Baptism Without Faith Or Understanding

Being baptized twice, is it biblical? | The Old Path

If one was baptized as an infant, thus was lacking personal faith , he should repudiate the meaningless earlier rite in which he had no decision-making power, even though his parents were sincere in subjecting him to the procedure.

In genuine faith, he should submit to the command in the proper way. Infants have neither the need nor the ability to respond to the gospel of Christ.

The same would be true for young children too young or immature to understand their accountability to the plan of salvation.

It is a tender thing to observe young children who want to please God. But many times, their desire precedes their understanding and accountability for personal sin.

If an adult concludes that they need to be re-baptized because they were baptized as an infant or as a sincere but immature child, we would encourage them to be immersed in faith and obedience. Thus, they can be assured of the forgiveness of their sins. Their decision will bring peace of mind and confidence by knowing they are obeying God from the heart with full understanding.

Do You Get Baptized Twice

This is a question our experts keep getting from time to time. Now, we have got the complete detailed explanation and answer for everyone, who is interested!

Asked by: Prof. Antonietta Cremin I

Baptism seals the Christian with the indelible spiritual mark of his belonging to Christ. … Given once for all, Baptism cannot be repeated. The baptisms of those to be received into the Catholic Church from other Christian communities are held to be valid if administered using the Trinitarian formula.

Can You Be Baptized More Than Once

In an ideal world, you should not have to be baptized more than once. Baptism is meant to be a one-time event that is done with a sincere heart toward God. However, because our world is not ideal, getting re-baptized is sometimes necessary.

In the book of Acts, the apostles preached that people should repent, get baptized for the remission of sins, and you will receive the Holy Spirit.

Once new believers would repent and get baptized there is no mention of re-baptism anywhere in the New Testament. This shows us that water baptism was never meant to be a recurring event that happens multiple times in a persons life.

Rather, throughout the New Testament, we see that when someone gives their life to the Lord they immediately get baptized, and then they never get baptized again after that.

But because we do not live in a perfect world, and because its been 2000 years since Christ died for us, there have been some doctrinal errors that cause people to need to get baptized again. This is what we will be addressing more thoroughly throughout this article.

Baptized Twice

The Bible speaks of a group of people who got baptized twice:

And it came to pass, that, while Apollos was at Corinth, Paul having passed through the upper coasts came to Ephesus: and finding certain disciples, he said unto them, have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed?

And they said unto him, we have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost.

And he said unto them, unto what then were ye baptized?

And they said, Unto Johns baptism.

Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus.

When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.

The above passage is referring to Paul, who was preaching in Ephesus. There, he found 12 men who had been baptized by John the Baptist. These Ephesian disciples knew nothing of the baptism of the Spirit and the gifts of the Spirit, and little of the faith in the Savior. This was an experience shared by all those whose baptism is recorded in the book of Acts. So, upon receiving this new light, they were re-baptized. The Spirit came upon them as a provision for the great work that was to change Ephesus from a city wholly devoted to the goddess Artemis into a place won for Christ.

Rebaptism

1-When a person received more light.
2-If a person backslid then came back to the Lord.
3-If a person was baptized in a non-biblical method.

Why Did Joseph and Oliver Seek Authority to Baptize?

Key Bible Verse: 1 Corinthians 12:13

There are many questions regarding Christian baptism, but perhaps one of the most asked questions is, Should you be baptized more than once in life? To answer this questions, it helps to know what water baptism is truly symbolizing?

You Should Be Water Baptized Only Once Because You Are Baptized in the Spirit Once

Despite there being many Christian denominations with widely differing views on the baptism of the Holy Spirit, the Bible makes it abundantly clear that every Christian is baptized in the Spirit once at the moment of their conversion.

For we were all baptized by one Spirit so as to form one bodywhether Jews or Gentiles, slave or freeand we were all given the one Spirit to drink.

And you also were included in Christ when you heard the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation. When you believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, 14 who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are Gods possessionto the praise of his glory.

Notice in 1 Corinthians 10:13 Paul makes clear that we were all baptized by one Spirit. Some charismatic Christians teach that you can be saved but not baptized in the Spirit, which would clearly contradict 1 Corinthians 10:13. Additionally, as Ephesians 1:13-14 explains, Christians were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit. When? When you believed.

Reasons Some Christians Experience Re

Therefore, dont be hasty to join religious organizations. Many of them dictate their members baptism or re-baptism. Some dont even baptize. They ignore the Bibles teaching on this very important spiritual ritual.

Water baptism represents the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Seeing that he died once, then we should only experience baptism once.

In the first instance, if you obeyed his command concerning baptism you dont need to baptize again.

Which Apostle Followed This Command To Get Baptized

The only baptism of an Apostle recorded in the Bible is that of Paul . However, it is reasonable to assume that all of the Apostles were baptized. The reason for this is because Jesus commanded that they evangelize and baptize . It would be odd for Jesus to instruct the Apostles teach something for others that they are not also to apply themselves.

In the early church, followers of Christ were baptized everywhere the Apostles and others went as they preached the Gospel. In fact, in Acts it is described synonymously with the phrase the Lord added to the church . Although we are not in the early church, the new testament Christian church must still emphasize that followers get baptized.

