Running the Race | Bible Story | LifeKids

1 Corinthians 9:24-27Know ye not that they which run in a race run all, but one receiveth the prize? So run, that ye may obtain. And every man that striveth for the mastery is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a corruptible crown but we an incorruptible. I therefore so run, not as uncertainly so fight I, not as one that beateth the air: But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway.

Hebrews 12:1-2Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.

But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength they shall mount up with wings as eagles they shall run, and not be weary and they shall walk, and not faint.

Philippians 3:13-14Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.

Philippians 4:13I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.

Philippians : 12 Variation Of Race

Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already arrived at my goal, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me.

~ Philippians 3:12

God has set out for you a unique race that will lead you on an adventure. The path that leads to a life like Jesus is the same for everyone, but the journey varies from person to person. So avoid comparing your track to that of another person.

Isaiah : 18 Avoiding Distractions

Remember ye not the former things, neither consider the things of old.

~Isaiah 43:18

The primary requirement is a daily period of focused, one-on-one personal communion with God. Practicing the Presence of God is well-known to many readers, and its a great habit to develop.

However, the cornerstone of it needs to be a daily period of focused, intimate communication with God.

What Does It Mean To Run The Race According To Paul

The race that the Apostle Paul is talking about is our journey of faith. We all run the race of life. The question is, which team are we running for? With endurance, the race can be won. God called us and made us holy. But it does not end there. God equipped us and empowered us to enable us to win the prize. Life is not always simple nor is it always easy, but God is there for us. He is running with us.

It was because of a revelation that I went up and I submitted to them the gospel which I preach among the Gentiles, but I did so in private to those who were of reputation, for fear that I might be running, or had run, in vain.

Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but only one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may win.Everyone who competes in the games exercises self-control in all things. They then do it to receive a perishable wreath, but we an imperishable. Therefore I run in such a way, as not without aim I box in such a way, as not beating the air read more.but I discipline my body and make it my slave, so that, after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified.

How Does Focusing On Jesus Help Us Run The Race

Hebrews 12:2b-3 says, For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Consider him who endured such opposition from sinners, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.

Jesus paved the way for our race by finishing His victoriously, showing us what it means to run with endurance and eyes fixed on the finish line. Joyfully, Jesus endured what none of us could so that through His suffering and resurrection, we might have the privilege of running this race of faith for our reward, Jesus Christ.

Throwing Off The Sin That Entangles Us

If were to keep chugging along on the right path, we cant do so if were constantly tripping up. The writer of Hebrews describes it this way:

let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.

In the sporting events of the ancient world, competitors usually ran in a much more natural way than athletes do today. Long before the days of special sprinting attire, the clothes of the time either had to be tied up away from the legs or taken off before running. Otherwise, the runner would get tangled up and fall on his face.

Our Christian race isnt much different. We cant run very well if were bound up in the snares of sinful living. Those things that seem so satisfying in the moment can take our eyes off the prize , and instead, keep us fixated on temporary thrills. But were called to a much better path:

For if you live according to the sinful nature, you will die but if by the Spirit you put to death the misdeeds of the body, you will live

Life works best when we follow Gods Word and obey His commands in the Bible. He didnt give us those commands to trap us, but to free us to run our race with endurance. When we do so, our true goal comes into view.

Acts : 24 Run Your Race In Obedience

But none of these things move me, neither count I my life dear unto myself, so that I might finish my course with joy, and the ministry, which I have received of the Lord Jesus, to testify the gospel of the grace of God.

~ Acts 20:24

Paul is talking about his long-time friends in the church at Corinth who had just heard that Paul was planning to visit them. This passage in Acts is significant because it shows us what our Lord thinks of us. If we truly love Him, then we will obey His commands.

In this passage, Paul tells them something very encouraging: He has always been faithful to God. He hasnt been careless at all times in his life! What a great testimony for us all.

Run On The Right Path

Run The Race (Hebrews 12:1) Steve Lawson

You are not going to run on a path of thorns and you are not going to run on a rocky surface with cleats on. Cleats on a rocky surface represent sin and things holding you back to run effectively on your run with God.

13. Hebrews 12:1 Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us.

14. Proverbs 4:26-27 Give careful thought to the paths for your feet and be steadfast in all your ways. Do not turn to the right or the left keep your foot from evil.

15. Isaiah 26:7 But for those who are righteous, the way is not steep and rough. You are a God who does what is right, and you smooth out the path ahead of them.

16. Proverbs 4:18-19 The path of the righteous is like the light of dawn, shining brighter and brighter until midday. But the way of the wicked is like the darkest gloom they dont know what makes them stumble.

Why Did Paul Use Running As A Metaphor

The main reason why Bible writers use metaphors is to connect with people. They have the best messages the world can ever receive, but it would be useless if people are not able to understand them. The Olympics was highly and widely celebrated in Rome during those times. Sports was the hot topic. Everyone makes sure that they are updated.

Paul saw the opportunity to use sports and more specifically, a marathon, to explain to believers what they should expect in this race. He then compared every aspect of the race to the life of believers.

