What The Bible Says About Stress And Worry

Worry Leads To Stress

What Jesus Says About Worry And Anxiety

It is impossible to worry about everything in the day without building up stress in our lives, which in turn lowers the immune system and general health, making it even harder to handle things. And not being physically able to keep up with the needs of day only makes stress symptoms worse. It’s a snowball effect.

Many people are prone to finding things to worry about all on their own. Add in parents pressuring for perfect grades or perfect behavior, plus peer pressure to keep up with all the in trends, parties, and opinions, then it’s no wonder that so many people struggle with physical and mental problems stemming from stress.

Bible Verses To Relieve Your Stress And Anxiety

Thanks be to God, Christ is beckoning and inviting us to lay our burdens at his feet. We were never meant to carry everything on our own. He has provided us with ways to approach and manage the stress in our lives by teaching us to abide, shift our perspective, turn our hearts to wonder and worship, rest and care for ourselves and others, and to tell him about our troubles through prayer and petition, imploring him to act on our behalf.

Stop Pretending Youre Happy When Youre Not

Quartz writer Susanna Cornelius, in her article Being told to feel happy is making us miserable details the destructive effects of trying to abide by the social pressures that make us feel like we need to feel happy, all the time:

Depression rates are higher in countries that place a premium on happiness, says social psychologist Brock Bastian. Rather than being the by-product of a life well-lived, feeling happy has become a goal in itself.

Smiling faces beam at us from social media and happiness gurus flog their latest emotional quick fixes, reinforcing the message that we should aim to maximize our positive emotions and avoid our negative ones.

Susanna Cornelius, Quartz

Happiness as a goal is a fallacy, and is at odds with how the Bible describes the path to calmness and joy. Instead of forcing ourselves to smile, God wants us to be honest with everything going on inside of us the good, bad and the ugly.

Oh, what joy for those whose disobedience is forgiven, whose sin is put out of sight! 2Yes, what joy for those whose record the LORD has cleared of guilt, whose lives are lived in complete honesty!

Psalm 32:1-2

It may feel counterintuitive to us who live in this culture of consumption, but taking the time to identify our sins so we can experience mercy from God is the only true way to lasting happiness. Guilt is an incredible amplifier of anxiety clearing it up will pave the way to joy and de-stressing.

Worry Goes Away When We Focus On Him

When we keep our focus where it needs to be, on Jesus, worry has a tendency to melt away.

No one can pray and worry at the same time.- Max Lucado

Matthew 6:33Seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you

Hebrews 12:1-2 Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

Psalm 23:4 Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me your rod and your staff, they comfort me.

Hebrews 13:6 So we can confidently say, The Lord is my helper I will not fear what can man do to me?

Isaiah 43:1-3 But now thus says the LORD, he who created you, O Jacob, he who formed you, O Israel: Fear not, for I have redeemed you I have called you by name, you are mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you when you walk through fire you shall not be burned, and the flame shall not consume you. For I am the LORD your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior.

Bible Verse For Abiding

14 Bible Verses About Anxiety Scriptures For Anxiety and Worries

Jeremiah 17:7-8 But blessed is the one who trusts in the LORD, whose confidence is in him. They will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit.

You were made to abide, to drink deeply from the ever-flowing life that comes from God. Trust in him and stay close to him, and you will stand strong through drought and storm.

Philippians 4:6-7 Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Can it be true that we should be anxious for nothing? This command for Christians turns the worlds logic on its head. Bring your burdens to God and see what He does.

Romans 12:2 “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what Gods will ishis good, pleasing and perfect will.”

The pattern of the world is to be shaped and defined by circumstances. But God invites his people to be shaped deeply by the knowledge of Christs character, renewed day by day so that we might produce good fruit in and out of season, no matter our circumstances.

Luke 21:19 Stand firm, and you will win life.

Lay Down Your Burdens

Before I share my 25 Bible verses for stress and anxiety, it is important to remember that many of our mental and emotional battles are caused by physical triggers. Research has proven beyond a shadow of a doubt that eating a wholesome diet and avoiding harmful chemicals in our water and the air that we breathe can help stop stress and anxiety in its tracks.

Sadly, finding these things is becoming increasingly challenging in our fallen world as toxic chemicals have overtaken our soil and atmosphere. In spite of our efforts to purchase essential products for a healthy home, we still get sick and God is here to bless you with His healing touch when you need it.

Using natural therapies like essential oils for stress and aromatherapy for anxiety often prove to be effective remedies, and making your own DIY anxiety aromatherapy inhaler is a cinch!

But sometimes we need to address the spiritual and emotional root causes of anxiety. This verse in Psalms says, Cast your cares on the Lord and He will sustain you He will never let the righteous be shaken.

It reminds me of how often the stress and anxiety we have in our life is something we place on ourselves. It becomes a burden. One we choose.

In these Bible verses about stress, one thing youll notice is the presence of the Lord. Hes always here for us able and willing to pick up our burdens. The question is, are you willing to let go?

The Lord is a refuge for the oppressed, a stronghold in times of trouble.

~Psalm 9:9

If were honest, weve all been through stressful situations. Weve all struggled with worry, fear, anxiety, and feeling alone to some degree. However, this should not be the norm of a Christian life. Why you ask? We have a God who invites us to give our burdens to Him.

We have a God who reminds us how much we are loved in our trials. I must admit that it is easier said than done, but we have to remember these truths in hard times. Meditate on this for a second. God loves you and His great love for you will see you through any situation.

    Being Anxious Is Easy

What Does the Bible Say About Anxiety? | Wheaton Bible Church

The first part of this verse is easy. It tells us to be anxious. And for me, being anxious is really easy. I dont have to try to be anxious, I can do it naturally. Being anxious is almost like second nature to me. You might have more homework than you have time to do, or you can see all the bad things going on in the world and it can become so easy to be anxious. You might even feel like you have a really good reason to be anxious.

Even if we feel like were justified in being anxious, this Bible verse tells us to be anxious for nothing. How is that even possible? With all the stress in our lives, with all the craziness going on in the world, how can we live our lives not being anxious?
