we continue to worship a God of love made visible in Jesus. Together we are the people of God, called to be a church here in this place and to make Jesus known, especially to the brokenhearted and those in need. Together we strive to carry one anothers burdens to work through the darkness of Good Friday to the joy of Easter Sunday.

To Confer The Grace That It Signifies

The outward sign represents an inward grace that is effected. Jesus took natural experiences and by the power of the Holy Spirit super-naturalized them. He used common elements whose effects we can understand and used them to give us a share in his divine nature. For example:Water and Baptism. Without water there is no earthly life Without Baptism there is no eternal life. Water is used to clean the body in Baptism water is used to clean the soul.NB:The power and depth of a particular Sacrament does not end with the natural analogy. Greetings

St. Theresa Parish is located in Ashburn, Virginia which is approximately thirty-five miles west of Washington, D.C. We are part of the Arlington Diocese. The parish was started in 1991 by Monsignor James W. McMurtrie. For the first several years Mass was held at the local high school. In 1994, St. Theresa School was open and Mass had been held every day in the schools multi purpose room. Monsignor McMurtrie named the parish for St. Theresa of Lisieux. Theresa was also his mothers name who raised him and his three other siblings alone after their father passed away when they were teenagers.

Father Richard M. Guest became Pastor in 2002-2020. He oversaw the task of building the new church. A ground breaking ceremony was held on September 30, 2007, and building began in April of 2008. The dedication of the new church was held on November 11, 2009. Since then the parish and school office building project that included an adoration chapel has been completed along with a new rectory. We are very grateful for all that was accomplished during Fr. Guests 18 years here.

On July 16, 2020, Father James C. Hudgins became our new pastor. We welcome Fr. Hudgins and pray God blesses him abundantly in his work here at our parish!
