Have you ever thought about reading the Bible but held off because of feelings like those above? For many, reading the Bible seems daunting. But what if you learned that the Bible can help you to have a happier and more satisfying life? And what if you found out that there are some approaches to reading it that can make it more interesting? Would you be willing to take a look at what the Bible can offer you?

Consider just a few comments from those who found it to be rewarding when they started reading the Bible.

Ezekiel, who is in his early 20s, says: In the past, I was like someone who is driving a car without any destination in mind. But reading the Bible has helped me have a meaningful life. It contains practical advice that I can use every day.

Frieda, also in her 20s, explains: I used to be hotheaded. But because of my Bible reading, Ive learned to control myself. This has made me a lot easier to get along with, so I have more friends now.

A woman in her 50s named Eunice says of the Bible, It is helping me to become a better person, to change my not-so-good habits.

The important thing is to get started. What practical tips can make getting started easier and more enjoyable?

Read The Bible: It Contains Power To Overcome

After we have made the firm decision to serve God wholeheartedly and refrain from sinning against Him, we will still experience temptation in our lives. James says that we are tempted when we are drawn away and enticed by our own lusts and desires.

Its clear from Scripture that Satan makes use of these natural lusts and desires. He tries to get us to disobey Gods will, by offering things that appeal to us naturally: honour, riches or self-satisfaction. He even tempted Jesus, trying to get Him to give into egotism, pride and self-seeking.

But, for each temptation Jesus faced, He had a counterattack. And every single counterattack involved Gods Word. Jesus said to him, It is written again, You shall not tempt the Lord your God. And further, He says, Away with you, Satan! For it is written You shall worship the Lord your God, and Him only you shall serve. Matthew 4:1-11.

Do you also have a counterattack for every temptation that you face in life? Do you fill yourself with Gods Holy Word? Paul writes, And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God Ephesians 6:17. The Bible, Gods Word, is a weapon. It is a sword that gives us power and authority to overcome in the midst of temptation. Why not pick up this sword today?

Youll Discover That Some Questions Dont Need To Be Answered

As for those questions that dont seem to have clear-cut, direct answers, may we put them to rest in the knowledge that God alone understands all things and purposes everything according to his foreordained plans. Sections of books like Job, Isaiah, and Romans might lead us to ask, Why? But Scripture would simultaneously challenge us to submit our why? question to the established, known reality of who God is. What an opportunity as we traverse Scripture to humbly submit ourselves to God, who breathed out his Word so that we might know him better and learn to trust him more.

The Right Handling Of Scripture Is Approved By God

Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth.

It is a precious thing to be assigned to do a very important task, and then to find the master worker approving of what hes asked you to do. Were all assigned in some measure to handle the word of God. And what a wonderful opportunity to be pleasing to the Lord.

You Will Mature In The Things Of God

Learning more about Him and his commands will help us mature as believers. While this is similar to the one above, it is distinctly different. One of the benefits of reading scripture is that we mature as we grow in fellowship with Him and learn His commands. We become better equipped at reacting and find peace in the midst of chaos and strife.

for everyone who lives on milk is unskilled in the word of righteousness, since he is a child. But solid food is for the mature, for those who have their powers of discernment trained by constant practice to distinguish good from evil.
