ALISON BALSOM – Sound the Trumpet (Royal Music of Purcell & Handel)

In the recent several gatheringshow to welcome the Lords return had been a hot topic. The Lord Jesus said, And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. And He shall send His angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together His elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other . Everyone at the meeting had a different understanding of a great sound of a trumpet in this verse, and they started a heated discussion.

In the meeting, Brother Wang said with confidence, The Lord Jesus told us that when He returns, a trumpet will sound in heaven to gather together His elect. When that happens, it means that we believers will be raptured. That day will be a joyful day. Now is the last days, and the Lord will come back soon. So, we should watchfully wait for His return.

The brothers and sisters all nodded their heads.

Sister Li said, Brother Lin, your fellowship is quite illuminating. Its indeed unreliable to interpret prophecies according to their literal meanings. So what does a great sound of a trumpet in the verse actually refer to? Brother Lin, please fellowship with us.

The brothers and sisters were all transported with joy and were ready to seek and investigate Gods word and work of the last days with Brother Lin.

What Does The Bible Say About Trumpets Blowing

The blowing of the prophetic trumpets is such an important part of Gods plan of salvation for mankind that one of Gods annual holy days pictures these events. The Feast of Trumpets pictures the return of Christ, His judgment upon mankind, and most important, His establishment of the peaceful Kingdom of God here on earth.

What Did Jesus Teach Regarding The Kingdom Of God

During His earthly ministry, Jesus was the representative of the Kingdom of God, and this subject was the basis of His teaching. As Matthew wrote: And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the gospel of the kingdom .

After Jesus death and resurrection, He spent 40 days with His disciples before ascending into heaven. He spent this time speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of God . The Kingdom of God, which has been prepared by God the Father and His Son from the foundation of the world , was clearly the focal point of His teaching.

The Kingdom of God has likewise been the focus of Gods people throughout the ages. Abraham waited for the city which has foundations, whose builder and maker is God , and Jesus instructs us to pray for this Kingdom to come . Additionally, Jesus said that seeking this Kingdom and Gods righteousness is to take priority in our lives .

A parallel reference is 1 Corinthians 15:51-531 Corinthians 15:51-53 Behold, I show you a mystery We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality.American King James Version×, in which Paul plainly tells us that God will resurrect deceased believers to spirit at “the last trumpet.” This is the same “trumpet of God” mentioned in 1 Thessalonians 4:161 Thessalonians 4:16For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:American King James Version×that God will also change believers who are still living at the time into spirit. So the return of Jesus Christ and the resurrection of the saints occur in the same time period.

What is the significance of the trumpet of which Paul wrote? The book of Revelation tells of seven trumpets sounded by seven angelic beings at the end of the age . The drama builds through each event announced by a trumpet blast until the seventh and final angel sounds in Revelation 11. His announcement is the finale, the last and greatest event: The return of Jesus Christ to inaugurate the Kingdom of God on earth.

Corinthians 1: 8 Context

5I would that ye all spake with tongues, but rather that ye prophesied: for greater is he that prophesieth than he that speaketh with tongues, except he interpret, that the church may receive edifying. 6Now, brethren, if I come unto you speaking with tongues, what shall I profit you, except I shall speak to you either by revelation, or by knowledge, or by prophesying, or by doctrine? 7And even things without life giving sound, whether pipe or harp, except they give a distinction in the sounds, how shall it be known what is piped or harped? 8For if the trumpet give an uncertain sound, who shall prepare himself to the battle?9So likewise ye, except ye utter by the tongue words easy to be understood, how shall it be known what is spoken? for ye shall speak into the air. 10There are, it may be, so many kinds of voices in the world, and none of them is without signification. 11Therefore if I know not the meaning of the voice, I shall be unto him that speaketh a barbarian, and he that speaketh shall be a barbarian unto me.

Hear The Sound Of The Trumpet

This instrument can teach us about the role of prophets and how we should treat their words.

âIf when seeth the sword come upon the land, he blow the trumpet, and warn the people

âThen whosoever heareth the sound of the trumpet, and taketh not warning if the sword come, and take him away, his blood shall be upon his own head.

â⦠But he that taketh warning shall deliver his soul.â

Ezekiel 33:3â5.

What Happens After The Seventh Trumpet

Blow the trumpet (Shofar) in Zion.....

After the seventh trumpet, John heard the 24 elders worshipping God . Their praise of God also reveals what conditions will be like at that time.

These elders say that the nations were angry, that Gods wrath has come, that the time for rewarding Gods faithful people has come and that God will soon destroy those who destroyed the earth.

Lets now consider how these end-time events relate to the establishment of the Kingdom of God.

The First Two Trumpets

In Revelation 8:7, John describes an apocalyptic vision. His vision explains the triggering event of the sounding of the first trumpet hail and fire mixed with blood falling to the ground, and approximately 33% of all of the grass and trees in the known world destroyed.

During World War I, large amounts of artillery shells and chemical agents were released on troops for the first time in history through modern warfare, killing over 8 million people. Soldiers on both sides burned vast tracts of land in order to eliminate any natural or man-made items that their enemies could use.

Another war, World War II is also the event that was triggered by the sounding of the second trumpet. Looking to Revelation 8:8-9, the Bible explains that a third of the ships involved in the conflict that coincides with the activation of this trumpet will be destroyed. During World War II, approximately one third of the ships that participated in the conflict were sunk. In turn, the nuclear bomb deployed at Hiroshima resembled something like a great mountain burning with fire, a sight that was new on the world stage.

The Nations Were Angry

In the book of Revelation, seven seals are opened before the blowing of the seven trumpets. The second seal, represented by a rider on a red horse signifies war. War, of course, is what often happens when nations become angry with each other. And Bible prophecy indicates that wars will escalate prior to the return of Christ.

When Jesus gave signs of the end of this present age in His Olivet Discoursesigns which correlate with the seals in the book of RevelationHe said, For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom .

Some of the conflicts between nations during the end times are specifically identified. Bible prophecy indicates that a major conflict will erupt between powers warring over control of the Middle East. At the time of the end the king of the South shall attack him and the king of the North shall come against him like a whirlwind .

In addition to this conflict, Zechariah 14:2 says that in the end all the nations will come together to battle against Jerusalem. When Christ returns, these armies will unite to fight against Him and quickly be overcome .

What We Can Learn

A trumpet:

Has a simple, unmistakable sound. Nephi said, âI glory in plainness I glory in truthâ . Prophets teach the Lordâs word with clarity. As the Apostle Paul said, âIf the trumpet give an uncertain sound, who shall prepare himself to the battle?â .

We gather to seek refuge and strength. Our meetinghouses, temples, and homes can be places of gathering to hear Godâs word so that we can combat evil and rally around the âensign on the mountainsâ .

Warns of coming danger. The watchmen of Israel would raise the alarm by blowing the trumpet. Prophets give us clear warnings of spiritual perils in our time. And we should also remember that âit becometh every man who hath been warned to warn his neighborâ , âin mildness and in meeknessâ .

Prophets also invite us to remember the Lord and His goodness. They call upon us to praise and thank Him and to âmake a joyful noiseâ through our own prayer and testimony.
