The Jewish Leaders Recognized Jesus Claim To Divinity

Does the Bible Say Jesus Is God?

One of the clearest evidences of the deity of Jesus is the Jewish leaders reaction to Jesus words and actions. In Mark 2, Jesus not only heals a paralytic but also forgives his sins . This is the reason that the scribes cry blasphemy, for it is God alone who can forgive sins .19

In his trial before the Sanhedrin Jesus is once again charged with blasphemy because of his response to the high priests question: Are you the Christ, the Son of the Blessed? Jesus responded, I am, and you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of Power, and coming with the clouds of heaven . Then the high priest tore his clothes, charged Jesus with blasphemy, and condemned him to death . Why did the high priest respond that way? Because Jesus quoted from Psalm 110:1 and Daniel 7:1314 and applied the words to himself. In Daniel 7 the divine Son of Man comes before the Ancient of Days, and all peoples and nations serve20 him. The Pharisees recognize Jesus divine claim here and charge him with blasphemy, intending to put him to death.

Jesus Claimed To Be God Verses

6. John 10:33 We are not stoning you for any good work, they replied, but for blasphemy, because you, a mere man, claim to be God.

7. John 5:18 This was why the Jews were seeking all the more to kill him, because not only was he breaking the Sabbath, but he was even calling God his own Father, making himself equal with God.

Jesus Cant Do Anything Of His Own

If he says that he cant do anything of his own, how was he able to do great signs and wonders? Because God did all these things THROUGH him:

I can of mine own self do nothing: as I hear, I judge: and my judgment is just because I seek not mine own will, but the will of the Father which hath sent me.

Jesus Is Creator Not Creature

Jehovahs Witnesses believe Pauls statement in Colossians 1:15 that the firstborn of all creation teaches that Jesus was a created being. However, the Jehovahs Witnesses teaching resembles the view of the ancient Colossian heresy that Paul had to combat.

The Colossian false teachers advocated the idea that Jesus was the first of many other created mediators between God and men. By using the specific Greek word prtotokos, firstborn, Paul rules out the idea of Jesus as a created being. Firstborn does not mean first created. Rather, Paul uses a term that was based on the ancient designation of the authority, or pre-eminence, metaphorically given to the firstborn . In the same way, David, the youngest of Jesse, was named firstborn who ruled Israel. Manasseh was born to Joseph first, but Ephraim, his younger brother, was firstborn due to his position as given by Jacob/Israel .

Furthermore, if Paul had wanted to describe Jesus as a created being, he could have used the Greek word protoktistos, which means first created.16 So why didnt he use it? Because Paul did not believe Jesus was created. By describing Jesus as the firstborn over all creation, Paul is saying that he is the absolute ruler over all creation.

God’s Perspective On Suicide

The following is a true story about a Christian man who committed suicide. The experience lends an interesting perspective on the issue of Christians and suicide.

The man who had killed himself was the son of a church staff member. In the short time he had been a believer, he touched many lives for Jesus Christ. His funeral was one of the most moving memorials ever conducted.

With more than 500 mourners gathered, for nearly two hours, person after person testified how this man had been used by God. He had pointed countless lives to faith in Christ and shown them the way to the Father’s love. Mourners left the service convinced that what had driven the man to commit suicide had been his inability to shake his addiction to drugs and the failure he felt as a husband, father, and son.

Although his was a sad and tragic ending, nevertheless, his life testified undeniably of Christ’s redemptive power in an amazing way. It is very difficult to believe that this man went to hell.

The fact is, no one can truly understand the depth of someone else’s suffering or the reasons that could drive a soul to such desperation. Only God knows what is in a person’s heart . Only the Lord knows the extent of pain which might bring a person to the point of suicide.

Proofs That Jesus Is The Son Of God

One of the largest claims in Christianity, and that marks it distinctly from its origins in Judaism, is the belief that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. While the faithful of Israel looked for their Messiah, the Son of David who would save Israel, a man arose from a place of no financial or political importance, from a family of no reputation, to stake a claim greater than the throne of Israel He claimed to be one with the Father.

In His historical context, Jesus of Nazareth was born in the house of two individuals named Joseph and his wife Mary. The Roman Empire controlled Israel through governors in partnership with local rulers. He served as an itinerant Rabbi for three years before being arrested and executed by crucifixion. Here, the story of Jesus of Nazareth turns, with the Gospel writers and other witnesses asserting that He rose from the dead in an act of eternal redemption for those who place their faith in Him. They claim this was possible because Jesus of Nazareth was the Christ – the Son of God.

Did Jesus Ever Really Claim To Be God

Why Does The Bible Say Jesus Grew In Wisdom If He Is God?

Many people claim that Jesus never said He was God. They say that as a religious figure, He revered God and only saw Himself as one part of Gods story. This is simply not true.

Based on the most reliable historical sources about the life of Jesus, Jesus claimed to be God more than once. Some of these statements were overt and clear, but Jesus was often more subtle in displaying His God-nature.

While Jesus walked on earth, He did not often speak frankly about being God. This is likely because His purpose when He came in the first century A.D. was to save people and bring them into a personal relationship with God not to rule over people as a king. Jesus referred to his identity indirectly in statements like I am the way and the truth and the life or I am the light of the world .

However, the New Testament which is the part of the Bible that tells about the life and teachings of Jesus and the teachings of His first followers records several instances in which Jesus affirms, or at least does not deny, that He is God. In a few cases, He identifies Himself as divine outright.

In John 10:30-33, Jesus says He is one with the Father God, which causes the devout Jews to want to execute Him for blasphemy. They say what His words imply: You, a mere man, claim to be God .

Was Jesus Simply A Great Teacher And A Good Man

Josh McDowell is a writer and speaker who became a Christian after carefully examining the evidence that what the Bible says is true. In his book A Ready Defense, he says,

Jesus distinct claims of being God eliminate the popular ploy of skeptics who regard Him as just a good moral man or a prophet who said a lot of profound things. So often that conclusion is passed off as the only one acceptable to scholars or as the obvious result of the intellectual process. The trouble is, many people nod their heads in agreement and never see the fallacy of such reasoning.

McDowell quotes C.S. Lewis, the author, professor at Cambridge University and former antagonist to Christian faith. In his book Mere Christianity, he writes,

God The Father Is God And Lord Himself

In order to complete the above verse, we now have to show that both God the Father, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit are all God and Lord Themselves. In this caption, I will give you 10 major power verses all showing that not only is God the Father God and Lord Himself but that there are no other gods in the entire scheme of things than can even begin to sit next to Him.

The actual wording in some of these verses are very intense in the way they are stating that there is only one God and that there are no other gods anywhere else that can compete with Him for this title.

Here are 10 extremely strong verses all showing us that God the Father is God and Lord Himself, and that there are no other beings, either human or angelic, that can even begin to compete with Him for this title.

All of the above verses are very profound and powerful verses all showing us, without any other possible interpretation, that there is only one God God the Father and that there are no other gods anywhere that can compete or sit beside Him as His equal.

All other false gods being worshiped by all of the other false religions of this earth are nothing more than false idols according to Psalm 96:4 and they will all eventually be completely taken out from this earth when Jesus comes back to us in His second coming to set up His Millennium Kingdom from the city of Jerusalem.

Christ Is Lord Of All

For by Him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authoritiesall things were created through Him and for Him. And He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together. Colossians 1:16-17

Paul is making it very clear that Christ is Lord of all. Everything holds together in Jesus and all things were created through Him. Im not making a case that I understand how all of this works , but we must trust the reliability of Scripture since its Gods very Word to us and believe just how obvious it is that Jesus is God.

Its also referenced how all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell in Him and how we can be reconciled to God through what Christ has done for us on the Cross .

‘did Jesus Exist’ A Historian Makes His Case

Why Does The Bible Say âGod of Jesusâ?? Who is He ...

On why he’s interested in studying Jesus’ transformation

If Jesus had not been declared God by his followers, his followers would’ve remained a sect within Judaism a small Jewish sect, and if that was the case it would not have attracted a large number of gentiles. If they hadn’t attracted a large number of gentiles, there wouldn’t have been this steady rate of conversion over the first three centuries to Christianity it would’ve been a small Jewish sect.

If Christianity had not become a sizable minority in the empire, the Roman emperor Constantine almost certainly would not have converted, but then there wouldn’t have been the masses of conversions after Constantine, and Christianity would not have become the state religion of Rome. If that hadn’t happened, it would never have become the dominant religious, cultural, political, social, economic force that it became so that we wouldn’t have even had the Middle Ages, the Renaissance, the Reformation or modernity as we know it. … It all hinges on this claim the early Christians had that Jesus was God.

Jesus Is Called God In The Bible

The entire chapter of Hebrews 1 discusses the supremacy of Jesus. In Hebrews 1:8, God is actually saying these words to Jesus:

But of the Son He says, Your throne, O God, is forever and ever, the scepter of uprightness is the scepter of your kingdom.

Another area where Jesus is referenced to being God and Savior is in 2 Peter 1:1.

Its hard to read these multiple areas of Scripture and deny that Jesus is God. Even with Jesus Himself referencing that He is the Alpha and Omega , its just further proof that He is in fact, God.

Jesus Is Not God But Jesus Has A God

Wherefore I also, after I heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus, and love unto all the saints, Cease not to give thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him.

Jesus saith unto her, Touch me not for I am not yet ascended to my Father: but go to my brethren, and say unto them, I ascend unto my Father, and your Father and to my God, and your God.

The Resurrection Of The Dead Comes By Man

This Bible Verse is that clear, that there really isnt much left to explain. It says that because death came by man , the resurrection of the dead comes by man, as well. That means that Jesus has to be a human, because the resurrection of the dead came through him. Take a look for yourself:

For since by man came death, by man came also the resurrection of the dead. For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive. But every man in his own order: Christ the firstfruits afterward they that are Christs at his coming. Then cometh the end, when he shall have delivered up the kingdom to God, even the Father when he shall have put down all rule and all authority and power. For he must reign, till he hath put all enemies under his feet.