Christian Quotes About Running

Do not be lazy. Run each days race with all your might, so that at the end you will receive the victory wreath from God. Keep on running even when you have had a fall. The victory wreath is won by him who does not stay down, but always gets up again, grasps the banner of faith and keeps on running in the assurance that Jesus is Victor. Basilea Schlink

I didnt feel like running today. Which is exactly why I went.

The race is not always to the swift but to him who keeps on running.

Sometimes the best runs come on days you didnt feel like running.

Running is not about being better than someone else, its about being better than you used to be.

Run when you can, walk if you have to, crawl if you must just never give up.

If youre running a 26-mile marathon, remember that every mile is run one step at a time. If you are writing a book, do it one page at a time. If youre trying to master a new language, try it one word at a time. There are 365 days in the average year. Divide any project by 365 and youll find that no job is all that intimidating. Chuck Swindoll

I think Christians fail so often to get answers to their prayers because they do not wait long enough on God. They just drop down and say a few words, and then jump up and forget it and expect God to answer them. Such praying always reminds me of the small boy ringing his neighbors door-bell, and then running away as fast as he can go. E.M. Bounds

Finishing The Race With Joy

265420420420Scripture: Acts 20:22~24 – And see, now I go bound in the spirit to Jerusalem, not knowing the things that will happen to me there, 23 except that the Holy Spirit testifies in every city, saying that chains and tribulations await me. 24 But none of these things move me nor do I count my life dear to myself, so that I may finish my race with joy, and the ministry which I received from the Lord Jesus, to testify to the gospel of the grace of God.

Corinthians : 24 The Prize For The Race

Know ye not that they which run in a race run all, but one receiveth the prize? So run, that ye may obtain.

~ 1 Corinthians 9:24

This race is not just about others. The competition is a daily race to become more like Christ. In many ways, we compete with ourselves rather than other people.

Do you now resemble Jesus more than you did yesterday? In that there is a battle within the soul, the race is a conflict.

Our tendency is toward wickedness and sloth. Therefore, you must practice the disciplines and engage in the activities required to become a more mature follower of Christ.

You compete in a race as a follower of Jesus Christ. It is also a once-in-a-lifetime race. It also takes over your thinking. It also takes up your waking hours. It also takes on the role of being your lifes main priority. But, you live for it, just like it.

What Is Needed To Run The Race For Jesus

In 1 Corinthians 9:26, Paul says were not to run aimlessly or box as one beating the air. Like a physical race, the spiritual one also requires diligence, training, and self-denial. If we observed the regimen of a long-distance runner, we would notice specific choices they make to prepare and run the race. These choices mirror our race as well:

Runners eat clean. Remember the saying you are what you eat? Its true both physically and spiritually. Jeremiah 15:16 says, When your words came, I ate them they were my joy and my hearts delight, for I bear your name, LORD God Almighty. Clean eating, or eating foods in their natural state, help our physical bodies to operate at a more efficient level. When we meditate or chew on Scripture, we spiritually digest it, just as we digest the food we eat. The pure Word of God meshes with everything we think and do, radically aiding our ability to run the race before us. When we eat clean, our focus remains sharp, keeping us alert to the enemys schemes.

Runners pace themselves. The Christian race is a marathon, not a sprint, meaning that consistency, not the speed at which we run, is the key. Weve all known those who wear themselves out only to burn out. Theyre sitting on the sidelines, and if they remain and dont finish the race, they wont forfeit heaven, but they will forfeit the rewards that await. We do serve God, but He cares more about who we are becoming than what we are doing.

How Do We Run The Race

Hebrews 11 and Hebrews 12 refer to the runners as people of faith, those whose lives are heading toward their Master, Jesus. Run the race verses teach us how to run. They instruct us to reach a faithful end.

1. The race begins with salvation.

For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast .

As depicted in the run the race verses, we run by Gods grace alone. This gift of salvation lifts the burden of personal merit. We are saved through Christ alone, the perfect sacrifice for our sins. His work through death and resurrection accomplished what our own struggle to gain eternal life cannot.

What Does The Bible Say About Running

Children’s Sermon Bible Lesson using KAYAKS – Running the Race 1 Corinthians 9:24

Running of all kinds whether jogging, doing marathons, etc. reminds me of the Christian life. It might hurt, but you have to keep on running. Some days you might feel so discouraged and feel like you have let God down and because of it you might feel like quitting.

But the Spirit inside Christians will never allow Christians to quit. You must run understanding Gods grace. Even days when you dont feel like running you have to run. Think about the love of Christ. He kept on moving through humiliation.

He kept on moving through the pain. His mind was on Gods great love for Him. It is the love of God that will motivate you to keep pushing. Know that when you keep moving something is happening to you. You are doing Gods will. You are transforming spiritually and physically. These verses are to inspire Christian runners to run not only for exercise, but to also run the Christian race.

Philippians : 13 Christ Your Strength Through The Race

I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.

~ Philippians 4:13

I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me. This portion of the bible tells us that God, not we, is the source of our strength to complete our course .

So begin everyday endurance running under His power. Set aside all the burdens and sins that are around you. Determination to run the course that God has set before you and live to satisfy Him.

It is never too late to come back on the path that leads to life, whether you have left the race or are falling behind. Along the way, dont forget to inspire as many Christians as possible.
