The Mind Of Christ Bible Verse

Do All Things Unto The Lord

Philippians 2:5-8 ——- The mind of Christ that we are to have…

And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through HimAnd whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men. .

The apostle Paul tells us to do all things unto the Lord and not for people. We can take this command and apply it to our lives in a way that it causes us to be aware of God.

For example, lets say youre doing dishes. Instead of just doing the mundane chore of dishes, start the task by asking the Father to help you do it unto Him. Then while you clean, talk with Him and worship Him. After you get done with all the dishes thank Him for the help and that He was present with you.

I got this tip from a man called Brother Lawrence. He was a chef in the 17th century. He wrote a series of letters to believers to help them in continual communion with God. Those letters were collected and put in a book called Practicing the Presence of God.

We get the most out of each verse when we understand them in context. So, feel free to dig a little deeper into the meaning of this verse with these resources:

  • The Message version says this verse this way:

Dont become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking. Instead, fix your attention on God. Youll be changed from the inside out. Readily recognize what he wants from you, and quickly respond to it. Unlike the culture around you, always dragging you down to its level of immaturity, God brings the best out of you, develops well-formed maturity in you. .

Verses About The Power Of Your Thoughts

W e have a strong desire to do life well, to maximize our potential, and to reflect the image of our Creator.

Im not here to offer magic formulas, but I do believe theres a particular path that ends in a life well-lived and a lasting legacy. That path starts between the ears.

The Bible speaks often about the power of the mind and our thoughts. I think its easy to glaze over this and overlook the connection between thoughts and transformation. Maybe its to self-helpish, and weve been turned off by cheap self-help books.

The unhealthy relationship between science and faith hasnt served Christians well either. Science connected the mind with transformation years ago. But the bitter rivalry between faith and science wouldnt give credibility to its findings.

More and more, science is confirming Scripture, not contradicting it.

Our minds are powerful, and our thoughts shape who we are and will become.

Christian Quotes About Renewing The Mind

1 Corinthians 2:16 For who has known the mind of the Lord, that he ...

Without the renewed mind, we will distort the Scriptures to avoid their radical commands for self-denial, and love, and purity, and supreme satisfaction in Christ alone. John Piper

Sanctification begins with spiritually renewing the mind, that is, changing how we think. John MacArthur

Renewing the mind is a little like refinishing furniture. It is a two-stage process. It involves taking off the old and replacing it with the new. The old is the lies you have learned to tell or were taught by those around you it is the attitudes and ideas that have become a part of your thinking but do not reflect reality. The new is the truth. To renew your mind is to involve yourself in the process of allowing God to bring to the surface the lies you have mistakenly accepted and replace them with truth. To the degree that you do this, your behavior will be transformed.

If you perform your part, God will fulfill His. And once you put off specifically, you should just as thoroughly believe that God will renew your mind, despite the fact you know not how. Watchman Nee

Most of all, let the Word of God fill you and renew your mind every day. When our minds are on Christ, Satan has little room to maneuver. Billy Graham

Satans target is your mind, and his weapons are lies. So fill your mind with the Word of God.

For Though We Walk In The Flesh We Are Not Waging War According To The Flesh For The Weapons Of Our Warfare Are Not Of The Flesh But Have Divine Power To Destroy Strongholds We Destroy Arguments And Every Lofty Opinion Raised Against The Knowledge Of God And Take Every Thought Captive To Obey Christ Being Ready To Punish Every Disobedience When Your Obedience Is Complete 2 Corinthians : 3

We may live in a world full of evil and conflict, but our true battle isnt waged in the world itself. Through study and clear-mindedness, we are able to sharpen our abilities to combat worldly challenges.

Taken another way, the body itself is weak – perhaps too weak to withstand the rigors of the world by itself. So a sound mind is required to counter the actions of those against God. The context of the letter from Paul suggests imagery of war and physical conflict.

Today we can see this as a call to the mind as a weapon to receive Gods strength. And with that strength, we are able to combat evil in the world, and in our own minds.

