Why Does The Bible Say Not To Fear

As we all know with living in society today, fear is something that is entangled in every aspect of our lives. According to statistical studies, more than 30% of adults in the United States struggle with anxiety disorders or phobias. Our fears can cause us to trust in things, people, places, idols, etc., instead of trusting in the One who created and breathed them into life. Pastor Rick Warren stresses that peoples fears are rooted in the belief that God is out to condemn them through their trials and hurts instead of remembering that this is not so because of Jesus sacrifice. This caters to fear of God in the Old Testament, where people followed the Law set by God in fear that if they didnt, He would take away His favor from them and unleash hell. However, through Jesuss sacrifice and resurrection, people now have a Savior who took the punishment for those sins and brings us to a place where God only wants to offer love, peace, and the opportunity to serve alongside Him.

  • Ways The Bible Teaches Us Not To Fear

The Bible says " DO NOT FEAR" 365 times.

The Bible instructs us in ways to fight against the strongholds of fear, but none mean doing the fighting on our own. God is in our corner, wanting to fight our battles, so these are five ways the Bible teaches us not to fear by letting God take over.

    1. If you take your fears to God, He will destroy them for you.

Isaiah 35:4 says that those with fearful hearts can feel strong in the face of fear, knowing that God is there and will save you from the fears, delivering sweet vengeance as well. What is meant here is that while it may or may not mean that cancer, job loss, death of a child, or depression goes away immediately, God will take away the fear you might have that things wont change, bringing you love, hope, and strength to keep going.

    2. If you take your fears to God, you wont be left without answers.

    3. If you take your fears to God, you will see more of how much He loves and cares for you.

One of the most treasured Scriptures from 1 Peter is the one stating to Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you . We all know, or at least have heard of, that God loves us immensely. But when reading this Scripture verse, you realize that He wants you to give Him your fears because He loves you. Similar to how some earth-bound dads will ask about your problems and try to solve them for you, because they love you, God is the same that He doesnt want your fears to overshadow the love He can demonstrate by taking away those fears.

    Hopeful Bible Verses About Fear

“You shall not fear them, for it is the LORD your God who fights for you.”

Fear can creep up on us when we least expect it. Sure, theres fear we can kind of expect when we subject ourselves to that yearly walk through one of the most haunted places in America on Halloween or sit down with some popcorn to watch a scary movie. But where do we turn with the other, more significant fears? Things like watching a loved one go through cancer treatment, or the potential of losing a job, having a miscarriage, or getting into a car accident. Unfortunately, there isnt a limit to what our brains can concoct that is potentially fearful, some of it legitimate and some of it irrational. Either way, we can find hope and an anchor in the storm that is our fear in Jesus because he has a lot to say about fear in scripture. Fear not is a common reminder in the Word, because we are often forgetful and we can try to imagine the future before it has even happenedleading to a lot of fear and anxiety. Jesus reminds us that we can trust God as our good Father. He will fight for us. He will cover us and protect us. He will calm the storms in our minds and hearts. All he asks is that we turn our eyes from our fears to Him.

Faith vs Fear – What Does The Bible Say? – Fear Not God is With Us – Jesus Christ

Years ago someone told me that fear not was found in the Bible 365 times once for each day of the year. I thought about printing my own calendar and placing a different fear not verse on each day. What a source of hope and confidence it would be to begin each and every day by meditating on the fact that we dont have to fear whatever we have to face.

Much to my chagrin, fear not nor any of its close derivatives can be found in the Bible 365 times. Personal friend and close colleague, Pastor Nathan Boehm, took the time to do further research on this subject and posted his findings on his blog that I recommend for your reading .

Although not found 365 times in the Bible, fear not was spoken as an imperative from the lips of Jesus, and therefore should be taken as a direct command to be adhered.

There are many earthly reasons to fear today the failing economy, bad reports from the doctor, global unrest, terrorist threats, and hopeless predictions from political prognosticators just to name a few.

However, as followers of Christ we have greater reasons to fear not God will not fail you , God will not forsake you , God is with you , God will help you , God knows you by name , God can do marvelous things , It is Gods pleasure to give you the kingdom , and Christ is the First and the Last .

Simply put, Jesus said, Do not fear . Hearing it once from Jesus is just as good as hearing it 365 times. He said it, that settles it!

    Fear Not In The Epistles

The King James Version of the Bible is one such book. The writer of this passage emphasized that it is a warning for us. When we are afraid, we must remind ourselves that God is Omnipotent. He is the only one who is Omniscient, omnipotent, and the source of our strength. The implication is clear: when we are scared, we should turn to God and trust in Him.

The phrase fear not is used more than one hundred times in the Bible: in the Old Testament it appears more than 100 times, and in the New Testament it is used 44 times. The number of instances depends on the Greek and Hebrew words used. It has synonyms like cowardly, dismayed, anxious, and worried. While this is an encouraging passage, it is also important to note that it is not intended to be interpreted as a command to fear.

The word fear not is found in the Old Testament over 100 times and in the New Testament 44 times. Although the exact count is difficult to calculate, it is clear that the phrase is a call to fear, and that God does not want anyone to be afraid. The expression can mean many different things, including cowardly, worried, anxious, and dismayed. Regardless of the original language, it is a clear and encouraging reminder that God is on the side of those who are afraid.