To Be Born Again Means To Distance Yourself From The World And All Evil

Almost everyone knows that the world is a sinful place full of affliction. And everyone who parts with this world, is also a part of its sin:

And I heard another voice from heaven, saying, Come out of her, my people, that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues.

The disciples James and John rightly said:

Adulterers, do you not know that friendship with the world is hostility to God? Whoever wants to be a friend to the world, makes himself the enemy of God!Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God.

Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.

It is really not hard to see that humanity is corrupted and is getting worse day by day. If you are a proud member of the perverted society and tolerate the sins within in it, how can you be a part of Gods kingdom? The customs and standards of this world are in direct oppositon to the will of God. Therefore, friendship with this world means enmity with God.

And we know that we are of God, and the whole world lieth in wickedness.

And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

But Jesus beheld them, and said unto them, With men this is impossible but with God all things are possible.

Can You Be Baptized Twice?

Luther was not claiming to be saved simply because he was baptized. Rather, he rightly perceived the wonder and glory of baptism. He saw the visible, external act of baptism as an objective pointer to the invisible, internal reality of new birth and the faith through which we are saved on the basis of Christ alone. Luther was, after all, the great champion of justification by faith as well as one captivated by the power and grace of baptism.

Yet, as a baptist, I cant help but observe that something was missing in Luthers reminder to himself about his baptism. Luther was what we call a paedobaptist . He himself was baptized as an infant, not in response to a profession of his own faith, but because of the faith of his parents the faith they expected would be manifest someday in their newborn son. Luther himself supported and practiced baptism not only of adult converts, but also of the infants of Christian parents.

How much more powerful would recalling his baptism have been if he actually could have recalled it? What if his baptism would have been an expression of saving faith already plainly present in his soul, rather than just a hope and prayer of his parents?

Why Do Christians Get Baptized The Biblical Answer

Christians Get Baptized Because The Bible Tells Them To

Christians get baptized because the Bible tells them to. Its that simple.

Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned.

Mark 16:16 ESV

We wont be condemned if we arent baptized because it isnt required for salvation. Belief is required.

Even Jesus tells us here in Mark that it is so important, and Peter reiterates this since baptism is an act of appealing to God to receive a good conscience.

Baptism, which corresponds to this, now saves you, not as a removal of dirt from the body but as an appeal to God for a good conscience, through the resurrection of Jesus Christ,

1 Peter 3:21 ESV

When we are baptized, it is meant to wash away all of our sin, guilt, and shame. It reveals to us how we are now in right standing with God and how we have a good conscience before Him.

John The Baptists Birth

When Zechariah was able to speak again at the babys birth, he confirmed that the boy was to be named John. Zechariah celebrated with his neighbors, worshipping God and prophesying over his son.

And you, my child, will be called a prophet of the Most High for you will go on before the Lord to prepare the way for him, to give his people the knowledge of salvation through the forgiveness of their sins, because of the tender mercy of our God, by which the rising sun will come to us from heaven to shine on those living in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the path of peace .

At a young age, John was taken to be raised in the wild – a harsh and probably lonely lifestyle. But he was actually following in the footsteps of many other prophets who had come before.

The isolation they experienced while away from their community brought them closer to God and sharpened their focus on the work He had for them. And John was able to remain uninfluenced there by the religious and political leaders that he was called to oppose.

And the child grew and became strong in spirit and he lived in the wilderness until he appeared publicly to Israel .

During these years, Johns heart and passions became firmly aligned with Gods purposes. So when God called him, he was ready to obey.

What Happened In Your First Baptism

If you agree that the biblical picture of baptism involves both immersion and a commitment, does this picture line up with your previous baptism? A commitment, in other words, involves repentance. This is the idea of a person who, as described earlier, has put to death the sinful man. Such a persons life is no longer under control of passions and desires of the flesh . Instead, they are controlled by the will of Christ and the Holy Spirit. True repentance involves a change that results in the bearing of fruit.

For godly grief produces a repentance that leads to salvation without regret, whereas worldly grief produces death. For see what earnestness this godly grief has produced in you, but also what eagerness to clear yourselves, what indignation, what fear, what longing, what zeal, what punishment! At every point you have proved yourselves innocent in the matter.

2 Corinthians 7:10-11

Did you experience repentance in your first baptism? If not, perhaps this was not a real baptism. True baptism is both commitment and a burial of the old man and resurrection . Other verses describe the process of change as being born again , which is a very profound statement. In other words, to follow Jesus involves more than on a one-time statement.

Can A Christian Be Baptized Twice

In order to answer your question properly, we should ask a few more questions:

WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF BAPTISM? Romans 6:3-6 tells us, Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death? Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection: Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin. We see in this portion that water baptism is symbolic of the death, burial and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ. By being baptized unto Jesus we were baptized unto His death. We IDENTIFY with the Lord, owning that we, too, have died, were buried, and risen a new creature when we put our faith in our savior. This act of identification is also our public proclamation of our belief in the Lord Jesus. Having done so, we are told to walk in newness of life and we should not serve sin. Colossians 2:12 speaks of this water baptism. It says, Buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with him through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead.