We Are No Longer Slaves To Sin

23. Romans 6:1-6 What shall we say then? Are we to continue in sin that grace may abound? By no means! How can we who died to sin still live in it? Do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life. For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we shall certainly be united with him in a resurrection like his. We know that our old self was crucified with him in order that the body of sin might be brought to nothing, so that we would no longer be enslaved to sin.

What Does The Bible Say About Renewing The Mind

How do you renew your mind? Are you earthly minded or are you heavenly minded? Lets replace the worlds way of thinking with the truths of Gods Word. What we dwell upon and the things that take our time will shape our lives. As believers, we renew our minds biblically by spending uninterrupted time with God in prayer and His Word. Be careful what you are feeding your mind because what we indulge in will affect us. Set time daily to read the Bible, prayer, and worship the Lord.

Pray In The Spirit Continually

How do We Have the Mind of Christ? 1 Peter 4:1. (#163)

The Bible tells us to pray in the Spirit at all times.

Praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication. To that end, keep alert with all perseverance, making supplication for all the saints.

Praying in the Spirit is speaking in tongues.

Therefore let him who speaks in a tongue pray that he may interpret. For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays, but my understanding is unfruitful. What is the then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will also pray with the understanding. I will sing with the spirit, and I will also sing with the understanding.

So, we are to continually pray in tongues at all times. Now, if you know your Bible you know that it says that the mind is unfruitful when we speak in tongues.

Which is completely true. So how will this help us keep our minds stayed on God? Simple. If I am continually praying in the Spirit I am going to be continually aware of the Spirit. I may not understand what Im saying to God, but I will understand that me and the Holy Spirit are cooperating in prayer.

Continually pray in tongues so that you can build yourself up and be conscious of Gods presence.

Spend Time With God In The Secret Place

But you, when you pray, go into your room, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in the secret place and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly.

Spend time alone with God in secret prayer. This is where intimacy is formed. When you spend time with the Lord when no one is watching, and its just you and Him. This is where His heart becomes your heart, and His mind becomes your mind. Its the place where we get know Him, and the result is becoming more like HIm.

The Father wants you to Himself. This is why we are saved. The apostle Paul said the Gospel is the message of reconciliation . Christ died on the cross to restore a relationship. Now, obviously He died because we sinned against a holy God, but that wasnt the reason why Jesus came to save us. Christ had to die because we sinned, but Gods purpose in Christ dying was to restore us back to what we were originally created for. .

God has invited us into a relationship with Him, and if we accept the invitation we will be fulfilling why we were created to begin with. If you and I learn to spend time with God in secret prayer, we will become more like Him, and the Spirit of God will give us the mind of Christ .

Finally Brothers And Sisters Whatever Is True Whatever Is Noble Whatever Is Right Whatever Is Pure Whatever Is Lovely Whatever Is Admirableif Anything Is Excellent Or Praiseworthythink About Such Things Philippians : 8 Niv

Its notable that this comes at the end of a longer passage. It feels like a summary of a larger endorsement. But it is no less pertinent, as it addresses the mindset of the Christian directly.

We should mentally engage ourselves with what is truthful and noble, in order to inform our actions accordingly. After all, truth and virtue are found through Christ. So it would seem logical to connect all things that are righteous and pure as being of Christ. We would do well to fill our minds with such things.

The Exhortation We Are To Obey

This is indicated in verse 5: Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus i.e. the humble, lowly attitude. In verses 1-4 we see why the exhortation of verse 5 was so necessary. Because of the failings indicated, and because Paul knew the root cause for their presence was pride, he exhorted the Christians to have the same attitude as the Lord Jesus Christ. That is a humble, meek, loving mind. But the apostle did not leave the matter there. Notice:

For In My Inner Being I Delight In God’s Law But I See In My Members Another Law Waging War Against The Law Of My Mind And Making Me Captive To The Law Of Sin That Dwells In My Members

We have the mind of Christ 1. Korinther 2,12

While it is noble to pursue a clear and present mindset in relation to God, it is also important to be aware of and acknowledge the realities of ones own weakness, especially during lifes trials and tribulations. The speaker here laments the presence of his earthly desires insomuch as it seems to oppose his inner desire to follow Gods Law.

