How To Enter Into A Full Surrender With The Lord

What does surrender look like according to the Bible

Before you really enter into this full surrender with the Lord, you really need to think about this and really chew on the ramifications that making this full surrender will entail. This will be the most life-altering decision that you will ever make in this life. If you turn your life over to the Lord for Him to completely handle your life will take a completely different course as versus the one your life would take if you would decide to control your own destiny and call all of your own shots.

Once you make this full surrender with the Lord, there is no turning back, no matter what hell, life, or the devil may try and throw your way. You can obviously always bail out on God anytime you want to, as He will never force you to stay loyal to Him and fully serve Him. You are free to go anytime you want.

However, once you have the knowledge of what this full surrender is really all about, and then you decide to embark on this adventure with God, and you then you bail out on Him 10-20 years down the road God is going to judge you much more severely when you die and cross over to face Him for your own personal judgment as versus another Christian who really did not have much knowledge on this part of the walk with Him.

To whom much is given, much more will be expected!

The Bible says that faith without any type of works will be dead.

This is a full surrender to the death!

Here is the verse from Paul that is specifically telling us to do this:

Bible Verses About Surrender

Commit your way to the Lord,Trust also in Him, and He will do it.

But if you will not go out to the officers of the king of Babylon, then this city will be given over to the hand of the Chaldeans and they will burn it with fire, and you yourself will not escape from their hand.

Commit your works to the LordAnd your plans will be established.

Yield now and be at peace with Him Thereby good will come to you.

Moreover, the Lord made it known to me and I knew it Then You showed me their deeds.

Raise your battle cry against her on every side! She has given herself up, her pillars have fallen,Her walls have been torn down. For this is the vengeance of the Lord:Take vengeance on her

And rend your heart and not your garments. Now return to the Lord your God,For He is gracious and compassionate,Slow to anger, abounding in lovingkindnessAnd relenting of evil.

Do not deliver me over to the desire of my adversaries,For false witnesses have risen against me,And such as breathe out violence.

Then Jeremiah said to Zedekiah, Thus says the Lord God of hosts, the God of Israel, If you will indeed go out to the officers of the king of Babylon, then you will live, this city will not be burned with fire, and you and your household will survive.

If anyone fiercely assails you it will not be from Me.Whoever assails you will fall because of you.

If you would direct your heart rightAnd spread out your hand to Him,

Why Our Sinful Nature Makes Surrendering A Challenge

God knew that we could not be left to live and love on our own. Look what happened in the Garden of Eden with Adam and Eve. Things didnt start off so well there, did they? But, when sin was birthed into the worldit didnt end there. We continued to be fall short throughout scripture and today, we are no different than the human beings that walked with Jesus 2000 years ago.

-We are full of SIN

-We are selfish

-We have tunnel vision and cannot see what God can see

-We think a lot of ourselves even though we have limited knowledge and cannot possibly know what God knows

-Our choices are oftentimes shortsighted

-We fall into temptation

-We like immediate gratification the feeling of temporary gain, even at the expense of long term reward

-We dislike discomfort. We try to side step pain and detour around the hard.

-We like our own agendas. We try to avoid interruptions or ignore inconveniences

-We are inpatient people that live in a world with a right now mentality.

-We doubt God when we do not understand

-We question God when life is not lining up the way we hoped it would

What Does It Really Look Like To Surrender To God

March 13, 2019·In: inspiration, life

Just surrender to God.

Im calling this. This is one of those phrases that has the potential to be pure vague church lingo. Its right up there along with, just have faith, and be secure in God, and everything happens for a reason.

Its not that those phrases are meaningless. They have valid points in scripture, and when applied in the right way, they are powerful.

But Ill own it Ive said things like this because I didnt know what else to say to someone in a hard situation. Or to someone at a decision-making point in their lives. I oversimplify something that is actually quite challenging to carry out.

What does it really mean to surrender to God?

Surrender is Simple, But Not Straightforward

The Cambridge-English Dictionary describes it as to stop trying to prevent or control a situation. It even goes so far as to say, to accept defeat .

To me, surrendering to God means to stop fighting for my own agenda, and relinquish my control of the situation. Sometimes that does mean accepting defeat.

But what is easy to define is often hard to actually live out. Giving up trying to control isnt something that comes naturally to me or, I would argue, to our society. Think of all the things we try to have control over our health, our knowledge, our success, other people, our results.

Surrender means letting go of our attempts to control. See? The concept, I get. The reality is a little harder.

The Biggest Secrets to Surrendering

Making The Initial Full Surrender

God wants to help us. Let Him do it but first, surrender ourselves to ...

Father,

In the name of Jesus, I am now willing to place my body, my soul, my spirit, and my entire life into Your hands. I now ask that You place me into Your perfect will for my life. From this moment on, I will choose to stay fully surrendered to You all the days of my life, and will allow You to lead and direct my life in the direction that You will want it to go in.

Thank You Father.

What Does The Bible Say About Surrendering To God

What does the Bible say about surrender? Not only are we told in Scripture to surrender our lives in order to accept the free gift of salvation, but to pursue daily surrender of our sinful, prideful nature. As Christians, we are to submit to the will of God, that which pleases Him, and pursue truth and righteousness above all else. In this pursuit, we may also cast our distress upon God as we

What does surrender mean in the Bible?

To Surrender is to give up the things that may matter most in our lives for Jesus to take first place & the lead- This may not all of the time mean for us to sell off all of our properties and other times it may mean for us to give Jesus all that we own. It is all dependent on the voice of the Holy spirit leading us.

Surrendering To God In Parenting

Parenting in a way that honors Christ requires a great deal of surrender. For moms it start with surrendering to the discomforts and changes of pregnancy. Later it means giving up your sleep, your schedule, and having your way.

To surrender also means giving up our parenting fears, which assume the worst and make us over-protective. Our fearfulness stifles growth and produces fear and frustration in a child.

We are to protect our children, not to serve our own anxieties, but to serve a God who will hold us accountable for the care we give

We dont own our children, we are their stewards for God. In the parable of the talents, Jesus warns us about letting fear drive our stewardship . Proper care requires taking reasonable risks. If we are overprotective, we stand in the way of our children maturing as God intends them to.

Biblical Definition Of Surrender

Surrender All to Jesus – The Bible Says –

Surrender means accepting that the battle has been won not on your terms, and you are willingly giving your life over to the authority of the winning side. It means taking a humble position and embracing what is over how you would have it.

So heres the thing about this surrender we sing about, its not literally in the Bible. Across multiple translations surrender is only used under 20 times and in every case it refers to literal surrender. Here are a few examples from the NIV.

They said to the Ammonites, Tomorrow we will surrender to you, and you can do to us whatever you like. .

If anyone does attack you, it will not be my doing whoever attacks you will surrender to you Isaiah 54:15.

And the only New Testament verse:

He released the man who had been thrown into prison for insurrection and murder, the one they asked for, and surrendered Jesus to their will. Luke 23:25.

So should surrender be a part of our walk of faith? Yes, I believe so.

God Allows Hard Things In Life

Part of the struggle is that God has allowed many hard things into my life. There have been seasons where I questioned if He was even watching as I drowned in trials.

Most of my life has been lived with financial insecurity. As a child, we lived in poverty, never sure how the next meal would come or if we would have a home. As an adult, Ive been a bit of a workaholic trying to avoid that life. I struggle to trust God with our finances.

Abuse, neglect, and rape are a part of my childhood. God allowed those things to happen to me when I was helpless to stop them. As an adult, I struggle to trust God to take care of my children.

What Does It Mean To Surrender To God

Trust

I remember praying about surrendering and the began to speak to me about how its related to trusting Him.

See, when we focus on our problems . We are basically telling God, I need to take care of this. I am the one in control. Im the one who need to fix this. You rely on your earthly strength.

The true reality is that God is the one who needs to be in control. He is our helper and friend, but if we dont turn towards Him and surrender yourself to Him you will not experience His wonder working power in your life.

What you will experience is stress, worry, frustration, anger, and pain. And what a pity. Jesus went through the most horrific sacrifice so we can experience all of Gods freedom.

Honor

So, what does honor have to do with surrender? A lot.

When we surrender all to God, we arent just saying we trust you Lord. But we are also declaring Gods lordship over our lives.

We are saying God I honor you for who you are in my life and willing to give you this person/place/thing.

These things can become idols in our life, but surrendering to God dethrones the idols of our heart. And brings Glory and Honor to the true King of Kings.

Surrendering to God dethrones the idols of our heart. And brings glory and honor to the TRUE King of Kings.

The Consequences Of Not Fully Following God

One of the most dramatic examples of one group of people who followed God fully and another group who did not were the Israelites who were tested by God the Father in the desert after being rescued from the Egyptians in the story of Moses.

Near the beginning of the 40 year wilderness experience, they were all getting ready to go into the Promised Land to reap their big reward in God.

However, before they went in, they sent in twelve spies to see what their enemies looked like and what they would encounter once they crossed over to possess the land from some of these evil people. When the spies came back, ten of them came back with a bad report. They said the enemies were too big and that their kingdoms were too well fortified.

Mind you, the Israelites had just seen one of the greatest displays of Gods power that the world has ever seen when He threw 10 whopper plagues at the Pharaoh to set them free.

Yet, just as they were getting ready to cross over into their Promised Land, they started questioning and doubting that God could take these enemies out for them, even though God had just got done delivering them from an entire Egyptian nation several years earlier!

When God sees their lack of faith and belief in Him that He could conquer these lands for them, He threw up His hands and said that was going to be it.

Those are the consequences of not having enough faith and belief in God the Father and not being willing to fully follow Him in this life.

Three Steps Toward Full Assurance

Numbers 14:21

So, what do we do? Live in perpetual doubt and fear of failing in the very thing Jesus requires of us? Whoever loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me, and whoever loves son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me . Its not optional. Have we surrendered the love of father and mother? Have we surrendered the love of son and daughter to the extent that Jesus is loved supremely? What do we do?

Its clear to me, really clear, that the New Testament does not want us to live in such fear. It doesnt want us to lay down our head every night and say, Well, I have no idea whether I was real today or not. I would say three things. Im basically giving you how I fight this battle as I see it laid out in Scripture in three steps.

We Place Conditions On Our Surrender To God

As Christians, I think we pride ourselves on saying we are living a surrendered life. However, it seems like a no brainer when things are going well and life is easy. But, what happens when life misbehaves and things are NOT going according to our plan or when things hurt and we dont understand what God is doing or why?

We find ourselves bargaining with God in exchange for a glimpse into the future a peek around the bend. If Im honest, Ive had conversations with God that sounded something like, God, IF YOU will do x THEN I WILL do y. We place condition after condition on God and our willingness to surrender. Even though I know this is not how God works, I still fall back into the trap.

How Do I Give Up Control

Here are some ways to let go of control and embrace the present moment.

  • Designate specific times to eliminate distractions and just be.
  • Try intuitive writing or painting.
  • Take a leap of faith.
  • Get lost on purpose.
  • Practice surrendering.
  • What makes letting go and letting God difficult?

Well, the real reason why letting go and letting God take control can be difficult is because we dont fully know the character of God We can trust God when times are tough but only up to a point. We run towards God when things are hard but only up to a point.

Speak The Truth Of Full Surrender

What Does the Bible Say About Faith? Matthew 17 :14 Christian Inspiration Bible Study

Say to Jesus, and mean it with as much truthfulness as you can, I love you, Jesus. I love you more than I love anyone. Say it. Say it out loud around people or not around people. Say it out loud: I surrender all other loves as subordinate to you. I ask that if there is any self-deceit in my saying this, you would take it away. At any cost, take it away, and cause me to speak truly and authentically.

Ask your heavenly Father that he would work the miracle of Romans 8:16 in your life.

I say things like that to the Lord regularly. I express my love to him, my allegiance to him, my trust. And then, very honestly, I admit to him that my heart is deceitful, there are hidden faults, and would he please kill in me all that is contrary to my confession of my surrender, and make me pure and truthful. You may be surprised how the verbal, out-loud declaration of your full surrender, full allegiance, and full trust intensifies the very thing you are affirming.

Thats number one: say it out loud, and ask God to kill everything in you contrary to what youre saying.
