A God Commands Us To Control Our Anger

We can accomplish whatever God commands us to do.
God does not command the impossible.
1 Corinthians 10:13 – We do not face any temptation that is beyond our ability to handle, including the temptation to lose our temper. God will make a way of escape.
There is never an excuse for disobeying God. To say we cannot control our temper is to say God is not faithful. What we need to do is to look for the way of escape.
There is no excuse for failing to control our temper. God requires it and will judge us for it.
God’s Wrath Will Be Poured Out One Way Or The Other
Now that we have painted a better picture and hopefully brought better understanding to what is the wrath of God, there is still something hanging in the balance. How does Gods wrath impact you? Earlier I mentioned that God established a principle that sin will result in death. Another way of thinking about it is because of sin, God will have to judge that sin, which is his wrath.
The question remains what do we do with this question of judgement? Even in the pouring out of judgement, God has given us a choice. Let me explain.
Because all sin demands justice and all sin will be judged, God sent Jesus to take all the wrath and judgement of sin on him. God literally took out all his wrath against sin and poured it on Jesus.
But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed. We all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to our own way and the Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all .
Not only did God pour out his wrath, but it was his will and his plan along.
Yet it was the Lords will to crush him and cause him to suffer, and though the Lord makes his life an offering for sin, he will see his offspring and prolong his days, and the will of the Lord will prosper in his hand .
Gods Wrath Is Stored Up
The whole Bible story leads to a day when God will deal with all evil fully, finally, and forever. This will be the day of wrath, when God will recompense every evil and bring to judgment every sin.
God will do this in perfect justice. The punishment for every sin will match the crime. When the judgment is done, every mouth will be stopped because everyone will know that God judged in righteousness and justice. Then God will usher in a new heaven and a new earth, which will be the home of righteousness.

The Spirit And Power Of Elijah
Prior to Johns birth, an angel had told his father, Zacharias, that after he grew up, his son would go in the spirit and power of Elijah, to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children,and the disobedient to the wisdom of the just, to make ready a people prepared for the Lord .
While it is clear that John the Baptist was a fulfillment of this prophecy, the wording in Matthew 17:11-12 and Malachi 4:4-6 allows for the understanding that there could be another prophet or prophets who will come in the same spirit and power of Elijah at the end of this age.

F Work To Solve The Problem That Angered You
This may seem obvious, but most angry people do the opposite. We may say we are trying to solve the problem, but really we are trying to hurt the person who angered us. Instead of attacking the problem, we attack the person.
First determine exactly what happened that angered you.
The issue is not who angered you, but what happened to anger you. Learn to distinguish the act from the person. Hate the sin, but love the sinner. Striking out to hurt the person will not solve the problem. Seek to destroy the bad conduct, while helping the person who committed it.
Note: some problems are not worth being angry over. Learn to distinguish serious problems from imaginary or unimportant ones. If the problem is not worth working on, it isn’t worth being angry over. Forget it and go on. If it’s important enough to make you justifiably angry, then use your anger to work on the problem.
Use your energy constructively to solve the problem.
Anger is a natural reaction intended to prepare the body for action. The question is: what action is proper?
* Blowing up and attacking the person who angered you is the wrong action.
* Blowing up and attacking an innocent bystander is worse.
* Holding a grudge does not solve the problem.
* The only proper way to “be angry and sin not” is to use your natural energy to work on the problem.
Go talk to the person who caused the problem for the purpose of working out a solution.
Speak with genuine concern for others.

Consider some of the word pictures of Gods wrath in the New Testament. And as you consider them, remember the folly of saying, But arent those just symbols? Isnt fire and brimstone just a symbol? I say beware of that because it does not serve your purpose. Suppose fire is a symbol. Do people use symbols of horror because the reality is less horrible or more horrible than the symbols? I dont know of anyone who uses symbolic language for horrible realities when literal language would make it sound more horrible.
People grasp for symbols of horror because the reality they are trying to describe is worse than they can put into words. If I say, My wife is the diamond of my life, I dont want you to say, Oh, he used a symbol of something valuable its only a symbol. So his wife must not be as valuable as a diamond. No. I used the symbol of the most valuable jewel I could think of because my wife is far more precious than jewels. Honest symbols are not used because they go beyond reality, but because reality goes beyond words.
So when the Bible speaks of hell-fire, woe to us if we say, Its only a symbol. If it is a symbol at all, it means the reality is worse than fire, not better. The word fire is used not to make the easy sound terrible, but to make the exceedingly terrible sound something like what it really is.

In the Great Awakening Jonathan Edwards famously preached a sermon entitled Sinners in the Hands of An Angry God. Paul labored to show this truth in the first part of this letter to the Romans. Let me remind you of how he said it: The wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who by their unrighteousness suppress the truth . Wrath does not come without warrant. It is deserved. The truth of God is known . And the truth is suppressed. And the fruit is ungodliness and unrighteousness. And on that comes wrath .

For then how could God judge the world? Nothing was clearer for the inspired apostle than that God is just and God will judge the world in terrible wrath. And lest you think that your sins do not deserve this kind of wrath, ponder these four things:
Worth Getting Angry About
Much of what gets us worked up could be classified as irritants, those time-wasting, ego-bruising nuisances that threaten to make us lose control. But stress is cumulative. Pile up enough of those insults, and we’re ready to explode. If we’re not careful, we can say or do something we’ll be sorry for later.
God counsels patience toward these aggravations. They will never stop, so we need to learn how to handle them:
Be still before the LORD and wait patiently for him do not fret when men succeed in their ways, when they carry out their wicked schemes.
Echoing this Psalm is a Proverb:
Do not say, “I’ll pay you back for this wrong!” Wait for the LORD, and he will deliver you.
There is a hint that something bigger is going on. These annoyances are frustrating, yes, but God is in control. If we truly believe that, we can wait for him to work. We don’t need to jump in, thinking God’s off napping somewhere.
Distinguishing between petty trifles and serious injustice can be difficult, especially when we’re biased because we are the victim. We can blow things out of proportion.
Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.
Patience is not our natural reaction, though. How about revenge? Or holding a grudge? Or shock when God doesn’t immediately zap the other person with a lightning bolt?
