Women In The Bible: Joanna
Joanna is one of the few women whose story is told in all four of the Gospels. She was a follower of Jesus Christ.
After Christs resurrection, Joanna was one of the women who provided for Christs disciples financially.
Joanna is an important figure in the Bible because she shows that women can play a vital role in spreading the Gospel.
Her story reminds us that everyone has a part to play in Gods plan.

Women In The Bible: Sarah
Sarah is a wife and mother who was chosen by God to be the founding matriarch of Israel. Her story teaches us about faithfulness and obedience.
Sarah was one of the most important women of the Bible. She was the wife of Abraham and the mother of Isaac. Sarah was also a great example of faith.
Even though she was old, she believed that God would give her a son. And she was right!
God did give her a son, and Sarah named him Isaac, which means he who laughs.
Sarah is an important figure in the Old Testament. She is a role model of faith for all believers and an example of how God keeps His promises.
Sarah is an important woman in the Bible because she teaches us that we can always trust God.
Women In The Bible: Abigail
Abigail is best known for her beauty, but her story is much more complex than that.
She was the wife of Nabal, a wealthy sheep rancher. When Nabal insulted King David, Abigail intervened on his behalf.
She quickly gathered a load of food and went to meet David, hoping to appease him before he took revenge on her husband.
Her plan was successful, and David was so impressed by her wisdom that he married her after Nabal died.
Abigail is an important figure in the Bible because she shows that women can be both beautiful and intelligent.
She used her wit and charm to diffuse a potentially dangerous situation, and in doing so, she demonstrated the power of peaceful negotiation.
Although she is not as well-known as some of the other women in the Bible, Abigail is a powerful example of a woman who used her gifts to make a difference.

Rahab: Ancestor Of Jesus
Rahab was a Canaanite woman with a less than desirable occupation. The Bible describes her as a harlot and a prostitute. If you are going to share this incredible story of the Lord using unlikely people, be prepared to answer questions concerning her occupation. For younger kids, be mindful of how you do this.
In the days when the Israelites camped outside of Jericho, Joshua sent spies to check on the city. When the king of Jericho discovered spies in the city, he went to Rahab knowing the men had been to her house. Rahab hid the spies in her home and prepared to speak to the king.
She told the king that the men had in fact come to her home, but they had already left. The king left and continued his search for the spies. Why would Rahab do this? She was not a Hebrew woman. Her city was going to be destroyed, what would she gain from harboring two Israelite spies?
Rahab knew of the Hebrew God. She knew of His goodness and His strength. For we have heard how the Lord dried up the water of the Red Sea before you when you came out of Egypt, and what you did to the two kings of the Amorites who were beyond the Jordan, to Sihon and Og, whom you devoted to destruction. 11 And as soon as we heard it, our hearts melted, and there was no spirit left in any man because of you, for the Lord your God, he is God in the heavens above and on the earth beneath.

The Canaanite Woman Of Faith
While we dont know the name of this woman, we do know that she also had remarkable faith and boldly sought Jesus. Her daughter was tormented by demons and she knew who could set her free. Jesus saw how truly great her faith was and granted her request.

Tamar Daughter Of David
The story of Tamar is a literary unit consisting of seven parts. According to Frymer-Kensky, the story “has received a great deal of attention as a superb piece of literature, and several have concentrated on explicating the artistry involved.”:399 This story focuses on three of King David‘s children, Amnon the first born, Absalom the beloved son, and his beautiful sister Tamar.:38
Amnon desires Tamar deeply. Immediately after explaining Amnon’s desire the narrator first uses the term sister to reveal Tamar is not only Absalom’s sister but is also Amnon’s sister by another mother. Phyllis Trible says the storyteller “stresses family ties for such intimacy exacerbates the coming tragedy.” Full of lust, the prince is impotent to act Tamar is a virgin and protected property. Then comes a plan from his cousin Jonadab, “a very crafty man.”:39
Jonadab’s scheme to aid Amnon pivots on David the king. Amnon pretends to be sick and David comes to see him.:43 He asks that his sister Tamar make him food and feed him. The king orders it sending a message to Tamar.:44 Amnon sends the servants away. Alone with her brother she is vulnerable, but Tamar claims her voice. Frymer-Kensky says Tamar speaks to Amnon with wisdom, but she speaks to a foolish man. She attempts to dissuade him, then offers the alternative of marriage, and tells him to appeal to the king. He does not listen, and rapes her.:45

Quickname three well-known women from the early days of American history and three from the modern era. Martha Washington, Abigail Adams, and Betsy Ross might come to mind from Americas early days. When we think of female leaders in the Bible, Deborah is usually the first one to come to mind. And there is a good reason for that. She was an influential woman, who understood her authority as a judge, prophetess and as a woman.
She never felt the need to suppress the men around her, but came to be an aid and ally. Yet, Barak knew Deborah was close to the Lord and was willing to lay down his pride and give Deborah even more honor for the sake of Isreal.

Now a certain woman named Lydia heard us. She was a seller of purple from the city of Thyatira, who worshiped God. The Lord opened her heart to heed the things spoken by Paul. Acts 16:14
Lydia was a seller of purple. That was a BIG deal back in the day. Purple cloth was reserved for the wealthy or royal. You can read more about purple cloth in my post The Biblical Meaning of Colors.
So, it extremely plausible that Lydia was well off. Does that make her leader? NOPE. Money doesnt qualify or disqualify you for leadership. What sets Lydia apart is an eagerness to be hospitable to those around her and that she was a businesswoman.
In that day in age men led and supported the household. This would either make Lydia a widow or an unmarried woman. Either way, it didnt stop her! She was industrious and giving. Giving support where it was needed within the body of Christ.
She is a godly example that women can be entrepreneurs and help support the work of God.
Amazing Women From The Bible To Inspire Girls
It can be easy to read the Bible and only see the stories of the amazing menAbraham, Isaac, and Jacob. Elijah and Elisha. David and Solomon. Peter and James and John. But the Bible has lots of stories of incredible women too. Strong and brave women who led armies and challenged kings. Prophetesses who heard and obeyed the voice of God. Wise women who made difficult decisions and led the people back to God. Loyal women who stayed faithful to God even when their situations seemed perilous. Women who did the right thing no matter what everyone else was doing, and changed the course of history forever.
