Press On To Know God In His Word

Finally, Robert, press on with your listening, by all means, in the truck. May God fill you with a spirit of wisdom and of revelation, like Paul prays, as you listen and drive , and may he open the eyes of your heart to see glorious things in his word . Thats our goal, whether were reading or listening to the Bible. We want to see him more clearly and love him more dearly and follow him more nearly as the song says. The way he has appointed for that to happen is by the word of God.

Every Christian Should Have An Audio Bible As Part Of Their Daily Bible Study Routine

  • Every Christian should have an audio bible as part of their daily bible study routine.
  • You may be wondering, What is an audio bible? Its a recording of the entire Biblefrom Genesis to Revelationread aloud by a narrator. The advantage of having one is that you can listen to it while doing other tasks or while on the go! You might even find yourself listening while walking around town, washing dishes, or driving in your car. Its just that convenient!
  • Audio bibles are also great for those who want to learn more about Gods word but dont have time for long-term studies or reading through large books . The audio format allows them to absorb more information than they could otherwise this especially helps with memorizing key scriptures and understanding biblical themes throughout history so they can apply these truths today.

Best Ways To Listen To The Bible

Holy Bible: Matthew 1 to 28 – Full (Contemporary English) With Text

Im going to be talking about audio Bibles next week on @redeemingprod and Im curious:

Whats your favorite way of listening to the Bible? What apps, audiobook Bibles, websites, etc. do you use?

For most of church history the only way to hear from the Word of God was to have it read aloud to you. But while most of us thankfully now have access to printed Bibles, listening to the Word is still a great way to take in the Scriptures. And now because of advances in technology, we can listen to the Bible at almost any time.

The great thing about listening to the Bible is you can do it while you are otherwise occupied. Driving, exercising, or even just cleaning up around the house become opportunities to redeem the time by listening to the very words of God.

Last week I asked on Twitter what your favorite ways of listening to the Bible are and got a ton of great responses:

I sifted through those responses and created a list of my five picks for the best way to listen to the Bible. You can watch the video here or keep reading for a summary of the five best ways to listen to the Bible.

There are options here for everyone, from apps to podcasts to good old-fashioned audio books.

When the books of the Bible were first written, most recipients experienced them with their ears. The apostle Pauls letters, for example, were read aloud to the local church communities who received them.

Listening is a great way for you to experience the Bible, too. Whether youre not much of a reader, or you want to take Gods Word with you wherever you go, try listening to the Bible.

We Must Be Willing To Stop And Deal With God

Are you willing, Robert, or any of us, to pull over and stop driving in order to bring your full heart focus to bear on some word or thought or feeling that God has just used to deeply move you?

I ask this because of how many people just the other day, another one have told me over the years, that at certain points in a sermon, theyre driving, they were listening, and they were so moved that they had to pull over and deal with God and handle the emotions without the distraction of driving. I think everybody who listens to the Bible while driving or doing anything else should be willing to do that.

We All Process Hearing And Reading Differently

Peoples brains are very different in the way we process what is read and what is heard. My children were very different in this regard. Some people can hear and remember almost everything that they hear, but they dont have anywhere near the same recall when they read, and vice versa.

So, for that reason alone, I would need to say to Robert that depending on the way God made you, listening might bear even more fruit than reading. I dont know it could. He asked if its the same, and I dont know it could be better.

All Desire For The Bible Is Glorious

It is a beautiful, supernatural, miraculous gift from God that Robert desires to listen to the Bible at all while he drives his truck across eastern Canada. Thats the first thing that comes to my mind: that he has any desire at all for Gods word is a glorious thing because millions of people millions care nothing for the Bible. Its tragic. Its heartbreaking.

God has spoken God, the Creator of the universe, has spoken and millions and millions of people pay no attention. Now, heres a man whose heart inclines to hear the word of God, and thats glorious.

Jacob Wrestles With God

22 That night Jacob got up and took his two wives, his two female servants and his eleven sons and crossed the ford of the Jabbok.23 After he had sent them across the stream, he sent over all his possessions.24 So Jacob was left alone, and a man wrestled with him till daybreak.25 When the man saw that he could not overpower him, he touched the socket of Jacobs hip so that his hip was wrenched as he wrestled with the man.26 Then the man said, Let me go, for it is daybreak.

But Jacob replied, I will not let you go unless you bless me.

27 The man asked him, What is your name?

Jacob, he answered.

28 Then the man said, Your name will no longer be Jacob, but Israel, because you have struggled with God and with humans and have overcome.

29 Jacob said, Please tell me your name.

But he replied, Why do you ask my name? Then he blessed him there.

30 So Jacob called the place Peniel, saying, It is because I saw God face to face, and yet my life was spared.

31 The sun rose above him as he passed Peniel, and he was limping because of his hip.32 Therefore to this day the Israelites do not eat the tendon attached to the socket of the hip, because the socket of Jacobs hip was touched near the tendon.

Why Use A Dramatized Audio Bible

When your group listens to the Bible, you could either:

  • Take turns reading out loud, or
  • Use an audio Bible
  • Reading out loud has some advantages. It requires no audio equipment, and it can be good for student groups that want to practice public speaking. However, some people are reluctant to read out loud because theyre not great readers or they dont know how to pronounce some of the strange names in the Bible.

Using an audio Bible, especially a high quality drama Bible, brings Gods Word to life. Its recommended because:

    • You dont need to decide who is going to read.
    • The reader doesnt need to take any breaks.
    • Dramatization engages your imagination and helps you understand the context.
    • It works with all literacy levels and ages.

All you have to do is press play.

    Wonderful Tool For Discipleship

There are so many positive things I could say about Dwell but a top three would be the following: First, Dwell is an app that has something to offer everyone. Whether you are just beginning a rhythm of regular Bible reading or are a lifelong Christian who desires a new, beautiful and accessible way to engage scripture, Dwells myriad reading plans, translations, devotional series, and interactive features allow one to tailor the app to their individual needs. Second, Dwell is always evolving to become a better, fuller Bible reading experience. The recent update which implemented the read along feature changed the game. I used to need to grab my Bible, make sure it was the right translation, and then follow along that way. But now, I can listen and read along all in the app. I trust that the Dwell team will only keep revising and improving the app experience. Third, and most importantly, it is so evident that the Dwell teams motivation for creating this app is that they love the Lord and, by way of this app, they want to enable and foster a love of Bible reading in others. The result is a wonderful tool of discipleship that is always improving and accessible to all people regardless of where they are in their journey of faith. I love this app so much, I cant recommend it highly enough!
