What Is The Glory Of God According To The Bible

Jesus And The Kingdom

What Is the Glory of God? What Does It Mean to Glorify God?

John the Baptist began his ministry announcing that the kingdom of heaven was at hand . Then Jesus took over: From that time Jesus began to preach, saying, Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.

Jesus taught his followers how to enter the Kingdom of God: Not everyone who says to me, Lord, Lord, will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.

The parables Jesus told illuminated truth about the Kingdom of God: And he answered them, To you it has been given to know the secrets of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it has not been given.

Likewise, Jesus urged his followers to pray for the coming of the Kingdom: Pray then like this: Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.

Jesus promised he would come again to earth in glory to establish his Kingdom as an eternal inheritance for his people.

Jesus said in John 18:36, “My kingship is not of this world.” He was not implying that his reign had nothing to do with the world, but that his dominion came not from any earthly human, but from God. For this reason, Jesus rejected the use of worldly fighting to achieve his purposes.

Where and When Is the Kingdom of God?

Sometimes the Bible refers to the Kingdom of God as a present reality while other times as a future realm or territory.

Nevertheless, Jesus often spoke of the Kingdom as a future inheritance:

What Is Heaven Like According To The Bible

We shall see the Lord face-to-face. The fact that our all-knowing, all-powerful Creator will dwell with us and we shall know him in an even more intimate way should be sufficient for the true Christian to rest assured that they will be satisfied there.

When people try to imagine heaven, they sometimes picture ethereal images like angels loafing on clouds or chubby cherubs strumming on harps. In order to be motivated to live for the values of heaven, maintaining a biblical mindset about eternal realities is important.

But maintaining this perspective is difficult when we are bombarded with numerous misconceptions about heaven in popular culture. Here are three of the most common ideas about heaven and what the Bible says about them.

What Is Glory In Christianity

Gods glory is an indicator of his value. Throughout the Old and New Testament, evidence of Gods glory is seen in miracles. A natural response to seeing miracles was to praise God and give him glory.

Glory is a multi-faceted word for Christians. It describes Gods obvious presence, it indicates worth and value, which results in praise, and it is also a synonym for heaven. Christians can reflect Christs glory, just as Jesus reflected the glory of his Father in heaven.

In the Old Testament, many different Hebrew words are translated into English as glory. The most common Hebrew word is khabod, which means weightiness or worth and is used in the phrase the glory of the Lord.

In the New Testament, the Greek word doxa means opinion , praise, honor, glory. Typical usage includes honor, renown, glory, and the especially divine quality, the unspoken manifestation of God’s splendor.

To Glorify God We Must Proclaim His Gospel To The Nations

Paul writes , according to the commandment of the eternal God, has been made known to all the nations. Although some understand the commandment here to refer to the Great Commission, it probably rather refers to Gods own determination to make known the mystery at the time that he did . For reasons that we cannot fully know, before Christ came, God mostly restricted the gospel to His chosen people, the Jews. But after His resurrection, Christ commanded us to take the good news to the nations. Even then, the apostles were a bit leery of Peter going into the house of a Gentile centurion and preaching the gospel . But then God saved the militant Jew, Paul, and commissioned him as the apostle to the Gentiles.

When Paul says that the gospel has been made known to all the nations, he is not saying that the missionary task has been completed. He has just stated how he aimed to go to Spain . Rather, he is emphasizing the universal applicability of the gospel . God is glorified when people from every tongue, tribe, and nation believe in and obey Jesus Christ. We all need to labor to that end.

Gods Glory Indicates His Presence

1711 best Yeshua

Glory is a characteristic of God seen in both the Old and New Testament descriptions of God and his presence.

In Exodus 33:22, the glory of the Lord indicated his presence as to Moses, and while my glory passes by I will put you in a cleft of the rock, and I will cover you with my hand until I have passed by.

The visible presence of Gods glory was seen in a cloud during the Exodus, and in Solomons Temple after the Ark of the Covenant was put in it.

The glory of the LORD dwelt on Mount Sinai, and the cloud covered it six days. And on the seventh day, he called to Moses out of the midst of the cloud .

The glory of the Lord appeared to all the people during the time of the Tabernacle.

Then the cloud covered the tent of meeting, and the glory of the Lord filled the tabernacle .

The Book of John connects Gods presence in giving the Law and the indwelling of the presence of God in the Tabernacle to Jesus dwelling with humanity by calling Jesus the Word.

The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth .

After the temple was built, the presence and glory of the Lord were seen in a cloud.

And when the priests came out of the Holy Place, a cloud filled the house of the LORD, so that the priests could not stand to minister because of the cloud, for the glory of the LORD filled the house of the LORD .

Ways You Can Put Gods Glory On Display

The succinct, simple and direct mandate of Scripture is that “whatever you do, do all to the glory of God” . All of Gods creation is to be absorbed with putting the glory of God on display. When the angels announced the Saviors birth, they were joined by the heavenly host, glorifying God . The shepherds responded by glorifying God following their visit to the Christ-child in the manger . Even the physical creation incessantly declares His glory .

