Soar On Wings As Eagles Meaning: His Safety Is In The Sky

One-Minute Inspiration | Wings Like Eagles | Isa 40:31

Any time we encounter a wild animal, it is fascinating to us. Of course, we talked about it for days after while Caleb and Micah told everyone we know about it.

What kept running through my head, however, was the fact that the eagle was not afraid of us. Nor was he afraid of the other large birds who were respectfully waiting their turn.

He was not afraid because he knew who he was. This huge bird knew he was the ruler of the skies. He knew that at the first sign of danger, his strong wings could swiftly carry him to the safety of the sky.

I want to be like that eagle. I long to believe who I am as a child of the Most High. I desire the confidence that I can mount up with wings like eagles at the first sign of danger.

Obviously, this does not mean that we escape danger altogether, it only means that we know where our safety lies.

What does it mean to mount up with wings as eagles? The eagles safety lies in the sky. Ours lies with our creator.

This is not the first time God has used an eagle to show me something. I remember Rebekahs first birthday after her accident. The six of us were gathered at the cemetery.

I was in a dark place. So dark. An eagle flew overhead. I knew God was trying to tell us that He was with us. God is good like that.

How Does Our Faith Compare To Soaring Eagles

The Bible teaches us that we, as believers, can possess the characteristics of an eagle.

If we choose to wait on God and rely on Him as our source of strength as the eagle relies on a wind current, we can conserve our energy by allowing Him to direct our paths, just like the eagle uses wind currents to determine his flight path.

Furthermore, instead of flapping our wings in an attempt to move in our own strength, we can instead stretch out our wings and soar with minimum effort, whilst allowing the Lord to take us to heights greater than we could ever achieve on our own.

God keeps all of the promises He makes to His children, for that is His nature . However, He also gives us free will to choose our own paths at our own cost. This is evident in the first part of Isaiah 40:31, But those who hope in the Lord .

The promise that God makes us in this Bible verse of soaring on wings like eagles, is one that He will fulfill for each and every believer. However, this realization of living a victorious, faith-confident life will only be experienced by those who choose to place their trust in God and wait with hope and assured expectation of the fulfillment of His promises .

Bible Verses About Eagles

They slip by like reed boats,Like an eagle that swoops on its prey.

Saul and Jonathan, beloved and pleasant in their life,And in their death they were not parted They were swifter than eagles,They were stronger than lions.

Is it at your command that the eagle mounts upAnd makes his nest on high?On the cliff he dwells and lodges,Upon the rocky crag, an inaccessible place. From there he spies out food His eyes see it from afar.

As for the terror of you,The arrogance of your heart has deceived you,O you who live in the clefts of the rock,Who occupy the height of the hill.Though you make your nest as high as an eagles,I will bring you down from there, declares the Lord.

Behold, he goes up like clouds,And his chariots like the whirlwind His horses are swifter than eagles.Woe to us, for we are ruined!

Yet those who wait for the LordWill gain new strength They will mount up with wings like eagles,They will run and not get tired,They will walk and not become weary.

When you set your eyes on it, it is gone. For wealth certainly makes itself wingsLike an eagle that flies toward the heavens.

Is it at your command that the eagle mounts upAnd makes his nest on high?

The way of an eagle in the sky,The way of a serpent on a rock,The way of a ship in the middle of the sea,And the way of a man with a maid.

Like an eagle that stirs up its nest,That hovers over its young,He spread His wings and caught them,He carried them on His pinions.

The Historical Context Of Isaiah : 31

Pin on Precious Bible verses 1

The Book of Isaiah is one of the most studied works of the Bible. Its pages record a vast array of information and revelation from the eponymous author: historical accounts of the apostasy of the Israelites, judgment, and prophecies entailing their impending defeat by the Babylonians, as well as their consequential 70-year exile as a punishment for their idolatry and disobedience towards the Lord . Isaiah also prognosticates the birth, ministry, death, and Second Coming of Jesus Christ in this famous book.

Though the tone of the first 39 chapters is strict and dedicated to prophesizing the ill fate of the Jewish people, from Isaiah 40-66, the tone of the prophets narrative changes.

Interestingly, the first noticeable change is the quantum leap in the narrative, where the reader meets up with the Jewish exiles 150 years later during their current captivity in Babylon.

Secondly, the harsh truths of the earlier chapters are now replaced by words of comfort and encouragement and Gods impending absolution, starting with Isaiah 40:1-4:

In Isaiah 40:31, Isaiah is encouraging the exiled Jewish community to believe Gods promises of freedom, and in the meantime, wait until He releases them from their sentence .

However, this form of waiting is not passive it is active . Isaiah urges the Israelites to wait with hope and confident anticipation in spite of their current oppression.

They Shall Mount Up With Wings Like Eagles: How I Got Within Touching Distance

The kids and I were headed to town, everyone buckled into the van and chatting 100 mph. What we needed at the store and what we were having for dinner was in the forefront of my mind.

As we pulled out of our driveway, we noticed large hawks flying over the field. We watched their powerful brown wings circle to the road and back to the field. Then we saw an eagle do the same. Ravens and crows were also circling.

Of course, we had to investigate. We followed the hawks around the corner and there was an eagle at the side of the road pulling away at the flesh of an unfortunate animal.

Its sharp hooked beak and white head expressed who he was. He eyed us as we slowly drove up to him. I rolled down the passenger window so I could get a better look

Hawks and ravens were circling back and forth waiting for their turn at a meal. We watched as the eagle ate. Slowly, without hurrying. He knew the other birds were there, but he clearly did not feel threatened.

Nor did he feel threatened by us.

What Does The Bible Say About Eagles Wings

I didnt realize how many verses in the Bible mention eagles. The only one I was familiar with was the one in Isaiah.

And Moses went up to God, and the Lord called to him from the mountain, saying, Thus you shall say to the house of Jacob, and tell the children of Israel: You have seen what I did to the Egyptians, and how I bore you on eagles wings and brought you to Myself.

How beautiful is the concept of God carrying his people? Isnt that what we need sometimes? To be carried?

He found him in a desert landAnd in the wasteland, a howling wilderness He encircled him, He instructed him, He kept him as the apple of His eye.As an eagle stirs up its nest, Hovers over its young,Spreading out its wings, taking them up, Carrying them on its wings,So the Lord alone led him, And there was no foreign god with him.

God is taking care of His people like an eagle takes care of her young.

Does the hawk fly by your wisdom, And spread its wings toward the south?Does the eagle mount up at your command, And make its nest on high?

God is talking to Job here and expressing who He is as God Almighty.

Why The Imagery Of Eagles

What Does It Mean to “Mount Up with Wings like Eagles?” (Isaiah 40:31)

Why does Isaiah use the analogy on a soaring eagle to bolster the Israelites faith? The depiction of an eagle is an evident teaching tool in the Bible.

In order to understand Gods comparison of our faith walk to the flight of an eagle, we need to first understand some underlying characteristics of this feathered creature.

  • Eagles are born with large, heavy wings. However, unlike other birds, who flap their wings in order to stay in the air, eagles stretch out their wings and hold them still for the purpose of soaring.
  • In order to become airborne, an eagle waits for large atmospheric gusts of winds called wind thermals. Sometimes, an eagle will perch and wait for days to catch a wind thermal that can carry it.
  • Storms provide excellent wind thermals hence an eagle will deliberately seek out a storm, rather than avoid it. It knows that by enduring the temporary atmospheric adversity, it will be projected to clear, peaceful skies above.
  • If an eagle flaps its wings unnecessarily during flight, the excessive use of energy can cause them to die.

those who wait on the Lord.

What does it mean to wait upon the Lord? I believe it means to put your trust in Him and allow Him to lead your life.

Have you not known? Have you not heard? The everlasting God, the Lord, The Creator of the ends of the earth,Neither faints nor is weary. His understanding is unsearchable. He gives power to the weak,And to those who have no might He increases strength.Even the youths shall faint and be weary,And the young men shall utterly fall,But those who wait on the LordShall renew their strength They shall mount up with wings like eagles,They shall run and not be weary, They shall walk and not faint.

It is tempting to push through life on our own. We make our own decisions based on what is in front of our faces. We struggle with sin and powers of darkness. We try to be good people and treat others as we want to be treated.

But we struggle in vain. We are not meant to carry the weight of our lives by ourselves. Jesus said,

Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.

What We Can Learn

Having âwings as eaglesâ helps us:

Rise toward the heavens. When we âwait upon the Lordâ by patiently trusting in Him and keeping our covenants, He blesses us with His divine help. In His strength we are lifted up so that we can receive âpeace in this world, and eternal life in the world to comeâ .

Move away from the earth. When we turn to the Lord, obey His commandments, and keep our covenants with Him, we separate ourselves from the world. We are less weighed down or heavy laden and are able to obtain a higher and more advantageous perspectiveâan eternal perspective. God blesses us with the Holy Ghost, and we feel our spirits rise above the trifling concerns of worldly living.

Find nourishment. Just as eaglesâ ability to soar on their wings can help them use their eyesight to receive their nourishment, we receive spiritual nourishment as we keep our covenants and stay alert to the things of the Spirit. We see this truth particularly in the ordinance of the sacrament as we partake of bread and water and renew the baptismal covenant.

Sanctifying Renewal

âI know that in times of fear or fatigue, âthey that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength they shall mount up with wings as eagles they shall run, and not be weary and they shall walk, and not faintâ .

Elder Jeffrey R. Holland of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, âThe Peaceable Things of the Kingdom,â Ensign, Nov. 1996, 84.
