Does The Bible Talk About Suicide

Two: God Loves You And Wants To Help

This Week at CBN: What the Bible Says About Life After Death

When Elijah despaired of his life and prayed, It is enough now, O Lord, take away my life , God provided the physical, spiritual, and emotional sustenance he needed to go on. When Jeremiah said, Cursed be the day I was born! , God sustained his prophet.

Scripture promises: The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit . Paul, who faced almost indescribable challenges , could proclaim, I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us .

Jesus knows your pain. He has faced everything we face . He cried from the cross, My God, my God, why have you forsaken me? . Now he is ready to help you.

However, let me repeat that one of the most important ways the Great Physician heals is through human physicians. Thats why you need to reach out to professional counselors as soon as possible. God will use them as he ministers his grace to you.

Three: You Can Dwell On The Heights With God

Paul testified that he could take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ . He could do this because he lived in the power of the Holy Spirit .

God wants to be the sure foundation for your times, a rich store of salvation and wisdom and knowledge . The person who walks with him will dwell on the heights .

You can dwell on the heights with your Father. This is the promise, and the invitation, of God.

Will you accept it today?

Bible Verses About Suicide

This is a really tough subject. When talking about suicide people dont want to say what a family or friend doesnt want to hear. When someone we are close with commits suicide the last thing you want to hear is that they went to Hell, but did they go to Hell?

Can a Christian commit suicide and still be saved? Would a Christian commit suicide? This is not as easy as people make it seem, lets learn more below.

Quotes

When we read about suicides in the Bible. It was only done by evil people.

There was no godly man who committed suicide in Scripture. Of course this doesnt mean that a godly person cant, but we should take this into consideration. There are 6 suicides in Scripture. Many people will say 7 because of Samson, but what Samson did was not suicide. If he had a choice to live he would have lived.

4. 1 Kings 16:18 When Zimri saw that the city was taken, he went into the citadel of the royal palace and set the palace on fire around him. So he died.

Bible Characters That Found Hope

Some people in scripture felt deep pain in life. Solomon, in his pursuit of happiness, reached the point where he hated life . Elijah was fearful and depressed and yearned for death , and Jonah was so angry at God that he wished to die . Even the apostle Paul and his missionary companions at one point were under great pressure, far beyond our ability to endure, so that we despaired of life itself .

However, none of these men committed suicide. Solomon learned to fear God and keep His commandments, for this is the duty of all mankind . Elijah was comforted by an angel, allowed to rest, and given a new commission. Jonah received admonition and rebuke from God. Paul learned that, although the pressure he faced was beyond his ability to endure, the Lord can bear all things: This happened that we might not rely on ourselves but on God, who raises the dead .

25 Important Bible Verses About Suicide

Jesus prayed alone at the beginning of his day and at its end . He agonized in solitary prayer before his arrest and crucifixion . Times of isolation became opportunities for worship as he sought the strength of his Father.

Does God Forgive Suicide

There’s no doubt that suicide is a terrible tragedy. For a Christian, it is an even greater tragedy because it is a waste of a life that God intended to use in a glorious way.

It would be difficult to argue that suicide is not a sin, for it is the taking of a human life, or to put it bluntly, murder. The Bible clearly expresses the sanctity of human life .

God is the author and giver of life . Scripture says God breathed the breath of life into humans . Our lives are a gift from God. Thus, the giving and taking of life ought to remain in his sovereign hands .

In Deuteronomy 30:11-20, you can hear the heart of God crying out for his people to choose life:

“Today I have given you the choice between life and death, between blessings and curses. Now I call on heaven and earth to witness the choice you make. Oh, that you would choose life, so that you and your descendants might live! You can make this choice by loving the Lord your God, obeying him, and committing yourself firmly to him. This is the key to your life…â

So, can a sin as grave as suicide destroy one’s chance of salvation?

The Bible tells us that at the moment of salvation a believer’s sins are forgiven . When we become a child of God, all of our sins, even those committed after salvation, are no longer held against us.

The Apostle Paul made it plain in Romans 8:38-39 that nothing can separate us from God’s love:

Two: Gratitude In Hard Times Can Lead To Great Joy

According to research reported by the Harvard Medical School, gratitude is strongly and consistently associated with greater happiness. My purpose here is not to encourage naivete: the crises of our day are producing unprecedented suffering for millions of people.

But the One who came to save all of mankind faced challenges we cannot begin to imagine. And yet he lived a life of worship and praise: he gave thanks for his food he praised his Father for revealing his will he thanked him for hearing his prayer .

If we choose to give thanks in all circumstances , we will seek reasons for gratitude amid our challenges. For example, we can thank our Father for his presence in our pain . We can thank him for healthcare heroes fighting this pandemic, researchers who are working to end it, and workers who are supplying essential services.

These days are especially difficult for our churches as they are forced into strange routines. Many are struggling financially. But God is still good and his grace is still powerful.

Would you identify and thank God for a specific gift of his grace right now?

If you do, you will testify that the joy of the Lord is your strength .

Remember That Feelings And Other Things In Life Change

What the Bible says about homosexuality | Kristin Saylor & Jim O’Hanlon | TEDxEdgemontSchool

What the Bible says: You do not know what your life will be like tomorrow.James 4:14.

Meaning: A distressing problemeven one that seems beyond your controlmay well be temporary.

No matter how bleak your situation seems today, it can change tomorrow. So look for ways to cope. Your distressing situation will likely change in time, but you cannot undo suicide.

Try this: Read Bible accounts about people who felt so discouraged that they wanted to die, and see how their life eventually changed for the betteroften in ways that they could not have foreseen. Consider some examples.

Is There Hope For Unbelievers Who Commit Suicide To Have Life After Death

Having considered the potential future for believers who die by suicide, what about those who do not believe in God who die in this manner? Is there any hope for them to be brought back to life again? Yes, there is.

Suicide is shocking and has a terribly traumatic effect upon those who survive. Because that is the case, some view suicide as an unforgivable sin. But it is not a worse sin than others. Countless people die without repenting of the many sins they have committed in their lifetime. What happens after we dieincluding someone who takes his or her lifeif we have not repented of our sins?

The typical assumption that most Bible-believing people make about the afterlife is that there are only two possible options: that one goes immediately to either heaven or hell upon death. In fact, the Bible nowhere teaches that heaven is the reward of the saved or that an ever-burning hell is the destiny of the condemned. The truth is that God has not finished working with most people who have lived and died. Being the epitome of fairness, He would in no way condemn someone who died without ever having understood Gods plan of salvation.

God has not yet done this with most people who have ever lived.

Suicide Prevention Lifeline: Call 1-800-273-8255

The topic of suicide is perhaps one of the most difficult and painful discussions in the faith. It is confusing, and it is divisive. Suicide is the act of an individual ending his or her life. Many look to the Bible for answers, whether to alleviate their depression, or to find answers about what happened to a loved one who may have taken their own life. The Bible may seem silent, and there are church traditions on suicide which can confuse the issue. Understanding what the Bible actually says about suicide can provide comfort for those who are struggling, and for those who need answers.

What About Falling From Grace

Those who believe that it is possible to trust in Christ and then lose our salvation are quick to quote Hebrews 6:46. These interpreters assume that the text speaks of people who have experienced a genuine conversion, then fall away . They typically believe that such a person needs another salvation experience.

But others disagree.

Some believe that the writer is stating a hypothetical case: if genuine Christians have fallen away, then it is impossible for them to be brought back to repentance . Not that they can actually fall from salvation, but, if they could, they could not be saved again. Note that if the text deals with a Christian who actually falls from faith, it teaches that the person has no chance to be saved again.

Others believe that the writer is speaking not of a Christian but of someone who considers the faith, perhaps even joins a church, but then rejects Christ. If such a person persists in unbelief, he cannot then be saved. If a person claims that he once trusted Christ but does so no more, we would believe that he was never a genuine Christian.

The Bible seems clearly to teach that a Christian is forever the child of God:
