The Importance Of Harmony And Peace

Serenity Prayer – What is Serenity? Meaning (SERENITY PRAYER SERIES)

Peace is precious and necessary in your lives. Seeing the special number 22 also reflects your need for peace and quiet. You may be under a very busy and hectic schedule or experiencing a lot of disturbances and troubles.

But because of your harmonious spirit, these negative conditions will soon go away and leave you in peace. Remember that you have the power to change negative thoughts and emotions into positive ones. Because of this, you should not remain enslaved to your negative feelings, thoughts, and mindsets.

Meditate And Listen To Your Inner Self

Because of the business of our lives and the resulting anxieties it causes, we sometimes forget that we have to be still and release the negative energies that engulf us.

Angel number 22 is a number of encouragement that prompts us to listen to our inner voice. Angel numbers may be implanted by the Holy Spirit or the angels for us to draw on to enable us to achieve wisdom and rational thinking in pursuing our mundane lives. In this case, the number suggests that we have to meditate and trust ourselves in our judgment and decisions.

Serenity Prayer Principles In The Bible

The Serenity Prayer is a petition to God asking for calmness and peace in all matters of life. It asks for strength and courage to alter the matters within a persons control and for acceptance in matters which cannot be changed. Ultimately, the prayer requests the ability to identify which circumstances are amenable to change.

1. God directs us.

Proverbs 20:24 teaches us, A persons steps are directed by the LORD. How then can anyone understand their own way?

Gods righteousness and providence control a persons paths, steps, and directions. The believer must accept His direction and influence before inner-calmness and peace can be experienced.

2. There are some things we cannot change.

Titus 3:9 teaches us to avoid foolish questions, and genealogies, and contentions, and strivings about the law for they are unprofitable and vain.

Man does not have the ability to change his family tree, science, or factual history. Debating and questioning factual matters are of no helpful consequence and only results in confusion and unrest.

3. We need Gods help to discern wisely.

In Matthew 16:3, it is written, nd in the morning, Today it will be stormy, for the sky is red and overcast. You know how to interpret the appearance of the sky, but you cannot interpret the signs of the times.

4. The power to overcome sin comes from God.

5. We must surrender to Gods good ways, not continue in our sinful ways.

The Serenity Prayer: Its Origin And Meaning

The timeless Serenity Prayer is a plea for comfort, strength, and wisdom in a turbulent world.

We often hear the phrase surrender to God in different contexts and different situations. While this may sound cliché and one of those easy to say but hard to do facts of life, there is truth and wisdom in it. We do not have control over or power over a lot of matters in this world. And oftentimes, trouble comes when we fail to recognize and accept this.

This is the reason why the Serenity Prayer has resonated with a lot of people to a great extent from the time it was written. Let us study together what the Serenity Prayer means and how we can apply it in our lives.

Origin Of The Serenity Prayer

Pin on Scriptures

Dr. Reinhold Niebuhr is universally attributed as the author of what we know as The Serenity Prayer. Its dissemination was likely from a diary excerpt from Niebuhrs student and collaborator Winnifred Crane Wygal. Wygal placed the prayer in newspaper articles as early as the 1930s and then, in a somewhat altered form, in a book of worship in 1940.

Over the years, different versions of the prayer have been published. The Serenity Prayer can be found in either the common shortened form or the longer, full version with portions of language altered. The most popular version is as follows:

Acceptance Is The Key To Happiness

Many people think that if they accept a situation in their life it means that they arent trying their best to make it better. Its not true, and I will tell you why. There are situations where you cannot do anything. Even if you want to, even if you look for a solution.

There are things you just have to accept the way they are. You have no power to change them. Its not about you, its just about the nature of the situation. The serenity prayer will show you that I am right, hence you have to stop worrying so much.

Acceptance Refers To Taking What Is Offered

Another characteristic of addiction is denial refusing to believe what is plainly evident. Denial is an extension of our own stubborn egos a futile attempt to reject what IS to chase after what we DESIRE. In recovery, an example of this would be trying to control our consumption of drugs or alcohol when the very definition of addiction is that we have no such power. Acceptance, on the other hand, means making the best of what we have. It means realizing the reality of what life has given us genes predisposed to addiction, a difficult childhood, everyday stress, etc. and still working with what we have been given to live the best life we possibly can.

What Does A Life With Serenity Look Like

Sermon: “Cultivating Peace” from Matthew 5:9 | Peace in the Bible

Though we live different lives with varying jobs, family structures, and depths of faith, the serenity we envision is all the same. Were each chasing an end result of calmness throughout every aspect of life. What we also discover is that we chase after serenity multiple times in life. In fact, were always seeking serenity. If worldly peace is momentary, godly peace appears the same. However, the two are different.

Serenity doesnt have to be temporary, but often is because of our sin, specifically the sin of doubt and worry. The loss of a job can knock us off-balance, or the ending of a meaningful relationship. When our serenity is disrupted, we try again to find it, even if not immediately. When we do achieve serenity in our lives, we find ourselves at ease within our relationships. People that made us happy, suddenly help us experience joy – a longer sustained happiness. We feel more grateful for their presence, conversations, and gifts.

When we work, jobs that brought satisfaction bring even more. Occupations that felt like a burden are now manageable. You may even find yourself going into work with a smile, greeting those coworkers who have an animus towards you. In school, serenity brings mental clarity when tackling homework, projects, and class presentations. Where the feeling of being overwhelmed once bogged you down, now you can handle one task at a time with precision.

Why Is The Prayer Of St Francis Connected With The Serenity Prayer

There is no connection between them. This is the truth. Their only thing in common is the fact that both of them speak about peace, but the serenity prayer full version is the only serenity prayer that has really helped a lot of people. Im not saying that the prayer of St. Francis is not good. All prayers are good and help us in their own way. But the real serenity prayer is the one written by Reinhold Niebuhr.

Wisdom Refers To Learning From Your Mistakes

Addiction can be likened to a form of insanity. Some people define insanity as doing the same thing again and again, yet expecting different results. For example, you may tell yourself for the umpteenth time that THIS time its going to be different youre only going to have a few beers instead of getting drunk or youre only going to get high on the weekendsor you REALLY mean it this time youre just going to muster your willpower and quit. All the things youve said before. Wisdom, on the other hand, means recognizing when something doesnt work and being willing to try something else. It means putting our ego and stubbornness aside in order to reach our goals. Wisdom in recovery can be as simple as understanding that our old behaviors and attitudes tend to get us in trouble, so instead of doing what WE think is right, we take the advice of our doctors, therapists, or sponsors.

What Does The Bible Say About Serenity

Peace I leave with you. My peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Dont let your heart be troubled or fearful.

The word serenity does not appear in most English translations of Scripture today. However, the idea of serenity is expressed, and we find that through another word, peace. The Bible talks a great deal about peace and how to achieve it. In these descriptions, an important distinction is made. There are two different types of peace.

The first type is not what Jesus offers but is a kind of peace that we all know, worldly peace. Its brief, circumstantial, and at best, a great distraction. Think of countries that make peace so long as they garner monetary benefits or a man who feels the effects of a stressful job but finds peace through video gaming. Remove the money, and suddenly the countries are in conflict. Remove the games, and the man has to face his troubles.

This sort of peace is not automatically wrong. Citizens benefit from countries not being at war because people get to live instead of dying in war. Likewise, the man can de-stress by playing a video game, but he will still have to tackle the stressor eventually. Worldly peace becomes detrimental when we live by it instead of seeking the peace God offers.

So if we attain this serenity in our lives, what would that look like?

Gives You The Courage To Build A New Life

The prayer of serenity not only helps you to find your peace but gives you the courage to build a new life. It gives you the courage to start again from nothing. I have heard about many simple people that wanted to get out of a toxic relationship but didnt have the courage to do it.

I have heard about businessmen that failed in their first businesses and didnt have the courage to start again in another business. I talked to them and I told them about the prayer of serenity. They prayed to God and they found the courage to start again. And they succeeded.

Only because they had faith. So this is my advice to you: have faith, pray to God, and let Him come into your life to guide your path to serenity. Only the original serenity prayer can help you.

Living One Day At A Time

    #8 Peacefulness and Gentleness

Living one day at a time, Enjoying one moment at a time

Therefore, do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own. Matthew 6:34 NIV.

Making plans for tomorrow and beyond is sensible, worrying about it is not.

I tend to multiply worries into lots of what ifs that stem from fear. Jesus reminds us it is important to live one day at a time. Its not wrong to remember the past or look forward to whats ahead in our lives, but He wants us to concentrate on living each day with Him at the helm.

Accepting hardship as a pathway to peace, Taking, as Jesus did, This sinful world as it is, Not as I would have it

Accepting the difficult things in life is hard. Havent we all asked, Why God? But hardship is inevitable and sometimes out of our control.

But Paul reminds us-We also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance perseverance, character, and character, hope. Romans 5:4 NIV.

Hardships and challenges arent meant to discourage or defeat us.

They can help us grow and strengthen our character if we let them. It may not be pleasant, but they can deepen our trust in God and give us confidence when the next hardship rolls around. Hardships can be a path to peace when we trust in His sovereignty, love, and promises.

God Grant Me The Serenity To Accept The Things I Cannot Change

As the prayer acknowledges, when life feels out of control, its easy to try to work harder at controlling everything and everyone around us! Some of us do the opposite: throw our hands up and give up on the situation or person. Whichever extreme you go to, peace and serenity continue to move further from your life.

Accepting and submitting to Gods control and plan for your life is the only way to find peace in situations you cannot control or change. We may not always know Gods plan but we can let go of trying to orchestrate and manipulate events and people and let God work through us. God promises a transcendent peace when we bring our worries and concerns to Him in prayer.

“And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus” – Philippians 4:7

Be still and know that I am God! – Psalms 46:10

Accept The Things I Cannot Change

For I know the plans I have for you, declares the lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Jeremiah 29:11 NIV.

Accepting Gods plan is the only way to find peace when we find ourselves in situations that are out of our control and unable to change. Trusting God to do His work in our lives will bring serenity.

Where Is The Serenity Prayer In The Bible

We wont find the Serenity prayer in the Bible, but we can find many Bible verses which uphold its essence. Lets look at a few

One which comes to mind is Philippians 4:6-7.

Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

When worries and concerns invade your thoughts, practice immediately turning them into prayers. Then, Paul says, our hearts and minds will be guarded by Gods peace!
