Who Was Enoch In The Bible

Why is Enoch not in the Bible?

According to Genesis, Enoch was one of Adams descendants, not from Cain or from Abel from Adam and Eves third son, Seth. Specifically, Enoch was;Seths great-great-great-grandson, and also Noahs great-grandfather. In an age where many people lived well past the century mark and God hadnt laid down a 120-year limit yet , Enoch became a father at 65 years old and lived to be 365 . Genesis 5 also appears to say that Enoch didnt die: he walked faithfully with God;;then he was no more, because God took him away .

Luke mentions Enoch in his list of Jesus ancestors , going all the way back to Adam. Hebrews 11 mentions Enoch in a list of the ancients, Israelite ancestors who are commended for their great faith. Hebrews also clarifies that God taking Enoch away is not an expression. He didnt die, and his family didnt lose him in mysterious circumstances.He was taken from this life, so that he did not experience death For before he was taken, he was commended as one who pleased God;.

Outside the canonical Bible, there are at least three ancient books attributed to Enoch. These books are often listed as part of the;Pseudepigrapha:

·;;;;The Book of Enoch

·;;;;The Book of the Secrets of Enoch

·;;;;The Hebrew Book of Enoch

Book 1 includes chapters 6-36 and is primarily about angels, the Tree of Life, Jerusalem, and the universe. Book 2 includes chapters 37-71 and deals with the One, the Son of God, or the Messiah, resurrection, the flood, Noah, future judgment, and paradise. Book 3 includes;chapters 72-82 which deal with the stars, moon, astronomy, the universe, and Enochs mission. Book IV includes chapters 83-90 which concern predictions about the flood, a historical sketch, the future of Israel, and the messianic kingdom. Book V includes chapters;91-105 that deal with various challenges for the wicked and righteous. The concluding chapters of 106-108 discuss;the sin after the flood until the coming of the Messiah.

Who Really Wrote The Book Of Enoch

It is asserted in the book itself that its author was Enoch, before the biblical flood. The most complete Book of Enoch comes from Ethiopic manuscripts, maafa hnok , written in Geez, which were brought to Europe by James Bruce in the late 18th century and were translated into English in the 19th century.

Why Is the Book of Enoch Not Included in the Bible ...

At this point, its quite easy to draw a conclusion stating that Enochs book is a perfect example of enigmas. Theres a thin line between Pseudepigrapha and the scripture. In spite of all this, the book of Enoch works is more complicated. Here are some secrets that result from these complications:

1. The Early Churches and Christians Considered Enochs Book as a Scripture

Post-Christ in the early centuries, most people were well versed with the Book of Enoch. The early churches, Christians and forefathers regarded the book to be a section of the scripture and canonical. They even quoted it in some instances. Besides, literature also has plenty of references from the book of Enoch.

Barnabus epistle is full of citations from this book while church Fathers in the early centuries use it. These include Clement of Alexandria, Justin Martyr, Irenaeus, Tertullian called Enochs book the holy scripture.

2. Enochs Book Revelations Were Not for The Generation of His Time

The first verse in the book of Enoch stipulates that it contains revelations that were not meant his generation. Remote generations that were to come after Christ and Enoch would understand what was in the book better. This could be the reason why the book of Enoch was rejected earlier as it rose into awareness in recent times.

Enoch Chapter 1: 1-3 says: The blessings of Enoch in which he blesses the righteous and elect living in the tribulation day when the ungodly and wicked will be removed.

Quote Doesnt Imply Scripture Anyway

The Apostle Paul quotes the pagan Epimenides in Titus 1:12 but that does not mean we should give any additional authority to Epimenides writings. He does it again in Athens when debating philosophers.;;

There are plenty of texts quoted in the Old Testament times with such references to the Book of Jasher recorded in Joshua 10:13 and 2 Samuel 1:18. Their inclusion means that the part references and quoted is Scripture, but the rest of the work is not. So the mere quotation of a work does not, in and of itself, make a whole work Scripture. You can argue also that written outside of that book it is not scripture .

The same is true with Jude, verses 14-15. Jude quoting from the book of Enoch does not indicate the entire Book of Enoch is inspired, or even true. All it means is that particular verse is true.

What To Do With Enoch And Other Books Like It

Christians should treat the book of Enoch and other books like it the same way we do with other Apocryphal writings. Some of what the Apocrypha says is correct and right, but much of what it says is wrong and historically inaccurate. If you decide to read these books, you may read them as an interesting novel containing interesting stories from history. You may not read them as the inspired, inerrant, infallible, clear, and authoritative Word of God.;

But we highly recommend you read any of these books with caution and discernment. If you find yourself influenced by the wording held within the books of the Apocrypha, then close them for the time being. And make sure to stay in the Word on a daily basis. Although it’s fun to explore extra-biblical books written millennia ago, it’s far more important to invest in God’s Word.

Why Is the Book of Enoch Not Included in the Bible?

The reason why the book of Enoch was bannedand its chilling reason shows how far the established religions have gone to hide spiritual truths and wittingly or unwittingly follow doctrines of demons.

I want to make my case through historic facts for the validity of the book, in hopes of opening the eyes of people who like to foment emotional arguments to outright reject the book of Enoch.

This was told to us in 1 Timothy 4:1 The Spirit clearly says that in later times some will abandon the faith and follow deceiving spirits and things taught by demons.

The book of Enoch contains information on the origin of evil or familiar spirits. It contains many admonitions regarding righteousness versus unrighteousness. Including many prophecies and parables. And I have found at least 75 direct references in the New Testament.