While the importance of this mandate is not lost on most Christians, its fulfillment frequently is. We heed lip-service, often closing our prayers of petition with, and well be sure to give you all the glory. But when the answer comes, we, much like the nine lepers, are often so elated that we fail to make good on our promise.

How can we follow the example of creation or join in the chorus with the shepherds and the heavenly host in glorifying God? The answer, I believe, is found in Exodus 33:18-34:8. When Moses asks to see the glory of God, God puts His glory on display by rehearsing His attributes, and thereby demonstrates how we can give God the glory that belongs to Him. Here are six ways you can put the glory of God on display:

A Hard Question To Answer

We began with what really is a loaded question: what is the glory of God? It is not loaded because it is a trick question, it is loaded because it has so many answers. How do you take the one who is omnipotent, omniscient, omnipresent, eternal, holy, glorious, and try to wrap all that glory into an answer? It is hard to do.

I hope you see that Gods glory goes far beyond even our human comprehension. I fully believe it will take eternity to fully understand and experience the wonder of Gods glory. My final thought is to point you to heaven and our eternal home. Here is a glimpse of the reality of the glory of God.

And he carried me away in the Spirit to a mountain great and high, and showed me the Holy City, Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God. It shone with the glory of God, and its brilliance was like that of a very precious jewel, like a jasper, clear as crystal. I did not see a temple in the city, because the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are its temple. The city does not need the sun or the moon to shine on it, for the glory of God gives it light, and the Lamb is its lamp .

May we live lives that truly honor him and bring the glory to his name that it so richly deserves.

The Gods of the Bible, Part 1

1 When the people saw that Moses delayed in coming down from the mountain, they gathered together around Aaron and said to him, Get up, make us gods42 that will go before us. As for this fellow Moses, the man who brought us up from the land of Egypt, we do not know what has become of him! 2 So Aaron said to them, Break off the gold earrings that are on the ears of your wives, your sons, and your daughters, and bring them to me. 3 So all the people broke off the gold earrings that were on their ears, and they brought them to Aaron. 4 And he received them from their hand, fashioned it with an engraving tool, and made a molten calf. Then they said, These are your gods, O Israel, who brought you up out of Egypt. 5 When Aaron saw this, he built an altar before it, and Aaron made a proclamation and said, Tomorrow will be a feast to the Lord. 6 So they got up early on the next day and offered up burnt offerings, and they brought peace offerings and the people sat down to eat and drink, and they rose up to play .

Doing Everything For Gods Glory And Being Built Up To Be Gods Dwelling Place

The glory of the Lord returned because the building of Gods house was completed . The glory returned from the east the direction of the sunrise, which signifies glory the Lord came back from the glory .

The glory came from the glory the glory of the Lord left by the way of east, and now it returned from the same way. Similarly, the Lord Jesus ascended from the Mount of Olives, and He will descend to the Mount of Olives when He returns.

The glory of the Lord came into the house by the east gate, which was for the glory of the Lord .

The temple has three gates: one toward the east, one toward the south, and one toward the north the east gate was not merely for the convenience of the people, but also for the glory of the Lord. Similarly, in the church life we have many gates, but the east gate should be open for the glory of the Lord.

This means that everything we do in the church life should be according to the Lords glory, with His glory in view. Even in such decision as where to have the meeting and what time, we should care for the Lords glory more than for the peoples convenience.

The first consideration we should have in the church life should be the Lords glory . Whatever we do in work or in deed should be to the glory of God. The way we dress, the way we comport ourselves with others, the way we speak, everything should be to Gods glory.

In order for the glorious God to dwell in the church, the church must be built up to become the dwelling place of God.

What Does The Glory Of God Mean For Me Today

Glory to God Window Banner

As I have continued to think about the weight of Gods majesty, I dont think that this question is hypothetical.

1 Corinthians 10:31 says Whether you eat or drink or whatever you dodo all for the glory of God.

Gods glory in my life is all-encompassing. At some point, I truly believe, Gods glory will demand something precious of each of us.

So my question now has been How can I prepare now, so that when the time comes I am able to give up something costly for Gods glory?

I think if we look to Moses example in Exodus we can gain a few insights on HOW we can come to the point of being able to surrender whatever so that God will receive the maximum glory.

What Does It Mean To Have God’s Glory Upon You

To think about the glory of God upon you I want you to focus on the Holy Spirit within you. The amazing thing about what God did when he saved you is he deposited the Spirit of God in your heart. I dont know if we often get this all the time, but God himself in the person of the Holy Spirit dwells within your heart. This means Gods strength, Gods wisdom, Gods love, Gods peace, Gods joy all dwell within you. As you deepen your walk with God and yield more to the Holy Spirit, then you will experience more of Gods glory flowing in your life.

Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate the Lords glory, are being transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit .
