Which Book Of The Bible Should I Read

To Round Out The Top Ten

What Book Of The Bible Should I Read First?

These four books are letters written to churches that were established after Jesus death and resurrection, addressing various spiritual concerns in each church. These books will help you to understand God even more and help you to learn how to live a victorious life in Jesus.

The important thing in all this is to read Gods Word. That is one of the main ways to get know who God the Father, Jesus the Son, and the Holy Spirit are. God wants to be the central part of your life. He wants you to know and trust Him for everything you need.

There is always more to learn from Gods Word. I have been reading it for over 25 years, and I am still learning new things all the time.

Dont wait. Sit down right now and get to know the God, who loves you more than words could ever say.

Here is a brief summary of each book on the list, so you can get an idea of the overall storyline. Itll also help you to know what to expect as you read.

Genesis

God created a perfect world without brokenness. Adam and Eve depart from Gods way and go their own way, leading mankind into the brokenness that results from sin and death. God sets into motion a plan of redemption by choosing Abraham, a man of faith. God promises Abraham land and descendants who will become the nation of Israel to bless all the peoples of the earth .

Exodus

God delivered Israel from their oppressors in Egypt. God makes a covenant with them on Mount Sinai. God will bless them as a nation if they will follow in His ways and follow His Laws. The Tabernacle is built and the Ark of the Covenant is placed in it, symbolizing Gods dwelling with mankind. Genesis and Exodus are 2 of the 5 books of the Law.

If Youre Up For A Little Bit Of Practical Wisdom And Life Lessons Read Proverbs:

Proverbs contains the wisdom of Solomon and are considered to be an easy read. There are thirty-one chapters of proverbs and, if you were interested, could be broken into a month-long daily devotional. Proverbs is also full of great quotes that youll end up using when you provide advice to family and friends.

If you end up really liking Proverbs, move on to reading Job and Ecclesiastes. Some of the language is equally poetic and figurative like Proverbs, but there are a ton of focal points on what it means to live well engrained in the text.

The Bible Book You Should Read Next

What book of the Bible should I read next?

Its a common question among believers. And we tend to make our decision based on two factors.

First, we wonder how to avoid boredom. How do we keep the desire for Gods Word aflame when it becomes increasingly familiar? Familiarity breeds contempt, so we have heard. That may not always be true, though familiarity can breed other vices like thoughtless skimming or the I-already-know-this attitude. We think that reading a less familiar book of the Bible may restore our interest in the Bible as a whole.

Second, we want to make sure we are well-rounded students of Scripture. Each of us, when faced with so many books-within-a-book, will prefer some of them to others. We enjoy certain genres, while unintentionally neglecting others. So we may decide to open a less familiar book of the Bible to help us have a more balanced understanding of the Bible.

Naturally, having finished one of the 66 books of the Bible, we ask: Whats next? 65 options would overwhelm anyone! If youre paralyzed by biblical where-to-go-itis, let me offer a cure.

Books Of The Bible To Reread : Ephesians

What Book of the Bible Should I Read First?

During a low point in my life, I memorized the opening verses of this book to remind myself of the many reasons I had to be grateful. Paul’s letter to the Ephesians begins with an inspiring description of the blessings and grace that are ours in Christ, and I always return to it when I need reassurance.

Ephesians reminds us we are saved by grace through faith in Jesus Christ alone. It contains a powerful reminder of our identity and purpose: “For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do” .

This book also covers topics helpful for Christian living, like unity in the body of Christ, counsel for husbands, wives, and families, as well as how to engage in spiritual warfare so we can stand firm in our faith.

The Gospel Of Mark Is About Discipleship

The purpose of Marks Gospel is discipleship. Thats the main point. As my ESV Study Bible tells me, The ultimate purpose and theme of Mark is to present and defend Jesus universal call to discipleship. Discipleship means walking with Jesus. Its a call to love and obey Jesus, to emulate his character, and to be prepared to suffer as he did. This is something a new believer needs to grasp. This is why the Gospel of Mark is a great start.

Im thankful that a new believer would ask this question. Its evidence of Gods grace. I remember when I first fell in love with the Scriptures and how I longed to know the Word. I still do long to know it more than ever before. But I didnt get this way overnight. Everybody has to start somewhere and few places of the Bible are better for new believers than the Gospel according to Mark.

Revelation Hope In Our Current Circumstance

This one might surprise you as a book Christians dont read enough as its a well-known one. But many people stay away from Revelation as it instills fear, since it talks about the end times and things that will happen in the future. Most of us stray away from reading such fearful things ahead of us.

However, when you actually read through it, this book often times gives you more hope than fear. Its a reminder that some of the most dreadful days and circumstances we are experiencing today, will one day be over. Revelation 21:4 says God will wipe away every tear from their eyes there should be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away.

Revelation is a book full of hope and keeping a kingdom perspective. Reminding us that what we are experiencing now is for a purpose and is not forever. The pain is not forever. The hurt, the crying, the death, none of those will last. For our Lord is coming back for us, and that day will be glorious is every aspect as we see our king riding in on a white horse .

Read The Whole Bible For Your Own Joy

Reading the whole Bible will clarify and deepen your knowledge of Godand by knowledge, I mean your personal relationship with him.

We know that God is the main character of the Bible. We also know that the Bible isnt an end in itselfits the means by which we know God . The triune God speaks to us through his Word.

Say youve known a friend for years. You can list her interests, quote her insights, even recount anecdotes from various eras of her life. But youve never heard her tell her own story from beginning to end. Perhaps you can name an ambition or two of hers, but youre not certain where she hopes her future takes her.

Often, this is how we relate to God. We know bits about him, but weve never taken the time to hear him out on his plans from beginning to end.

Now, back to your friend. Imagine the benefit to your relationship if you sat down to hear her life story. So many of the scattered fragments would fall into place, organized around the big narrative. Likewise, when we read the whole Bible, we hear Gods story from eternity past to eternity future. We see his character in the way he promises, purposes, and delivers.

As you read Gods whole story one thing about him will be wonderfully clarified for youhis goodness. Sometimes were blind to Gods goodness because we base our understanding of him on small parts of the Bible, rather than the whole.

The Rest Of The New Testament

WHERE Should I Start Reading the Bible? // Mike Novotny // Time of Grace

After Pauls Letters, people should read Hebrews to Revelation, minus James and 1 John because they appear earlier in the suggested reading order list. The books in this section include:

  • Revelation

A person can read these books in order. However, a suggested reading order based on the books that are easiest to read would be Jude, 2 and 3 John, Hebrews, 1 and 2 Peter, and then Revelation.

Nehemiah God Will Fight For You

After 70 years in exile, the Jews had returned to Jerusalem, but the city itself was in ruins. Nehemiah sets out on a task and purpose to rebuild the walls for his people. Nehemiah is not only a leader, but a man of prayer. The longest recorded prayer in the Bible is actually written in Nehemiah 9.

This book is a must-read because there is actually some spiritual battle going on in it that we can learn from the same spiritual battle we fight in our everyday lives. Its a reminder that God will fight for us just as He did Nehemiah.

Nehemiah drew the attention of his enemies, Sanballat and Tobiah, who were deeply disturbed when he began the work of rebuilding the walls of Jerusalem. They employed a variety of strategies to divert Nehemiah from his task. These strategies are the same ones the enemy uses today. However, just like Nehemiah, we can build our own counterstrategies to come against the enemy in our life trying to divert us from our purpose. Be encouraged as Nehemiah 3:20 says Our God will fight for us. We have the greatest leader and warrior on our side, and this book reminds us of this truth.

Does God Forgive All Sins

All sins will be pardoned, with the exception of those committed against the Holy Spirit, for Jesus will rescue everyone save the sons of perdition. What does it take for a man to commit the unforgivable sin? To sin against God, man must first receive the Holy Spirit, have the heavens revealed to him, and know God.

A Letter To Believers: Ephesians

Which Bible Should You Read?

Unlike the gospel of John and the book of Acts, Ephesians is a letter from the Apostle Paul to the believers in Ephesus.

Christianity begins not with a big DO, but with a big DONE God has already blessed us with every spiritual blessing.

Watchman Nee, a Chinese church leader and teacher, distils the essence of Ephesians into three simple words: Sit. Walk. Stand, and says Ephesians abounds with spiritual riches, and yet is intensely practical.

He writes: Christianity does not begin with walking it begins with sitting.

For Christianity begins not with a big DO, but with a big DONE. Thus Ephesians opens with the statement that God has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ. And we are invited at the very outset to sit down and enjoy what God has done for us not to set out to try and attain it for ourselves.

Introduction to the book: In the book of Ephesians, we see how the Gospel story affects believers everyday lives. God, the Father, planned throughout history for Jesus to create a multi-ethnic community of followers. Consisting of Jews and non-Jews, these followers form the family God promised to Abraham. They live in unity as one body in their families, neighbourhoods, and churches because of Gods grace.

Where Should I Start Reading The Bible

A lot of new and seasoned Christians have a story about their attempts to read the Bible cover to cover that goes something like this: It was going great as they read through Genesis and Exodus, but somewhere in Leviticus or Numbers, they started to get bogged down in details they didnt quite understand. And by the time they hit Deuteronomy, they were done.

While its true that all Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness , we need to recognize that the Bible is not like any other book. It isnt necessarily meant to be read from front to back. In fact, the Bible is actually a library.

The Protestant Bible is comprised of 66 books, and many of those books are written in a variety of different genres or types of literature. These genres all need to be read a little differently. Starting at Genesis and trying to read straight through without a strategy can get frustrating if you dont know how these books and their literary genres work together.

There are a few ways to classify the genres of the Bible, but they typically fall into these categories.

Which Book of the Bible Should You Read Next/First???

Asked by: Electa Jaskolski Jr.

Another order to read the Bible is to jump back and forth between the Old and New Testaments. For example, read Genesis, then Luke, go back to Exodus, then jump to Acts, etc Another way is to read them simultaneously. For example, read a few chapters of Genesis and a few chapters of Luke each day.

The Gospel Of Mark Is Action

The Gospel of Mark is jammed-packed with stories. Its choppy, with new scenes beginning and ending quickly. The word immediately appears 42 times, showing that Jesus wasnt just standing around doing nothing. Its an exciting book to read, one that will surely keep and capture the attention of a new believer.

In his book Kings Cross: The Story of the World in the Life of Jesus, Tim Keller captures this idea well when he writes: Mark does not read like a dry history. It is written in the present tense, often using words like immediately to pack the account full of action. You cant help but notice the abruptness and breathless speed of the narrative. The Gospel conveys, then, something important about Jesus. He is not merely a historical figure, but a living reality, a person who addresses us today.