This is why we understand the pursuit of a godly, Christian mind to be a process and a lifelong journey. It is in essence the pursuit of truth and discipline within a world that often openly opposes such traits.

Read The Bible Consistently

The Word of God is an essential tool to stay focused on God. The last section I talked about avoiding the things of the world, in this section its about consuming the things of God. The Bible is Gods literal Word, and when we learn to incline our ear to it, itll be easier to hear.

Have you ever been in a conversation with someone and your mind wandered from the conversation? Do you know why that happened? Its because you werent paying attention to their words! You were caring about other things while they were talking.

Well, a good way to focus on God is by continually reading His Word. When we do that, itll be almost impossible to have our minds wander because His word will always be in front of us. .

So, we need to develop a habit where we read the Bible continually. Maybe instead of picking up your phone to scroll through Facebook, you pick up your phone to read through the Bible app. Little things like that can make a big difference in our walk with God.

Take Short Breaks To Focus On God

I heard a pastor once say that he likes to take short 5 minute breaks to just become aware of God. I like that. I think sometimes we get caught up in the busyness of life that we sometimes forget about God.

But if we learn to do what that pastor did and stop for a few moments, itll be much easier to remind ourselves of the Lord.

However, the report went around concerning Him all the more and great multitudes came together to hear, and to be healed by Him of their infirmities. So He Himself often withdrew into the wilderness and prayed.

We see Jesus doing the same thing in this passage. He had great crowds coming to be healed by Him, but He would withdraw often to go pray. Jesus protected His relationship with the Father from busyness, so should we.

Scriptures On The Mind

Living a life dedicated to the teachings of God involves more than a physical commitment. The Bible talks about the mind as a powerful tool through which to combat the enemy with internal strength and power. Indeed, even the most faithful have times of trouble, where the spirit is challenged with every thought.

Here are 14 verses about the Christian mind that will give you the peace of God. The scripture here will prepare your mind for God and his teachings while also giving you mental and spiritual strength.

Study 4 Having The Mind Of Christ

Relaxed Mind of Christ [Bible Sleep Meditation]

There was evidently one weak spot in the church at Philippi, for three times in his letter the apostle Paul reproves the Christians, not for doctrinal error, but for careless and undisciplined living – look up 1:27, 2:1-5 and 4:1-5. They were sound in doctrine, but they were not manifesting the unity of the Spirit . Instead of concord there was discord instead of harmony there was disharmony their believing was all right, but their behaving was all wrong. It is very easy for those who are sound in doctrine to fail to make the teaching about God our Saviour attractive . What is the reason for the presence of these hindering things in the church? What causes them? S-E-L-F every time – and self in its ugliest manifestation – P-R-I-D-E! It was because some of the Philippian Christians were self-centred and proud that Paul appealed to them , to clothe yourselves with H-U-M-I-L-I-T-Y, for the secret of harmony, concord and unity is humility. Let us consider the valuable teaching contained in Philippians 2:1-13, and first notice:

Rest In The Truth That You Are Accepted In Jesus Christ

Ill pray for the Lord to protect my mind, help me recognize the enemy, and work to keep my mind focused on God. Sometimes I will be successful, and sometimes I will not be. Over time, it will be more often the former.

There are days when all I can do is rest in the truth that I am at peace with God, that I am free from accusation, and that I am Gods child.

Through faith in Jesus Christ, we are at peace with God. Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ .

In Christ, we are free from accusation. There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus .

In Christ, we are children of God and heirs along with Jesus. The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, then heirsheirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ .

My identity in Jesus Christ is the central fact that influences my present circumstances and determines my eternal future, and it is available by faith alone. Dont doubt dont wonder dont question it.

Accept Gods gracious gift, and rest in it.
