Gods Plan For Marriage

What The Bible Say About…. MARRIAGE – Part 1

Genesis 1:27-28 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him male and female he created them. And God blessed them. And God said to them, Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over every living thing that moves on the earth.

Let marriage be held in honor among all

Genesis 2:21-25So the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon the man, and while he slept took one of his ribs and closed up its place with flesh. And the rib that the LORD God had taken from the man he made into a woman and brought her to the man. Then the man said, This at last is bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man. Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh. And the man and his wife were both naked and were not ashamed.

Malachi 2:14,15 But you say, Why does he not? Because the LORD was witness between you and the wife of your youth, to whom you have been faithless, though she is your companion and your wife by covenant.

1 Corinthians 7:2But because of the temptation to sexual immorality, each man should have his own wife and each woman her own husband.

Hebrews 13:4Let marriage be held in honor among all, and let the marriage bed be undefiled, for God will judge the sexually immoral and adulterous.

What Constitutes Marriage According To The Bible

I know we have many younger people in the church that may be deceived on this subject as well as older people we will look at three separate scenarios to see just what constitutes a marriage according to God. I was deceived many years ago I thought that the lady I was gonna make my wife that in the eyes of God it was ok to live together as well as consummating our intentions before the Lord. Please do not allow anyone to make you believe that sex outside of a legal marriage is ok, because its NOT! The enemy will use this tactic he did on me and I am sure many others. Enjoy the Bible Study.

The Bible nowhere explicitly states at what exact point God considers a couple to be married. There are three common viewpoints:

1) God only considers a couple married when they are legally married.

2) A couple is married in Gods eyes when they have completed some kind of formal wedding ceremony.

3) God considers a couple to be married at the moment they engage in sexual intercourse. Lets look at each of the three views and evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of each.

What if one or more of these principles are not fulfilled? Is such a couple still considered married in Gods eyes? Ultimately, that is between the couple and God. God knows our hearts . God knows the difference between a true marriage covenant and an attempt to justify sexual immorality.

Finally, it must be emphasized that religions, and those who adhere to religious doctrines, may continue to advocate with utmost, sincere conviction that, by divine precepts, same-sex marriage should not be condoned. The First Amendment ensures that religious organizations and persons are given proper protection as they seek to teach the principles that are so fulfilling and so central to their lives and faiths, and to their own deep aspirations to continue the family structure they have long revered.7

Quotes About Christian Marriage

A good marriage must have its foundation in Jesus Christ in order to experience lasting love peace and joy.

I have known many happy marriages, but never a compatible one. The whole aim of marriage is to fight through and survive the instant when incompatibility becomes unquestionable. G.K. Chesterton

A man who will lead you to God and not to sin, is always worth the wait.

If he doesnt fall on his knees in prayer he doesnt deserve to fall on one knee with a ring. A man without God is one I can live without.

Love is friendship set on fire.

Men, youll never be a good groom to your wife unless youre first a good bride to Jesus. Tim Keller

A successful marriage requires falling in love many times always with the same person.

Truths On What The Bible Says About Marriage

With that in mind lets dive into what the Bible says about marriage and see what a Biblical marriage should look like. Heres 7 truths about the Christian marriage.

1. Marriage Is Not Mandatory

We tend to overvalue marriage in Christian circles. We act like everyone should be married and tend to look down on those that are not. Especially in the leadership circles within Christianity. If you arent married you are second class and your voice doesnt matter. At least not as much.

Now, I want to be very careful with this point. I dont want to downplay the importance of marriage and the role it plays in our growth. I know for me I would in no way be who I am or capable of doing what I do without my wife.

However, we should not assume that because some, or even most, benefit from marriage that all benefit. Some people will not and should not experience marriage. God has other plans for them. And thats a good thing to be celebrated. In fact it comes with advantages.

Not being married allows certain freedoms and abilities that those married simply dont have. That should be celebrate AS MUCH as those who are married. Both singleness and marriage are a gift from God.

What does the Bible say about marriage? We should view marriage AND singleness as a gift from God.

2. Marriage Is About Companionship

First and foremost Biblical marriage is about companionship. Marriage is about friendship more than anything else.

3. Marriage Irreversible By Design

7. Sex Is Reserved For Marriage

It Is Supposed To Preach The Gospel

There is something special about human beings particularly human beings as male and female together. The Bibles says:

Then God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the livestock and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth. So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him male and female he created them.

Image and likeness those are very important words.

We sometimes forget that the first people to hear these words in Genesis were most likely the wilderness generation of Hebrews during the time of the 40 year desert wandering. Their cultural frame of reference was Egyptian they had been living inside Egyptian culture for the last 400 years. In Egypt only one person was ever referred to as the image and likeness of God. Pharaoh was tselem and demooth Pharaoh was image and likeness of God. He resembled God and represented God in a way that no one else did.

But here in Genesis 1:26-27 Moses tells the recently liberated Egyptian slave class that they are all each of them male and female the image and likeness of God. They represent him and they resemble in some way that is not true of any other creature.

When people look at you particularly when they look at you as male and female together they are supposed to see something about the beauty, wholeness and vitality of the Living God.

Where Does The Bible Talk About Sex Before Marriage And Can We Eat Pork

I were wondering what verse /book of the bible does it say about no sex before marriage for women, and in the old testament it says do not eat swine, as an anglican i dont here much at all about this verse of the bible and i see a lot of people at church still eating pork

– tania

Youve asked two questions, and well look at them one at a time.

Sex before marriage

In the New Testament, theres the phrase sexual immorality which translates a word meaning ANY sexual activity outside of marriage. This means that sex with anyone that youre not married to is sexual immorality, even if youre engaged to them. It was assumed in both the Old Testament and the New Testament that both men and women would remain virgins until marriage.

In the Old Testament, for example, Genesis 38:24 shows the reaction to the news that a woman has had sex outside of marriage. And Exodus 22:16 shows that a man who has sex with a woman is expected to marry her. This is because the proper place for a sexual relationship is in marriage.

The clearest chapter in the New Testament is 1 Corinthians 7. The only ways to avoid sexual immorality are to abstain from sex as a single person, or to get married and then be faithful to your spouse. Notice in verse 39 that when a Christian has a choice about who to marry , then they should marry a fellow Christian.

Lasting Damage Of Divorce

The American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry says,

Parents should be alert to signs of distress in their child or children. Young children may react to divorce by becoming more aggressive and uncooperative or by withdrawing. Older children may feel deep sadness and loss. Their schoolwork may suffer and behavior problems are common. As teenagers and adults, children of divorce can have trouble with their own relationships and experience problems with self-esteem.6

We must make an effort each and every day to keep our marriages strong and not let them drift toward divorce. We must put aside our anger, forgive our spouse a million times over, always be faithful, subdue our pride and ego, and always let true Christian love guide our actions. Professional counseling may help resolve marital problems before the relationship deteriorates beyond repair.

Striving For A Godly Marriage

The Rabyd Theologian: Marriage and the Bible

Which of these Bible verses about marriage speak to you? If you were to ask a handful of people What is marriage?, you would see that finding a single and true definition is quite the challenge, as there are so many different views and understandings of what exactly constitutes a marriage these days.

These differences occur from person to person for a myriad of different reasons including religious affiliation and the latest culture wars. Over the past few decades the definition of marriage has changed drastically.

But even still, everyone understands that the meaning of marriage is when two people make a commitment to share their lives with each other in a way that is recognized legally, socially and often in a religious context.

So what does the Bible have to say about marriage? For most of us the Bible is a manual on how to live this life God created and designed. There are many Bible verses about marriage and they start right from the very start. In the beginning of scripture, we get an important insight and benefit of the union of male and female on day six of creation.

So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him male and female he created them. And God blessed them. And God said to them, Be fruitful and multiply. Genesis 1:27-28 An important aspect and blessing of marriage is when two become one to produce and multiply as God commanded.

In Conflict We Must Develop Perseverance

In continuing with what Paul and James taught about trials, both taught that trials produce perseverance. Paul then said perseverance produces character and character hope . James said that we should let perseverance finish its work so that we can become mature and complete, not lacking anything . In marital conflict, we must develop perseverance so we can produce the fruits God wants to cultivate in our marriage.

This is difficult because the natural response to trials and conflict is to bail or quit. And thats what many couples do. At some point they say, Thats enough I cant live like this and they quit. Some do this by divorcing, others by distancing themselves emotionally and physically, as they stop working to fix the marriage. However, Scripture teaches us to persevere in trials, which includes conflict. The word means to bear up under a heavy weight. God matures us individually and corporately as we bear up under the heavy weight. He teaches us to trust him more. He helps us develop peace, patience, and joy, regardless of our circumstances. He helps us grow in character as we let perseverance finish its work.

Do you feel like quitting? Hold on, because God has a harvest for you if you dont quit.
