Were The 10 Commandments Abolished In The New Testament
No, many scriptures in the New Testament show that Jesus and the apostles upheld the 10 Commandments, not as ceremonial legalism or as a way to earn salvation, but as essential laws to govern a Christians life. Many scriptures show that every one of the 10 Commandments is reinforced in the New Testament.
Most people acknowledge that Christians should obey most of the 10 Commandments, including those that prohibit worshipping other gods, murder, stealing, adultery and lyingjust to name a few of the instructions spoken by God to the ancient Israelites from Mount Sinai. It is only the Fourth Commandment to keep the seventh-day Sabbath that some claim is not repeated in the New Testament and therefore is no longer required of Christians.

What Does The 7th Commandment Mean
The Seventh Commandment is a commandment to cherish and honor marriage. The Seventh Commandment also forbids adultery. When you understand what marriage is, then the horror of adultery becomes plain. Adultery defies God. Every time a person commits adultery, he or she openly goes against what God says.

You Shall Not Commit Adultery
Bible reference – Exodus 20:14:You shall not commit adultery.
Explanation: Do we need a greater regard for the sanctity of the home today? Do we need more honest obedience to marriage vows? Do we need more husbands and wives true to each other? What is the answer? You know the answer. It is YES! A thousand times yes!
In Luke 17:30, our Saviour predicted that a Sodom-like moral condition would precede His return to this earth. Now is the time for every Christian home to stand as an example of right living.
Remember, you can’t write SIN in big letters without the law of God. This seventh commandment must stand, or our civilization will go down in disregarding it. Proverbs 14:34 says, Righteousness exalts a nation, But sin is a reproach to any people.
I The Universal Moral Law
This is the Universal Moral Law regarding your relationship with your Creator and with all other people on Earth. This law now applies to all people in all situations.
There are three parts to the Universal Moral Law:
A. THE LAW OF LOVE
“First, love God your Creator more than anything else. Then, love all other people the same as you love yourself.”
“Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment.”
“And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.
B. THE TEN COMMANDMENTS
Throughout the Old Testament, there are hundreds of “commandments” covering all parts of life. Collectively, these make up “the Law” of the Old Covenant.
1. Do not put anything ahead of God your Creator.
2. Do not make or worship idols.
3. Do not take the name of God in vain.
4. Take one day of complete rest each week, in honor of God.
5. Honor your father and your mother.
6. Do not commit murder.
7. Do not commit adultery.
8. Do not steal.
9. Do not tell lies against anyone.
10. Do not covet other people’s possessions.
The Lord Jesus Christ did not specifically restate commandments 2, 3, 4 or 10, but it was understood that He endorsed and followed all of the Ten Commandments.
1 And God spake all these words, saying,
3 Thou shalt have no other gods before me.
13 Thou shalt not kill.

Keep The Sabbath Day Holy
Bible reference – Exodus 20:8-11:Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord your God. In it you shall do no work: you, nor your son, nor your daughter, nor your male servant, nor your female servant, nor your cattle, nor your stranger who is within your gates. For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested the seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and hallowed it.
Explanation: We seem to always be busy and need physical rest and spiritual rest. We need the Sabbath or God would not have made it for us. Jesus said that it was made for man and that He Himself is the Lord of the Sabbath .
The Sabbath is the memorial of His creative work, and it is also a test of mans willingness to recognize his Creators first claim to his time. Wherever we are and whether we regard Gods holy day or not the commandment is still there. Do you recognize and observe it in your home?
Ii The Other Commandments
1. “FORGIVE EVERYBODY OF ALL THEIR OFFENSES AGAINST YOU.” As you forgive other people, God will forgive you.”And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.”
“And when ye stand praying, forgive, if ye have ought against any: that your Father also which in heaven may forgive you your trespasses. But if ye do not forgive, neither will your Father which is in heaven forgive your trespasses.”
2. “YOU MUST BE BORN AGAIN.”
Being “born again” means casting off the spirit of the flesh and taking on the Spirit of God, the Holy Spirit, Who is given by the grace of God to those who believe in Jesus Christ as the only-begotten Son of God, risen from the dead.
“Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again.”
3. “ABIDE IN ME, AND LET ME ABIDE IN YOU.”
When you accept The Lord Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Saviour, His Holy Spirit moves into your heart. He actually lives in you, and you live in Him.
“Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine no more can ye, except ye abide in me.”
4. “LET PEOPLE SEE YOUR GOOD WORKS.”
“Let your light so shine before men, that they may see see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.”
5. “END DISPUTES QUICKLY.”
“Agree with thine adversary quickly, whiles thou art in the way with him lest at any time the adversary deliver thee to the judge, and the judge deliver thee to the officer, and thou be cast into prison.”

What Was The Purpose Of The Ten Commandments
What is the principle behind the Ten Commandments? What do the Ten Commandments mean to you? Are you read to make this personal? The Ten Commandments do not mean anything unless we can invite their meaning into our lives.
There are three reasons why the Ten Commandments in the Bible are given. Every one of these reasons are personal and directed to every one of us.
1. The Ten Commandments were given to identify and expose sin.
What is sin? Is it serious? We tend to minimize sin. We tend to justify sin. We try to make excuses for sin. But the Ten Commandments shows us how to identify sin and remind us of its seriousness.
For until the law sin was in the world, but sin is not imputed when there is no law.
Sin is defined as breaking Gods law . But if there is no law, then there can be no sin. If God has not given us a law to follow, there would be nothing to break.
But then consider a second Bible verse:
What shall we say then? Is the law sin? Certainly not! On the contrary, I would not have known sin except through the law. For I would not have known covetousness unless the law had said, You shall not covet.’
In essence, Paul is telling us that the law identifies sin. He then gives an example. If the Ten Commandments did not say, You shall not covet, then we would not know that covetousness is sin.
2. The Ten Commandments were given to govern Israel until Christ came.
So why do we keep the Ten Commandments today? We dont.

Using Gods Name Improperly
This can be understood to mean cursing or using profanity which includes the name of God.Many languages have expressions of anger or dismay that include the word God. In addition, many times people swear to God to try to convince others they are telling the truth. Another offense might be to say that God told me to do something when He didnt. The actual name of God in the Old Testament was YHWH, sometimes pronounced Yahweh or Jehovah. Pious Jews refrain from using this name or even the word God, for which they substitute G_d. This is to avoid using Gods name in a way that might break this commandment.
Jews honor the Sabbath from sundown on Friday until the appearance of three stars in the sky on Saturday night, the seventh day of the week on the Jewish calendar.
In the New Testament Jesus did things that made the Sabbath command different from the other nine. Jesus seemed to reduce its demands, unlike some other commandments where he made them stronger. Jesus was often criticized for healing on the Sabbath or doing other things. He said that the Sabbath was made for man, and not man for the Sabbath. Doing good on the Sabbath seemed to be praised and practiced by Jesus. In that way he disobeyed some of the strict interpretations that had become common in His day.