Note the warnings in Timothy are for things taking place in the end times. Now look at the introduction to the book of Enoch and who and when this book is for.

1 Enoch 1:1-2 The word of the blessing of Enoch, how he blessed the elect and the righteous, who were to exist in the time of tribulation; rejecting all the wicked and ungodly. Enoch, a righteous man, who was with God, answered and spoke, while his eyes were open, and while he saw a holy vision in the heavens.

Jesus Said The Book Of Enoch Is Scripture

Published by Forerunner62 on October 23, 2020October 23, 2020

In this article Im will prove to you conclusively from the words and from the mouth of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ himself, that the book of Enoch is scripture.

Matthew 22 verses 23 through 29

In a discussion about the resurrection it says, that same day Jesus was approached bysome Sadducees, religious leaders who say there is no resurrection from the dead. They posed this question, Teacher Moses said if a man dies without children and his brother should marry the widow and have a child who will carry on the brothers name.Well suppose there were seven brothers and the oldest one married and then diedwithout children so his brother married the widow but the second brother also diedand the third brother married her this continued with all seven of them. Last of all the woman also died.

So tell us, whose wife will she be in the resurrection? For all seven were married to her. AndJesus replied, Your mistake is that YOU DONT KNOW THE SCRIPTURES, and you dont know the power of God.

For when the dead rise they will neither marry nor be given in marriage in this respectthey will be like the angels in heaven.

What scripture is Jesus talking about?

Hes talking about the book of Enoch

Enoch Contains Things That Are Arguably False

For example, it says that the giants of Biblical times were 400-450 feet tall. ;That is over 6 times taller than the largest dinosaur to ever exist, 4 times longer than a blue whale, longer than a football field, and the same height as the Great Pyramid in Egypt. ;If this is true, why does the Bible only speaks of giants as being 8-15 feet tall, and where are all the other legends in other cultures of giants who were this tall?

We can trust that if God wanted the book of Enoch to be seen as the same level as other Scripture,;God would have ensured that this book was included.; While Enoch may offer an interesting perspective on things and may include fragments of truth, it is not God-breathed and therefore not to be regarded on the same level as Scripture.

Athanasius And The Canon Of Scripture

No other figure in church history shines as brightly as Athanasius. Athanasius was born in AD 295 and quickly rose through the ranks of the Alexandrian Church. He became a personal assistant to the bishop and was there at the Council of Nicaea in AD 325. Athanasius was the first to recognize what is now the 27 letters in the New Testament.

The first list of 27 books in the New Testament appears in AD 367 in a letter written by Athanasius, Bishop of Alexandria. It was not until after that date that uniform agreement on the list was found among all teachers in the Catholic Church. Around the end of the second century, most of the 27 books of the New Testament were accepted by the Catholic Church and were placed alongside the Jewish Scriptures.

Why Didn’t God Let Enoch Or Elijah Die

Why exactly Enoch and Elijah got this special treatment is hard to say. The Bible suggests that Enochs great faith was why God took him away. Many of us wouldnt describe Elijah as having great faith, given that he experienced great doubt after Queen Jezebel tried to kill him . However, Elijah did serve God faithfully under extreme circumstances and having doubts and some tough periods does not negate a persons faith. Like Enoch, Elijah had faith in what he could not see, perhaps especially during the three-year drought when he had to trust God for food. Theres something refreshing about the fact that Elijahs doubts didnt disqualify him, and that along with Enoch, he was honored for his faith.

Tracing The Origin Of The Book Of Enoch

Before we delve deep into the cause behind the rejection of the Book of Enoch, let us trace its origin. If you have a base to anchor the book into, you will understand the proceedings of this article better.

The Book of Enoch is ascribed to Enoch, the great-grandfather of Noah. It is an ancient Jewish work of religious significance. Scholars believe that the First Book of Enoch, regarded as 1 Enoch, traditionally dates back to the 2nd century BCE.

You will find that the book itself asserts that Enoch is the author prior to the biblical flood.

In present times, there is only a single complete copy of the book that scholars know of. It originates from Ethiopia, stemming from a Greek version as well as Aramaic parent text.

The common understanding about its time of emergence boils down to somewhere between the 4th and the 6th centuries AD. The Ethiopic manuscripts are wholly in Geez. They were not translated into English until the 19th century.

Some people suggest that it was originally composed in Aramaic and Hebrew. As of now, it is unknown whether a Hebrew version of the book survives.

1 Enoch has five main sections or lesser books within it:

  • Book of the Watchers
  • Book of the Similitudes
  • Book of the Astronomical Writings
  • Book of the Dream Visions
  • Book of the Epistle of Enoch

Each section of the book discusses a distinct theme of biblical relevance. According to some scholars, the different parts were independent works edited into the Book of Enoch as we know it today.

Why Not Discuss 2

Why is the Book of Enoch not in the Bible? Because it’s an Antichrist Text!

If you care to know about 2 and 3 Enoch, they almost certainly post-date Jesus, although 2 Enoch is probably pre-70 AD since it assumes the temple is standing. This is said of 3 Enoch:

It is impossible to reach a very firm conclusion as to the date of 3 Enoch. The main problem is the literary character of the work: it is not the total product of a single author at a particular point in time, but the deposit of a school tradition which incorporates elements from widely different periods. Certain rough chronological limits can, however, be established. 3 Enoch can hardly have been written later than the tenth century A.D

James H. Charlesworth 2010, The Pseudepigrapha;

The fact that the tenth century is being tossed around for this is telling enough.;
