The sons of Israel said to them, Would that we had died by the Lords hand in the land of Egypt, when we sat by the pots of meat, when we ate bread to the full for you have brought us out into this wilderness to kill this whole assembly with hunger.
The rabble who were among them had greedy desires and also the sons of Israel wept again and said, Who will give us meat to eat?We remember the fish which we used to eat free in Egypt, the cucumbers and the melons and the leeks and the onions and the garlic,
Therefore in that day the Lord God of hosts called you to weeping, to wailing,To shaving the head and to wearing sackcloth.Instead, there is gaiety and gladness,Killing of cattle and slaughtering of sheep,Eating of meat and drinking of wine:Let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we may die.
Wisdom has built her house,She has hewn out her seven pillars She has prepared her food, she has mixed her wine She has also set her table She has sent out her maidens, she callsFrom the tops of the heights of the city:Whoever is naive, let him turn in here!To him who lacks understanding she says,Come, eat of my foodAnd drink of the wine I have mixed.Forsake your folly and live,And proceed in the way of understanding.
Christians Should Not Cause Their Brother To Stumble
Another thing to think about is that Jesus wants us to love others more than ourselves. That means that if eating meat makes my brother or sister in Christ stumble, then I wont do it.
So then, let us pursue what promotes peace and what builds up one another. Do not tear down Gods work because of food. Everything is clean, but it is wrong to make someone fall by what he eats. It is a good thing not to eat meat, or drink wine, or do anything that makes your brother or sister stumble.
Romans 14:19-21 CSB
In our culture today, its hard to imagine how eating meat could be a stumbling block for someone. I didnt think it could be until I heard a missionarys story from Southeast Asia.
This missionary woman lived among a large Muslim population, and because of their religion, her Muslim friends didnt eat certain types of meat and thought it was unclean.
This didnt seem like a big deal until this missionary realized that her Muslim friends wouldnt even come into her home if they knew she had prepared fatty meats in it.
In order to love her Muslim friends well and not cause a stumbling block to them or to the gospel message, my missionary friend lay aside her own cravings and stopped eating meat as a way to love the people around her and invite them into her home.
Its important to live out the gospel so that others will see the light we have and come to know Jesus. If abstaining from eating meat will help that process, then its worth it.
Does The Bible Say Not To Eat Meat
Its not a sin to consume meat according to the Scriptures and there are plenty of verses that support this.
False teachings and religions such as Islam teach that certain foods are unclean , implying that they somewhat defile the one who consumes them.
Not so fast though the Living Word of God i.e. the Bible says otherwise.
One of the best examples comes from the Gospel according to Mark, where Jesus Himself tells us that its not what we eat that defiles us:
And he said to them, Then are you also without understanding? Do you not see that whatever goes into a person from outside cannot defile him, since it enters not his heart but his stomach, and is expelled?
Note that Jesus declared ALL foods clean. Not just some, but ALL types of foods obviously including meat.
And if you want even more undeniable proof that the Bible doesnt forbid consuming meat, we have to go to the Old Testament and Genesis 9:3.
Here the Lord Himself tells Noah and his family that every moving thing thats living can be used as food for them.
However, dont assume that this includes eating human flesh as permissible by God in His Living Word. Cannibalism is regarded as a horrible curse in the Bible .
Using every living thing that moves refers to the animal kingdom, not human beings. And the context of Genesis 9:2-3 confirms that God is giving man only the animals to eat. Not fellow humans.
You have to remember that the Bible regards humans and animals as separate and distinct species .

Debate Over Ceremonial Cleansing
Another often-misunderstood passage is And he said to them, Are you so without understanding also? Do you not perceive, that whatever thing from without enters into the man, it cannot defile him Because it enters not into his heart, but into the belly, and goes out into the draught, purging all meats?American King James Version×was unwashed hands, not which meats could be eaten. The purification of food referred to the way the body’s digestive process eliminates minor impurities such as those that might be present from eating with unwashed hands.
The Pharisees, like Jesus and His disciples, ate only meat the Scriptures specified as clean. They objected, however, when Jesus and His disciples did not go through the Pharisees’ customary ritual of meticulously washing their hands before eating.
Jesus, whose hands were sufficiently clean for eating, even if not clean enough to meet the Pharisees’ humanly devised standardsexplained that the human body was designed to handle any small particles of dust or dirt that might enter it due to handling food with hands that hadn’t been ritually washed. He further suggested that, if the Pharisees were serious about wanting to obey God, they needed to revise their priorities. Cleansing one’s thoughts, He said, is eminently more spiritually important than washing one’s hands .
What Are Religious Dietary Restrictions
Within Leviticus, appears one of the most well known Bible verses about diet. Here, it says that animals with cloven hooves are not part of our diets because it is considered unclean.
Why do some people still choose to eat meat like pork?
These dietary restrictions, including the ones mentioned in Leviticus, are contextual for Biblical times. People in ancient times did not have the same access to hygiene, running water and other supplies and it was much more difficult to control, for example, infections amongst hooved animals.
There are more references to animals in the Bible that people did not eat. Wild goes, ibexes, antelopes and sheep. Today, Christians can and do eat sheep all the time and it has no negative impact on their faith.
If these references are taken into historical context for the Bible, there are very few actual dietary restrictions and nowhere does the Bible prohibit us eating meat.

Jesus makes it clear through Peters vision that He didnt come to change peoples cultures or diets, He came to change hearts.
The next day, as they were traveling and nearing the city, Peter went up to pray on the roof about noon. He became hungry and wanted to eat, but while they were preparing something, he fell into a trance.
He saw heaven opened and an object that resembled a large sheet coming down, being lowered by its four corners to the earth. In it were all the four-footed animals and reptiles of the earth, and the birds of the sky. A voice said to him, Get up, Peter kill and eat.
No, Lord! Peter said. For I have never eaten anything impure and ritually unclean.
Again, a second time, the voice said to him, What God has made clean, do not call impure.
Acts 10:9-15 CSB
God wanted people to recognize that they needed to be clean and holy before them. Meat was one ways he demonstrated that in the Old Testament. Now that we are made clean through Jesus crucifixion, we no longer have to worry about being made unclean by meat.

What Does The Bible Say About Eating Meat Is It A Sin
Estimated reading time: 7½ minutes
In the book of Genesis, which tells of the Creation of Man, God specifically tells Adam and Eve of the foods he had provided for them to eat:
I give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the whole earth and every tree that has fruit with seed in it. They will be yours for food. And to all the beasts of the earth and all the birds in the sky and all the creatures that move along the groundeverything that has the breath of life in itI give every green plant for food.
The Garden of Eden was vegan.
Only after the Fall did sin enter the world, and then everything changed. After the flood, God told Noah:
The fear and dread of you will fall on all the beasts of the earth, and on all the birds in the sky, on every creature that moves along the ground, and on all the fish in the sea they are given into your hands. Everything that lives and moves about will be food for you.
So, what does that mean for our relationship with animals and what we choose to eat?

Which Animals Does The Bible Designate As ‘clean’ And ‘unclean’
God reveals which animals – including fish and birds – are suitable and unsuitable for human consumption in Leviticus 11 and Deuteronomy 14. Although the lists aren’t exhaustive, He reveals guidelines for recognizing animals that are acceptable for food.
God states that cud-chewing animals with split hooves can be eaten . These specifically include the cattle, sheep, goat, deer and gazelle families . He also lists such animals as camels, rabbits and pigs as being unclean, or unfit to eat . He later lists such “creeping things” as moles, mice and lizards as unfit to eat , as well as four-footed animals with paws as unclean .
He tells us that salt- and freshwater fish with fins and scales may be eaten , but water creatures without those characteristics should not be eaten.
God also lists birds and other flying creatures that are unclean for consumption . He identifies carrion eaters and birds of prey as unclean, plus ostriches, storks, herons and bats.
Birds such as chickens, turkeys and pheasants are not on the unclean list and therefore can be eaten. Insects, with the exception of locusts, crickets and grasshoppers, are listed as unclean .
Why does God identify some animals as suitable for human consumption and others as unsuitable? God didn’t give laws to arbitrarily assert control over humans. He gave His laws “that it might be well” with those who seek to obey Him .
